RIP Sean. You will be sorely missed. To me- Sean is the man who pretty much opened up the drumset to being an instrument in many forms of metal, vs the drumset being just a timekeeping thing...
i just bought this cd today from this used cd store. i had seen it before and new the name but not the music. once i came home and listened to them i could have kicked myself. it is so awesome!!!
cynic is amazing. they really created something new, and fresh:P theyre not following any trends or anything, just playing from the heart:P and i love that they managed to squeese in a fretless bassplayer^^ wich sounds awesome with this kind of music, something death proved with steve:P and im soz kiometalfan, im embarassed for you:O
He's not "gone", he's just not touring with them. He records with them but doesn't tour with them. Now it seems that he's more a session bassist anyway since he's more focused on his own material. Plus if you haven't noticed, he's really not the "metal" type of guy at all. He's a jazz bassist who just so happened to play with these guys because he loved the aggression in metal and wanted to add his own flavor to the scene with Cynic.
***** haha forgot about this, i meant the right channel, my headphones at that time didn't have the left or right symbol for me too now. Anywho glad someone noticed :)
xrottenrudyx im sure, ive never dropped but i can only imagine. the first time i heard this album sober it sounded so alien to me but i liked it so much. almost enlightening tracks in this album. when i say it sounded "alien", i mean the solos almost sounded like they could come from another planet lol. her i go again. sorry
so fucking real, i just did that today, this and traced in air is a full lsd experience even if you are sober you can feel some sort of energy flowing through all your body it's so amazing
@BoundByBodom Man, I think Cynic sound waaaay better live than in the studio. The bass and drums become much livelier... would love to see Cynic put out a live album.
@effigyoftheslamz He has rolland MIDI synethized pick ups on / in it as well to give it that awesome tone so the stock pick ups really arent that evident.
@StoneColdSoul07 i get what you mean unlike most peopleout there, but looking at it that way, i think noneof their songs are "made" specifically for live shows
I was told if i like Meshuggah, check out Cynic~ Nice band, nice, original sound, i like the bass breakdown in the middle there.. still was 9/4 for the majority, and as far as complication, its comparable to Tool's Jambi- 9/4 (mostly)w/ez patterns.. or old Candiria. Dont get me wrong, i like this stuff but what i like about MY "9/4" sigs are there's 3 measures and then one 5/4, to = 4/4. The game is to find a tastefull 4/4 melody to fit. Any true math/offtime sig bands out there like that??
you are so fucking right, if any of those comparisons where actually mad, that tells me that emo's are taking over, thus making all metal heads stupid.. or something to that effect...
RIP Sean. You will be sorely missed.
To me- Sean is the man who pretty much opened up the drumset to being an instrument in many forms of metal, vs the drumset being just a timekeeping thing...
Cynic is more intense than most metal bands could ever dream of being even without distortion. R.I.P Sean Malone and Sean Reinert
🙏💔
I think I can honestly say that this is the single greatest piece of music I've ever heard from a metal band.
Same Coul be said by anything that Paul and Sean touched
You should look up the Portal Tapes then
@@zsjb_ *Paul and THE Seans
Rest in peace Sean. Truly gutted by your passing, the metal world has lost one of the greats.
The most underrated band of all time
Isis the Band is great too, check out the album In The Absence of Truth
Amen! 🙏
My fave Cynic song. Used to listen to this over and over and over and over back when the album came out in 93.
Love this song so much ! Rip Sean
Best jazz-fusion track from metal band!
Fantastic stuff. This is the first time I've heard any of Cynic's music for a long time and it's brilliant. Great to hear them playing music again.
i just bought this cd today from this used cd store. i had seen it before and new the name but not the music. once i came home and listened to them i could have kicked myself. it is so awesome!!!
if beethoven was alive today he be blasting this!!
Is this metal or jazz? Anyway, is fucking amazing!

Yes
This is a musical feast.
RIP both Seans. I need a hi-hat stack.
love you
No band should play on stage unless they become this good, Cynic is another higher level.
wooW!" lo mejoR!",, me encanta.... arriba Cynic, ojala y tenga la oportunidad de verlos en vivo... saludoS!" (=o)
masterpiece

4:08 Guy on the right is starting to get it.
This song rules and i loved how they showed the entire bass solo! very rare for festival footage/any music dvd really?!
Best bass solo in metal ever.
Safabox nah.original bass solo by malone is 1000times better
Cosmic sea is simple yet soooooo good
A favourite
4:06 - that was so funny!!
"I can't drink beer to this."
veryyyy veryyy talented \m/
im hypnotized !!!
the crowd is probably in awe, i know i would be
Cynic rules ! :)
i didnt really like this song at first but now it blows my mind

Fucking amazing
Death, Atheist, and Cynic.
Nothing can beat them.
absolutely
laughed so hard at his facial expression then saw your comment and laughed even more
Sean Reinert is an awsome drummer !!
Dude, we totally just saw them together yesterday haha
Totally agree.
Coming from you thats a compliment
That error in the left channel, really screws up the intro for me.
***** haha forgot about this, i meant the right channel, my headphones at that time didn't have the left or right symbol for me too now. Anywho glad someone noticed :)
@Synequanon Between The Buried And Me used a fretless on their newest album The Great Misdirect as well
everyone I recommend you guys do LSD close your eyes and play this whole album. you will have the best trip of your life!

