The worst part about the alternate ending (Sacrifice Chloe) is that the Chloe in that time will die thinking that her lover/best friend just left her without a trace, and that Max had never cared to call or even text, that Max didn't love her anymore. The worst part of that ending was that Chloe dies thinking that everyone in her life really would "never miss her punk-ass."
Emma Wolf the worst part about sacrificing Arcadia bay is that everyone in the town dies (and who really wants to kill Warren 😒) also it’s pretty obvious that whenever we save chloe the universe tries to balance itself by killing other things ie the birds and the whales... and the massive storm that happens. So by saving chloe you don’t accomplish anything these bad events will continue to happen as long as chloe stays alive. Plus if you sacrifice chloe the teacher gets arrested without anyone else getting hurt, and Nathan can get the help he needs/deserves for his mental health in prison 🤷♂️
Of course if you enter the code wrong 50 times Max actually breaks the 4th wall and says she'll kill the designers for designing those puzzles :P That actually isn't a joke, check it out!

I completely agree about the ending. I would give anything to get one more day with my girlfriend. She passed away a few months ago (having found out from a phone call) - I didn't want to believe it for the longest time. Family didn't help; still lot of homophobia there. There are many things I regret, the biggest being what I wish I had told her when I still could. Chloe reminded me of my girlfriend's mannerisms, and the deep friendship she shared with Max was so relatable and uncanny in how similar it was to how my girlfriend and I started as best friends. Even how the character spoke and dressed made me immediately see HER. It's a big reason why this game hit me SO hard, I loved the game but I always dragged my feet coming back to it 'cause I knew how much I'd hurt by the end of each episode. So thank you, Mari and Stacy, for playing Life is Strange, for sharing the laughs, theories, and even the 'feels'. You two are amazing and I'm glad I stumbled across your channel when I did.
SPOILERS 2 stages of the dream represent the 2 final decisions, the part in the dinner represents saving Arcadia Bay, and the friendship trip represents saving Chloe.
+wolf night I think you've got it backwards. In the diner, Dream Max criticizes using her powers just to save Chloe, and most of the other people in the diner ask why you let them die. In the friendship trip, it reinforces the relationship between Max and Chloe to make sacrificing her more impactful.
+OnlyARide it can work both ways XD but the diner can sort of make the players feel some sort of remorse for the characters in Arcadia bay, and lead you to want to save them, while the friendship trip brings back all the memories and can make a player recall why Chloe should be saved and why she is so important to Max, but you are right as well in that sense.
No one's gonna convince me that anyone survived that storm, the whole point of that diner scene was to show that everyone there was going to die if you sacrificed the town. David and (Jefferson determent) are probably the only ones who had a chance.
David Stratton The entire town was destroyed, you think it just hit the coast? Did you see the size of that thing, everyone in Arcadia died, period. That's why even all the schoolkids were in the diner at the end, the whole point of that scene was them pleading for your life.
This is the 3rd let's play of LiS I watched, but for me, your content was unrivaled - by far - to *any* let's play I *ever* saw so far (I saw quite a few). And I think it's because I could relate strongly to the way you reacted, explained your decisions, talked to each other and shared your insight about relationships and issues related to mental health - even the really painful ones you shared from your personal life, which I *greatly* respect. And the way you talked about those issues made real sense to me and felt both caring and healthily protective (e.g. how you adamantly defended Chloe against her abusive stepfather). I'm going to watch more of your let's plays, but you already made me raise my standards regarding what I'm looking for from content creators. Oh, and I was repeatedly astounded by your - pretty much pinpoint - ability to predict the game story (in Beyond: Two Souls too!).
I imagine it must have been strange for the voice actress who did Max. Typically when you voice act, you are not acting out with any other actors, you are reading your lines in a sound booth so you often do not have a lot of context. So the scene in the dreamscape where she is forced to fawn over Jefferson and thank him for killing Cloe must have seemed very out of place for her. I can imagine her reading the lines and saying " what the actual fuck? whose lines are these? what? me? how the hell does this fit in???"
Agreed. In general, I do believe voice actors will endure any kind of dialogue in order to produce the intended emotions or ideas from the dialogue. (But just to add a stretched interpretation of mine from the nightmare scenes, I do not think they were purposeless, in fact, i believe they have a lot of purpose esp. before her final decision; she is at her unconcious mind of her own fears and thoughts of other people's thoughts and having to face such. It's just to remind Max of her moments of everyone and seperately Chloe.)

When I first discovered you two (which was when you started playing this game), I was so fascinated by what you said. Your theories had so much time and thought put into them, and it's quite evident in how many different sources you used to back up your theories. You guys have made me rethink how I play games, showing me that there's more to a game than just the game play alone though these theories, especially after #MariWasRight2015 and #StacyWasRight2015. (biased Pricefield theory) In my brain, Max saved the Bay the first time around, but regretting it after realizing life w/o Chloe is garbage and going back to Jefferson's class but losing her memory in the process. Thats why she sees the tornado so much and she's seeing the people in the diner in the nightmare guilt-tripping her cos she already knows subconsciously that she would need to sacrifice them get Chloe, but for the last loop she finally does. BAE OVER BAE
Why are the people who chose to sacrifice Chloe so angry at the people who chose to sacrifice Arcadia Bay? I mean, I've never seen so much self-righteous indignation over an ending before. People choosing the one you didn't choose doesn't invalidate your choice. They have their reasons for it, and you're spending your time making them feel like horrible people. Get over yourselves.

