"Schism" from the album Lateralus, by Tool, 2001
Recorded at RaxTrax Recording in Chicago, IL - Розваги
Tom Morello would be proud, seeing how high this kid has his guitar
😂
Foals too! :D
Fuck Morello. The only thing he'd be proud of is the wah pitch-shift effect that someone sounds like they're using.
😀😁😂💖👍
Or the original “wear your guitar like an old man wears his waistband” the beatles
I've been playing drums for close to 20 years and still can't play this song all the way through and this kid nailed it. Brb practicing.
YOU PLAY DRUMS JON DUDE ME TOO
especially the part at 5:36 - end is godlike drumming
Omg the legend himself in here
Fucking killed it.
Based Sudano listens to tool AND can plays the drums to them... wow
Non-musicians don't know how hard this is... just counting the whole time. These kids nailed it
that's actually the thing with tool, totally agree. performing Tool in a coverband is working with an orchestra
Most people that I know that like tool have played music in their lives. You don't truly understand what is going on if you haven't played an instrument.
@@kfeemer I haven't played anything outside of piano lessons at 10yrs old, but I totally understand what happens in Tool songs. it's awe-inspiring. and seeing these younglings completely fucking nail it is SO cool.
I loved tool and saw them live before I ever picked up a guitar but since then have been even more impressed understanding how impossible this song would be for me to play in a band hearing all the other parts and keeping my timing
ive played in a band for 2 years, the timing and hearing parts is what you need. you need too hear other parts for quese@@MusicMan3
Props to any drummer who can emulate Carey's time signatures.
that kid's got talent. he look calm and collected playing some of the most complex lines he's ever heard
💯
Kidz bop has definitely taken a turn for the better
Nice
Cool
Lmfao
🤣
You know; That's Funny Cuz That Is TRUE
I thought this was the school of rock movie kids grown up doing a cover together
I thought the same.I clicked the video and expected jack black to show up ,then none of them looked familiar with the kids from movie.but i'm glad i clicked this.It may be the best schism cover on youtube.
Jimi Hendrix same
Like your name btw
It’s not? 😡
Jimi Hendrix, and i thought you were dead but here you are commenting a youtube video.
same
Whoever teaches these kids deserves a raise.
This is fucking awesome.
Hola Yayo, saludos desde Tampico 🌚
This is actually Nucking Futs.
You should see the video where they cover 46 & 2 .
The guy/girl vocal duet is a pretty cool twist- sounds great. This song is no joke to play, the fact that these kids are doing it at age 14-18 is impressive.
Exactly, just get a guy/girl to sing and you produce Maynard.
İs this song really that hard ı dont think it is compared to other tool songs .
@@saxtonnova this song has some 40+ time changes. It's no novice song.
I mean it really isn't that difficult, I'm 18 and I handle it fairly well. These people have obviously practised a lot and are really talented, but it's def easier to play than you think when you first hear it.
Not to mention 2 singers actually makes sense for this song simply because of the lyrics and themes behind it lol
I honestly thought the vocal parts being a duet was the coolest thing about this video.
The bass player better start a band
c d which one?
Damian the... the only bass player
The kid didn't even play half of the riffs right... Not even the beginning which is literally the easiest part...
KONO DIO DA he might not have been exactly correct but he’s pretty dang good lol
@@ethansmithmusic sorry, me and my friend play this all the time and small things bother me. I have bad OCD in a musical sense
To be honest, I like this spot on version better than any of those "I do it my way" kind of covers.
Sounds just like TOOL, which is a great and difficult thing.
The only thing that doesn't sound the same are their voices for obvious reasons, but still managed to find a way for it to sound wonderful.
You can still see stylistic differences though. The bass and lead guitar are played staccato rather than legato. Doesn’t make it better or worse, just different.
Honestly the vocalists nail the energy.
Vocals sound just right
It's not spot on.
Listen to "a tendency to" (4:49 ish) again and you'll notice the "to" is a fifth or octave lower than what it should be.
The melody is changed and it almost ruins the original composition.
Feel free to feel good about the likes you got, but there are thousands of Tool fans who would agree with me. It's not a bad cover, but it isn't "spot on" where it arguably matters the most.
