Don't get me wrong, Cynic is my religion but like, they were kinda just fusing Alan Holdsworth with the sort of things Paul played as a touring guitarist for Death.
Holy Shit, this is awesome. I've been a fan of Cynic ever since i looked into Human from Death, and this... my God. I can't wait for Cynic's new album.
I love how they didn't just play the the studio version at the end. This concert seems to have been played before the album came out, so there is a chance that this part was still under works, but I like to think that (perhaps taking advantage of the fact that this song hasn't been heard before) they chose to go this full-on feel-of-the-moment-improv way. That's what live experience us for, that's real musicianship - so inspiring!
O.o how does masvidal play that guitar part and sing at the same time?!?! i find it hard enough to attempt to play the guitar bit, but he sings on top of that? holy crap. awesome.
When I'm listening to Cynic, inevitably I still go back to this version of Evolutionary Sleeper and listen to it multiple times. I really prefer this to the album version. Slightly faster pace, drums still going when the second verse starts, bridge at 2:59 just sounds fuller to me. I also love it that there's no growl. Better (to my ears) phrasing for the guitar solo. I don't know, I would just have loved it to hear this version on the album, which is still an awesome song.
Just amazing, the new album is amazing, they´re just so blooded musicians and this music is so full of heart. just can´t imagine how much they have to love the music
Wow, I can't believe Cynic is coming back! I hadn't heard about all this until last night, probably because I was too excited about the news I got about Atheist writing new material.
@ArtOfStealth Its different when you hear a song for the first time though..you don't know what to expect...they are focusing on what is happening...the crowd got into it a little more when they played Focus at this concert
I love my mosh pits just as much as the next guy, but if I went to a Cynic concert, I'd be more than happy to just chill out and listen to the music :P
That would be a Steinberger headless guitar that Paul said he got into in the early 90s because of the unique sound and the jazz influences who used them.
i have no idea what tours you're talking about, but the reason it would be logical for them to tour with Meshuggah is because they are NOT "jam type music" jam type music is like...the grateful dead, and Phish. I've most commonly heard them referred to as "technical death metal", which seems pretty fitting in my opinion.
watched this in 2007, watching it again in 2022. Timeless!
Actually it's 2023
Hell Yeah 2023!!! 🎉
2024

-here's my hand
-his hand
RIP Sean Reinert. Best jazz metal drummer in human history. Cynic rules.
Cynic is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Probably my favorite band ever
yes!
RIP Sean Reinert
and RIP Sean Malone...
@@agrippafonnettesheim couldnt even process SR passing and now we have to cope with SM's as well... fuck 2020
🕊️
One hundred years from, people are going to look back and realize how awesome these guys were and how they were a hundred years ahead of their time.
Don't get me wrong, Cynic is my religion but like, they were kinda just fusing Alan Holdsworth with the sort of things Paul played as a touring guitarist for Death.
Paul Masvidal must have an IQ of 300 to be able to play lightning fast jazz fusion chord changes and sing at the same time. My head would explode.
try it on slow bpm, and thrn you will feel the subdivision
its easy to practice
Not inly that, the singing parts are really difficult to pull off
its actually a lot easier than it looks/sounds
Not to downplay his genuis but muscle memory is a hell of a drug.
I find his new age stuff hilarious but I still love the guy and he's a great musician.
how the hell can he play that crazy shit while being so godamn relaxed ? thats crazy!
The absolute madlad
And singing!!!!
The power of weed.
Being relaxed is the only way to play hard stuff
I think he does a lot of acid
R.I.P Sean!
Ho is Sean , how he died?~_~
Pedro Henrique Hola! Sean was the drummer of this band.
Sean...... s
Both Seans in one year...
Holy Shit, this is awesome.
I've been a fan of Cynic ever since i looked into Human from Death, and this... my God.
I can't wait for Cynic's new album.
This band is so ahead of their time... CYNIC!
Paul Masvidal (Guitar/Vocals) and Sean Reinert (Drums) were both in Death for the recording an resulting tour for the Human album.
The Drums on this song...god...
Sean Reinert back in January and now Sean Malone has passed away at the age of 50. Less than a year apart..
O.o how does masvidal play that guitar part and sing at the same time?!?! i find it hard enough to attempt to play the guitar bit, but he sings on top of that? holy crap. awesome.
That solo... damn, he's an alien.
8 years later :(
*cuts off ears and lends him*
lmao
Jake Gyllenhall fuckin shreds, man.
That's funny I thought he kinda looked like Keanu Reeves too.
i prefer this version, it's a bit faster and longer, in this song i prefer the vocoder effect, it's makes the song more exciting
I think I'm going to have to agree with you..I love this version..
Estoy de acuerdo. Chula versión.
When I'm listening to Cynic, inevitably I still go back to this version of Evolutionary Sleeper and listen to it multiple times. I really prefer this to the album version. Megadeth fans : How Dave can sing and play such complex riff at the same time.
Paul : Hold my vocoder.
Godamn i love that hippy.