+starcobra2 I actually compared the cars with each other though I don't care much about Warren (sorry). And you see the slightly yellow rim of one of the tires. It's not the same as the one on Warren's car. The car you see in this ending could be seen before near the diner (I think in episode 2 or 3).
Awesome playthrough! Picking Chloe over Arcadia Bay was the right choice to me. As for anybody who says their choices didn't matter, in games like these (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, any Telltale game) it's all about the journey, not the destination. Usually, we're all bound to get the same ending, but the choices and emotions behind those choices are our own. Thanks for the entertainment! Can't wait to see what you do next! n.n
If Chloe dies she would die sad knowing that her friend is missing, max left her, and that she has a Terriable step dad max was the one making Chloe realise Rachel was dead her step dad cared about her and even max so Chloe will just die sad knowing no one cares about her. If Chloe lives she realise that people care about her so that when she does die she does knowing people cared about her. So letting Chloe die means she dies sad because max was the one bringing her a fun adventure making her realise people cared about her. If she lives it's good because when she dies she dies knowing people cared about her so sacrificing Arcadia bay is a good choice.

I chose to sacrifice Chloe in my game. Especially what Chloe said convinced me that this is the right ending. "My mom deserves so much more than to be killed by a storm in a fucking diner.. Even David deserves her alive".. All those people we met.. Joyce, Kate, Warren, David.. Everyone just dies because of Max's actions. Everyone would have had a life to continue and probably has families and friends outside Arcadia. Yes.. You loose a loved one by sacrifcing Chloe.. But if you sacrifice the town.. Thousands of people would loose a loved one.. What would they say?.. One importand thing to learn in life is that sometimes things happen and you can do nothing to stop it. You have to accept this and undestand that life goes on. If Max hadn't gotten her power, Chloe would have died. The Power offered Max the chance to change this outcome.. But the rewind-power also gave her extra time with Chloe. That time with Chloe will always be in Max's heart. She will always remember it. The path is the goal. This is what Chloe was saying.. And she also was accepting her fate. Also if you think about it: if you sacrifce the town, you basicly accept the offer and pull Chloe out of her timeline. But in the other ending, you don't actually "sacrifice" Chloe. You just let time go on like it was meant to be in the first place, accepting the fact that life goes on and you can't change everything.
I can't imagine all those people confronting me about it, like "what the fuck is wrong with you? You got your girlfriend but I lost my entire fucking family in that storm!"
+None Agreed. Chloe was kinda of selfish the whole game. In the nightmare. The other Max may have sounded wrong but she actually right. Chloe manipulates Max too much. In my eyes though Chloe wasn't completely a good person. Even though I think the sacrifice Arcadia bay ending is slightly more fitting. It makes me wonder for anyone who didn't sacrifice Chloe, did they put themselves in the situation of the townspeople during the storm/tornado. I am not sure whether to call the sacrifice Arcadia bay ending selfish or not though? Many people tell me it isn't selfish.
My Head cannon: After C and M drive away into the sunset, they move to California and own one of those beach houses. Chloe takes a part time job as a lifeguard and Max works on her photography of the sunset and the crabs n stuff. Once they get enough money, they move to L.A. Max becomes a full time photographer and chloe is a special effect artist on movies. They create a kind of monthly book called "FX Monthly" where Max takes BTS shots from movies Chloe works on and they interview other special effects people about their roles and stuff. They occasionally return to Arcadia Bay to help people clear the damage/ look for survivors, after 2 years, they only find one surviver: Samuel... What?! I like samuel...
Honestly this ending is pretty heartless, imo. When I played, I felt that my Max was given the powers to say goodbye to Chloe and to protect Arcadia Bay. Like she had a duty to solve the mystery and protect the town. I feel like this is the selfish way out. I mean, how can anyone just let a whole town die knowing they could have easily saved it? The people of Arcadia Bay all have memories and people they are fond of just like we loved Chloe. How can a person just end so many lives at once and not regret it? Anyway, those were my reasons for choosing the sacrifice Chloe ending. I loved Arcadia Bay. :'( Without it we wouldn't have even had the time with Chloe in the first place. So those were my reasons for picking the other ending.
Arcadia Bay didn't need Max's power. You can see that in the Sacrifice Chloe ending. If Max doesn't act, Nathan shoots Chloe, gets arrested and confesses to the police. This way Jefferson gets arrested too. This also saves Kate, because the town figures out what happened to her. So, you could say that she was given the power to say goodbye to Chloe (or to save her and stay with her), but not to protect Arcadia Bay.
In my opinion (since everyone else is putting theirs out there), I sacrificed Chloe, because it was morally the right thing to do and I'm always the one who tries to save everyone. Plus, I thought that ending gave justice. Chloe knew what was at stake and she told Max she was ready. Two more things: 1. THEY KISS!! Hello!? 2. The new track for the ending and just pretty much the whole cutscene. When I first played it, yes I sacrificed Chloe, but then I replayed for my alternative choice and I was actually a little upset because to me it was quick. Town is a wreck, bodies on the ground, no sign of survivors. That's depressing. And then finally there was the guilt of all the planned futures of those people who you helped in past times? They're dead. It was all for not. You just-dead. In conclusion, Stacy & Mari. It was fun it was awesome watching you two play. Of course, one of you ALWAYS deduct the truth with ease and so well thought thinking. I absolutely admire that. Congratulations!

I want to thank the both of you for doing this LP, even though I'm late to the party. Now I don't feel so alone about the whole David Madson thing. I love how the both of you don't make excuses for his abusive behavior in earlier episodes. My only gripe was the fact that Mari played ahead, which took away from the commentary for the last episode. On the other hand, I'm not too upset because If I were in Mari's shoes, I wouldn't want to wait to play either. Overall, despite that, you guy's LP of this game is the only other one I was able to finish without getting annoyed with the person playing.

I don't care how one slices it, but a girl who suddenly gets temporal powers & changes a few great, however still overall insignificant things in a small town suddenly creates several odd phenomena all summing up into a storm that gets everyone killed as some falderal consequence. That crap is getting old. Stop pretending that it isn't cruel to give some one power to change small things that only we would think valuable then pretend that persons wrong for actually doing the right thing & reprimand them with catastrophes they couldn't have possibly given rise to in the wake of their action. /rant Now that I got that out of the way, as always you girls play & commentate a good show. I found myself making theories along side you only for one of my most cynical to come true. lol
Everyone in the diner that was in there whenever Max was going to get the photo from Warren is dead in the "Save Arcadia Bay" option because while going back to get the photo from Warren the diner blows up. When you're with Chloe in the end you're not there to make sure it won't happen, so Joyce, Warren, Frank, Pompidou, etc would all be dead in that ending.
YES! BAE OVER BAY FTW! I was kind of sad this episode because I expected them to sacrifice Chloe. So pleasantly surprised. Pretty satisfying ending IMO (I cried like a baby when I made that choice on my own).

