Drummer absolutely slaughtered it too.
A very very very good performance, indeed!
@Jack Dratch Check out videos online of DC playing the sticking on the hi-hat in the middle bridge. It's an alternating-hand triplet sticking pattern. 🤘✊
No kidding right?
Especially seeing the kit hes playing

Hey Tool fans, how are those goosebumps feeling? Hats off to these kids, man. Holy moly.
Goosebumps? I got tears...
Literally got goosebumps half-a-second before I read your comment.......

Gives me hope
Same...wow
That bass line is epic. And she pulled it off wonderfully. Bravo sis
She TOTALLY rocked it!!!
Rarely would I even attempt to listen to a Tool cover, especially of Lateralus. But this is amazing. Vocals are unreal too, not an easy feat.
I stumbled on this by pure accident. I was with my wife and we were both insisting that of any band and of any song, this would be an impossible cover. After looking at the comments, I see the obvious...the music is very well done. Drums, Bass and Guitar were all outstanding....however, I agree 💯%, the Vocals are so epic....for a minute I thought they were tracking in Maynard's voice. Simply unreal!
I wish I could meet the bass player...and marry her!!!!!!
I think the vocalist tries to much to sound like Maynard James Keenan, rather then trying to put his own spin on the song, which i think is a shame as the vocalist do clearly have a good singing voice.
@@thetruth4654he doesn’t even sound like Maynard at all
Clearly a unique and incredible vocalist! Wow to even come close to the original is huge but to stand on your own and well... own it... BRAVO!
I can't decide if the MVP of this video is the girl killing it on bass or my dude on drums doing a phenomenal job on half the kit Danny Carey uses. Really excellent work.
The young lady on Bass hands down
rellimnahtan drummer. The bassist is good, but keeping on beat with those complex rhythms on drums is harder
I say both. They both killed it.
Half?? Probably a quarter! He did great with the kit he had...really surprised me. I saw that kit in the beginning and though “oh no, this is going to be bad,” but he really did great.
I was thinking the same until one specific drum part in the middle of the song where it became clear to me that the drummer just transmitted the same feeling to me with his drums as Danny Carey does. The way he uses the drums is the same as Danny. So drummer all the way.
Number of persons needed to play Lateralus.
If you are human: 8
If you are Alien. : 4
On point. And that doesn't take anything away from these students. They're awesome. But they are not 👽.
I think Rosetta stoned is just about someone meeting the members of tool
Number of persons needed to not understand dubbed guitars and auxiliary instruments...: 1
I was just thinking the same thing. As soon as this video begins, I counted all who were involved and that is just one more reason why Tool is an amazing band, because four super talented individuals can generate such an enormous sound. Three holy musicians and a set of divine vocals equals eight students of the craft. An ambitious video for the students. Bravo.
i totally agree but i guess its more about giving everybody something to do
I didn't see any props or kudos in the comments for the guys behind the sounds. the producer, the engineer or anyone in the control room. I've listened to this over and over in my noise canceling headphones and the sound is FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!!
SO HERE'S TO YOU SOUND GUYS!!! You deserve just as much credit and glory for the OUTSTANDING work you did in the control room. i spent 5 years in the studio with my brother in law. i know how much work it is to get the sound you want. it's an art, and engineers never get the credit they deserve! AMAZING JOB PEOPLE!!! i am just as EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with the work you did as i am with the musicians. OUTSTANDING!!!
I concur
You don't see any "props" because there are no 90's rapper wannabe's leaving comments.
Really well mixed and the drum tones are spot on.
Thats because its about the kids bud.
ok grandpa, it's time to get you to bed
#1 - The bassist - she KILLED it, never missed once. A very close #2 - the drummer - on such a minimal kit he owned it, no showing off, just pure skill. And an even closer #3 - the vocalist - made it his own because he had to and absolutely convinced me. Fantastic performance by all.
I’ve been playing drums for 30 years with a huge kit and I’d have a hard time playing that song.
Give it up for the girl on that bass.. weapon!!!!
She needed to be louder . Not her fault .
Volume was fine, just needed effects instead of a dry tone. But yeah, not her fault.
she needed to play with a pick
love her moves
Her the drummer and the kid with the glasses on guitar need to form a tool tribute band
I wasn't sure about the singer at the start, but he ended up nailing it.
just shows of easy maynard makes it look.
Especially the final section of the song, the vocals were pretty much spot on.
Let him grow a few more years, live a bit of life. He just doesn't fully grasp what he's singing about. Did fantastic though.
He seemed to loosen up a bit after 5 minutes
Yeah same well at 1st I was like oh not bad n then i heard the creed voice thing so he might be able to cover them too if they remained relevant lmao cuz tool is timeless music. But that creed sound was there n I was like why dude just sing clean lol.
