Return through the spectator areas of a selection of race winners from the 1960s to modern day, including Ferrari 250, Ford GTs, Porsche 917s, Porsche 956s and 962s, the Mazda 787B, the Audi prototypes R8-18, Bentley Speed 8, and the Toyota TS050 and GR010. Also featuring previous race winning drivers including Jacky Ickx, Tom Kristensen, Dindo Capello, and probably a few others I didn't recognize.
that rotary idle is unmistakeable
Will always be one of the coolest cars ever made.
787B 🧡💚 DOPE 🔥🔥🔥
The Mazda making people jump at 3:40 😂
Definitely almost got me too 😅
that Mazda 787B! lol rattled some teeth
And startled some folks too. Loved the jump from the person closest to it 😅
the great Porsches, game changers in pretty much every series they ran back in the days
787b, Audi R8 and Bentley Speed 8 my favs
Porsche 917k,Jaguar XJR-9, Mazda 787B (that rotary engine is insane) Porsche 911 GT1 and the Bentley Speed 8 are the jewels of the crown for me👑 ✨
V12 LMR ? 962C ? MS670 ?
ford gt 40, porche 917 and the legendary 787b are my favourites
Wow! So much legends all at once! Fabulous!
Happy memories of sering the Mazda win back in the day, it sounded fantastic.
A new era now, the Caddies sounded wonderful as did the camaro, next years hotel already booked, ACO membership renewed.
787B gang!
1:54 And the gods came down from Olympus
truely
Wow, priceless!
2:52 おにぎり主張激しい!(褒め言葉)
So cool, but I wish it went back further in years...but the beauty of LeMans is the diversity. Even rare factory teams can win.
The did go back further, I just couldn't get through the crowd to start filming in time. Mea culpa
Its cylinder capacity is 2.6, but in fact this measurement is considered only in a single turn on the crankshaft axis. He still has 2 more sides to explode. It's like a 2 stroke engine. In short; The Mazda 787B's 2.6-liter rotary engine is actually an 8-liter engine. After all, the rotary engine has more consecutive explosions compared to conventional engines.
That was the beauty of Group C,...Run what ever engine you like but this is all the fuel you can have !
Capacity is based off 'swept volume' and has nothing to do with number of combustion events. They don't do that with 2 stroke piston engines, so why do that with a rotary?
However, I think what you are getting at is 'what would be the equivalent' in a 4 stroke piston engine, which I fully agree is a valid question that must be considered based off the way a rotary works. Although calling it an '8L' doesn't make a lot of sense. I presume you just simplistically multpied by 3 and rounded up from 7.8 because a rotor has 3 sides?
From a motorsport perspective, a more common 'conversion factor' for an NA rotary was to use a 'times 2' and 'equivalence factor' and not the 'times 3' you appear to be using. Of course, that means a 5.2L 'equivalent' in many forms of motorsport. Which fits in quite well with the 7L NA Jag and 5LTT C11 from that era when comparing performance. It actually makes more sense than x3 based off the way a rotary works. Yes, a rotor has 3 sides which you rightly pointed out, but don't forget that rotor is only spinning at 1/3 the speed of the eccentric/output shaft. You were correct, though, in that it is more like a 2 stroke when you look at combustion events.
Just like a single piston 2 stroke, a single rotor has one combustion event per eccentric shaft revolution (remember rotor 'revs' vs eccentric shaft 'revs'), compared to of course 1 every 2 revolutions of a 4 stroke piston engine. Which means only twice the combustion events compared to a 4 stroke piston engine and not the 3 you appear to be implying. That's why saying it's more like a 5.2L 4 stroke makes more sense than the '8L' times 3 you're using. We don't multiply a 2 stroke by 3 when comparing!
Either way, the physical swept volume, ie 'capacity' of the engine, is still only 2.6L no matter how you want to look at it, even though it's 'equivalence' may be more.
@@westboundbadger the funny thing is that the 787B had the best fuel economy of the Group C cars that year, (I know, crazy for a rotary) and is one of the reasons why the Jag couldn't chase it down, even before the C11 floundered. The #55 car could 'run flat' out for the entire race (which was the tactic for that specific car, they decided to go 'all out') and not run out of its fuel allocation. Whereas the massive 7L Jag had to conserve its fuel for fear of running out.
@@devilsadvocate2548 Made the most incredible sound too !
Supra lovers , when you come here you will see the true power
Wish they brought out the f1 gtr
There is one entered in the Le Mans Classic at the end of the month - drive by Yannick Dalmas no less, judging by the entry list.
@@lenslr yeah but they had the car at museum
@@antoniestrada1972 I'd hope they had some reason? But yeah, no idea. Would have been nice, I agree.
@@lenslr yeah like how are you gonna to bring on the bugatti bolide but not the f1
@@antoniestrada1972 Bugatti probably threw a huge amount of money at them. Haha
I’m he Mazda is just different 💀
Did I miss it or was the 919 Hybrid missing? O.o
It did not deign to put in an appearance, sadly. Although there was a static display model as one of the Sotheby's lots. They wouldn't let me film a walk-through and guide of the vehicles for sale in the tent.
@@lenslr That's unfortunate, it was the first interaction with WEC I ever had, so for me at least it's definitely the greatest car to ever race at Le Mans :D
@@EmoBirb send Porsche a tweet and express your disappointment, maybe they'll bring it out for the 100th running in a couple of years? I was hoping to see the R18 show up at Sebring this year, even as a display or something, for the tenth anniversary of Audi's last victory but no dice
@@EmoBirb Your best bet would be to try to make it to rensport reunion. Its on my list
a few are missing like the Mclaren F1 or the Peugeot 905
yeah, that's just what they paraded. They were in the museum and I highlight them in the video I did of the Centenary Exhibition, if that's more your speed
What do you thing of Glicks 6th and 7th position?
Given the depth of the field, they did slightly better than I expected. My (internal) prediction was for probably three factory Hypercar retirements or major issues that dropped them out of contention, although I was expecting them from Ferrari, Peugeot, and Porsche rather than how things actually turned out. Would have loved to see them do better still, but it was unlikely at best. My guess is they'll maybe do one more year and unless they can really put together some major improvements on the car, either this year or next year will be their last Le Mans, purely for economic reasons.
@@lenslrGlickenhaus is minted, don't worry, they'll be back. And good on em