Awesome brotha
You want to see some real magic take a few tabs of acid and smoke some dmt at the peak while listening to any of their songs
If you had only ever listened to pop music and then heard Cynic, I think you would feel like you were on acid...
Paul is such a badass
fuckin' awesome... just
He's recording with them still, announced he was going to be on the next album in December 2012.
That Specter is DOPE
@darkvampireshinigami it is with fretless bass, but chris kringels bass has lines on it
RIP Sean Rienert
@BoundByBodom Man, I think Cynic sound waaaay better live than in the studio. The bass and drums become much livelier... would love to see Cynic put out a live album.
my fav song from Focus
@effigyoftheslamz He has rolland MIDI synethized pick ups on / in it as well to give it that awesome tone so the stock pick ups really arent that evident.
yup, agree, even if i'm completely ignorant in sound engineering issues
Such a shame Mr. Malone doesn't play with them any more. Such a genius.
eargasm.
I don't know who the fuck is Simon, but damn he's a lucky guy.
I keep repeating that part in 1:38 it's so damn beautiful. You can it's a Holdsworth influence
IMO i would buy them both when possible. Each offer something different, so it's hard to say.
0:42
@effigyoftheslamz pauls guitar is a stienberger chris's bass is a spector. not sure on david senescu's guitar though
incredible playing...feel like a dumbass for never having heard of these guys until recently. killer stuff.
@StoneColdSoul07 i get what you mean unlike most peopleout there, but looking at it that way, i think noneof their songs are "made" specifically for live shows
Death is my favorite of the 3, but i have some albums from them all
@N0QU4RTER if you just discovered them you should check out their demos. it's an insane contrast to Focus
Amazing Song! If you like that you should also check Counter-World Experience from germany...
The bass player is a fuckin BEAST!
@andrewizz
Both. And yes. It certainly is.
@Mastafly7 I agree.
Regardless, this is brilliant.
genius
@Drakodan It's Chris Kringel haha.
wow!! amazing...simply cynic
@OpethCommodore It's 100% Chris Kringel.
fucking hell, cool!
You need to hear the original version, if metal is your sole focus. The whole album, actually. Good call on their writing and musicianship.
agreed.
cool bassist..
a este homs.. lo parió un bajo!!!! :D
there were mosh pits before there were breakdowns. a mosh pit is physical, you have fun, and you show the band you're amped.
🤫😶😔🤘🏻🖖
1.18 ftw
@undeadbrood I think its a jackson
And the guy at 0:48 is Robin, the former bassist of the band?
I was told if i like Meshuggah, check out Cynic~ Nice band, nice, original sound, i like the bass breakdown in the middle there.. still was 9/4 for the majority, and as far as complication, its comparable to Tool's Jambi- 9/4 (mostly)w/ez patterns.. or old Candiria. WebsterA did you find anything yet? Haha
@J3R1N427i Except it's not a Warwick, tis a Spector Legend.
Cynic rules!!!
That guy at 01:19 on the right reminds me of Rob Zombie.
yea your right after listening to the album one its a little better however this solo is still pretty badass
He's Guthrie Govan; secret fan of Cynic and he's hiding
his on-stage antics are odd. he squats all low and does a really weird and slow head twirl. a lot. it was awesome.
haha, 4:08 "camera.." *turns head* "oh hey! I'm on TV!"
At 4:07 two beers is better than no beers
Lmao, I love how both of the top rated comments are about the guy at 1:17...
Who is the guitar player with the blue Jackson Rhoads?
yeah it kinda does
R. I. P. Sean Reinhard.
This sounds exactly like the studio version
you are so fucking right, if any of those comparisons where actually mad, that tells me that emo's are taking over, thus making all metal heads stupid.. or something to that effect...
the guy at 4:11 looks like karl sanders, hahaha, and he was holding 2 beers!
hahahaha! Cynic sure had a hell of a mosh pit when i saw them last april
4:05 watch out for water!
man at 4:06 is the only understanding man
i am. :)
