Big tip I just learned, hold down on the d-pad to put your entire party into sneak mode, then left trigger and hit triangle to split your party up, position everyone into advantageous positions before initiating combat.
Accidentally discovered d-pad sneak and crept through the entire crypt until I accidentally discovered un-sneak. But left+triangle to split up and position, thank you so much, saves a ton of time and grief
I discovered sneak by accident when I very first started the game. One of the first things I did. And couldn't figure out how to unsneak lol...the triangle tip is awesome tho. My only complaint is how your companions can you look at you all weird based on how much they like you. They either like mean and bitchy like my sister in law. Or they stare at you in this goofy, weird way. Like the whole conversation is built around if they wanna have sex or not. . I guess what I mean is it's like everything isn't built around whether they like you or not. Everything is built around if they wanna have sex with you or not.
I just wish there were way many faces to choose from and letting us change all dimensions like mouth chin jaw etc to how we want it. Very bare bones character creator.
My son had been talking about the game and I grabbed it on an impulse purchase. Decided to RP as Conan The Barbarian. Wasn't expecting for the game to be so good. Got stuck a few times and realized that this doesnt play like any other game I've experienced. Got into a battle where a goblin kept on killing me on his second turn. Almost turned the game off. Then, I went through my attacks and realized I could throw him... Into his friends, that were standing by some barrels. I literally jumped out of my seat. Lol. Got stuck again in a quest and no matter what I chose I dialogue, it would prompt the same fight that I was too outnumbered to win. Tried everything in the book and right when I was about to turn my console off, remembered that I had shape shifted into different races to see what they looked like. Shape shifted and got an entirely different set of dialog options that allowed me to avoid it escalating into combat. I was floored. Saved and turned the damn game off. This is quite like nothing I've played before and despite the fact that I'm usually more "action" focused, I find myself actually listening to, engaging with and enjoying even the dialogue. Haven't forwarded/skipped any convos yet and I always skip through those. Means the writing, voice acting and game is engaging. Pleasantly surprised.
Agreed. Wasn't expecting it to hook me like it has. My turn based preferences are games like Xcom, so this was very much new for me. But man the lore and routes to take in the game are so engaging and well thought out. There's been a few times I have started to rage before taking a step back and really trying to figure out a way through. The game rewards more than just solely brawn, I really enjoy that. It's a good mix of turning my brain off to slash, or to actually think about things. I don't want it to end.
You can also hold R3 and it will highlight all items you can loot or interact with. It's a good way to check what's lootable in a room without having to stop moving. Then just hold X and loot whatever you want.
I found that first time around, just playing whatever class you are drawn too in terms of Class fantasy is the best way to go, rather than worrying too much about what is good, strong or easy. I played a Warlock as i loved the idea of being a Melee Spell-caster for a bit of flexibility. If you are new to DnD, no matter what you play you are likely to feel a bit lost/Overwhelmed to begin with, Best bet is to keep reading your tool-tips and take your time with the game. You can always start on Explorer difficulty to get used to the combat etc and change the difficulty at any time in the game.
I also think a good tip for players new to this sort of thing is, when it comes to playing the story, don't worry too much about always making 'optimal' choices through dialogue etc. Just play out the situations and let the story develop. Save fairly regularly just in case you do something that absolutely derails your intentions, but where possible, just make choices in the way you think feels right for your character and let the results play out and don't worry too much about what would have happened if you'd acted differently. That's what a second playthrough is for.
Great video. We definitely need MORE PS5 Videos. I kind of thought the big names would have jumped on it on the 2nd when early access was available but surprisingly there have been very few videos. I haven't played a DnD game since Neverwinter Nights. Loving BG3. Been playing since UK release at 5pm. Getting used to 5th edition rules, had no experience since 3rd. This game is so packed with content
About to dive into this game on PS5. I’m aware of basic D&D concepts but have never done a campaign, so have been both intrigued and daunted by the complexity of BG3. But you know I gotta try it! This video, and tips in the comments, are giving me hope. Thank you!
I'm a little frustrated with the UI and the lack of enough tutorials, but I know once I get the hang of it, it will go smoother. If I didn't know anything about 5th edition I would be screwed. I can tell it's going to be a good game, though.
