  • I'll be honest, djent isn't really my thing. I DO however like low tuned heavy riffs, so I'm not terribly far off. If you want massive amounts of heavy riffage on tap, then you owe it to yourself to check out one of these amplifiers! The Peavey Invective 120 is Misha Mansoor's signature amplifier, and it has a TON of features and covers a massive range of tones, in a relatively reasonable price band!

    I’ve had my Invective 120 or almost two years now, I’m very happy with the amplifier I feel like you get a lot for the money I’ve gigged with it and it allows me to cover anything from classic rock, funk, blues to metal love the amplifier! I highly recommend it my best musical investment it also feels very durable well built. Great video on it man🤘

    The Invective 120 is by far, hands down, the best amplifier I have ever owned. Possibly even the best amp that I have ever played, period. That is saying a lot as I have owned plenty of amps over the years due to the fact that my tastes are always changing and my interests tone-wise are all over the place. I think that researching, buying, selling, and trading gear is a constant process I am going through that I love just as much as actually playing guitar. I also love working on and modifying gear, whether it's guitars, amps, pedals, ANY of it. Electric guitar is just a part of my heart and soul and I love anything and everything that has anything to do with it. But THIS amplifier is the last one I have purchased or traded for in a long time when you consider how long an amp USUALLY stays in the music room. At this point the Invective has become THE amp, and I know that I will not sell it. I bought it brand new, along with the matching Invective 2x12 cab (the Invective is an amp that truly does sound its best when paired with its matching cab, whether its the 2x12 or 4x12, they just sound best through an Invective cab. In this case, it's not just some gimmick, it's an actual thing) and it has been worth EVERY penny that I spent and has never fallen short in any way EVER. I play guitar every single day, for at least a half an hour, most times alot more, and when I play I play CRANKED, even if I'm just practicing for a few mins. The Invective does EVERYTHING, and dialing in the sound you want is not difficult and does not take long, so you don't ever spend more time trying to find your sound than you do actually playing.

    I love the features on this amp. I have an older model -- the XXX, which has several features that are missing on their 6505 : master volume, 3 channels all with separate EQ, FX loop with send/return levels, tubes can be swapped out (e.g. replaced with EL34s).

    Just bought this amp a couple weeks ago....and its killer. There was a slight learning curve. I feel Pregain sounds best close to dimed on the high gain channels. The compared the boost to a maxon 808 and doesn't sound much different. I leave the boost and gate on at all times all close to noon. The key to this amp is keeping master volume at a lower manageable volume and control overall volume with the master boost(on the back)up at around 4 or 5. That works for me but sure there is still more to learn here.

    Those features should be standard on all amps these days. This is why modellers are gaining such a foot hold in the industry right now. The name of the game is versatility, and Misha knows that. He's and Axe FX dude. He designed a modern Peavey 5150 with everything you need for what ever gig you want. Throw a couple strymon pedals in the fx loop, connect the midi, and make a few presets..... Boom! You have a mostly tube signal path modeller. It's insane, and Misha hit it on the head. Hell, chuck an HX Stomp in the fx loop and use all 8 blocks for some crazy fx chains.. the sky is the limit with that set up.. as for the tones you dialed in for the mix, the invective was a bit warmer sounding then I like. The 5150 was a bit shrill. But they sounded good in the mix so fuck it.. great work dude. Always a joy to watch your videos.

    Those things are really sweet. Pretty much a modified 6505+. The boost is pretty cool, but pretty sure misha actually uses his horizon precision drive in front still. Anyway, it’s a sick amp for sure. That’s the only thing i hate about internet demos, is you can’t really ever duplicate the response and the in the room feel, and to me, the response is the biggest reason why Tube amps will always reign over something like a kemper, which are also pretty damn amazing.

    so, if I plug a couple Midi capable pedals in the loop and use their MIDI functions with the amp, would the footswitch be able to control those too?

    I was fortunate to hang out with Misha a few summers ago when he came to Motor City Guitar for a clinic. I think honestly to get the full effect of this amp you need an invective cab. Also an interesting thing is Misha didn’t use the built in boost as he preferred to use the Precision Drive which I tried it and it gives more control. Also the blackout pickups have a fizzy tone to it. Time to try some Fishman moderns. Lol.