As long as we are discussing headcanons, here's mine. When Max and Chloe leave Arcadia Bay they are staying at an out of town hotel to rest a bit and come back the next day to see if anyone's alright. Since Max didn't warn Victoria about the Dark Room in the final timeline, she's still alive at the time of the storm, and is with her friends at the dorms when the storm began to hit. As for the students and teachers who where on campus at the time, since the school didn't have a shelter, what people do in shelters is take to higher ground to avoid water damage and keep clear of windows in a storm so they hide out in second story hallways in the school or dorms would be the ideal hiding spot. Kate's likely alive seeing as her family was going to visit her and probably pick her up around the time the storm hit. If she is still at the hospital, she probably took to hiding on high ground while avoiding windows as well, assuming of course hospitals don't have a safety plan for hurricanes. In the altered timeline, Jefferson was arrested a mere day before the storm, so he was likely in holding at the time of the storm, so his chances of survival are slim. As for those who where in the Two Whales Diner, their fates are up in the air. I think we see Frank's body, so he's dead, but I like to think his dog is alive, probably adopted by a Blackwell student or teacher. David was either in the diner to be with Joyce or was in the Dark Room with other police officers, collecting some more evidence on Jefferson. Sadly from a story telling perspective it makes sense for Joyce to die while David lives; it would give him and Chloe something to get and understanding over.
This game ripped my heart out. I couldn't sacrifice everyone in the town. Especially knowing that the timeline will likely continue to tear itself apart trying to kill Chloe. I beat it a few days ago and I still can't stop thinking about it. I think they should have called it "Life is... depressing and there's nothing you can do about it!".

I'm glad the episode five with Stacy got made, it just wasn't the same without her. On the subject of the morality Max's time travel powers in episode three I sided with Chloe vs David and then rewound quickly when that led to Joyce kicking David out. I just panicked at the thought of breaking up their marriage, but later on I realized holy shit I just overruled Joyce's free will to keep in a marriage she just said she wanted out of, I'm a monster.
This play-through is amazing, and you two are some top-shelf awesome. All the effort you put into these things-the research, the theories, the insert screens of info-make these a joy to watch, even for a not-gamer like me. And the way you put yourselves out there, talking so openly about your personal experiences and views on life, offering real-life insight through fictional characters, is inspiring. I know it's like three years later but I just wanted to say this was the best let's play of Life is Strange that I've ever watched. I've played this game three times, and I've watched many play throughs and what not. I actually watched your Before the Storm playthrough first, and then I saw this Life is Strange Play through. (It's actually kind of weird hearing you guys talk about the LIS game while playing the LISBTS game since its not chronologically what happened. BUT WHAT IS TIME ANYWAY?!) Anyway, it was fun to listen to while I worked. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts, theories, stories and random tangents!
I'm selfish if it protects those I love then I'd probably sacrifice the Bay. "Needs of the many outweigh, the needs of the few" is only easy when the person has no stake in it... but it isn't a easy and clear answer when the person you love is up to be a sacrifice.
Im kind of irritated that they call max on her faults, but when it comes to Chloe, they disregard any of her criticisms. I love this playthrough, but I think they go little overboard with the chloe love.

Having played Before the Storm my dedication to saving Chloe only grew. Screw everything, I cannot let her die sad and alone after so much terrible shit has happened in her life. Chloe does not deserve to die for the crime of just fucking living, I cannot ever make that choice.
I sacrificed Chloe the first time. It was a nice ending. I'm a pretty bad person, so I played it again and sacrificed the town, and that ending made me happier.
The game was about the development of Max character. Her growth, her changing from the shy, quiet girl to the confident, self-assured woman. The girl that went into the bathroom is a completely different person than the Max that comes out 5 minutes later (if you chose the right ending of course, fuck sacrificing Arcadia Bay ;)). So everything you did was important and did stick - just not in the timeline, but in the character of Max. All the connections she made she can remake - only this time not through cheating or because she needs to reach a goal, but because she wants to genuinely be a friend to the person, be it Kate, Victoria or David. She's also the one that keeps Chole alive by remembering her. The Max at the end of the game wouldn't hesitate a second to put her work out there into the world, thanks to all the things she went through. Or, you know, you can kill all of them just to prolong your adolescence a few days longer until your time power destroys the universe for good. ^-^. To be less snippy, the ending you chose did leave me completely cold, I'm very glad I went with the other one, which was extremely heart wrenching and made me cry for quite a time. One of the saddest things I've ever had to do in a game. Do nothing.
Honestly I had to sacrifice Chloe. She really got me when she said her mom deserved more than this and that for once she should accept her fate. Also this is just a theory but I think Chloe may keep dying. In a lot of scenes where she dies or almost die they close in on her necklace, which is what they did in this ending.