@@fonesrphunny7242 it doesn’t ruin anything bro 😭
so when is jack black gonna kick down the door screaming, shredding an acoustic guitar?
Needs more saxaboom
Hate to burst your bubble mate, but these aren't the kids from the movie xD
@@kingzi7932 no shit buddy
@@kingzi7932 It's called a *joke*
Hopefully never
TOOL must be a final exam in any music institute!
If not, definitely should be!
goodjob copying a comment lmao
Tool or dream theater
Jjjjj no
Hahaha! No. You need schoolin', boy, 'cause your shit be foolin'. Try some King Crimson for starters, then come back to this thread.
“Hi honey how was your music lesson today?”
“Oh it was good. Didn’t really do much. Just played technical progressive metal where the time signature changes 30 times no biggie”
C Brad Music time signature never changes; it's just that this song is 6.5/8, which makes it seem like a measure of 13 but it doesn't fit it exactly because the drum polyrhythms would be off a measure
C Brad. Actually the song is in 5/8 + 7/8 in a 2+3+2+2+3 pattern
These can be added to 12/8 but simplified to 6/4. It's easier to count 5/8 + 7/8 though.
Zander Wimpee Justin Chancellor said it himself the time signature is "6 and a half over 8" in an interview
Ben Green Whoa. Mind. Officially. Blown. How would it be counted then?
The guy singing was especially good. The first phrase he came in, his tone really took me by surprise. Nice range, too. And the whole duet-thing was awesome.
the bassist if definitely the highlight of this cover, he was super into it and he nailed it.
Highlights the complexity of Tool's bass.
You spelled drummer wrong.
Hat off to the bassist, as a bass player I know how hard this song gets to stay in time with everyone
This song rocks
Well then you actually suck and need to practice
Axiom Anarcho Way to be an asshole.
Don’t get lost in the guitar. Just keep the same line going. (Bass player as well) that was my first problem at first
He is impressive!
Really love the two vocalists, especially since the song is about a strained relationship so the male and female vocals feel really fitting.
InsertCleverNameHere it’s actually a larger allegory about the Schism of the Church. He wants to see the world’s religions to come back together, yet finds beauty in the dissonance
@@NitrousFox No he's just mad at a puzzle
@@NitrousFox I'm sure you could make this connection, but it's hard not to see how this song could describe almost any strained relationship. There's even some evidence to suggest it's about the relationship of the bandmates and maynard.
Would have loved to hear her have a part on the poetry section where the vocals get really intense.
Polyvalent, it says nothing about a relationship anywhere in it plus it wouldn’t really make sense to say that there is beauty in a strained relationship.
The Maynard's voice's tembre is just exacltly the very mix of woman's and man's, just've realized that.
Absolutely on purpose. Which is why Tool is the best fucking band ever.
That duet at 4:40 absolutely nailed it! It's my favourite part of both this and the original
Literally gave me chills........
Respect to the bass player repping out a Death From Above 1979 t-shirt
Kind of a mandatory fave for any self-respecting rock bassist.
But the legend of the rent is way hardcore...
Wow great reference!
Dom' Valhalla I mean, the band IS called School of Rock.
When does Principal Mullins show up?
😂 love it. Bring in “Cash”
Funny as f@ck
I don't think people realize how legendary this is. I feel bad for those who only listen to mainstream music.
you realize Tool is mainstream right? Doesnt mean it isnt great.
A vocalist in a cover who’s not terrible and cringey... huh weird
Ehm....
Check out The Pot by Brass Against...
Can confirm, I am one of the cringey and terrible ones
I thought that the vocals by the guy were the worst part, the girl did a great job, but it just didn’t sound right to me.
@@ashtabet3450 That's funny, I felt the opposite. Ah well, that's the beauty of the world for ya.
Overall this was just awesome. The instrumentalists are all super gifted, but what I really like is how the two singers sound together.
They compliment each other beautifully, I agree!
Yeah dude their voices like..merge together! They sure do compliment each other so well!
Should stick together
@@DerLebakasGott Schism: A Love Story
Not an easy song to cover. This was great!
fbomb420 ya it is the hardest part is the bass and it isn't that hard
Ankit Jallipalli so go ahead and entertain us - where is your cover of the song?