Those vocals are mind blowing 😱
He did so good
He nailed the line, "Urging me to cross the line!!"
Long time Tool fan (I’m 40 😂) I was completely blown away by these talented young musicians. I tend to tear apart and critique the crap out of musical talent that covers songs, especially from a band like Tool. You guys killed it! Absolutely amazing work!
Dad: "You're inviting your friends over again this weekend, end of story. I've got company coming over."
You're grounded so you might as well practice.
You can have friends over for study sessions, I'll buy pizzas.
Hahahaha Holy shit! Im dying!!!😂😂😂
"Yes we're gonna eat Mushrooms while y'all play my favorite band! And yes I'll play each of you 100 bucks to play for 45 minutes."
Lol fantastic thread :P
Best dad ever 😂😂😂
Here’s to the new Tool album 🍺
🤘🔧🎸
Lyte BL4KE August 18 could not come any sooner
False Vanguard not to ruin your day but august 30th i believe is the release date!
What an achievement
They are no longer tool. This album will be a perfect pusifer with danny and adam playing intruments you will see!
I was blown away by the perfection and feel of that bass cover, she absolutely nailed it in every way.
simp
This is probably one of the hardest songs to sing EVER, and this dude freaking nails it, I'd say he's got a bright future!
I wouldn't say he nails it. Rhythm and accuracy sure, but he has to open his mouth and sing lower. He's pinched and muffled I'm a way which almost gives him like an Indian accent
@@iceman5117 he definitely nailed it.
@@iceman5117 no idea what you're talking about, he absolutely crushed it.
@@iceman5117 I think you're believing this singer is supposed to be mimicking 100% of Maynard's voice when in fact he's only mimicking 99.9 % . Knock off the non constructive criticism when in fact each person in this video nail 110% of Tool essence !
@@cromagnon2601 he doesn't have to mimmick Maynard, he has to sound like himself and sound good. He does neither
Serious tool fan here, and damn guys, you nailed this so hard. Sure, technically it's not a 100 percent, but tool fans are looking for more than technical prowess. They don't want a perfect copy of the original, they are looking for a cover that captures the 'elan' of the original. This did it, perfectly.
EXACTLY. Covers are a subjective interpretaion of what this song means to the specific individuals responsible for pulling it off. I think it meant a LOT to them as their interpretation is NOT "100%" accurate. It's their salute to this song. I would be dissapointed if it was an attempt at a straight "photocopy". Kudos.
I feel like Tool fans are very high on the “looking for technical prowess” scale...
Danny Carey is hard to copy.
@@Kado_Tornado But seriously, Tool fans don't have to look very hard to find technical prowess.
Hi! For a noob, please point out the technical mistakes. Thanks!
That blonde girl on the bass may very well be the coolest person on the planet.
I was gonna give u a 👍, but it's on 69 ♥️♥️
@@cleansober1356 nice
Simp
She nailed it!
I love the way she moves with the music, like she really feels it. She's gonna be a great addition to any band that picks her up.
Bro singing! I never know what to expect when people cover Tool, but this guy did it justice and made it his own. Like a mix of Johnny Cash and Eddie Vedder, but with Maynard's salt. Was not expecting him to sound like that. Way to go to everyone! Hope you are all still playing music.
Strong.empathy
BaddddAssss!
It’s pretty clear the bassist has the most potential, but it’s amazing to see students already so talented. Well done, School of Rock!
For a second I thought it was gonna be the cast from the movie School of Rock performing Tool songs XD
Saaaame xD
Me too
What an amazing improvement that would have been.
isnt that wht it is? whts thid then
Well its all of us my man
I would pay good money to see a "first reaction" video of Tool's band members watching this
honestly i think one the best parts about tool is that they are mostly introverted and dont do stuff like that
@@sicariusflamus3033 private and introverted are different things.
I think they would be disappointed in this effort
@@tdbass2968 You act like Tool is pretentious or something..
I think tool would be very impressed. They started where I live. My friend is one of the members cousin and helped them make the move to California and they arent pretentious whatsoever they're very humble and worked really hard to get to where they're at. I think they would really appreciate this and admire the kids and thier talent!!!! After all they were once right where those kids are now and can relate to the dedication and hard work it takes to get that good far more then we can!
The way they are all bobbing in the beginning should be enough for you to know they are about to get involved!!!! Great cover!
Whomever is the teacher of these young talented bad asses needs a handshake from the band TOOL.
Plus the singer nailed it with compassion as did all the other kids!! Totally blown away with this. Just amazing!! Good job yall!!
Bass girl killin it! Justin would certainly be proud.
unfortunately she's not playing it completely accurate, Justin uses a lot more open strings especially in the intro bit, and slides during the interlude/verse thing
Yeah but it’s a little girl bro. I know I wasn’t that good at 14 or whatever.
