Never in a million years would i ever have thought that a version of this song could be even listenable without drums. Not only was i wrong, but happily so. This is incredible.
Jacob, if there ever was an interpretation that cuts straight through to what we (those of us as nerdy teens in the early 80’s) felt - isolated, alone, screaming in our pillow at a world that did/ still does not accept us - this is it. This is my Time Machine. Thank you.
When Alex Lifeson says he has heard this version and loves it. Who am I to put it down. He is right. It is awesome
This is probably one of the most tastefully done RUSH covers ever!
Check out Time Stands Still by Mike Masse.
Check out the cover by Susannah And The Magical Orchestra.
@@wwg1wga657 I just did! Thanks for the suggestion! Absolutely amazing!!
Can't believe I'm just finding this. Holy...
Still coming back and basking in this beauty in 2023. ❤
welcome back! :-)
@@jacobmoon Why, thank you, kind sir. And, of course, for this in the first place!
Wow. Been a Rush fan for well over 40 years, this is my all time favourite Rush song, and possibly the greatest cover of any song I've ever heard. Just absolute class.
Totally blown away. This is the proper way to cover a song by Rush, create a fantastic interpretation of it instead of trying to play it note for note and try to be a clone.
I totally agree with you. If I was singing a Rush song I would not try to sing it like Geddy Lee. He's too unique to try to copy and I would feel better singing in my own style.
Alex Lifeson’s favorite cover. High praise to Jacob Moon
I just read it was Neil's too. That's why I am even here.
anyone still watching in 2019? 11 years ago wow. remember first seeing this. got rush's attention. congrats man. great song by the greatest band ever, and equally great cover. are you still doing rush covers?
equally great? are you on crack?

Just watched it now. RIP Neil, hope your workin' them angels overtime
I remember seeing this in 09 and I'm still just as blown away by his performance. So good, and yeah I remember it got their attention! Good stuff.
If by the holy trinity you mean Rush, then yes...I had the good fortune to play this song for them at their induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Very good. On the other end of the spectrum, this cover is amazing as well ua-cam.com/video/cWnyNjQVEZ4/v-deo.html
That's awesome!
Do u have the tablature for this. It’s beautiful.
Great job on this tribute.
Wow!!!
As a rush fan of 30+ years, I have to say this is just jaw dropping. *Never* expected to see anyone approach this as a solo number. Well, maybe on piano, but not guitar! You are a seriously gifted musician.
R.I.P. Neil Peart. Thank you for everything you did for us.
I'm getting sentimental in my old age. This moved me to tears.
i know what you mean... i used to be an original artist snob - covers used to always disappoint. but now i look for covers.. it is the greatest honor to a song and an artist to be covered - and this one is just fantastic.
hey, if you like early rush, check this out:

True, especially after Neil passed away 😢
Yeah and the song sounds really touching when played on acoustic guitar.
I am just glad that someone else admitted it first - this brought a tear to me as well, AWESOME rendition!
Me too!
I don't need any drum track. Neil always will be in my ears and my heart. Awesome version made with truly love for Rush's songs.
Thanks so mjuch!
51 jealous people who didn't like this cover. Excellent rendition....love it.
well said! I just came across it......AWESOME VERSION!!!!!!! Hats off to this guy!!!!! the number of 'jealous' people is now up to 114......I don't know if I'd call them jealous though......I think ignorant is a better term to describe them.
Mark Bischoff more like 51 one people “cast out”... ;)
Seriously, how do you have less than 10K subs? This is just so good. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. It’s greatly appreciated in Texas, US.
Thank you so much 😀
Have to say, I am very particular about how this song is covered. It is my favorite Rush song. The lyrics, music and vocals converge into a prefect song. So when you cover it, your style of music and vocal, whether they are similar or tweaked, as they are here, better fit the song. I was surprised to hear how well this version sounds. Good job.
+llcruize It's in my top 3. Peart's drumming on it is sublime.
