What's in a Name: Lola-Aston Martin B09/60 DBR1-2 - Fifteen Minute Guide

Whatever you want to call it, Aston was one of many great names that tried to take on the might of the Diesels in the late 2000s and early 2010s and couldn't make it work. But it did give us one of the most distinctive (and I think prettiest) closed-cockpit LMP1s of the era, with a name as cumbersome as the bodywork was lovely - the B09/60 or DBR1-2.

As we draw closer to the close of our Porsche Prototype story, we look at the last of the original breed before the quantum leap to the 917, the 908. This is arguably the Porsche most over-shadowed by the 917, due to the overlap in their competition histories, but it was a fine racer in its own right, with victories at the Targa Florio, Nurburgring, and Brands Hatch to its credit.

For example only in books I have seen some information about how exactly switch from bias ply treaded tire to radial slicks were in words of Henri Pescarolo. As such most of these cars were known as [insert manufacturer here] -Bristols. I was an avid IMSA fan back in the day when these DeKon Monzas came out. They served a purpose of encouraging greater participation of mid pack teams struggling to keep up with the Porsche customer cars that wealthy racers could buy their way into the front of the grid. The Monzas were fiberglass covered 7/8 scale short track NASCAR stock cars that could be aquired at a more reasonable price and wrenched on by competent stock car mechanics. The introduction doubled the size of the competitive end of the grid. Everybody knew they got an intentional advantage of having a big roaring 6 Liter V8 in a good handling small stock car. With all the big name drivers hired to codrive, the races were like mini IROC events, you didn't know who would win. The Porsches had their cars on one side of the paddock and the Chevys were on the other side, each shared parts and experience with their side. I miss the sound of a pack of Porsches tearing by followed by the roar of the V8 Monza pack blasting by on the straights. It was the best years of IMSA up to that point and it led to the epic GT era of the 935s and GTPs.

Monza's were rebodied Vegas same suspension same rear end . If you kept them out of the rust belt and dropped a v8 in them , they were wicked fast. < and YES i used the stock rear end and guess what . I NEVER had a rear end problem in all 3 of my old Vegas. also Monza's had a 350 v8 version not just the 4 cyl , also the only way to get rid of the oil consumption was to get rid of the motor so NO DeLorean fixed nothing. It was an experimental block made by Reynolds aluminum. it didn't have steel liners in the cylinders . No real r&d was done before production, and the motor was a complete failure. The Mustang 2 was a rebodied pinto and had the same or worse rust issue as the Vega. It also had a v8 version same as Monza But the car was an overall giant pile o crap. and between the pinto's exploding gas tank , and mustangs shit build quality Fords rep was not so great either. heck even the 240z had rust issues and the Mazda was a gas hog and short engine life < but you could make them scream !

A lot of it comes from management and those people supporting right to work laws that ruin reputations on purpose, like billy having his dad in management making him not wanting to work like everyone else. The last thing a worker wants is the company to go under, so quit your union hating you slave cause you wanted to work for FREE, and that's not freedom. The road-going Monza would have been legendary had anyone other than General Motors built it. I owned two '77 Monzas, a 262-powered 4-speed car (with a nasty 406 swapped in), and the worst Monza sin of them all, the Monza Mirage. Even though it had a 305 under the hood, it was quite possibly the slowest car I ever owned, with 2.27 gears and a TH350, coupled with typical terrible 1970's build quality. I unloaded that Mirage with only 78K miles on it and never looked back at Monza ever again. Great Video. Walter C would have loved the comparisson to Elon. BTW "Baker Trucks" became Baker Material Handling and was purchased by Otis, United Tech, and finally German company Linde Corp closing shop in 1989. His wife's side of the family equally as interesting as the manufacturer of White Sewing Machine, White Motor Cars, and White Freightliner.

10:05: The "female" Inaltera with Lombardi and Beckers finished a very credible 11th also. They lost time apparently when an electrical short circuit left the car stranded at Mulsanne corner for some time around the 12th hour.

6:57: Factually incorrect. Matra did not "go bankrupt". The company decided to exit motorsport in December 1974 as they had achieved its goal set 10 years before of winning a Formula 1 world championship, a World Championship of Makes title and the 24 Hours Of LeMans ( 3 straight years). The parent company was also involved in the aerospace and defense industries. Sometime after 1974, the parent company's management decided to exit the road car business altogether to focus on its other businesses and sold it to Chrysler Europe, which apparently did go bankrupt in the late 1970s and was bought by the parent company of Peugeot.

@@lenslr I bought it as a track car with the motor fitted. It has a turbo transaxle and 5 stud turbo brake assemblies. It has the cookie cutter 8 inch wide wheels that actually look better on it than a 911. It has a fiberglass bonnet bulge. The Lexus/Toyota motor actually fits in quite easily as the original 4 was a slanted motor. It has a bit of a clearance tap on the firewall. Still a few things to get it back together. The dash on the 924 is cardboard so I am rebuilding that. The motor is standard but should be plenty quick enough. About 400 kilos lighter than the lardy 928.