I noticed a couple of glitches yesterday. I couldn't change the color of my character's lips( no big deal). The right trigger kept on switching the hold on feature to only toggle on. The sound stopped working several times. That's a new game for you, though.
This game is the definition of 10/10 for me. Loving multiplayer a lot, getting to play with my brother and role play during our adventure Is sooo much fun
Thanks for this video! Been playing on PC, went in completely blind but now a good 40 hours in with my Wizard! But still picked up some tips about those dice rolls you don't activate.
Aoife, you're a lifesaver. I had a bad experience with my first DnD sessions done online with 1 friend and others I didn't know. One of them took advantage of me not knowing anything about TTRPG's and made my experience a living hell, so I wasn't keen on doing anything further with DnD in general. But I kept seeing how good this game appeared to me and was scared that I would be overwhelmed by how much there is, but with this video you have helped me so much with so many little things I may not have picked up on and the nuances associated with how DnD works. Thank you for being an awesome person
Wow, that person was a prick. Most game groups (since the '80s) will be far more welcoming & will side against anyone who behaves that way, so don't let it put you off the tabletop side of things. There are also a lot of more rules-light TTRPGs that can provide for a more RP-focused experience or a more chilled out time where you seldom have to look anything up & can pick up the all the rules within a single session.
Took me a whole day to figuring out what i wanna play for early access on ps5. Ive never played a baldur's gate game before. So it definitely is overwhelming. My thing is with 4 companions and all these spells and just everything a new player is introduced to is alot to take in.
Just picked this up on PS5 after being a bit off put by the complexity of everything and especially doing it all on a controller 😢 I mostly prefer action based RPGs, and the only turned based games I've ever played are pokemon and FF7 lol. But after all the praise this has been getting I needed to check it out and I'm 3 hours into the game now (after two hours on the chatacter creation screen 😂) and I'm having a blast! I've watched a million videos on YT like this, still no idea what I'm doing lol but it's just so much fun exploring the world, talking to people, working out combat and seeing the story unfold. And it actually works so much better on controller than I expected! And in case anyone was was wondering why I got it on PS5 over PC, mostly so I can couch co-op with my gf and because my 2070 seems to be struggling these days.
I don't know anything about Dungeons and Dragons.. This game is very overwhelming but I love it so far. I have only ever played hack and slash style. Which I recall the older Baldur's Gate being one I think.
I've never played both D&D and BG...however I've recently bought this game after much of the talk about it and after watching this video I gotta say I'm very excited. I also appreciate all the help and insight from the video, so thank you!
Im so happy that i found you 🥺. Im not good at combat and well...gaming. i bought PlayStation because of hogwarts legacy and baldurs Gate seemed fun so i bought it and started the game but because im very new to gaming and game has so many options its hard at first... Guys from what ive seen do fast commentary and i got some hate for asking questions... You know, guys like "girl, go home, this is for big guys" type of bllsht. So... Thank you ❤ this helped me to understand some mechanics, i will watch more because i really like the game so far ❤
Also, can u explain how to use spells etc to avoid the combat? And i have no idea how to steal things so noone gets mad but maybe i should do some spells? Have no idea...
@@agjaunel A high Charisma bonus (and always applying Guidance's +1d4 to rolls) will probably help more than anything in avoiding combat. Some stuff just wants you dead no matter what, but Charisma means you can talk your way out of other situations. High Perception should let you detect enemies earlier too. For stealing, just wait until people aren't looking at you & you should be okay (I think the item outline stops being red or something when people aren't looking). High Dexterity also helps with Sleight Of Hand checks if you want to pickpocket people. As for spells, there are so many.. Focus on the above attributes first & then check through the spell tooltips to see what might be useful, but I think you could find Detect Thoughts handy, maybe Minor Illusion if you want to distract an enemy that's blocking your path, umm.. I dunno. Oh, and if you're trying to avoid getting into fights, always use the Hide action when you're moving around. Your party should crouch and become harder to detect.
@@nightcatarts great tips! Thank you! I will test it, so far it was hard to avoid combat but since game doesnt show the level of side mission and enemies... or i dont see that info, i try to avoid conflicts
@@agjaunel Oh, I forgot about the Charm Person spell; that's one you can cast outside of combat to attempt to talk your way out of it, or in combat to avoid the target attacking the spellcaster.