Not trying to criticise your choices to Sacrifice the Bay, but by sacrificing the Bay you took away the chance for hundreds of people (like Stacy said) to l change the way they live and make their life matter, second chances, because this power already gave Chloe and Max the second chance they needed. You're changing fate. It's a tough thing to think about if Sacrificing millions for the one you love, some people to it in impulse, in a heartbeat, because of love. But if it was real, it would be hard to do. So thanks for saying the reason why the ending was not so detailed, we dont wanna see them in regret or whatever. I just wished there was a 3rd choice to sacrifice Max or something (coming in between Chloe & Nathan) lol
I love how deep they get with the little details in the game. Episodes 1-3 were all just fun & games between Chloe & Max for the most part, but episodes 4 & 5 dig deeper into the meaning of life. Everyone around you dies. All your best friends, all your relatives, everyone. I know you don't want to realize this & you want to focus on something else to get your mind off of the sadness that is life. The real question, as Mari said, is this. People say that they would do anything to get that one person back. To tell them that you love them. To tell the truth if you have ever told them a lie. To get that one chance. That last chance. Max was given her powers to have more time with Chloe. She got that last chance. And at the end when you can either sacrifice Chloe or sacrifice Arcadia Bay, it's really testing what you would do if you were actually in Max's situation in real life. Would you really do anything to save that person? Would you sacrifice everyone in the world just so that you and that person could live together? Would you pay that price? (No pun intended with the price thing...) But seriously. What would you do?
So, I watched your entire Let's Play this weekend and I just want to compliment you guys. I had so much fun watching it, keep up the great work :) Personally, I would have chosen to sacrifice Chloe because I think in terms of utilitarism and I would be very mad at Max if I was Chloe because she just killed my whole damn family. Further Chloe can never leave Max now without feeling guilty as fuck and people change. Maybe someday they won't get along with each other anymore, I mean that's life and life is so not fair :D However, I understand why you chose this ending and as you said, people can interpret whatever they want in the ending they chose. You girls are amazing, I waited for Stacy to come back from her honeymoon so that I could watch the LP and, I'm sorry, but this ending, it just doesn't feel right, at least not for me.
I'm hella late to the party; I guess better late than never. Despite the watchthrough taking many hours it feels very much worth it. Been a while since I've seen streamers that are so immersed and having so much to say about a game, esp in real time. Your comments, among other things, help as a proof to me that this game is pretty well written. It's definitely very impactful for a lot of ppl including me, but I am also a big fan when it's all logical as an underline and when I don't need to second guess my experience. About the ending, I have my own reasons to prefer sacrificing the A. B. - it seems more right for the world and for Max to me, strangely. I think what's often ignored is that Max for once gives up on using time powers, - and I'd guess for good - so she does go on living with choices she made, and with the people having seen the true image of her, even if she does drive out of A. B. in search for a better life with Chloe. With the other ending, it's sort of like the game was a dream, iykwim - nothing Max did actually needed to be done and while I appreciate that ending and it's importance, I don't think it's very meaningful outside of meta and lessons of the story for the players. Ultimately, the Arcadia Bay didn't do that good for our protagonist in itself - if something like the Dark Room was even allowed to be made and take place here, this place probably deserves something like the Sodom and Gomorrah treatment in a sense. Of course, if you asked me being placed in that position myself, I would prolly think of these reasons I listed as excuses and I'm not sure what I'd really do. But throughout the game, to me personally Max felt as much as a "person", with her own opinions and wants, as the other main characters; even though I decided the choices, her happiness was on the same level of importance to me as Chloe's and others. So to all the people choosing the other ending for the reason of it being "objectively" the better moral choice, I say - what did Max do to really deserve that restart with her best friend dying? After all that she did to make people's lives around her better and the traumatic experiences in the dark room, IMO she needed therapy, not a type of manslaughter that's also directed at her best friend on her conscience on top of everything else. I do like the drama and the story of it, but I don't really see the other ending as merely the mature option, because despite me shaping much of her path, I'm not Max; especially so after the game ends - she continues as her own person, and in that ending none of her heroic sacrifices would be appreciated in the Arcadia Bay (her powers being the subject of imagination fueled by regrets is IMO a theory with solid ground as a representation or a theme, but the plot doesn't support it as a factual scenario - there's no evidence to support that in the game's universe the time-travel isn't real). I love both endings, to be honest - in retrospect, while not rejecting all the criticism given when the game was released (most of all, the conclusion's rushed nature), I just have to say that it stands the test of time well enough. For one thing, I miss having stories with bittersweet endings. Hell, the mainstream media doesn't allow the important characters to die anymore, so unlike LIS that didn't pull the punches; the only exception probably being the ending I favored, for all the good reasons Geek Remix had acknowledged. It's a pity I didn't experience the game earlier, but I think I did need it at this time of life - like how I needed to give out my perspective to the world. In fewer words, you playthrough was awesome so I wanted to mark it with a comment that took atl somewhat comparable effort. Didn't see any videos less than 6 years old on your channel yet but I have pretty high expectations ;)
Watching you guys play this game was such a journey. I couldnt buy it myself so I decided to watch yours but im so happy i didnt buy it cuz i wouldve never listened to your great theories and little things you noticed. I love the way you guys have fun but also get into the game.
My headcanon: after the storm, chloe and max go stay with Max's parents for a few weeks, then they move to LA, get a studio apartment. Max becomes a famous photographer, chloe goes to college, They get married,
Whew... well, I cry at both endings. I find it hard to even watch this one all the way through, because something in me just doesn't believe Max and Chloe will actually be happy. I worry they'll never recover, they'll be devastated despite having each other. (I've always assumed no one else survives, because I think that fits the deeper themes and "message" of the game, but respect that not everyone feels the same). It's hard to watch "sacrifice Chloe" ending because she is my favorite character, and I so hate the idea that (in at least one reality) Chloe's life ends there in the bathroom with Nathan. Never having reconnected with Max, learned the truth about Rachel's disappearance, told anyone about being dosed, or helped prevent what happened to her&Rachel&Kate from happening to anyone else. Still feeling alone, abandoned, hurt, angry at the world, etc. That's all so fucking tragic to me, it hurts typing it. With "sacrifice Chloe" ending, it brings a little comfort to think that to "our" Max, her week with Chloe was real and special. She got to "go back" and have what so many of us wish we could, some final quality time with a loved one before their death. And Max got to prevent Jefferson from harming others*. But I was so invested in these characters - death, loss, and futility are such a hard note to end on. *Got to say though - with all the awful, victim-blaming, apologist reactions other players had to the kidnappings/dosings/etc, my heart also aches knowing there are other Jeffersons in the real world. And it won't end without major cultural change. Anyway. Sorry for the extra long comment. I realize this is years later, but still, thanks so much for playing this. Your commentary, humor, immersion, theories and sensitivity about some of the big issues, makes this the best Let's Play I've seen by far.
If you had killed Chloe, I would have bawled. As it was, I was only slightly teary through most of this. I think the people in the diner survived, so I think that Joyce lived, as with Warren. I think Alyssa died though. David's obviously still alive; he was in the bunker. I'm really satisfied with this ending.
The diner didn't blow up in the sacrifice of Arcadia Bay. So does that mean that Max's actions in the past still took place? She met up with Chloe on the beach after meeting Warren at the diner? I'm confused, now, because the diner should have been explodinated. Is Alyssa alive in this timeline? I think Victoria is alive in this one, too, since I assume she wasn't taken by Jefferson in this reality. So I think that Arcadia Bay, just logically, isn't actually as bad off in this line than it appears to be. I mean that in terms of human lives lost. So long as you weren't directly on the water, you were honestly probably fine? /: So I'm pretty happy with this ending. I guess I'm selfish and immoral x3