Totally ageee with you !
+1 agree. At the start I had one shoe off ready to throw it, but put it back on by 0:10. He's got a great sense of ingenuity, the way he's done this touches all the bases for me. It's a great cover.
I think it's a pretty impressive cover, he captures the spirit of Rush, and matches Rush's ability of multi tasking onstage. The use of loopers in this is brilliant.
There is a comedy band that did a whole Cover album dedicated to 80's music. The lead singer Danny is a HUGE Rush fan so they covered Subdivisions. I didn't know that was part of the album and when it came on I cried so much. It was beautiful. They also did Madrigal which is a really obscure Rush song to cover. The album is Under the Covers by Ninja Sex Party. I Highly Recommend it!
65 Thumbs down? People never cease to amaze me. If you aren't moved by this performance please check for a pulse, heartbeat, anything showing a remote sign of life.
How often I have come here to listen to this man's cover of one of the most beautifully choreographed songs, is beyond me. Take a bow, Jacob.
Watching this again after a long break. It still sends shivers down my spine. Breathtaking
Still on the list of best things ever. Killer cover, beautifully done.
I think I've said this before, but this is the greatest cover ever made. It completely changed my approach to UA-cam. How the hell does this guy only have 3.7 thousand subscribers?
I never get tired of this cover. Been coming back to this video often and for years.
This version really moves me. I keep coming back to it. Love the setting, love the acoustic cover. Then I went back to Rush's original version, and it is so daunting and moving it itself. Two renditions of this song. The original wonderful creation, and this wonderful version.
Jacob you are a talented player of course but the INNOVATION you displayed during this was just mind blowing. Innovation ran rampant in Rush as they discovered who they were and it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that they found this and asked you to come show everyone. To be put on display by them personally is something not many of us will ever achieve. You should proud to the 10th power and I'm sure you are. This is definitely the coolest Rush cover on the internet because it was all solo. A Show of Hands to you, my friend. You are welcome in my home anytime.
It is an honour, sir. thank you so much...
Hey: Jacob. Thanks so much for that amazing cover of a great song by Rush. You are a very talented artists bud. Don't listen to any negative comments, rock on brother. :)
What a unique, tasteful, and inspiring version of the song. Amazing rooftop performance!
Here we are on December 28 2023 & I had to come back to listen to your amazing cover one of my favorite Rush songs. Jacob, you're an amazing, talented artist. I wish you all the best for 2024 buddy. :)
The moment you realize you are witnessing something truly special and unique.
I wanted to dismiss this immediately. After listening, I find this cover truly complimentary.
I was exactly the same way, not many Rush covers I can get behind, but this was outstanding.
Me too🤙
@@attractedtothemetallikemag9385 Me Three!🤘
The best I've heard. Except Rush
It’s the song. The song is (foundationally) great
Who could pass up commenting on this cover? Everything in the Jacob Moon performance both honors and enhances the original.
this is by far the most beautiful rendition of a song that i have ever heard. tears of joy are streaming down my face. pure magic. thank you.
I so enjoy covers that people make their own and fill it with heart and great affection which I can clearly hear in this song. Much has happened in 10 years....but my love for RUSH will never cease. Very happy to have come upon this superb rendition! Yeah, they were those kind of guys and made you take notice just by who they were. Glad they really appreciated this effort, I know I did! Much continued success Jacob!
Haunting yet true to the original. Impressive cover.
Amazing. Really pulls out the melancholy of the song and beauty. Wonderful.