It’s worth learning. I’m now actually playing tabletop DnD because of this game. I’m a believer that no game deserves a 10/10. There is ALWAYS something that can be improved. But this is as close as it gets.
I know it's a bit of a big ask, but can you discuss what you thought of the character development, the story, the beats you found interesting, your pet peeves- basically just gushing/ranting with guests mayhaps? That said though, I know this game asks a lot of time from its players, so maybe gathering people from O|X or Dicebreaker (or Johnneh) to discuss stuff may take a while.
I guess before you start you should ask yourself, am i going to play a build or am i going to a character? That question in itself will determine the next dozens of hours you drop into the game. The next question would be am I playing d&d, a video game, or both? If its D&D don't save scum. If its a video game, prepare to save a lot and try different ways. Both, save a lot and save scum as little as possible. Oh btw you can jump easier if you just hit up on the D-pad instead of going into the action wheel.
What a coincidence, I just started my first playthrough and the character I created was a female Drow Bard that plays the lyre~😅 I also failed at getting the brain creature out of that skull!🤣🤣🤣 The last D&D game I played was BG1, which was over 20 years ago. (Diablo 2 happened after that, which is why I didn't play BG2)
Never played this series but did start on a few D&D games for the Switch. I’m excited for this one: been watching it for a while. Great tips also your accent makes me trust you a bit more lol❤️😌
I have 3 hours in (with character creation), first time D&D first time Baldur's gate, basically virgin, and damn it's overwhelming, I fucking can't wait to get good at this, it's frightening but the feeling is amazing.
I like to get an idea for a character what they do and act and then proceed to play like taht like my gnome is a loner and over dramatic because of the gnome meme
Im still a little lost and i think its just the class i chose - not the rogue but the one similar, i really dont have much to work with. The inventory system definitely needs a rework for console, its such a pain going through, but otherwise the freedom is great
Just started playing yesterday on ps5! How do you feel about Karmic Dice if you’re a new player. I want to end up turning the setting off, but being brand new I’m leaving it on for now.
From a D&D DM standpoint karmic dice basically states you are less likely to fall into a terrible rolling spree. This in turn now applies for the bad guys too. Sometimes you aren't able to do the thing you're hoping for and that's okay as your fate is decided by dice.
Hi, great video. Can you expalin all the symbols in the action/bonus action with the numbers near it means (for example 1d6 or "Applies: Charmed 'symbol' 10 Turns(s)" in Charm Person)? How do you choose what character to control when exploring? Probably a dumb questions, but how do you know if an attack is requires a saving throw?

Once you hit level two and go to the level up option to level your starting class. hit square. That’ll let you add a second class (or a third class later if you want) if you end up not liking your choices you can talk to Whithers in the camp after you finish the first dungeon on the beach where the minflayer ship crashed. He’ll let you change for 100 gold
Ok first go at doing a beginners guide video. I wouldn’t sweat the negative comments. As you do more you will get better. Stuff like jumping ahead and going back. Over time you will get better at not doing that. It can be annoying for a person who is just wanting to get an idea of what they are in for. But again. The more of these you do you will get better. Screw the people in comments saying rude shit like “I could get better Info from the instruction manual that came with the game disc”. See they try to be funny because we all know it doesn’t have a physical version. Plus we all know game manuals went out long ago. I wish they would come back though lol. Anyways. I started playing a few days ago and felt so lost and overwhelmed and this video just explained so many things to me, thank you so much!
This video didn't explain a God damn thing helpful for us PS5 PLAYERS.
Start of game is basically tutorial my friend 🙂 you'll get the hang of it dw.
No shame to Google for a solution, especially about game mechanics!
I really struggle with some of the font sizes.
@zanite8650 you can enlarge them in the options. I bumped them up a notch myself.
I’m so sorry your first experience was so bad, but glad you’re open to sticking with it because it can be so worth it!
As a totally new player, this was really helpful! Thanks a lot 😊
This game has the most beautiful character creation i have ever seen
It's pretty good. There's some things they could have let you alter but other than that it's great.
125 different hair colors! Truly amazing! Lol
Try out Pathfinder: Path Of The Righteous, too. Very similar, including the rules. Excellent.
