World's Fastest Camera Drone Vs F1 Car (ft. Max Verstappen)

- Опубліковано 26 лют 2024
- This is Formula 1 like you’ve never seen it before. The @dutchdronegods follow Max Verstappen’s brand new @redbullracing RB20 F1 car for a full lap of Silverstone’s Grand Prix Circuit. The world first uninterrupted FPV one shot was captured by a manually piloted custom built drone, designed specifically for the challenge of keeping up with the car at speeds of over 300kph.
It took Red Bull and the Dutch Drone Gods over a year to create a drone that can accelerate two times faster than an F1 car, reaching 300 km/h in just 4 seconds with a top speed of over 350 km/h. The development was accelerated by access to know-how and processes of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, a high-performance engineering arm of Oracle Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team and trialled behind the RB8 and RB19 cars driven by @liamlawson30 and David Coulthard.

Seeing the aerodynamics of the car on the track, no render, no smoke simulation, but actual water showing the path of the air around the car, on the actual track is insane it looks so freckling cool
This along with the loss of traction and recovery from the wet conditions. You cant see that from car cams. What a great way to showcase how insane a spectacle F1 really is.
yea, the mist kicked up by the car in the rain showing the flow of the aerodyynamics was so cool.

To the editors: Showing off bits and bobs of the flight in crappy quality was a genius way to really cause an impact for the final flight. I loved it!
The lower quality footage with the telemetry is the real-time video seen by the pilot, can't really go for filming quality on the operation critical feed
I think the drone has two cameras, the poor quality one is a live feed to the pilot’s headset, and the other camera records in HD and is saved to storage.
@@michaelchapman707 In the video, you could see people watching the HD video on the laptop, so you're probably right.
@@michaelchapman707 4k, this is a 4k video.
@@michaelchapman707 The following is my deduction from the video. The drone has 1 camera. The footage is transmitted live in low quality to the pilot but recorded in the drone in high quality. This explains why the footage has to be viewed after the race: they have to download it.

Red Bull.
F1 competitions would never be watched the same if they develop a live video stream of at least 720p from that kind of drone.
They "just" have to train an upscaler on the endless amounts of formula1 content, upscale the fpv footage and done.
@@ww-pw6di they could use a digital transmission system for the video feed like the one dji is using
I don’t give the producers enough credit to effectively use what they’re given.
The main problem is that if a drone crashes, the cars can hit it and you dont want to kiss a drone at 300kph
If one of the drones were to crash during race tho
The footage at 6:09 is something up until this point has only been a dream in reality. Only video games have ever emulated the sense of following along race cars going flatout around a circuit in that manner, and the fact this is real tech now is staggering.
"It's a shame with the rain"
Bro, it looks SICK! I loved the part where there was a tight corner and the drone overshot, then ended up getting a sort of side-by-side shot before the finish. The camerawork was definitely more ambitious towards the end. Never been a F1 fan, but this was just so cool and gave me a whole new appreciation for the sport.
I could see there being hundreds of these drones for use on multiple laps.
To watch an ongoing duel between 2 drivers in a f1 Race like this would be legendary 😄
Agreed - I think we just witnessed something that is new now but will be very common in the future.
Health a safety might have a say in it. Super fast missile drones are still missiles at the speed 😂
@@edlazor6698 also we can better understand how a driver pushes the car this way, what line they take, with the onboard cams it's not really that clear.

This changes F1 racing broadcasts. Everyone will want to do this now. I'm guessing racing teams will want to hire drone drivers, even if it's for analysis. Well done.
In pro cyclocross races tv drones are used already. Different speeds of course!

The wet lap was AMAZING actually, you could see the aerodynamics of the car, the clean air flow turn into turbulent... just perfect.
Not really turbulent - those are some pretty clean looking vortices.
This ^. Clean vortexes pretty much carry downforce generation in F1 cars.
It was just the water coming off the road from the tires, that’s not air your seeing.

yeah it would be amazing especially when overtaking opportunities!
Thats hard, needs live broadcasting, it can just do a full lap, human fault with such a drone can be dangerous.
@@martijnvkk well, obviously it can do a full lap, but yes, the reliability of it not crashing and putting drivers in danger is high. like the skiing world cup incident where drone nearly hit Hirscher, but that was 8 years ago.
They can do this if they automate it to follow a particular car@@martijnvkk
That's too risky to be done, FPV drones are not very reliable, if it crash on track, it'll become a dissaster very quickly.
7:35 - i was into all this for the first seven minutes cuz drones and F1 cars are cool, but that completely novel visual angle and how it conveys the speeds involved is mind blowing with no exaggeration. This was a real work of art and skill on everyone's part. How beautiful a thing. Thank you.

I would watch entire races ONLY in this camera view. You get a real sense of the speed and skill of the drivers. This is INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to see this in an actual race, watching overtakes, etc.
I would literally pay $50 for a "Drone Only" view of an F1 or Indy race --- this is a real game-changer for spectator sports
That will be awesome. They probably be limited in where they can fly, though. Having drones potentially falling out of the sky onto the track could be disastrous during a race.
Same. Battery might be an issue, but heck, if they can provide this kind of footage with like 30 backup drones and charge 50 dollars for the drone view for a race I'd gladly pay. As long as we can get enough viewers the cost shouldn't be a problem.
The problem is that they can’t broadcast the video live in high quality.
@@someone11112 You're looking at a prototype, though. A few years from now this thing will look like garbage compared to the newer versions. I would expect quality to improve quite dramatically, especially with the rapid improvements in AI upscaling technology.
Maybe in the future, they'll start introducing drone shots like this to F1. It would be so cool to see that with a bunch of drivers on the track
its pretty awsome that we have FPV drones that can keep up with these kinds of cars. the rain and the effect it gave looked pretty cool
The RB20 in the rain followed by this drone is the best illustration of aerodynamics I've ever seen. The way that car slices through a wall of air is a thing of beauty.

