    Its already been stated in the comments, but you need to crank the post gain much higher than you had it, and make sure the master boost is on to de fizz this amp, it s much more open then.

    I personally love the amp. Knowing that the channel volume affects fizz is a tool once you are aware of it. The pine and v30/Creamback invective cab really makes it come alive. A lot of reviewers have had trouble dialing it. Oddly enough...for me is the easiest amp to dial that I own. People like different things. Cheers!

    The Peavey Invective is the best amplifier I’ve personally ever owned or played through besides the 6505. I sold my EVH 5150iii and a Mesa Recto 25 watt amplifier so that I could purchase a Peavey Invective, I got the amplifier here and learned so much about it. You’ve got to crank the post gain to if you want smoother tones and you can also back off of the post gain if you want more of a fizz sound, my dad has a Marshall 410 H that I also tried out before I made my purchase on the Peavey. I’ve had it for over a year now and this thing is amazing it has so many tones you can get out of it and it’s sturdy built! I play a lot of cleans and some blues as well as classic rock then I also play a lot of metal this amplifier covers all of that stuff every time I plug into the Invective it actually inspires me to play more best musical purchase I ever made. If you count all of the boosts on the channels it’s more like a six channel amplifier it’s beast of an amplifier I highly recommend anyone to give the amplifier a listen in person. Lots of low end as well

  • @VinnieRoofthooft

    A big thing with high wattage amps is how drastically the frequency response can change once you dial up the master volume. That’s where it poses a big issue for bedroom players where you have no choice but to keep the volume down, attenuators are a lifesaver if you want the full potential of a 100+ Watt amp at a low volume but it’s yet another cost. The PRS will exceed for bedroom playing because that’s ultimately what it’s been designed for as you can hear.
    The Peavey Invective 120 is not a bedroom amp, but an all in one tube amp solution for live playing (where you need a lot of volume, and the extra power will give you the headroom you need) and that’s really how it should be marketed more. However big heavy tube amps are not at all needed anymore for live situations, so I think they came out with this amp 5 years too late.
    Peavey in general is going downhill as a company seeing how more and more of their products are starting to be fully manufactured in China instead of USA, and components are being swapped out for cheaper ones for bigger profit margins at the cost of diminishing quality. Their mini heads are known to have severe overheating issues due to design flaws, which in current times is unacceptable. In 2021 where there’s so much better quality and affordable solutions for gear I would opt to avoid new Peavey products unless they get themselves sorted again. That PRS really seems like a thing of beauty and it’s on my bucket list. Thanks for the demo!

    Theres just so many things to dial in on the peavey. I dont know how long you got the amp for but it'd be interesting to see how you base a rig around it after you have had it for a while (like what pedals and IRs work best), as to dial in tone to your liking

I kept digging and dialing but it simply doesn't work for me, may it be my guitars, my IR, I don't know. If the starting point is not inspiring I know I usually won't find something that I'd be happy with. When I purchased the PRS, the sound was immediately inspiring and I started building with it, instead of trying to rectify something that's not my taste, I hope you get me!

    Dude, first and foremost, nice playing and great video. Here is what you need for the MT15, a Wampler Tumnus gently tweaked to personal settings. Of COURSE you need to CRANK a 120 watt tube amp to get the most from it. Under say, five, on the volume setting you are not pushing the power tubes. All of the tone is coming from the preamp at that point. The power of the amp REALLY tells you where you have to be on it to really hear it. On a 15 watt amp you need to be pushing 10 watts to REALLY have the voice of it coming through and at 120 watts you REALLY have to be upsetting your neighbors and sonically killing the squirrels outside to really get the most out of the amp as the amp was intended to be played.

    Part of the fizz issue on the crunch and lead channel is you have to mess with the master volume and adjust the the channel volume accordingly. The lower the master volume the more fizz.

    • @chrisdigiuseppe7717
      @chrisdigiuseppe7717 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah on a big amp like that you really need a power attenuator so you can crank the master volume. That is assuming you don't want to blow the walls off your house to get rid of the fizz :D

    • @81giorikas
      @81giorikas 2 роки тому +1

      Fizz is also part of the eq resistor/capacitor ratio of the master volume, the PI interaction etc...Easier way is to just put an eq in the loop but something really versatile. You would be surprised but guitar speakers roll off after 5-6 khz they don't make treble and fizz disappear completely. So, depending on what speakers you use (some are natural de-fizzers), type of eq, the fletcher munson curve doing its thing and the speaker magnet providing opposite current back to the power amp (stabilizing him, reducing gain and fizz, allowing the pressence and ressonance to work actually) all of these are a complex interaction.
      If you want to go completely nuts in low volume put a compressor, rack style in the loop. Again you would be surprised of how much it changes the amp, making it resemble what it is doing in hi volume. For hi gain amps that don't really use the power amp for distortion or keep the PI clean, eq and compressor can do wonders.