I've been watching this clip and listening to his version of this song for several times now, and it appears to me that Mr. Moon's interpretation of this Rush classic is a "work of art"!!! When he sings, he is clear and unmuffled. The lyrics paint a picture of social stratification, and trying to fit in to certain circles. Jacob was very tasty in his instrumentation, blending an assortment of acoustic and electric guitars, and sound effects, without trying to clutter or swamp the arrangement with drums, percussion, bass, horns, strings or keyboards. He was very self-contained, and thorough in making the song his own, without trying to sound like the original in terms of tempo or key, or vocal imitation of Geddy Lee. With that and Rush's original you have not one, but two original arrangements. An electric hard rocking version from Rush themselves, often copied by tribute bands, and other cover artists, and you have slower, mellower soft rocking acoustic version by Jacob Moon, that is both complicated and simply sophisticated, but yet taking the song to another level. Mr. Moon has put a lot of work into this cover, and it has been praised by thousands of people including Rush themselves. This is one cover where every time he hear it, I wish it would never end. Thank you Jacob for presenting it, and your unique talent to all us. We are happy to have heard it.
Jacob Moon's cover does this incredible classic not only justice but also takes the band's own prowess to a whole new level - that of using few musicians (three in Rush's case) to produce a full, powerful, and honed sound. In Moon's case, he's just one guy - and he rocks this tune with apparent ease. The guys in Rush were so pleased, they asked him to play at their Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony!
I come back to this version every once in awhile since I first saw it, it stands the test of time, just like the original.
And still one of the coolest covers ever!
I've watched this many times over many months - I really only need one word to describe this performance - MAGICAL! LOVE IT!!!
UA-cam keeping this absolute soul from me all these years should be a crime! Thanks Jacob for this beautiful cover, keep on rockin' man
Thank you sir!
My copies of Jacob's new CD, "Fascination", just arrived in the mail today. It's awesome...brought me back to view this video, which exposed me to Jacob for the first time. I agree ... this never gets old, and it is SERIOUSLY mind-blowing!! Who could've thought to re-arrange a classic Rush tune like this? Well done, Jacob!
Amazing cover.
Such a beautiful rendition. While the spirit of the song is well captured, this version is a unique achievement. Great location and well filmed, too.
Before listening to your version of subdivision i tought it was impossibile to do an acoustic guitar based cover of this song. You made more than a cover version
Longtime Rush fan here. First time I’ve heard this. Excellent! 😊👍
Thanks for listening
This really should have about 30 millions views. The world doesn't know what it's missing.
man been a long time since i last saw this video, this song means alot to me and hearing Rush perform it live back in 2010 was the best time i had now jacob has neil peart saying subdivisions on his recorder
Im gay and I smell bad
Theodore Lawson ...okay?
always love coming back to this vid! oh, and *congrats* on your OFFICIAL recognition, Jacob!!!
Cool approach and video production...
I love to come back now and then to listen to this beautiful version by Jacob.
Me too!
I love the use of the looper and the foot tapping to make it sound like there is so much more than just one person.
What a great version!
Another skeptical Rush fan here..... but this version was very cool
Simply Fantastic……..Nuff Said..❤❤❤!
Can't wait to hear this at rushfest Scotland 2020,,,,,, Jacob,, bring it on,,,
Great cover. Heard the story how you got Neil himself to provide the "Subdivision" line backstage at a show. Gratz, you are officially the only guy to get Neil to sing a single word of one of his songs! :):)
(eye roll) Totally fabricated, and also completely inaccurate, since at the beginning of the video you see Jacob record the very word on a hand held device.
@@eezyrider65 (UNeyeroll) Then you need to watch Jacob telling the story himself and playing the recording of Neil saying subdivisions. Here it is:

Don't be so quick to judge, Mr. Witch Hunt.
AWESOME PERFORMANCE... LOVE THIS RUSH SONG. AND THE JACOB MOON ACOUSTIC IS SUPERB...
My favourite rush song. I keep coming here every now and then. Thanks Jacob!!
@rbilleaud. No, I am looping using a JamMan. All is recorded and performed live. No overdubs.
I come to this marvelous version very often. Magic. Thanks again.