GoodHeman yes but still, to be in sync and have good sounding tones and vocals is difficult
Look I’m sorry if I came off as a jerk neon but it has it’s hard parts but this one of the first songs I learned to play on bass and guitar and from my standpoint it was pretty easy we all have things that come difficult to us and some don’t but some do tho others
Also tbh Heman tool is that one band where there songs aren’t really difficult to play but sons like they are it’s just use of pedals and special effects but tool is amazing no matter what
I like how the art-director posed them not away from one another, but just enough to show apart-ness.
The guy's voice is, well, brilliant. Her voice is simply beautiful.
She tries to catch up, but she can't; listen and hear that he leads. She always comes in a tenth of a second after him. This is not her fault. This is how the song is meant to be.
This goes on until they reach 'cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion' after which she takes the lead. 'supposed lovers'.
This is expert level
Absolutely wow
Imagine this are teens
Extrem good
Probably one of the few videos where I didn't skip a single second of it.
Welll... if you did you would never get back to th tempo...
this is youtube. not the usual type of videos you skip through.
Tool playing a song- “I’m pretty sure we can do this with just the four of us.”
Covering a tool song-“ We’re gonna need everyone we can find.”
Lol! This is a great job by all!!
It's almost like each band member records multiple parts in the studio
Jordan Babcock no way!
420
Meanwhile it takes 8 people to recreate it when the extraterrestrials do it with 4
Eh, and a good bit of multilayering of imdividual tracks recorded in the studio- don't get me wrong, they're absolutely amazing, but they don't play everything at once.
It’s still good tho. Not bad
Jeffrey Burney yeah def
sebi_the_snek lies. You cannot question the gods 😂 jk
8 children
Teacher-"okay class, forget everything you ever learned on playing music, we are gonna learn Tool now". Lol
Excellent job!
This makes no sense.
@@shawnr8438 because tool switches times and is extremely difficult to play. They do their own thing
It's hard to play because they actually compose their songs. Stuff that most rock bands don't... "ok, here are 4 rifts on the guitar, 6 baselines, and drummer just go ape shit.... ok break" there is a reason their albums take so long to produce. Tools like ok if we have a string section what would they sound like and how can we mimic and adapt that sound.
@@patrickmcneely3877 @ You have described what I was trying to convey better than I did. Thank you internet stranger.
Tool should be required learning in any music school
Karen Landon or any school, tbh
you got that shit right
Doesn’t help string orchestra much besides the time change, which would be fucking difficult
Yes absolutely! Should be a part of musical composition.
Tool should be followed as was Jesus Christ!
when u send shivers up the spine of a diehard tool fan, u did a great job. that was awesome
renato sousa ditto
sounds like you just need a fukin blanket. or a hearing aid. or to stop referring to yourself as a Tool fan.
Totally agree! Have listened to this song hundreds of times, and this cover is not just technically proficient, but really captures the spirit of the original!
Bro fr though
TC Mangan ? The bass was lacking bad and the guitars felt disconnected at times. And don’t give me some “Well they’re just kids!” Bull because I’m the same age as the bassist and also play bass.
Those two vocalists are perfect for this song.
4:06 - coolest part of the song for the bass player and the camera doesn’t show a single second of it 🙄
right, i was wondering how they were going to do that part and I was excited to see the bass actually doing it, but then they cut away lol fffffff
Hahaha ikr
Honestly I expected to see the child actors from the film School of Rock. Still a dope video though.
I'm so glad I'm not the onlyone lol i read this and was like hmmm wonder if Jack black is in it!!!!!
Same here, was disappointed
Same, thought it might be the kids from the movie but older
It’s a camp for musicians and it is named after the show School of Rock
#me too
the drummer isn't getting enough credit, he was amazing!
Best cover of this song I've ever heard, hands down. Well done. The dual vocals are perfection.
Those studio engineers did a great job mixing this
Damn.. killed it!
MAJOR PROPS TO THE BASSIST!
I feel like I'm watching a cover that should have more views. The male vocalist actually gets chances to sing some of the A4 notes in the songs rather than just focusing on the low notes the whole time. The band was well mixed, and I love the guitar work!
Back when I commented on this video, this only had several thousand views. Now it climbed to 1.4 million. Man how time flows.
