      Here-here!.. (re: unboxing videos in general)
      And regarding "what's in the box", most user manuals (nowadays easily-downloadable PDF's from the manufacturers' sites) contain that, but... I guess that's too much work for some people, right? :P

    I took an old beat up worn behringer 4x12 and made it into something badass.
    I gutted out all the electronics and replaced the jack plate and board with a Marshall 1960 plate and board, and installed two slightly used Vintage30s and two slightly used G12t75s in the X pattern.
    Sounds fucking killer and gets plenty loud. Plus I can configure the cab in stereo and use either set of speakers for different sounds depending on what I'm going for at the time.
    That cab was very used and has alot of my band's history with it, so i call it the Guitar Cab from Hell.
    Gonna be comparing it to the new 6505 cab and an old 5150 cab in a few weeks for when i go to track guitars for my band. Should be alot of fun.

    Man your videos have been such a massive help and I sincerely want to thank you Glenn.
    I currently have a 2x12 with a V30 and a Creamback. I have the V30 with a Fredman set-up and an E906 on the Creamback. Those 3 mics are running to a Behringer Eurorack and I can blend as desired. I'm getting the best amp recordings in over 20 years of doing this. Your "Fredman Technique" video was the turning point.
    For anyone wondering, I had a new Behringer with the Onyx pres and the Invisible pres in the older Eurorack sound better. They're a little smoother and just seem to "breath" a bit more.

    I'm surprised to hear that you haven't recorded / mic'd many different speakers. I have tried tons of different speakers, and it has been really nice for tone mixing.
    Do you think you will ever try out different speakers for the fun of it?
    Not like the boring "A vs. B" videos because there are a ton of those, but just experimenting with different speakers to show people there is more out there than vintage 30's that can get great tones.

    perfect amp and mic/speaker blend for this tune. like this re-amp better than the original! (going by memory and first impressions of course). and i generally don't like the Invective. Are those brand new speakers already broken in? I don't hear any of the signature 'woof' of a non-broken in, brand new speaker. Creamback and Vintage 30 has been my favorite blend for about a year now! I also like to throw in some GT-12T 75 for a touch of sizzle on the highs sometimes too. (meaning i always record all three plus direct, but don't always use the 75's AND the Creambacks).

    Yeah, Sandisk is very well known among camera users for its unreliability. I've been intensively using a CL10 Kingston MicroSD in my dashcams since March 2015 and not only it never gave me any problems but also hasn't shown any signs of wear yet. I also have a Transcend Premium 400x XC card that I used for a while but it randomly stopped recording, so I stopped using it in the dashcams.

    Speaking of your cheap mixer method of blending cab mics...you should pick up the SSL six console and do a side by side comparison with a cheap mixer. Has a stripped down version of the infamous bus compressor strapped across the mains output. Maybe even strap an affordable stereo compressor across the mains output of the cheap mixer to sort of simulate the desired effect of the SSL, and or use the waves plug in version of the bus comp in post of your cheap mixer method. As much as I want to believe the SSL is going to be leagues beyond the cheaper options, I have a feeling the subtleties will be less apparent in the context of a mix, and thus not worth the price tag for the vast majority of us. In terms of SSL gear though, it is sub $2000. Can’t buy a 500 series module of the bus comp for that, much less the two preamps with eq and dynamics, and a plethora of I/O. That said, they did minimize and redesign the circuit of the bus comp for this mixer, so it likely won’t sound the same. Sincerely hoping I’m wrong about that.
    I hope life is treating you well, Glenn!

Found the speaker we liked for each mic, then narrowed each mic in, just like you showed us. All going into a cheap Yamaha MG8 blended into a Scarlett 2i2. Everything sounded great. Problem was, after tracking both out first tracks, we had to break it all down and set it all up for the next session. He noticed a small spot he wanted to punch in and fix. When we did, the tone was WAY different and noticeable. What is a solution to the problem outside of the obvious, leave it setup or don’t breakdown unless it’s 100%. Haha. Thanks for all information. @@skashalvarez3770 I'd recommend the much cheaper Palmer.
      How it helps is unfortunately not much. What I do in that situation is to simply reamp the whole track, or if I can get away with it, the section. You won't find "that tone" again, so it's better to just give everything the 'new' tone by reamping. Different guitar tones is often something I'd avoid like the plague, and even if your reamped tone is worse, it will be consistent.