My final verdict is that your hair is a 10/10. :)
I don't know anything about Dungeons and Dragons.. This game is very overwhelming but I love it so far. I have only ever played hack and slash style. Which I recall the older Baldur's Gate being one I think.
Yes the first two Baldur's Gate games were more like Diablo.
Turn base fights are a new world to me it feels kinda slow but still fun
Thank you so very much for this starter's guide. You really answered a lot of questions!
I'm glad I found your channel. It's been years since I played a turn-based game, and haven't played anything D&D in a long long time. This video has helped. Gonna check out your other BG3 vids 👍
A group of bards that’s sounds so fun like we’re gonna rock out till we win
Okay so Baldurs Gate 3 maybe my first dnd kind of game. Actually I could be lying and I just don’t remember. Anyways, thanks for posting this video because I played, stopped, looked up info to make sure I know what I’m doing. Only to see your video if commentary & feel like okay I’m doing things right especially when it comes to combat! Thank you so much!
16:53 is too perfect when you start saying “here” and the game seemingly mocks you. 🤣
Pls make another ps5 video they are reaallyyy helpful ❤
I'm worried I won't like this type of game as never played them.... But reviews are soooo good it's hard to ignore.
Wish there was a timed demo or on ea play 10 hour trial type thing 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Honestly i all can say is try it out and see how you like it man. 3 or 4 years ago i didn’t really like these types of rpgs either until i came across divinity original sin 2 (there last game) and had a blast. Now i enjoy playing these games
Same
If you like RPGs you should like this.
One of the usual vloggers who likes its own voice.
DnD is so confusing to me. Liking BG3 so far, but the DnD elements/rules are a steep learning curve for me.
It’s worth learning. I’m now actually playing tabletop DnD because of this game. I’m a believer that no game deserves a 10/10. There is ALWAYS something that can be improved. But this is as close as it gets.
Great video thanks for the tips ❤❤😍 I just started it on ps5 playing at as druid
I'm playing as a druid, it's an awesome class, totally in love with it! So versatile, together with the team we figure out everything!
@@janeway73 yeah 👍 it's a good class
Been waiting to play this since it came out on pc never played dnd but I loved divinity
Finally sum one on ps5 love ur voice
Just finishing up Act VI of Diablo IV, then I'm jumping in. I'm sure this will be useful. 👍
this games makes me want a whole bunch of dnd universe games cus i’m still customizing
There are other d and d games this is the only one that has done it right.
@@barcster2003 Naw, the Neverwinter Nights games are also excellent.
Love that watching natural 6 somehow brought me here lol
Had to get it after watching..will be switching between this and Starfield! Great video and great time to be a gamer.
Awesome video. Just bought it an got lost, Never had chance to play DnD so really appreciate this game Great stuff thanks for vid 😊
Aoife that was really good to watch. I loved that first skill check reaction x.
Never played this series but did start on a few D&D games for the Switch. I’m excited for this one: been watching it for a while.
Great tips also your accent makes me trust you a bit more lol❤️😌
If your sound bugs set output to Linear PCM, 3D audio off
I have been a die hard Xbox fan my entire life but I’m feeling the urge to buy a ps5 just for this game.
The PS5 Slim! Value comes from unexpected places. ❤🎉
Thank you , I am getting it on PS5 soon , good to see how it looks and plays 😊
So last week, i downloaded it for the Xbox .I played a few hrs, but I feel i need to restart with a new player after this video 😊
I have 3 hours in (with character creation), first time D&D first time Baldur's gate, basically virgin, and damn it's overwhelming, I fucking can't wait to get good at this, it's frightening but the feeling is amazing.
🤖 Spellcasting to combat, this guide's got it all! Who else feels like a BG3 wizard already? 🧙♂✨
Just started with my bro. Appreciate the vid
I like to get an idea for a character what they do and act and then proceed to play like taht like my gnome is a loner and over dramatic because of the gnome meme
Bard entertainer is my class when I buy bg3 in October
From everything I’ve seen crossplay isn’t available. Did they add it recently in one of the patches?
Not crossplay I think, but you can play on one platform, save, & pick up where you left off on another platform.
