Additional information: That was recorded in June 2015 at the Universidade de São Paulo, campus Ribeirão Preto. The track was arranged by Philipe Davis. Carolina Raany is playing marimba, while Kleber Tertuliano is on the vibes and glockenspiel. Man, musicians who actually study can do amazing things. :)
This is absolute proof that Rush is one of the best bands of all time and that their music touched the hearts of their fans. Rush has one of the best fan bases of all time. So much passion put in this clip. Amazing! I hope the boys have seen this! Cheers!
I don't know how I found this, but GOD am I so glad that I did. So insanely well done I can't even begin to articulate it. I know Neil and the whole group would be so proud. Enjoyed every second of this!
I'm 100% (conservative) born and raised in the United States, but when my 7 year old comes to me and asks what "And I am filling your mouth with something else." and "Your mom's box?" means ? after innocently browsing some (supposedly safe) music related videos , it does make you wish foul language and disgusting innuendo was strictly dealt with on UA-cam !!
I'm conservative as well, but have a thing for personal freedoms, as long as they don't physically hurt anyone else. He'll learn this language at some point. He'll also make a decision as to whether or not he wishes to adopt it for himself or not. Is he really freely browsing the internet at the age of 7? I hope not. Restrict his access until he's older. YT has better things to do with their time than to police every thread for blue language and personal insults.
I'm all for personal freedoms too and no he's not freely browsing the net, just listening to some music videos in the same room with me but briefly strayed into the comment section where low and behold a couple weak minds are expressing themselves ..I know he will come across this stuff eventually but it's still uncalled for on a post like this..It's been posted almost a year and only has 254 comments , seems that the "poster" could easily clean it up and keep it clean ..
I hope Maestro Peart was able to watch this before his passing. From Canada to South America, Rush were incredible Ambassadors of Canadian Music! This was gobsmackingly good; I can only imagine how long it took for them to get this arrangement under their belts... Thanks for posting!
You know you are legends when a complex piece you composed is given a classical arrangement treatment, extensively studied and analysed for nearly 4 decades after its composition (and will continue to be given that kinda treatment). Long live rush and rush fans. RIP professor. 💔💔💔
How is it that I've gone all these years without knowing this existed? Phenomenal!!! They are both great musicians!! And her double mallet work is on point!
Sometimes, wandering the boundless infintity that is UA-cam, something pops up that you never even imagined you would ever witness. All percussion, xylophone based Rush. This was definitely my hit of the day, thank you!
Spectacular arrangement! I now hear "Villa" in a whole new way. I even love the beautiful ringing silence where our minds get to fill in the drum solos.
Beautiful Percussion ensemble ! I really can't believe someone could actually put a thumbs down on this video, That just shows how some people have no respect for great sounds.
I started playing guitar at 13 yrs old in 1979. Learning to play this song was a greater accomplishment for me than learning to play stairway to heaven.
🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷 Madame et Monsieur: BRAVO! AWESOME! THAT WAS ONE FABULOUSLY AND EXPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE EXTRAORDINAIRE! Thank you for taking the painstaking time and precisive labours in making this tomb of the Guys a joy to hear and see! I'm sure they'd be tickled and beaming with a great big smile of appreciation and honour! 🤗 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Wow, i REALLY ENJOYED THIS. I hope Neil was able to here this, simply beautiful. I can imagine Neil riding his bike across country with this song in his head building experiences at every turn. Great job.
I've drummed since I was 14, probably ~9,000 hours, 60% playing along to Neil Peart. This song is the holy grail of rock percussion, in my opinion -- and I was ready to dislike this rendition as precious. At 0:41, my cynicism melted, I sat back, smiled and floated away on the sound. Well done, Philipe, Carolina and Kleber.
Same here and I remember covering Overture/Temples and having a blast playing it when I was 18. Neil was my idol as a drummer and the band my all time favourite. It too put a smile on this ol' guy's face! Whadday think next, Xanadu?Cheers!
Thank you for posting. Awesome rendition of La Villa Strangiato. Lee, Lifeson & Peart would be proud. Especially I sense Neil would be proud of the percussion skills. He always considered himself to be a percussionist, and this version shows the skill required to be such!
This arrangement of one of my favorites brought me to tears. Loved the sequence beginning at 4:20. Love how they give a pause for the snare fills, almost as to give a nod...RIP, Professor
That theme, which resurfaces at 6:33 and 7:38, was adapted from Powerhouse by Raymond Scott, which featured in several classic Warner Brothers cartoons with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
This is so a awesome. In my head I am taken back to the last time I heard this played live, it was on the Time Machine tour. Dirk, Lerxst & Pratt would approve. Side note: Neil had a xylophone in his mountain home in Quebec.
jbooks888 u obviously dont appreciate or understsnd the level of flattery and dedication theese two show , and what it takes to adapt such a complex pice to those instruments. Mostlikely more difficult to play the guitar and bass licks on that . I. E. Bass solo.
Not sure how I haven't stumbled upon this until now. After the crappy year that 2020 is I have decided that 2021 will be the year of Rush for me. Been a fan for over 40 years, but you can never have enough Rush. Thanks for this - amazing piece of work!
115 dislikes. Obviously not musicians. Not that you have to be one to appreciate what is happening here, but there was obviously a lot of work that went into that arrangement with multi- mallet percussion. Sometimes I wonder if these same people who thumb down videos ever spend large amounts of time doing something creative with the intent of entertaining people and inspiring them, or if they are like Julius Caesar laying on pillows eating grapes with a general sense of boredom?
shows just how elaborate Rush writing and performing really is, remember the guitar is on top with an electric lead that is like no other piece of written work , the song is meant to be abstract and almost in reverse or unorthadox order and structure but all written and performed as imagined... Rush lives in all of us whom have had the pleasure of listening to them...what would touch me deeper than tears that fall from eyes that know why
Amazingly best rendition of any Song, let alone this complex composition, I have ever heard. Hands down, thank you for sharing your talents with us! Made me smile and tap my toes! Such talent.
About 2 years ago. I bought a xylophone and transplanted my Rush bass lines into this instrument to find a new smile in sound. Loved every note in this video. Thank you for a splendid performance.
Unbelievably awesome! My favorite Rush song played on xylophones... or Vibraphones, Glockenspiel, and Marimba. Whatever you call it, this was amazing. Well done, Carolina and Kleber.
I have to comment again, this is insane... Great Job.. As everyone else has said, it brought a huge smile to my face for us die hard Rush fans. Your timing is insane as well....
Well... I'm a grown man... and still can't figure why I cry every time I see this video...
dude i am here saying the same thing!
This instrumental solidifies just how complex Rush music is. To be able to entertain diehard Rush fans with this is quite a feat
YES I love RUSH. But check this out. ua-cam.com/video/YfDqR4fqIWE/v-deo.html
Outstanding on so many levels. The Professor would approve.
Someone still cutting onions in here.
@@Torgo1969 I noticed that as well. Damn onions have my eyes all watery!
Indeed he would. 🥁🇺🇸
My brain was filling in Neil’s drum parts. Bravo!
Exactly. I was doing Neil's part along with them. Simply awesome.
Halfway through, I paused it so I could run up stairs, get on my kit and play along 🤣 this was fantastic!
You too huh. It’s like a reflex
Ditto...
Yes, me too!!

