The white substance they could see in their glasses was most likely crushed up sleeping pills. The pills won't dissolve in water since these need stomach acid to break up the binding agent in the pills. So the girls were smart to not drink. Their father wasn't as smart. Drinking the entire contents of the glass would guarantee that the crushed up pills got into his stomach.

Yeah that's pretty dumb,, an intelligent psycho would just grind up the benzodiazepine pills, put them in a half cup of distilled water,, let the drug dissolve in the water and then pour off the water and leave the pill - gunk in the cup... THEN,, divide up the clear water in however many doses you want, and viola,, add a lethal dose in solution... about an ounce should be sufficient because if you put 90 pills in 4 oz of water, 1 oz would be equivalent to 22 1/2 pills..... Goodbye and adieu to you Spanish ladies, goodbye and adieu to ladies of Spain......

That's so messed up. As horrible as this is, ultimately at least it saved their lives that they were already expecting her to kill them. It seems like there wasn't actually any poison in there (or I missed that bit). But if they hadn't expected it from her, they likely would have been too startled and in disbelief to fight their mother when she was shooting them. No surprise element left for the psychopath.

My children realized their father didn't love them and they were afraid he would kill them. Thankfully, he got most of the financial benefits and I got the kids, as he only pretended to want them, as he told me he would, but he did severely harm us psychologically, economically, and directly and indirectly physically in the process. It was a nightmare navigating our way out safely, and I was told to stand up for myself by a therapist who didn't understand the danger I was in. It worked very briefly but alerted him to become much more covert, which he used against me in family court, and the process was terrorizing. @@murphychurch8251

I feel like this is what happened with Chad Doerman too (guy who killed his 3 young boys in front of their mother). If you suspect your spouse is a narc, find out the best way to leave without triggering them (if there are no kids involved- just leave in the middle of the night). Or risk this happening.

He made a classic mistake as someone who makes excuses for his abusive partner. He gave her the benefit of a doubt when it came to kids; falsely believing that she loved them more than herself as her abuse was only towards him.
This false belief was what he used to keep himself in that marriage for so long. It was an unmerited hope that he and his children sadly paid the price for.

I had a similarly deranged mother who started out by telling me that she'd kill me if she got too depressed. I was seven. She would punish me in similar ways, where I'd have to hold an uncomfortable position for hours at a time, often for irrational or make-believe reasons. My mother is also from Asia and there are lots of corporal punishments like that. She used to keep a big oak walking stick to beat me with, and she would ask me to retrieve her stick at random times, just to see how I would react. Things got a lot worse after my parents split up (father was an addict and unable to be a parent at all). I cut her off after she held a knife to my throat on Lunar New Year; the adrenaline kicked in and I got free, bolted out the door, and ran two miles to my then-boyfriend's house. When I hear stories like this, I am reminded of why I went NC with her and changed my name. It puts the scolding of the "But it's your mother" people out of my head -- yeah, she's my mother, but she's also a violent narcissist who told me on multiple occasions to take my own life. Glad the girls survived. Hope they were able to get support and guidance from good people.

I can only imagine what was done to her to make her like this. and I was one of the favoured ones. many others faired far worse than me, from psychological terror to broken arms and canings and standing for hours. it felt like post war ptsd being put onto little kids. even the teachers were terrified of her. this must be a particular kind of disorder, beyond narcissism and psychopathy.

She was a typical traditional Korean mother who grew up in the 70s. Judging by her name, which seems rural and masculine even by Korean standards, she probably was a country girl who wasn't well-educated. I'm curious as to how the couple ended up together. People in the west have no idea how culturally different people are from other parts of the world. Older Koreans are Confucian through and through. This means they have no identity apart from group identity. That's why she killed herself after committing the crime. The punishments Dr Grande mentioned will seem abusive to Americans, but even up to the 90s and 00s, those were standard punishments for Korean children.

"People in the west have no idea how culturally different people are from other parts of the world." That's because political correctness has brainwashed many westerners into believing all people are"just like us" and "the same". Judging someone based on their behavior or culture is "wrong" and "prejudiced" and yet not doing so costs many people their lives. Prejudice or pre-judging someone or a situation is how the brain helps us avoid problems and stay safe.

That would have been reasonable, since he and his children were indeed victims of domestic violence and child abuse. The problem is that, even if they are miserable in marriages or in girlfriend-boyfriend relationships, in which they are subservient to their more dominant spouses or lovers, heterosexual men do not want to perceive themselves as victims, in which they might become depressed over thinking that they are weak and ineffectual. So, they do the supposedly honorable thing in the interim by self medicating to numb the pain. Yet, it is not honorable to cheat. It makes no sense whatsoever to alert your dark tetrad abuser of your intent to leave to protect yourself and your children, let alone for the arms of another. That is like a matador teasing a charging narcissistic beast by waving a red cape in its face.

So, nothing changes across the human developmental life span from one generation to the next, unless individuals choose to break free from past mistakes in order to live a better quality of life for themselves.

Research within the adult homeless population significantly correlates at least 1 Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) with 30% mental illness and 50% substance abuse. More than one ACE is associated with at least 5 of the top 10 leading causes of early death in the US. Unfortunately, people are drawn to what they learned in childhood because it is familiar to them. That does not make both parties' behavior in relationship with each other equally bad. Had their father managed to make a new life for himself and his children, he may have sought help for his alcoholism to accommodate a new way of life. We will never know for sure. On the other hand, there was no evidence to suggest positive change on the part of their mother. Murder, especially in terms of an attempted family annihilation, should have been an unthinkable option. Sometimes the scales of justice tip one way and not the other because of such one-sided egregious acts.

It is most likely the result of the conflation (i.e., the merging of two or more sets of information, texts, ideas, etc. into one). For example, the conflation of social Darwinism and the eugenics movement, in what is now perceived as identity politics, during WWII's Jewish Holocaust, demonized one side to justify the total extermination of others through genocide. If overpopulation is your greatest fear, disrupting biological reproduction is a way to lower total fertility rates by country to zero.

Narcissistic mothers can be even worse than such fathers. And in this case, the poor girls also had a father that was - despite being intelligent and hard working - emotionally clueless... and just as disengaged from reality as his wife. The girls survived despite their parents and thanx to their own wits and awareness. They deserved to be alive, I hope they make the best of it. God bless them!

I really believe that a regular flawed human can't grasp the degree of hate that a malignant narcissist carries. It is beyond comprehension. That being said, John should have known better than to declare his intention to her. He knew what he was dealing with. Why gamble with your life just to make a point? The girls are the bravest, most fearless, most strong young women I've ever seen, and I hope a little pride for this, and rock solid self trust will always temper their grief. I hope their lives are full of safety, healing, and love going forward. Won't be easy, but if anyone can do that, they can.

If I were her children and her husbands family I would be looking to hold law enforcement accountable for not charging this woman with domestic abuse the many opportunities they had to do so. Why are some women so easily given a pass by LE when it is entirely clear that they are the aggressor?? This needs to change. Just maybe if someone in power had held her responsible for her violent behaviour those girls would be enjoying their teenage years with their loving father.