    Flash memory - especially the ones with TLC and the newer QLC NAND cells - have a limited read-write cycle. If you want to minimize accidents with ageing flash cards, you should check their state from time to time. I don't know if memory cards have something similar to SMART, which is used on PC for that reason (I currently have a hard-drive with two bad sectors, I think I'll replace that with something bigger and newer once I get a job).

    I’ve often thought of replacing one of the V30’s in my Bogner oversized 2x12 with a Creamback. This kind of settles it for me. Only issue is playing out, I typically just have one speaker mic’d anyway. I believe the sensitivity on the Creamback is a cunt hair lower, so the V30 will be louder, but not a ton.

      Either measurements, or by using some reference tracks (songs) that you know the sound of really well.

      Bass low shelf is good if you got it right up against a wall or in a corner. There will be a bass boost then.

    This is a really awesome amp but it's not without its issues being a 1st Gen model.
    My big complaints from experience and what I've also seen other owners have.
    Pretty common to have to reseat or replace tubes within a month or two after buying. Once you do that no issues. At least for me. The led lights inside the amp burn out. Hasn't happened to me yet but I've seen a few people on a fb group have lights burn out.
    Hopefully Peavey will tweak a few of these issues. I have a feeling it's mainly due to the parts being out sourced from out of country.
    All and all a modern 5150 has been very needed and the pros out weigh thr cons, but I hope they do a few more versions and this amp stays in production.

      Just out of sheer curiosity, i wonder if they really drive the LEDs that hard that they crap out, or if it's just crappy LEDs, or if it's just some connector-contact issue.
      For the record, damn near all electronic components are from "out of country". Even the big manufacturers (thinking of Texas Instruments, Analog Devices etc) have fabs in the Far East, albeit not China (afaik), so...

    If you're the only guitar player in the band does having two cabs (loaded with different speakers) live on the stage help to make the sound "wider"?

    • @YeOldeFrancke
      @YeOldeFrancke 5 років тому +1

      If you don't play through different amps (or distortions at least), you'll more likely face some phase issues and thus cancellation, depending on the position of the listener. If the cab is miced, just go with mono. If not, it depends.

    • @khronscave
      @khronscave 5 років тому +1

      If there's no PA in use, it'll probably just bother / piss off your bandmates (depending how loud you turn them up though, of course).
      If you're going through a PA, there's arguably no point. Not much use in causing *even more* "stage spill" (imho).
      Kinda makes you question who you're playing for - yourself, or whoever decided to attend your gig... Consider the answer carefully ;)

    • @matthewjones8510
      @matthewjones8510 5 років тому +1

      Two mics, one cab, panned out, if ran through a PA will get you “wider” sound. Different speaker combinations will give you different frequency content to mix with, but will not widen the stereo image, as seems to be your desired effect. If you’re asking this question, you probably aren’t playing massive rooms yet, and I would strongly recommend against doubling the size of your rig. Sincerest apologies if I’ve assumed incorrectly.
      If you ignore this advice and decide to double down on cabinets, please position them symmetrically from audience perspective. Example, if one cabinet is on the stage left quarter mark and 10ft away from the downstage edge, the other one should be on the stage right quarter and 10ft away from the downstage edge.

      @@matthewjones8510 You're partially correct -
      Only few small festivals on open air, and small to mid-sized clubs (also few with top notch PA), nothing yet as massive as -lets say- a club cappable of taking on bands like Architects or Northlane
      We play a heavily downtuned, extended range material.
      I run a tube amp through a two notes torpedo C.A.B. M wit an IR direct to FOH, and as everyone in my band we're going straight line in - besides vocalists and drummer no one mics his instrument.
      ATM my cab is a 212 loaded with a pair of v30, typically on the right side of the stage - as monitoring isn't an issue (we have our own iem) I was just wandering - for the sake of public at the front row (or for the sake of smaller venues with P.A not capable of handling anything besides vocals and a kickdrum) - is a second cab on the other side of the stage, loaded with different speakers going to make any difference?
      I like the combination of a v30 and a creamback, hence this question in the first place ;)
      And sorry in advance for my english, it's not my first language ;)

    Once you break in the speakers, I hope you make an IR of this cab! Creambacks are my favorite speakers, and there aren’t any GOOD IRs for them (literally the only one in existence is the official Celestion one, and their IRs don’t respond AT ALL like a real cab would).

      Gutwrencher Krahl hey you should check out the 3 sigma audio Bill Kelliher friedman impulses. Since he was thinking about switching to helix, they came in and made exact impulses of his cabs from his personal collection. And his Friedman cab is the only one I know of that has creambacks. They’re the exact cabs used on the albums and those impulses are amazing. For ten bucks, you can’t beat em
