I can't believe they produced only one road legal car and Toyota is keeping it... I can't imagine how cool seeing this beast rolling around next to a camry would be
@footballcoreano a very bold accusation. However, the people above my comment admiring these Japanese cars aren't talking about performance, they are talking about the look of the car. It's very arrogant of you to assume that they aren't car guys because you yourself think that only performance matters in a car. Get out of here with that gatekeeping.
Damn, I cannot see the Toyota GT One with normal eyes anymore, my eyes would just turned down the graphics to Gran Turismo 2 everytime i see that beauty.
8:30 The 312 PB, what a glorious legend. The last Ferrari to win (no, DOMINATE) the WSC in 1972, and if it wasn't for Eng. Colombo (that took the place of Mauro Forghieri in 1973) that ruined it cornering capabilities with a longer wheelbase the majestic work of Forghieri whom created this masterpiece of prototype (along the V12 Matra and the Porsche 12-boxer, the most beautiful-sounding engine of all times...) it would have won also the 1973 Sportcars Champ. And we must NEVER forget the incredible effort of Arturo "Merza" at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1973, which finished 2nd for a matter of laps, and it would have won surely if it wasn't for the faulty gas tanks. BTW I must also say that it's a shame that none of the 1973s long-tailed 312s that raced at Monza, Spa and Le Mans exist today, since it was the most winning configuration of that year for the PB. If it wasn't for that, we would have seen one of these in this FOS clip, since the "short tail" never ran at Le Sarthe, it was only tested in August 1972 at LM along the long-tail sister, but the flat-12 wasn't still relaiable enough to withstand for 24 Hours, so the "Greatest Race in the World" that year never saw the Forghieri beast. The 1973 run to the glory was a close call, and Ferrari never ufficially returned again at Le Mans in the top class, after having cancelled the 1974 version of the prototype in favour of the F1 developement. Hopefully, in 2023 the things will change with the new Hypercar from Maranello... just let's cross the fingers toghether!
The entire field sees the D-Type and says, "If this were a beauty contest, we just lost!" Also, Porsche 917K, please. Also, props to the Doctor. Fast guys know how to go fast
The Matra makes a glorious noise... as does the Mazda... One of the consequences of modern advancements in engine efficiency we have lost this symphony in our current high level motorsports
That was So cool! I liked the old school Jag- D type, its a beautiful car...But then I was impressed w/the Mazda. What sound that car had! (... they were all neat! )
There's nothing that can beat the sound of a rotary in my opinion. Especially the 787B. Every time I hear that thing my heart rate goes up and adrenaline starts flowing. The car just sounds like it's constantly screaming at you to press down on the gas pedal more
For me the most spectacular prototype is the Toyota TS050 Hybrid which took pole position 3:14.791 at Le Mans. But of those cars in the video I vote the Mazda 787 B for noise.
The GTone line imposes respect because it sums up in itself the passion of the 24 hours of Le Mans. On the other hand, the engine of the car shown here seems to have a little problem.
While watching this video I had the subtitles on.... As the D type went up the hill, all it said was "Music".... I think that is a perfect description... :-)))
The sound of the Matra is incredible. But when they used that V12 in Formula 1 (the MS120) I think they must have been running it at far higher revs. The first time I saw (and especially heard) the car was in 1971 with Chris Amon at the wheel in the Daily Express Trophy at Silverstone. The Ferrari V12 had a shocking sound but the sound of the Matra was literally painful. It sounded like a mosquito, and everything vibrated. If you touched the newly erected catch fences around the track, your whole body started resonating. There are a couple of clips at UA-cam but I can only assume that they have detuned the engine, because it isn't revving anything like as high as it did back then.
I love that as I am watching this I type in IMSA GT.... and youtube immediately autofills GTO RX7. The algorithm is showing how many viewers are searching that after this video.
Did the GTOne need a gearbox change after the run? lol I remember when those were done crazy fast...then Audi just changed the rear clip. The ACO made that illegal as soon as the checkers fell.
Why didn't they show the BMW V12LMR or any 333 SP's? Those would be my "drive home" cars of the set, followed by the Bentley speed 8 (also not shown), or CLK-GTR ('98 V12, not the '99 V8 car) 🤷♂️
The V12 CLK GTR wasn’t a Le Mans car, it only raced in the 97-98 FIA GT championship before being replaced by the V8 LM version in 98. 99 was a totally different car, the CLR.
@@MicheleGardini I must have missed where this was Le Mans "winners only". I seen a Toyota Gt-one on the thumbnail and I threw caution to the wind. BUT If that's the case, we're missing the Audi R8s that pretty much dominated prototype racing in the early/mid '00s, from this set.
@@TheAmishSasquatch you missed "legendary". Ferrari won 9 Le Mans. You must have one in the pack, and it has to be a winner, a 250 TR or LM, not a looser like 333sp or 312pb. They left no legend at Le Mans. There is already an audi here, the R18, 4 times winner. R8 won 1 more, but they were both dominant. Alfa Romeo 8c and Peugeot would have been here. They're legends of Le Mans.
The GT-One (1999 version) had a problem (lots of smoke)... It should be better HERBERT or GACHOT or WEIDLER (or TERADA San... ) in the MAZDA 787B... 😉 Ferrari 312PB and Matra MS670B were fantastic racing cars with great sound like before... 👍💯🏁🏎️🤓

The Porsche 917 Langheck, without doubt!