Bit risky. Dude loses control and someone in the crowd wears it.
Think about safety, a few kg Flying 300kmh on your head...
depending on the operator it should be safer than the cars to be honest. I say that from an FPV perspective (which is what brought me here) as opposed to an F1 perspective so I might be talking nonsense. Point is, a professionally operated drone of that size following the track poses little to no risk to spectators. The more commonly and currently used cinelifters are way more dangerous due to their weight and the power of their slicy bits@@bartoszpiacko9319

im actually glad you got a shot in the rain, might not be the fastest due to the wet track, but the micro corrections max was making, the amount of water being pushed out the way by the car, the overcast sky, it just looks absolutely epic seeing a machine do all of this in the weather
Oh yeah watching the minute adjustments on the front wheels and seeing the rear end step out ever so slightly from time-to-time.. I think it was some more engaging footage despite it not being "Max speed" :P

Imagine having something like this in F1.. these kinds of shots on a quali lap or in a 2 car battle would be sick
not sure they will be able to do such a thing cos of safety grounds...
Yeah, I know I'm a stick in the mud for saying this, but the issue would be if the drone failed and fell on the track, especially on or in the way of a car.

11:55 _Shame with the rain..._ No dude, the rain made it *EPIC!* Those little shockwave looking things off the back of the car.. so awesome!
Yeah suddenly turning from interesting to see to wow that has scientific value.
Also more of the back end slipping out in oversteer and Max controlling it like a boss. epic, epic shots
But the screwed up thing was the entire reason they gave for needing the Red Bull engineering team to make the drone better was completely wasted on account of the rain. Nearly any average driver is immensely faster on a dry track than the best driver in the world is on a wet track.
I ALSO THOUGHT THE SAME. IT WAS LIKE IN A MOVIE.
OMG.
I couldn't really get a great view, but I think it was a Kármán vortex street forming behind the car
Really interesting to watch and see what is possible with a drone.. seen it in use during a skiing downhill championship and it give a really great perspective
It's hard to imagine getting to this in just one year of work. I caught myself forgetting to breathe, that is some fantastic work.
11:15 That's an incredible bit of skill from the drone pilot!
I think it's crap.
There's obviously a sharp corner coming up, so you know the car is gonna break. Why not slow the drone down earlier???
If you can why not do it yourself bro instead of complaining@@TerrorTubbie666
@@TerrorTubbie666 Because that's the whole point of the shot
@@TerrorTubbie666I get you, but I think the dynamic in shot adds variability to the momentum of it all. All the turning and corners become a bit repetitive and then suddenly the unexpected shot occurs and you're sucked back in to the action. Notice how he then flies in close towards the side of the car to show a different perspective. I thought it was amazing, but I respect your opinion.
@@TerrorTubbie666the other guy respects your opinion but I don't
That is just utter brilliance what set of passionate people turns on the eureka moment of discovering new way of watching f1 in future
thank you 💪
Lovely seeing Lawson!!
This one drone showed us things we've all never seen. Watching the car through the rain, it looks like a fighter plane approach super sonic. The rain water follows the aero paths, and you can see the flow of air around the car. Simply remarkable footage, and would not be surprised to see this little company scooped up by RB or possibly F1 themselves. That footage is too good. EXCELLENT way to preview the tracks.
The rain actually made it really aesthetic with the water showing how the air flows around the car, and the video game like pov showed how hard it is to keep control of the car when the driver pushes it to its limits which you can kinda tell with onboard cameras but it's not nearly as obvious as seeing it from above. Really cool project.
was thinking exactly rthe same, and cant have hurt for the drone temperatures
Why did u copy top comment 💀
Stop copying other comments weirdo. Reported spam
bro just copying good comments to get likes because of verified
why does the drone operator in the drag race looks like a harkonen assassin from the movie Dune
That guy is something else man. The tail kicking out at 280 kmh and the smoothest recovery it’s almost unnoticeable
Thats probably because he is so used with huge oversteering cars and handling its tail anyways
Very hard with grippy wide tires
Cry me a river @@AmariLambo
@@lajsna9936 what?!
@@lajsna9936 tell me you know nothing about cars without telling me you know nothing about cars lol
Ill explain maybe children will be reading this, it’s harder with more grip because of the much greater intertia of the car when cornering at huge speeds and g forces, when traction finally goes it snaps like a light switch, it’s why f1 spins hard to recover yet rally with very low traction they are almost sliding every turn, vintage racing on skinny tires slides are very recoverable too (again lower traction)
That was one of the coolest videos of F1 I have ever seen.
This drone reminds me of the old "Thunderbirds are go" TV show with the puppets, and the way it takes off and then transitions into flight, feels just like the Thunderbird 1, with the way it launched from a pull vertical and then flew horizontal, this is so cool seeing that possiblity actually becoming real
This footage needs to win an award. As a RB fan, Max fan, and 20+ years in video, I actually got teary eyed at this masterpiece.
But could it keep up with The Stig?
some say the Stig is pretty fast… but all we know is, it’ll easily keep up 😉

"Jeremy clarkson voice" 😅😅
How is the Stig finding retirement?
Simply among the best drone footage Ive ever seen! I've been here a long time!
🤘☠✌
The high-resolution footage is very cool
I am following formula 1 for three decades now. My eyes teared up when I first saw that full lap of max in the rain. the sense of speed you get from that drone shot I just incredible - what a time to be alive as an f1 fan.
I'm right there with you. at age 61 and watching since child. this has to be the best view ever!!!!!

Transition from Dron view to record view was amazing.
Still the dry lap of Lawson look funnier due to closeups.