You can see if you managed to save everyone during the storm, the trucker, evan, alyssa etc and you can see if you gave David a wound on his head or if he killed Jefferson or not and see your stats compared to everyone else! Chloe could also have a happy ending even if she dies, because she'd be with Rachel. The only people who wouldn't have a fully happy ending would be Joyce and David because she died, Nathan because he'd have to serve more time, and max because Chloe would be gone. Either way, someone will be disappointed and others happy. (kinda thought this through as I typed so hopefully it makes a little bit of sense (I also just pulled an all nighter to fix my sleep schedule so if it makes no sense, I blame lack of sleep.))
The worst part about the alternate ending (Sacrifice Chloe) is that the Chloe in that time will die thinking that her lover/best friend just left her without a trace, and that Max had never cared to call or even text, that Max didn't love her anymore. The worst part of that ending was that Chloe dies thinking that everyone in her life really would "never miss her punk-ass."

Emma Wolf the worst part about sacrificing Arcadia bay is that everyone in the town dies (and who really wants to kill Warren 😒) also it’s pretty obvious that whenever we save chloe the universe tries to balance itself by killing other things ie the birds and the whales... and the massive storm that happens. So by saving chloe you don’t accomplish anything these bad events will continue to happen as long as chloe stays alive. Plus if you sacrifice chloe the teacher gets arrested without anyone else getting hurt, and Nathan can get the help he needs/deserves for his mental health in prison 🤷♂️

I completely agree about the ending. I would give anything to get one more day with my girlfriend. She passed away a few months ago (having found out from a phone call) - I didn't want to believe it for the longest time. Family didn't help; still lot of homophobia there.
There are many things I regret, the biggest being what I wish I had told her when I still could.
Chloe reminded me of my girlfriend's mannerisms, and the deep friendship she shared with Max was so relatable and uncanny in how similar it was to how my girlfriend and I started as best friends. Even how the character spoke and dressed made me immediately see HER. It's a big reason why this game hit me SO hard, I loved the game but I always dragged my feet coming back to it 'cause I knew how much I'd hurt by the end of each episode.
So thank you, Mari and Stacy, for playing Life is Strange, for sharing the laughs, theories, and even the 'feels'. You two are amazing and I'm glad I stumbled across your channel when I did.

+wolf night I think you've got it backwards. In the diner, Dream Max criticizes using her powers just to save Chloe, and most of the other people in the diner ask why you let them die. In the friendship trip, it reinforces the relationship between Max and Chloe to make sacrificing her more impactful.

No one's gonna convince me that anyone survived that storm, the whole point of that diner scene was to show that everyone there was going to die if you sacrificed the town. David and (Jefferson determent) are probably the only ones who had a chance.

This is the 3rd let's play of LiS I watched, but for me, your content was unrivaled - by far - to *any* let's play I *ever* saw so far (I saw quite a few).
And I think it's because I could relate strongly to the way you reacted, explained your decisions, talked to each other and shared your insight about relationships and issues related to mental health - even the really painful ones you shared from your personal life, which I *greatly* respect. And the way you talked about those issues made real sense to me and felt both caring and healthily protective (e.g. how you adamantly defended Chloe against her abusive stepfather).
I'm going to watch more of your let's plays, but you already made me raise my standards regarding what I'm looking for from content creators.
Oh, and I was repeatedly astounded by your - pretty much pinpoint - ability to predict the game story (in Beyond: Two Souls too!).
I imagine it must have been strange for the voice actress who did Max. Typically when you voice act, you are not acting out with any other actors, you are reading your lines in a sound booth so you often do not have a lot of context. So the scene in the dreamscape where she is forced to fawn over Jefferson and thank him for killing Cloe must have seemed very out of place for her. I can imagine her reading the lines and saying " what the actual fuck? whose lines are these? what? me? how the hell does this fit in???"
Agreed. In general, I do believe voice actors will endure any kind of dialogue in order to produce the intended emotions or ideas from the dialogue. (But just to add a stretched interpretation of mine from the nightmare scenes, I do not think they were purposeless, in fact, i believe they have a lot of purpose esp. before her final decision; she is at her unconcious mind of her own fears and thoughts of other people's thoughts and having to face such. It's just to remind Max of her moments of everyone and seperately Chloe.)

When I first discovered you two (which was when you started playing this game), I was so fascinated by what you said. Awesome playthrough! Picking Chloe over Arcadia Bay was the right choice to me. As for anybody who says their choices didn't matter, in games like these (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, any Telltale game) it's all about the journey, not the destination. Usually, we're all bound to get the same ending, but the choices and emotions behind those choices are our own. Thanks for the entertainment! Can't wait to see what you do next! n.n
If Chloe dies she would die sad knowing that her friend is missing, max left her, and that she has a Terriable step dad max was the one making Chloe realise Rachel was dead her step dad cared about her and even max so Chloe will just die sad knowing no one cares about her.
If Chloe lives she realise that people care about her so that when she does die she does knowing people cared about her.
So letting Chloe die means she dies sad because max was the one bringing her a fun adventure making her realise people cared about her.
If she lives it's good because when she dies she dies knowing people cared about her so sacrificing Arcadia bay is a good choice.