Ive done a little research and i think im starting as a moon druid.
Downloading game right now. This will be first game like this i have ever played. Been looking for any tips for past few days on her. Thanks
Can't help but constantly get my ass handed to me
Im still a little lost and i think its just the class i chose - not the rogue but the one similar, i really dont have much to work with.
I always thought I was a fan of rpgs but boy this game gives so much variety and actions hold so much weight I’m stressing out forreal 😂
Super helpful!
I had to preorder at friends last month as no internet I plan on taking back over to friends Tuesday after work and hopefully put in rest mode or do I need to go to account for download
Hopefully no problem once home as no internet
Newbie here but have read some of "The legend of Drizzt " books. Wasn't sure if this would be too much but going to give it a go.
Does ps5 supports keyboard mouse?
damn I didnt see this, also wanna know
I was wondering same thing. It is easier to play with keyboard and mouse
I don't think that's been confirmed yet, but they did say it'd have full feature parity with the PC version, so one would hope so..
It does not seem to
@@bordapatrol4930 Well, boo. Maybe by the time general release happens. After all, early access preorder players are beta testers.
I can’t decide what race I want my archer fighter should be. I can’t wait to knock people off bridges like Legolas and Disarming while immobilizing like Mustado from Final Fantasy Tactics!
Thoughts?
How do you play couch co op?
THIS! My husband and I bought it specifically to play together, and so far can’t find any options for couch coop, despite everything saying it would be available on PS5 at launch. Maybe on 6th…?
@@kaybraywarriner7431 On PC it's just pushing A (X on SP5?) on both gamepads. Worked fine.
Yeah all you need to do is go to multiplayer and then press X on the other controller that is signed in
@@shademurphy7188 Thank you - we did work it out on Sunday morning :) For some reason when we tried on Saturday it kept wanting to just switch the main controller over instead of add a new local player. We got it now. Loving the game :)
Can you pull the camera back or does it stay over the shoulder while exploring. I hope you can pull it back some because I hate that it’s so close and I understand why since ur moving them with analog sticks.
Why can’t I be more like Aoife
Is now the time to upgrade from PS4 to PS5? I haven't bothered yet, as most games also came out on the PS4 or Switch and I don't buy new games that often. But getting caught up in the hype around this one
Q: how do you multi class on ps5? Been trying to figure this out, thanks for the info.
It can't be coincidence that all of the races of the Oxventurers are available in BG3... right? 😂
I set the game to explore mode. I die every time ive played 4 hours as im writting this. Most of that time was in character creation 😂
Thanks 👍🏻
Why do I miss so much 😢
What difficulty were first time players having a good experience with thinking of balanced but dunno if I should say fuck it and do tactician
You can change it in-play from the main menu so you're not locked into that.
You gonna have a bad time on anything other than balanced or easy
Thankyou as im new to this ! Might need extra help as in for you to join my game & babysit me haha joken
Can i use mouse and keybord on this ps5 version?
Ok first go at doing a beginners guide video. I wouldn’t sweat the negative comments. As you do more you will get better. Stuff like jumping ahead and going back. Over time you will get better at not doing that. It can be annoying for a person who is just wanting to get an idea of what they are in for. But again. The more of these you do you will get better. Screw the people in comments saying rude shit like “I could get better Info from the instruction manual that came with the game disc”. See they try to be funny because we all know it doesn’t have a physical version. Plus we all know game manuals went out long ago. I wish they would come back though lol. Anyways. I’m gonna take the next 2 days to create a character and then lll venture into this world thank you
How do we access the digital art book and extra dice?
You should find it at the Larian site after logging in & linking your PS account to it.
i don't even have a PS5 but had to come listen to Aoife 😋
I'm still holding off getting this.
I love and rpg but never played a turn based.
I really just don't know!!
Can you like switch the camera to third person? I know you can do it on PC if you use a controller.
is there KBM support on ps5 for BG3?
i dont think so, kinda pissed about it really, controller is hard to use for me, but ill just have to get used to it...
Are the controls same with the controller settings on pc?
Ya, if you're using a DualSense controller anyway.
I love this game and these types of games in general, but I get caught up micro managing every little item... I have to keep moving or I'll lose interest eventually... at least that's what happen Divinity 2 lol