    As much as I love this amp overall, I get what you're saying about that fizzy sound. It just doesn't feel like it takes up enough space if that makes any sense. Guess it's something with the mids, which is really unfortunate because I've always thought the midrange of the EQ was supposed to be at the forefront of the genre/sound this amp is geared towards.
    I know Misha uses the Invective as a power amp for his Axe FX when he plays live, so the sound might be a bit more pleasant if it's hooked up to one of those. But honestly, it should sound good as a standalone thing and it's unfortunate that it's lacking there.

    If you want to bring down the fizz you need to turn the post gain up almost all the way and then use the Master volume to control the volume. It also helps to run the amp with the Master boost always on with the Master boost at about 1/4 volume on the back. All that being said, I owned this amp for over a year and never loved it. Thanks! Yes but keep in mind, if you're switching on/off the drive on the clean channel the difference in volume within than channel is also pretty apparent. I appreciate the extremely high headroom clean channel but it doesn't feel like it's in harmony with the rest of the amp. It may be irrelevant in most situations but it caught my ear since I always start demoing amps with their settings at a neutral setting, it's never been this obvious so far.

    Fellow gear heads, I have a question. If this is THE misha mansoor signature head, why does it sound fizzy and not so low mid focused? Periphery is all about the low mids right? But this amp sounds kind of dull in my opinion. I’m a huge peavey fan, and even I got disappointed by hearing this. Is this a misha/money exploit? “If i say it’s my sig head then all the kids will buy it?” Or is this honestly what he was envisioning when he came out with this head. It sounds 8/10 for my tastes, but i just wanted to have a discussion about it.

  • @kevinp_25
    @kevinp_25 3 роки тому +2

    You’re doing it wrong. Now, that’s not your fault because it takes a little research to understand how to kill the fizz. Peavey messed that up. Turn the post gain up to 3:00. Higher post gain = less fizz.
    Also I have no idea why people have this thing about an amp having to sound pretty much its best a noon. That’s a self imposed limitation. Dial it in a bit. Don’t be scared of extreme settings if need be.
    And yeah it’s fair to compare the MT15 to the Invective using a boost since the Invective has an onboard boost. Probably better to use the same outboard boost with both but it’s still fair the way you did it.
    I agree the Invective has too much gain. A lower gain tube helps. I had to do that with my Stealth 50w as well.
    Overall, good video. Maybe try it again with high post gain, low master. And again, you aren’t afraid to dial in the MT15, so don’t be afraid to dial in the Invective. 👍

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
      @MilianMalivukMusic  3 роки тому +1

      I see, unfortunately I had to send the amp back already now. I understand if you're saying that the "neutral" position of the knobs don't mean anything, but to me it's a testament whether the engineers paid attention to give you the most balanced tone overall with all settings at noon, then you can proceed from there and shape it to your taste. My PRS or for example that H&K Tubemeister I reviewed gave you hours of tones without even touching the EQ. It's more of a philosophical approach I guess.

    • @kevinp_25
      @kevinp_25 3 роки тому +1

      @@MilianMalivukMusic EQ at noon sounds pretty good as long as the post gain is high. But with lower post gain (even as “low” as noon) you need to dial back the presence and sometimes the treble a bit.
      It’s a shame Peavey built it that way or at least that they didn’t make that fact 100% clear to all the early reviewers because I think it’s caused a lot of people to struggle with that amp. The way the post gain works and the way the master boost works are two things about the invective that trip up a lot of people.
      No big deal. There are plenty of other great amps out there. :)

    I agree that both amps do sound completly different anyway... but for me the PRS bass is really flobby in some way. I actually really prefer the Peavey. I would have expected a clean cold tone from the peavey. A matter of taste both sound good huh.. :P

    I haven't watched the whole video (it's a little on the too long side for me), so maybe you did it, but about the fizziness, why don't you adjust the treble and presence ? That's why they're there ? Also I thought it sound extremely tight and agressive, very cool. You got some great tones out of it !

      I excuse the extended video, I got carried away talking here! About the fizz: fizz doesn't equal high end frequencies in general. The fizzyness comes from a rather small band of pronounced frequencies here, dialing down tone and presence resulted in a sound too dark for my taste.

    Firstly - run all 3 post gain channels WIDE OPEN. Run Master Boost at 5-6. Those 2 hints right there change the amp completely, and for the good.

  • @AlexH8280
    @AlexH8280 3 роки тому +3

    Amp power isn't necessarily about how loud you can crank it. Its about how little the power section distorts. Even at the same relatively not-loud volume, a 15 watt amp's power section is more saturated than a 100 watt amp. More power = more headroom. So yeah, you can definitely go louder with a 120 watt amp but that's really not the point.
    Anyway, in 2021 this amp like any amp is for someone who wants to play through real tubes and a real guitar speaker. That's about it. It might not be ideal for anything other than inspiration.

    I bought an Mt15 based on UA-cam videos and hated the feel, it was too mushy and sounded way better in recordings vs in the room. I sold my 6505 for it and missed the sound of the 6505. I even bought a precision drive for the mt 15 and the attack still wasn't as good as the 6505 with a boost.

    • @MilianMalivukMusic
