That is one hell of a performance........The entire group did not hold back on the passion of the song.....And the sound engineer deserves a mention too.
Maynard definitely isn't the prettiest guy out there, and he's walking around like he's near hypothermic, hunched over like he's just shit himself, and acting like he's fresh out of the asylum, but he can sing his ass off.
Christopher Nichols I love Maynard, and Tool, and APC, And puscifer, Maynard is a fucking legend, my original comment was just a joke on his on stage act which most people can't comprehend.

He was inside a black duffle bag. The band started to play and he unzipped himself from inside the duffle bag and emerged dressed like a preacher and was holding a bible. I believe they opened with 46 and 2.

I saw MJK live for the first time in 2003, I was 18 years old. That was with A perfect circle in Strasbourg @ Laiterie. I did not care too much about APC's music, I was totally mesmerized by Tool....MJK's vocal performance on the APC tracks were identical to the studio recording. He never left the darkness of the back of the stage, on which he stood on a sort of podium with weird glowing runes, he never went into the light, only his voice mattered. I left the gig litterally feeling like I just had a beer with jesus christ. Coolest feeling ever, very unique to be THAT impressed by someone's stage aura. Never happened again (I had an actual beer with Lenny kravitz, cool dude, but nothing ethereal like MJK). I regularly come back to listening to Tool, never gets old, always impresses me, always makes me reflect about hidden meaning in their songs. From Switzerland with Love!
He is so emotionally connected to the lyrics, the feeling, to allowing those brilliant waves of bass guitar and percussion completely wash over him. The guitar squeals perfectly. It is chilling, absolute 100% dedication to the moment, every moment nothing but the moment. Being in The moment the way people say to do it, but Maynard shows us how to do it. This video rattles my cage every time and it rips an entirely different, but equally intense, often brand new unknown emotion from me without fail. I only watch it alone and try to clear my mind like it's the first time. Even if I'm wrong and he is thinking about hid shopping list for dinner or if that's his favorite onesie, it doesn't matter, because that emotion ride is what really good music does when you let yourself take it. I hate to overlook the entire bands brilliance and dedication to that performance too! Cuz they are all involved.
1:55 it’s that 1000 yard stare…. No one can do it like Maynard can. I have seen this video at least 100 plus times over the years. I have also seen him perform this exact same song about a year before this to a club with about 50 or 60 people in it. I wasn’t there, God I wish, but you can actually find that video as well , on UA-cam. Even though there’s probably 50,000 people in this crowd the stare he goes into is the exact same as he did a year earlier to the room of only 50 people. It’s incredible…It’s almost like you’re the only one in the room with him no matter how many people are there.
I saw them about 2 months before this on Lollapalooza's second stage. I was 16 and was my first show.... Tool, Rage, Primus, Alice in Chains. An experience I will never forget.
Michael Foster what if i get goosebumps from the studio version, and i appreciate the performance, but i don't get goosebumps from it? It's very interesting and fascinating to look at, but it's just not what i get goosebumps from. Am i lame in your book and you are still superior to me?
I completely agree! At first, I was thinking what the hell is happening here? After watching again and seeing that there was something going on in his eyes that I couldn't explain, I realized how hard it must be to replicate these emotions on a nightly basis.
0:37 - 0:40 The emotions I feel from Maynard looking utterly possessed and lost in the delirium and desperation of the character he’s portraying, makes this one of my favorite moments ever on a stage performance. He murdered it.