@@jarrodderr That's a fair point, they're are all relatively tight compared to their age, and in that regard they did really well I think, also bassist in particular is grooving and that's better than being 100% precise I think
Fender and tool is not in the same world...expecially bass...also u can t play it fingerstyle ...it s not aggressive tone...u need a pick..but afterall good job#
@@PickaBass This! Exactly this!
Makes me tear up seeing this new generation so capable of identifying and embracing true beauty. Hell yes. Good job kids.
Vanilla gorilla no offense but why is that so astounding? What makes it easier for someone your age to identify that tool is good compared to a millennial?
ploob man When you get older you’ll inevitably stop paying attention to the new shit played on the radio. You’ll be content with what you grew up with, not minding that the world will move on without your attention. Let the kids listen to what they will. Then when you see kids appreciate something that you loved it just seems awesome. It’s not taking away from your generation, just surprises me to see you all say “ wait, what’s this?”
@@collinqs2541 millennials grew up with tool what do you mean? I think you mean generation z my dude
@@collinqs2541 anyone born between 81 and 96 is considered a millennial

Milennials have much more music to listen to.
Wow, just... wow. Absolutely amazing. One of the best covers ever. Covering TOOL is no small feat, and these fine young citizens nailed it.
The blonde bass player and drummer are incredible together. The lead guitarist killed that solo.
Jack, the drummer, proved us that Tool can be played on a minimal kit. Absolute killer. 5 stars from Paris, France
I agree!!!!! Unfortunately I don’t remember his name, but had the blessed opportunity to speak several time to a drummer that was admired by the drummers of the past
Glitch sorry. He was a drummer of the 30, 40, 50, and 60’s. But taught Neil Pert and other drummers, he told Neil “Stop being showy!!!” Did Neil listen, you know the answer.
its Crazy hey! he just destroys the song on a 4 piece kit with a couple of cymbals....fucking badass
Danny has proved he can play his own music on a minimal kit numerous times.
Nailed It 💯
Co-MVPs: the rhythm section. Bass player is a badass, and the drummer slays on that tiny ass kit.
Jade, and Jack. Excellent job by all, kiddos. But those two? My fave.
This is Un-Fucking-Believable, the amount of young talent in that studio is astounding.
The drummer 110%. They’re all freaking great. Even the guy singing nails it IMO.
I share the sentiment that the vocals made me a tad nervous at the start but... holy shit! He killed it!
Great job all around.
I just love, how the Bassist Girl (Jade) has moved with the rhythm. She Rocks!
She surely does
She plays like chancellor
Check out "What I am" Stella kills it on the Bass.
To steal a line from David Mamet, Good bass players are so cool that when they go to sleep, sheep count them.
It's like blonde Emma Watson on bass :p
I may or may not have said this before but this is the best rendition of the masterpiece we all learned to belove.
Wow. I love how everyone’s focus is on playing their part correctly, no histrionics or showmanship. But the inability to not groove, not feed off each other’s energy, shines through as the song builds. That is true presence, what it feels like to be in the pocket so to speak. One of the best feelings in the world. Thanks gang and thanks Tool.
fr everyone understands their place in the song
The bassist and the drummer are both monsters!
Mad props to the drummer. Jesus christ
Damn, everyone's playing is very precise on this. And the singing is dead on. They must have practiced a ton. Respect.
I cant stop watching the blonde girl on bass. She is so beautiful and talented. Mesmerizing. I could watch her play for hours. Awesome drums, awesome guitars, and maybe even better vocals than the original. What an accomplishment to play something as difficult as this. Well done guys!
0:30: "that drummer's going to get slaughtered. This is a God mode song on drums."
7:00: "holy shit, man, what. Get signed. Get signed yesterday."
Hate to be that guy, but he simplified here and there. Still an amazing work, but he played it in hero mode, not god.
@@Rimpianto fair shout. But to my novice ears it sounded almost identical which is a massive achievement on that kit!
@@Rimpianto i feel it didnt sound like original Danny Carey playing his drums.
But it did sound like what Danny Carey would do playing this "less-saturated" set of drums.
This isn't difficult on drums
I'm The Squishy let’s see your cover then
You kids made this grey old rocker stand up and applaud. That was wicked!
Brent Crude wickedly sick.

So fun to witness gifted youth putting their own signature on this classic!
Wonder what the guy's from tool think of this.
Maynard : see Danny your drum set doesn't need to be so complicated.
Danny: ..........
Danny's drum parts are not complicated, just his setup is different
Danny is an absoloute beast though it must be said.
I'd imagine they think the vocals are shit.. but what you said about Danny........ 😂😂🤘
@@cosmic2614 Some of the hardest beats ever guy come on now
@@LucasGonzalez-du9qd Ive played drums my whole life. That persons obviously talking shit they know nothing about
This is what music is all about. Props to the bass player, you can tell she was jamming during the whole song. Drummer did a fantastic job, he was on point! Excellent cover and thank you for bringing us Tool.