Fala meu amigo, isso foi feito mesmo aqui no brasil?
i have no words -- just tears of joy and deep deep deep appreciation!!! RIP Neil. Rush Forever!
Okay. It’s not just me. Damn Onions!!!
RUSH FOREVEEERRR
🌞⭐✨
Can you pictures Rush on vacation in the Islands and sitting at a restaurant and the band starts playing this. nice work
Haha yes, that would be funny. Only thing is that it would be weird for them to go on holidays together :)
@Shallex because, don't people go on vacation to get away from their co-workers? :)
Lol!! Made my day! Hilarious mental picture of Geddy and Alex in bathing suits, surprised look on face...Lmao..rotfl...
That would be so awesome. This is so beautiful..
Then Christopher Walken approaches the vacationing trio, and says, "Hey, nice song. But it seems like it could use some. . ."
This wins the internet. It's over.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suddenly i feel joy and hope again, for the Human race.
Only true Rush fans watched the video 'til the end of it
I did! (Thanks for sharing)
Eng202 I can't just stop listening!!!!!!!
you betcha
that was awesome, only heard one missed note - very impressive
the end is the best part!
@@michaeljohnson773 And you saw her smiling right after she missed it. Pretty awesome performance.
I think Geddy and Alex should use this as their doorbell chime....
shoot! If I had a doorbell, it would be my chime -- and I mean the whole song! : )
They probably do.
I wouldn't answer the door til it had finished 😂
It would take them 9 minutes to answer the door ;-)
What about hemispheres?
It is unacceptable that I can only like this once.
I liked it for you :)
You can like it multiple times but to be effective you have to hit the thumbs up an odd number of times.
John DiFrancesco Not at all brother, I'm with you.✌️
i liked it for both of us, but that means we only get half a like each, which is twice as unacceptable, so I suppose that cancels it out, not sure
I also have just liked.it for you.👍
This is absolute proof that Rush is one of the best bands of all time and that their music touched the hearts of their fans. Rush has one of the best fan bases of all time.

I've just fallen in love with Carolina Raany!
I love whenever this video pops up in my feed. Always have to watch it, can't help but play conductor. Good times.
You guys deserve a Nobel Prize for this! Honestly, I can't remember being so delighted with anything on UA-cam, ever.
Prime example of the power of music
All I can say is,. SURPRISE ...! I left off a few words. Excellent.
Love this interperation of this Rush classic. Just shows how genious musicians these three were.
Somehow it is filling my eyes with tears...

The best thing I have seen in a long time!
How this hasnt completely blown up the percussion world...is beyond me ! Excellent video.