Why is my mans guitar higher then my future
He should chill a little
Because it's a music school. They teach the kids the best way to play their instrument
@daAnder71 alright grammar police calm down lmao
@@SirFooplesTheThird By far that highness isn't the best way to play a guitar...
@@TheEmperius I'm just a layman, but I mostly see guitars strapped that high in prog metal and jazz, which both require a great amount of technical skill. Could it be possible that accuracy can be improved by this?
Outstanding performance, the 2 singers harmonies fit perfectly! 😊
The male vocalist is fantastic. Great performance.
mtMage3 the girl is great too
Yes, he’s awesome. The synergy with the girl’s vocal is awesome. Well done.
It's incredible that many of these kids weren't even born when this came out
ok
Father andre, hahahahha
t0ni I mean they must have, the song did come out in 2001.
I get your point. It would be a lot easier for kids to discover old music if they had the means to do so. If only that thing existed. Like it would connect the world through devices so we could search and communicate at incredibly high rates of speed.
I was born at the end of September in 2001
Wow! That was intense. What a serious, tight and talented group of kids.
The kid with the white guitar wanted to bust out with the "wow wow chika wow wow chika chika chika" so bad
Most pro bands butcher tool when they try to cover them.. and then here’s a bunch of kids that totally slay it... these kids have some bright futures if they keep up the hard work!
Tool is so easy that even kids can nail it.
@@taunokekkonen5733 but you for sure not...
@@seelenwinter6662 i play only guitar so I tend to stay away from two-chord/octave bands like Tool.
@@taunokekkonen5733 this guy is clearly a troll. Or just oblivious. One of the two. Tool has some of the best riffs in progressive metal history. I would rank their guitar work only second to dream theater.
Tauno Kekkonen tool has some really technical riffs and timing that is really tough to get down. what do you mean by 2 string?
The voice of a man + woman = manyard
aditya mehta Maynard ?
Shun Jags original singer of the song
Lol, manyard
Isn't it funny cuz he owns a vineyard? :3
He's all the genders and sexual orientations
I am a peasant who doesn't know how to count time signature of the drum and bass, as well as pint-pointing notes by notes. But this sounds really like TOOL and it is really addictively good. These kids are going places!
LMDAO
Thank God for the School of Rock. Every student here is excellent. Tackling any song by TOOL deserves a standing ovation if it is pulled off in completion. This version is beautifully performed. Every single musician here deserves respect. Brilliant. BTW, listen through headphones. The mix is fantastic as well. Great job.
I’ve been listening to Tool - Lateralus for about 17 years now and it is still my favourite album. Schism was the first song I heard from it and I’ve loved this song even before some of these kids were born. I must say that this is an amazing cover, maybe the best on youtube! I hope that atleast one of you kids reads this and takes this to heart, because this sent shivers down my spine. :)
Ride the spiral to the end!
I thought Aenima was great
Kim Öhman Are you kidding me I was at Sam goody the minute they open to get this album
Syns vi på copenhell?
Kim Öhman ride the spiral, love it
Dude...no. This is not the best cover on youtube. They gave it a good go but this is so far off in terms of tone and precision. A for effort but that's it.
3:51 ew, what a Maynard pattern on the keys. She nailed it, tho. This is excellent
Nigga what
If it sounds mathematical, it sounds like maynard :)
Having two out-fucking-standing vocalists is brilliant.
A+
those harmonies using the 4th are so haunting. Amazing feel.
Kinda what makes Alice in Chains harmonies so effective, too.
@@GarrettMerkin yep. My thoughts exactly
That was slammin Yo. Having the girl sing along with the guy was an excellent addition to the song. Brilliant work everyone.
Holy shit good job everyone!
The female singer nailed it hard.
Yeah, but she looks like her mom did her makeup
Mike Hawk who cares? She's like 14, who was a makeup artist at that age? She might even grow up to realise she doesn't even need makeup - it's the talent that matters, not "being sexy".
Eintracht Frankfurt ♥️♥️
She looked dead
Nah, the male vocalist probably did though
anna's vocal tone sounds beautiful, hope she got her band soon.
Ya, that middle solo part she got is superb !
I mean, I thought this this would be with the kids from the movie and Jack Black. I'm not disappointed though.
Absolutely amazing!!!! You guys killed it!!! Nice call on both girl and boy singing. Its the closest you can come to Maynards unique voice.