With your gain set to 9 o clock like you had it on the lead channel, I have to set mine to 1 o clock to get the same amount. Hey man you make great riffs and these killer amps suit your style well.
    Invective is an amp that sounds very biting and mean. But the funny thing is many players still can't come up with mean sounding music with it. Hah!
    I was gonna get this but then I got into this cosmic black metal/astral black metal stuff and this thing is just whey too edgy and crispy.
    For it's use, I guess it just depends on the type of music. But when a person gets to a point where it doesn't matter what the amp is to make their metal, then they have truly come to their full realization.
    Some of the greatest metal and black metal albums were recorded on cheap solid state amps. It's all about how one dials it in.
    Mithras for example came up with their gems by using a mere sansamp! LOL

    The settings were dialed different between the amps, the 5150 certainly sounded brighter but I'm sure the Invective could have been dialed in to match. Both sound very convincing of the Peavey tone. If that's the metal you're after, these amps nail it naturally. Invective does sound really good and the features are certainly not overkill, all very useful

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I could have tried to match them, but I think the mid range fatness of the invective is what makes it different, so I wanted to dial in something to emphasize that without going overboard with it. I don't think you could dial the 5150 to match the invective on the other hand...

    in the mix it sounded way better than the 5150, with an IR loader it would be even better specs.

      See, I thought the exact opposite in this one. I thought the 5150 cut through much better and the Invective sounded a bit muffled or dampened. Still a great sounding amp. But compared to the 5150...The 5150 is probably in the top 3 of the finest sounding metal Amps of all time IMHO. This was such a good demo though. Great job Taylor!

      In general i find my invective to be tighter but also less bright then my 6505. I think he needed to hit the presence a bit more on the invective to give it more life. Not sure if he had them set the same on both amps but the invective in general needs the settings up a bit more to help brighten it up. I prefer my invective to my 6505 generally.

    Ridiculous amount of gain. You got that sound with the gain on 1.5 out of 10? I vaguely remember playing this in a store and being blown away by how much gain there was.

    I slightly prefered the brighter 5150 tone, but that could have been just an EQ thing. Very impressive amp.

    • @Cheshire_Cataclysm
      @Cheshire_Cataclysm 3 роки тому +1

      Definitely an EQ thing or minor differences in component tolerances. No two amps of the same model will sound identical side by side due to these variations. Invective is a 5150 with some modern features added on but the amp circuitry is the same.

      Weirdly, the invective has the sort of sound in the mix that you'd want in the room but should get lost a bit in the mix, but doesn't...if that makes sense. If that doesn't make sense then this wine must have gone straight to my ears.

    • @AdamManley7
      @AdamManley7 2 роки тому

      Try the modeler through a power amp into a real cabinet, that’ll let you feel the amp in the room power with a versatility of any modeled head you can think of without volume constraints on the gain settings

  • @tomtallic
    @tomtallic 3 роки тому +1

    Well some of these features are like on the hughes&kettner grandmeisters. Except those even have built in delay and modulation. And also the tone, if I had the money to buy a new amp, i wouldnt go with the h&k again, i just cant get it to my liking. But maybe thats just bc my lack of experience, skill or maybe guitar pickups or pedals, i have no clue...
    Edit: But I still think this design is the future for tube amps.

    I've been following your Channel for only about the last month and I like your content I love heavy metal and watching demos and learning new songs. But the title of the video insinuates that you don't like tube amps? So do you prefer solid state over tubes? Because man tube amps in my opinion and in most of the guitar community believe tube amps are superior to solid state now solid-state floor modelers like the helix, and all the new ones that just came out are impressive.

    • @TaylorDanley
      @TaylorDanley  3 роки тому +1

      No I actually really like tube amps. The point being that I've long said the convenience of modelers is better than having tubes. But this amp has so many features built in, it makes it harder to make that argument...
      At the end of the day though, I'd still rather use my axefx/powerstage which weighs 5 or 6 lbs, vs carry around this beast.