Every single person involved in this deserves either to be signed with a publisher where they can keep making music or for the editing/sound/production given a raise. I'm leaning on both.
Greatest song ever written.
This was great. I do wish the bass was mixed a tad louder.
I wish if the guitars pull down a little
The mix is a bit off don't you think. Vocals bass guitar. :/ Thanks for bringing it up though.
In original too also a controversial mix but I like it
yeah i cant hear the base for shit after the 7:40 mark
vocalist captures maynards power pretty well imo
True true. The female bassist get second vote to ascend to heaven though.
Kinda sounds like Maynard live
If not Maynard's elan, he certainly has the pipes.
Absolutely true.
This performance blows me away. That singer! I hope to find him in a band someday, that voice belongs in this genre for sure. So good.
🥺
Pretty sure Tool is the only band in this genre.

Watching and listening to these young musicians gives me so much joy… and I am. 70. Rock on.
The bass girl was really feelin it, loved her
The drummer and the bassist absolutely nailed it, but an amazing effort from the rest too!
No
@@metallizationofficial980 yes lol
Bass yup. Drums nope.
@@grimcrow8821 I found no fault in the drumlines.
The chick on bass nailed it.
The vocals were so-so (because no one can replicate Maynard)
By biggest gripe is the two guys playing guitars (guessing one was playing at the same tempo but slightly behind for the delay/chorus). They make effect petals for that very reason.
Drums yes, bass was good attempt
Bassist is vibing and rocking at the same time
For the drummer to play that on a regular kit he deserves a record deal
As student as a School of Rock student, I can tell you that they have molded many novices into great musicians.
Amazing job. The bass player cementing the groove during the high hat triplets was inspiring. That high hat wants to lead you away but she stayed on the path.
Got a time stamp?
She was awesome. This song is friggin hard.
NwoDispatcher guessing 458 ish
I felt that...
As a drummer I find it harder to focus on those hi hat hits, you have to tune out everything else...
Amazing! Tool isnt the most easy thing to play , its difficult and complex , and these youngsters nailed it!
Amazing. You kids rock the school. What an accomplishment. Very clear with the vocals, bass player steals the show, drummer is right on, and all the guitarist, wow! Keep it up
Finally, a ray of light in the abyss of the future. You have given me hope.
These vocals..... man these vocals ❤
This is the best group of kids ever from SOR.
Great contribution from keyboard players, they were swinging the first minute of the song. Essential.
As a huge fan of Tool I'm impressed that whole rhythm was on point very nicely done I got goosebumps
Same here
The guy singing gets it...
No he really doesn't
@@kylehansen7053 Still better than a lot of professionals. We can't really compare students to Maynard, that's just not fair. Aside from some intonations different from the original, it's still really impressive.
@@henryjubeda7617 You're right, I just don't think his singing style fits the overall style of the song. And they had to have two guitar players to play this song. Tool does have alot of backtracking but they still only have 4 members.
Kyle Hansen could you be a bigger douche rocket?
@@brettrun8575 sure I could but I think I'm allowed to voice my opinion, but I never said the dude sucked. I just said his singing style doesn't fit. I can’t stop coming back to this
Tears in my eyes while listening to this, you guys just completely nailed the feeling
This kid on drums is amazing.
The vocalist IS doing this justice. Not many tool covers do...
Great Job!
No he's not. The vocalist was terrible. Off key the whole time.
Violencce_ bullshit
Violencce_ you might not like him but he absolutely wasn’t out of key. Do you even understand what it means to be out of key?
@@FizzyCape What he did completely wrong was the tone of the accent notes.
Dan Hays not a lot people can do Tool justice but the vocalist does.
4:30 that guitarist almost brought a tear was so powerful. The singer reminds me of Maynard in his Pucsifer persona singing a Tool song, so freaking cool.
Kudos to that singer too, really did a strong impression of Maynard’s voice
The drummer’s on point with this one ngl
One of the first vocal covers that compare to Maynard in regards to pitch alone. I love the other covers the kids do but this could be mistaken for a raw tool session and that’s absolutely incredible 🤙🏻 so nice to see young generation appreciate what tool offers
Couldn't agree more. What a perfect voice to front a Tool cover.
They look 20-25
That girl is owning the bass & song…props
That’s bassist is loving it .
And shouldn’t we all.
Been so long
Can’t wait any longer
But will
If these kids can learn & emulate Tool then there is a future for music

Oh my
The hard aproach, TOOL.
Credits for even trying it.
All went well, but that bass player is already up the next level
Great job, kids! Especially the bass player! Fingers, all fingers.... bravo!!!
I wish she used a pick just for the attack consistency and tone.
Brava! She's a girl