I chose to sacrifice Chloe in my game.
Especially what Chloe said convinced me that this is the right ending. "My mom deserves so much more than to be killed by a storm in a fucking diner.. Even David deserves her alive".. All those people we met.. Joyce, Kate, Warren, David.. Everyone just dies because of Max's actions. Everyone would have had a life to continue and probably has families and friends outside Arcadia. Yes.. You loose a loved one by sacrifcing Chloe.. But if you sacrifice the town.. Thousands of people would loose a loved one.. What would they say?.. One importand thing to learn in life is that sometimes things happen and you can do nothing to stop it. You have to accept this and undestand that life goes on. If Max hadn't gotten her power, Chloe would have died. The Power offered Max the chance to change this outcome.. But the rewind-power also gave her extra time with Chloe. That time with Chloe will always be in Max's heart. She will always remember it. The path is the goal. This is what Chloe was saying.. And she also was accepting her fate.
Also if you think about it: if you sacrifce the town, you basicly accept the offer and pull Chloe out of her timeline. But in the other ending, you don't actually "sacrifice" Chloe. You just let time go on like it was meant to be in the first place, accepting the fact that life goes on and you can't change everything.
I can't imagine all those people confronting me about it, like "what the fuck is wrong with you? You got your girlfriend but I lost my entire fucking family in that storm!"

It makes me wonder for anyone who didn't sacrifice Chloe, did they put themselves in the situation of the townspeople during the storm/tornado. My Head cannon:
After C and M drive away into the sunset, they move to California and own one of those beach houses. Chloe takes a part time job as a lifeguard and Max works on her photography of the sunset and the crabs n stuff. Once they get enough money, they move to L.A. Max becomes a full time photographer and chloe is a special effect artist on movies. They create a kind of monthly book called "FX Monthly" where Max takes BTS shots from movies Chloe works on and they interview other special effects people about their roles and stuff. They occasionally return to Arcadia Bay to help people clear the damage/ look for survivors, after 2 years, they only find one surviver: Samuel...

Honestly this ending is pretty heartless, imo. When I played, I felt that my Max was given the powers to say goodbye to Chloe and to protect Arcadia Bay. Like she had a duty to solve the mystery and protect the town. I feel like this is the selfish way out. I mean, how can anyone just let a whole town die knowing they could have easily saved it? The people of Arcadia Bay all have memories and people they are fond of just like we loved Chloe. How can a person just end so many lives at once and not regret it? Anyway, those were my reasons for choosing the sacrifice Chloe ending. I loved Arcadia Bay. :'( Without it we wouldn't have even had the time with Chloe in the first place. So those were my reasons for picking the other ending.
Arcadia Bay didn't need Max's power. You can see that in the Sacrifice Chloe ending. If Max doesn't act, Nathan shoots Chloe, gets arrested and confesses to the police. This way Jefferson gets arrested too. This also saves Kate, because the town figures out what happened to her.
So, you could say that she was given the power to say goodbye to Chloe (or to save her and stay with her), but not to protect Arcadia Bay.
In my opinion (since everyone else is putting theirs out there), I sacrificed Chloe, because it was morally the right thing to do and I'm always the one who tries to save everyone. Plus, I thought that ending gave justice. Chloe knew what was at stake and she told Max she was ready. Two more things: 1. THEY KISS!! Hello!? 2. The new track for the ending and just pretty much the whole cutscene. When I first played it, yes I sacrificed Chloe, but then I replayed for my alternative choice and I was actually a little upset because to me it was quick. Town is a wreck, bodies on the ground, no sign of survivors. That's depressing. And then finally there was the guilt of all the planned futures of those people who you helped in past times? They're dead. It was all for not. You just-dead.
In conclusion, Stacy & Mari. It was fun it was awesome watching you two play. Of course, one of you ALWAYS deduct the truth with ease and so well thought thinking. I absolutely admire that. Congratulations!

I want to thank the both of you for doing this LP, even though I'm late to the party. Now I don't feel so alone about the whole David Madson thing. I love how the both of you don't make excuses for his abusive behavior in earlier episodes. My only gripe was the fact that Mari played ahead, which took away from the commentary for the last episode. On the other hand, I'm not too upset because If I were in Mari's shoes, I wouldn't want to wait to play either. Overall, despite that, you guy's LP of this game is the only other one I was able to finish without getting annoyed with the person playing.

Everyone in the diner that was in there whenever Max was going to get the photo from Warren is dead in the "Save Arcadia Bay" option because while going back to get the photo from Warren the diner blows up. When you're with Chloe in the end you're not there to make sure it won't happen, so Joyce, Warren, Frank, Pompidou, etc would all be dead in that ending.
YES! BAE OVER BAY FTW! I was kind of sad this episode because I expected them to sacrifice Chloe. So pleasantly surprised. Pretty satisfying ending IMO (I cried like a baby when I made that choice on my own).

As long as we are discussing headcanons, here's mine.
When Max and Chloe leave Arcadia Bay they are staying at an out of town hotel to rest a bit and come back the next day to see if anyone's alright.
Since Max didn't warn Victoria about the Dark Room in the final timeline, she's still alive at the time of the storm, and is with her friends at the dorms when the storm began to hit. As for the students and teachers who where on campus at the time, since the school didn't have a shelter, what people do in shelters is take to higher ground to avoid water damage and keep clear of windows in a storm so they hide out in second story hallways in the school or dorms would be the ideal hiding spot.
Kate's likely alive seeing as her family was going to visit her and probably pick her up around the time the storm hit. If she is still at the hospital, she probably took to hiding on high ground while avoiding windows as well, assuming of course hospitals don't have a safety plan for hurricanes.
In the altered timeline, Jefferson was arrested a mere day before the storm, so he was likely in holding at the time of the storm, so his chances of survival are slim.
As for those who where in the Two Whales Diner, their fates are up in the air. I think we see Frank's body, so he's dead, but I like to think his dog is alive, probably adopted by a Blackwell student or teacher.
David was either in the diner to be with Joyce or was in the Dark Room with other police officers, collecting some more evidence on Jefferson. Sadly from a story telling perspective it makes sense for Joyce to die while David lives; it would give him and Chloe something to get and understanding over.