Nothing short of excellence.
Wow if I was at that show and I listened for the first time at this track my mind would have been blown.

Eargasm at the drumming at the start
Damn... this is do damn good on every level.
Bass here is way better than on the album:D Great performance
Just amazing, the new album is amazing, they´re just so blooded musicians and this music is so full of heart. just can´t imagine how much they have to love the music
this is still my favorite version of this song. it has an energy about it that the album version lacks.
Amazing just amazing
Absolutely awesome.

Giants, and Paul Masvidal is certainly one of the best guitarist in the world !
HOLY JEBUS! Cynic is back together? I am SOOO happy to see this video. they sound better than ever and cant wait to get their stuff into my hands
Actually, no. It's a TC Helicon VoiceLive, set for Pitch Correction ("autotune"), an octave up harmony, and an octave down harmony.
I remember watching this in 2007 when it came out
sounds like a much more sophisticated form of metal a mix of everything not to mention his voice just so different
amazing guitar tone....
great song, awesome chorus as well, very melodic
Amazing such a great song
Great performance
Amazing solo.
Such a fucking masterpiece. It's great to have you guys back!
Impresionant.
riposa in pace Sean

Wow, I can't believe Cynic is coming back!
I hadn't heard about all this until last night, probably because I was too excited about the news I got about Atheist writing new material.

3:00 - 5:54, Better than the studio version.
this band is amazing its sad though that a lot of people havent heard of them and that this only has 43 thousand views
Wow! The triumphant return! Can't believe how well they translate live.

Yep, he was in the album Human and toured with them for a while.
Fucking GODS.
Reinert, you are not fucking allowed that much talent in one man.
Absolutely shameless.
great technical band !
I love my mosh pits just as much as the next guy, but if I went to a Cynic concert, I'd be more than happy to just chill out and listen to the music :P
he is just a hippie that was born in the wrong decade
nah hes an evolutionary sleeper
Not the wrong decade for digital distortion.

Damn. Listen when high.
I love you man.
Listening to this song for the first time and when it was 1:53 my reaction was FUUUUCK ITS AMAZING!
The crowd is kinda meh.
This song however, is amazing.
Looks like Paul holds the 'e' string with his ring finger & pinky for support while soloing...im glad..i thought i was the only one :D
That would be a Steinberger headless guitar that Paul said he got into in the early 90s because of the unique sound and the jazz influences who used them.
thanks! :)
Best. Demo. EVER.
I saw these guys open for Meshuggah a decade ago. Wish i could have seem them again

you can never fuck up his timing =))
@Bikerboi13 hell yea i'm seeing them jan 25th in cleveland. i'm so fucking excited for this show
i have no idea what tours you're talking about, but the reason it would be logical for them to tour with Meshuggah is because they are NOT "jam type music"
jam type music is like...the grateful dead, and Phish. I've most commonly heard them referred to as "technical death metal", which seems pretty fitting in my opinion.

It's really cool