Thank you SO much for this... I grew up in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona in the 70's-80's... this song hit me like a gut punch when it came out, and I can never hear it without a chill.... You did a magnificent job covering it, and distilling the essence of the song... I am amazed at your talent and how much work you put into this video... I am going to add it to my band's song list and keep it alive... Mahalo!
awesome!!! also love the something for nothing version on 2112 40yrs cd pack. made it your own.
This is the best one-man-band covers I have heard in over a decade. Wow! Thanks, and well done.
And seven years after seeing this for the first time this performance is still awesome!
Nice job. I can see why Rush asked you to perform this song when it was inducted into the songwriters hall of fame.
(Subdivisions) Interesting version (Subdivisions) and I rather like it (Subdivisions) good idea for a (Subdivisions) backdrop
im a metal player and huge rush fan and this made me cry.amazing cant escribe it
Still watching this in 2020. Still awed by the beautiful arrangement and execution of the parts, the beautiful vocals, the creative use of loop pedals, handheld devices...etc. Best live, acoustic rendition of a hard-rock tune ever, in my opinion. Love how the sun sets over the course of the 6:05 duration of the song. I would love to know more about this performance...the location, the challenges, etc. Big kudos to Jacob Moon!
As a Rush fan of over 40 years, I applause this musician! Thank you for your time and effort to be able to bring this to us.
Absolutely stunning.
I need to get me some loop pedals.
You are phenomenal!!! I have gone down the Rabbit hole of your work and you are on my “must see” list for live performers.
Wow, thank you! That means a lot!
Watched it a zillion times and it still gives me chills.
Few people can claim another's song as their own. Even less can make that claim with a RUSH song.
Perfect.
I am always in awe of this back then and today!! So talented and brilliant!
Wow, thank you!
I can't speak the words of what I feel when I hear this song ... I hope you do well Jacob Moon
A completely original, and brilliant, take on this classic Rush tune. Bravo. 👏
Your version is beautiful. It gives me goose bumps.
I watched this video since it first came out. I continue to watch it with a sense of amazement. Moves me every time.
Not sure how I missed this all these years. This may be the single best cover of this song and maybe the best cover of any Rush song. When stripped away of the 80’s production, the song really shines on its own and the performance let’s it.
Wow! Thank you so much!
I've been on a RUSH binge since Neil's passing because i need it. Lately its acoustic renditions. This one has gob smacked me....absolutely FANTASTIC.
Great! Simple, pure and Excellent!! Lee, Lifeson and Peart grateful for this.. in moments like this that the rock is eternal.
Greetings from Brazil, Jacob!
been obsessed with this for days now...
Wow! Just wow!!! Fantastic rendition!
Wow Jacop This is an absolutely beautiful version of Subdivisions, don't know how I missed it in all these years. Thanks for sharing.
Great musicians know great music. Great work!
Excellent cover ! I sent it to my sister and she loved it ! Most people like it .
Jacob Moon, you nailed it! Superb cover of this Rush classic, a timeless cover for sure. The very best I’ve ever heard. You Sir are an amazing talent!
Oh Man - RUSH fan since '82 and your rendition is amazing. Thanks for your beautiful playing.
Jacob absolutely amazing!!!!
One of the greatest covers of any song, ever 🍁
What a great rendition of this song by Rush. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is still the raddest thing on all of UA-cam. You rock, Jacob.
True testimony that a Rush song can still stand on its own with the proper treatment.
Fantastic, the best acoustic Rush cover, I've ever heard.
Outstanding job and great setting for this cover. Love your work... RIP Neil!! You are missed..
I heard a tale today that Rush asked you to perform this song for their induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame... Fabulous performance! Thank you.
And here I am back to the best Rush cover on the internet after 10 years
Jacob, I’ve seen your video before and loved it but I just remembered your cover now during a difficult time of feeling isolated and it awoke me emotionally and moved me to tears. I’ve been a rush fan since 2013 but covers like these remind me of the beauty in the songs that we sometimes forget among the intensity of the Rush sound.
But basically, thank you 🙏