This game ripped my heart out. I couldn't sacrifice everyone in the town. Especially knowing that the timeline will likely continue to tear itself apart trying to kill Chloe. I beat it a few days ago and I still can't stop thinking about it. I think they should have called it "Life is... depressing and there's nothing you can do about it!".
Thanks Mari and Stacy for playing this game. You girls did an awesome job, taking time to go through things, pointing out symbols which I would never have bothered noticing, theorizing and bringing up real life issues which most people who have just brushed off because it's well, just a game. I'm glad the episode five with Stacy got made, it just wasn't the same without her. On the subject of the morality Max's time travel powers in episode three I sided with Chloe vs David and then rewound quickly when that led to Joyce kicking David out. I just panicked at the thought of breaking up their marriage, but later on I realized holy shit I just overruled Joyce's free will to keep in a marriage she just said she wanted out of, I'm a monster.
This game is a lot more powerful after you've lost someone and you wanted to do the thing you wanted to do with them

I know it's like three years later but I just wanted to say this was the best let's play of Life is Strange that I've ever watched. I've played this game three times, and I've watched many play throughs and what not. I actually watched your Before the Storm playthrough first, and then I saw this Life is Strange Play through. "Needs of the many outweigh, the needs of the few" is only easy when the person has no stake in it... but it isn't a easy and clear answer when the person you love is up to be a sacrifice.
Im kind of irritated that they call max on her faults, but when it comes to Chloe, they disregard any of her criticisms. I love this playthrough, but I think they go little overboard with the chloe love.

Having played Before the Storm my dedication to saving Chloe only grew.
Screw everything, I cannot let her die sad and alone after so much terrible shit has happened in her life. Chloe does not deserve to die for the crime of just fucking living, I cannot ever make that choice.

Well, now we can all marathon you guys playing all five episodes. Yay, self torture!
The game was about the development of Max character. Her growth, her changing from the shy, quiet girl to the confident, self-assured woman. The girl that went into the bathroom is a completely different person than the Max that comes out 5 minutes later (if you chose the right ending of course, fuck sacrificing Arcadia Bay ;)). So everything you did was important and did stick - just not in the timeline, but in the character of Max. All the connections she made she can remake - only this time not through cheating or because she needs to reach a goal, but because she wants to genuinely be a friend to the person, be it Kate, Victoria or David. She's also the one that keeps Chole alive by remembering her. The Max at the end of the game wouldn't hesitate a second to put her work out there into the world, thanks to all the things she went through.
Or, you know, you can kill all of them just to prolong your adolescence a few days longer until your time power destroys the universe for good. ^-^.
To be less snippy, the ending you chose did leave me completely cold, I'm very glad I went with the other one, which was extremely heart wrenching and made me cry for quite a time. One of the saddest things I've ever had to do in a game. Do nothing.
Honestly I had to sacrifice Chloe. She really got me when she said her mom deserved more than this and that for once she should accept her fate. Also this is just a theory but I think Chloe may keep dying. In a lot of scenes where she dies or almost die they close in on her necklace, which is what they did in this ending.
HOWEVER; I do believe both endings are valid and understand both choices

Not trying to criticise your choices to Sacrifice the Bay, but by sacrificing the Bay you took away the chance for hundreds of people (like Stacy said) to l change the way they live and make their life matter, second chances, because this power already gave Chloe and Max the second chance they needed. You're changing fate.
It's a tough thing to think about if Sacrificing millions for the one you love, some people to it in impulse, in a heartbeat, because of love. But if it was real, it would be hard to do. So thanks for saying the reason why the ending was not so detailed, we dont wanna see them in regret or whatever. I just wished there was a 3rd choice to sacrifice Max or something (coming in between Chloe & Nathan) lol

I love how deep they get with the little details in the game. Episodes 1-3 were all just fun & games between Chloe & Max for the most part, but episodes 4 & 5 dig deeper into the meaning of life. Everyone around you dies. All your best friends, all your relatives, everyone. I know you don't want to realize this & you want to focus on something else to get your mind off of the sadness that is life. The real question, as Mari said, is this. People say that they would do anything to get that one person back. To tell them that you love them. To tell the truth if you have ever told them a lie. To get that one chance. That last chance. Max was given her powers to have more time with Chloe. She got that last chance. And at the end when you can either sacrifice Chloe or sacrifice Arcadia Bay, it's really testing what you would do if you were actually in Max's situation in real life. Would you really do anything to save that person? Would you sacrifice everyone in the world just so that you and that person could live together? Would you pay that price? (No pun intended with the price thing...) But seriously. What would you do?

Personally, I would have chosen to sacrifice Chloe because I think in terms of utilitarism and I would be very mad at Max if I was Chloe because she just killed my whole damn family. Further Chloe can never leave Max now without feeling guilty as fuck and people change. Maybe someday they won't get along with each other anymore, I mean that's life and life is so not fair :D However, I understand why you chose this ending and as you said, people can interpret whatever they want in the ending they chose.