These kids have talent
Ooh... Yes they was! Thanks for pointing that out
And money
just sounded so good, forgot how much I love that clean bass intro and he nailed it. everyone was on point, the drummer played some of the most complex lines he's ever heard. the duet was a great choice covering the full range and the harmonics
I know I commented a year or so ago. But I am still blown away by this beautiful cover!!!! While everyone invovled did an astounding job, the harmonies of the vocalists are freaking perfect!!!
Great job by the singer! He really digs into the power of it.
Sean Buchert You mean the singers
the male voice feels too artificial
The singer was the worst part.... at least the "he" involved. The girl should have done the whole thing because he couldn't put enough balls into it and gave it the Glee treatment.
Justin No Origin Band gave it the glee treatment lmfao I'm dying bro. true, I have to agree with you lol
Both of them but the guy really did good
That was worth the 6 min watch
Wow, I've been listening for Tool for 20 years now, and that's a great cover. Keep on going youngs !
Thoroughly impressed that a distinct but faithful cover could come from a collection of folk 18 and under.
She has a beautiful voice
She does, my favorite part of the performance, which is saying something given how good everyone else
This is out-frickin' standing! So young and the vocals are perfect and the musicians are in the pocket! O'Keefe never disappoints. Keep rockin'!!!!
This is school of rock not O'Keefe
Music is in the hands of the youth...I'm not worried. Tools amazing, and so are you guys.
I grew up on tool and to see these kids performing one of my favorite songs of all time makes me smile. Keep it up kiddos you have a bright future ahead of you. Don't let the best era of rock die. Music depends on you now because the shit they play on the radio these days isn't worth a damn.
Gives me goosebumps for sure
This gave me minutes of chills. Keep up the good work!
This is insanely good. When those bells kicked in, I was not expecting it, but then the layers started building... Damn guys, perfection right here.
I just stumbled on these vids tonite. these youngins are incredible.
This is amazing to watch. So good to see young talent being expressed. Goon on ya guys!
I love the duet in the vocals, it really fits this song
These voices go so well together!
This is the best performance I've seen in a decade or two. Hats off!
Fantastic job, truly exceptional. It's so wonderful to see children learning the most incredible music ever.
Wow, I actually had goosebumps when you both sang at 1:40. Amazing vocals, keep it up!
Outstanding! Absolutely amazing. These kids murdered this song. Seriously, color me impressed. I wish I could go back in time and go to this school!
I'm speechless. This was absolutely beautiful. One of my favorite bands and you guys nailed it. Subbed!
How could anyone not love this ? Great job !!
Vocals are amazing on this!!!
they're all incredible! And that drummer and lead singer are simply mindblowing
The harmony worked well. respect!
Great job. That was amazing. The students on instruments were my highlight. Better than I can do so hats off.
This is just absolutely awesome. It's not an easy song and these guys were killing it. Keep on the excellent work. Kudos on the recording/mixing too
Man. So much quality coming out of these groups! More TooL!!!
The girls vocals are amazing. They fit with the original goal of the song too. Flawless.
Dayum!!! No reason why someone would dislike this. Well done!!
OMG these kids were awesome!!! From the vocals harmonizing to the drummer beating it out as well as bassist and guitar plucking on point... One of the best covers I've watched so far... Also this is the first time I have seen school of rock videos I am subscribed to O'Keef already but now to this channel as well. I hope they realize how v talented they are, this group of kids, together as a whole, have knocked this Tool cover outta the park!!! Great job guys!!! I hope to see more from same group of kids in the near future....
Absolutely nailed this. All-around great performance.
HOLY CRAP this is so so good. Absolutely hit the nail on the head. Love seeing people in their element and this song is not easy to recreate like this. The drummer especially wowed me
AMAZED!!! The 2 SIngers and the Musicians nailed this Tool Cover. One of my favorite all time Tool Songs - SCHISM!
Exceptional. Best cover I have ever heard, and for such a tough song. Vocals were perfect.
wow..... amazing nothing else needs to be said here. every member played/sang beautifully
Absolutely superlative. All of you. I wish you all the best in your careers.
Truly astounding. Rock lives in thirty time signatures and in the heart of every true music fan