There was a tornado near where I live in California and my first thought upon hearing about it was... "Dam it Mari and Stacy have doomed us all!"
You guys did the exact same thing as me. Like halfway through ep 4 I decided if the world needed to die for me to save Chole I would do it without hesitation.
You girls are amazing, I waited for Stacy to come back from her honeymoon so that I could watch the LP and, I'm sorry, but this ending, it just doesn't feel right, at least not for me.
I'm hella late to the party; I guess better late than never.
Despite the watchthrough taking many hours it feels very much worth it. Been a while since I've seen streamers that are so immersed and having so much to say about a game, esp in real time. Your comments, among other things, help as a proof to me that this game is pretty well written. It's definitely very impactful for a lot of ppl including me, but I am also a big fan when it's all logical as an underline and when I don't need to second guess my experience.
About the ending, I have my own reasons to prefer sacrificing the A. B. - it seems more right for the world and for Max to me, strangely. I think what's often ignored is that Max for once gives up on using time powers, - and I'd guess for good - so she does go on living with choices she made, and with the people having seen the true image of her, even if she does drive out of A. B. in search for a better life with Chloe. With the other ending, it's sort of like the game was a dream, iykwim - nothing Max did actually needed to be done and while I appreciate that ending and it's importance, I don't think it's very meaningful outside of meta and lessons of the story for the players. Ultimately, the Arcadia Bay didn't do that good for our protagonist in itself - if something like the Dark Room was even allowed to be made and take place here, this place probably deserves something like the Sodom and Gomorrah treatment in a sense.
Of course, if you asked me being placed in that position myself, I would prolly think of these reasons I listed as excuses and I'm not sure what I'd really do. But throughout the game, to me personally Max felt as much as a "person", with her own opinions and wants, as the other main characters; even though I decided the choices, her happiness was on the same level of importance to me as Chloe's and others. So to all the people choosing the other ending for the reason of it being "objectively" the better moral choice, I say - what did Max do to really deserve that restart with her best friend dying? After all that she did to make people's lives around her better and the traumatic experiences in the dark room, IMO she needed therapy, not a type of manslaughter that's also directed at her best friend on her conscience on top of everything else. I do like the drama and the story of it, but I don't really see the other ending as merely the mature option, because despite me shaping much of her path, I'm not Max; especially so after the game ends - she continues as her own person, and in that ending none of her heroic sacrifices would be appreciated in the Arcadia Bay (her powers being the subject of imagination fueled by regrets is IMO a theory with solid ground as a representation or a theme, but the plot doesn't support it as a factual scenario - there's no evidence to support that in the game's universe the time-travel isn't real).
I love both endings, to be honest - in retrospect, while not rejecting all the criticism given when the game was released (most of all, the conclusion's rushed nature), I just have to say that it stands the test of time well enough. For one thing, I miss having stories with bittersweet endings. Hell, the mainstream media doesn't allow the important characters to die anymore, so unlike LIS that didn't pull the punches; the only exception probably being the ending I favored, for all the good reasons Geek Remix had acknowledged.
It's a pity I didn't experience the game earlier, but I think I did need it at this time of life - like how I needed to give out my perspective to the world. In fewer words, you playthrough was awesome so I wanted to mark it with a comment that took atl somewhat comparable effort. Didn't see any videos less than 6 years old on your channel yet but I have pretty high expectations ;)
Watching you guys play this game was such a journey. I couldnt buy it myself so I decided to watch yours but im so happy i didnt buy it cuz i wouldve never listened to your great theories and little things you noticed. I love the way you guys have fun but also get into the game.
My headcanon: after the storm, chloe and max go stay with Max's parents for a few weeks, then they move to LA, get a studio apartment. Max becomes a famous photographer, chloe goes to college, They get married,

Whew... well, I cry at both endings. I find it hard to even watch this one all the way through, because something in me just doesn't believe Max and Chloe will actually be happy. I worry they'll never recover, they'll be devastated despite having each other. (I've always assumed no one else survives, because I think that fits the deeper themes and "message" of the game, but respect that not everyone feels the same).
It's hard to watch "sacrifice Chloe" ending because she is my favorite character, and I so hate the idea that (in at least one reality) Chloe's life ends there in the bathroom with Nathan. Never having reconnected with Max, learned the truth about Rachel's disappearance, told anyone about being dosed, or helped prevent what happened to her&Rachel&Kate from happening to anyone else. Still feeling alone, abandoned, hurt, angry at the world, etc. That's all so fucking tragic to me, it hurts typing it.
With "sacrifice Chloe" ending, it brings a little comfort to think that to "our" Max, her week with Chloe was real and special. She got to "go back" and have what so many of us wish we could, some final quality time with a loved one before their death. And Max got to prevent Jefferson from harming others*. But I was so invested in these characters - death, loss, and futility are such a hard note to end on.
*Got to say though - with all the awful, victim-blaming, apologist reactions other players had to the kidnappings/dosings/etc, my heart also aches knowing there are other Jeffersons in the real world. And it won't end without major cultural change.
Anyway. Sorry for the extra long comment. I realize this is years later, but still, thanks so much for playing this. Your commentary, humor, immersion, theories and sensitivity about some of the big issues, makes this the best Let's Play I've seen by far.

If you had killed Chloe, I would have bawled. As it was, I was only slightly teary through most of this. I think the people in the diner survived, so I think that Joyce lived, as with Warren. I think Alyssa died though. David's obviously still alive; he was in the bunker.

The diner didn't blow up in the sacrifice of Arcadia Bay.
So does that mean that Max's actions in the past still took place? She met up with Chloe on the beach after meeting Warren at the diner? I'm confused, now, because the diner should have been explodinated. Is Alyssa alive in this timeline? I think Victoria is alive in this one, too, since I assume she wasn't taken by Jefferson in this reality.
So I think that Arcadia Bay, just logically, isn't actually as bad off in this line than it appears to be. I mean that in terms of human lives lost. So long as you weren't directly on the water, you were honestly probably fine?

The only people who wouldn't have a fully happy ending would be Joyce and David because she died, Nathan because he'd have to serve more time, and max because Chloe would be gone. Either way, someone will be disappointed and others happy. (kinda thought this through as I typed so hopefully it makes a little bit of sense (I also just pulled an all nighter to fix my sleep schedule so if it makes no sense, I blame lack of sleep.))
