- For fun, I go over the 96 4Runners original window sticker. The importance of a shop manual if you are a DIYer. We take a long awaited trip to Harbor Frieght Tools. Fun day.

I much prefer the analog tech and switches of the 90s over the touchscreen stuff.
Not to mention comfortable cloth seats and fluffy suspension
Great job 4runner Steve!
8:40 I love the smell of new things! New tools, bedsheets, new electronics, new wife/gf etc...
Ha.
I see you stepping up in the MC world, rung by rung...
I purchased that same come along winch to get a four wheeler up into the back of my truck. The four wheeler was for my son and it didn't run. With that winch alone I was able to get that 300+ pound four wheeler into my truck by myself with some ramps. Never would have been able to do it without that $30 purchase. Enjoy the restoration.
ah, we think alike.
I bought an RD400 Daytona Special, new off the showroom floor, in 1979.
Great memories. Have fun 👍
Right on!
Hey Steve
Be safe on that scooter..
No more Grom incidents.
Great video.
I try not to think of the Grom incident. Ha.
I love the smell of new tool unboxing in the morning, smells like victory! :) Keep up the vlog, enjoy them all!
Me too.
I have no idea about this topic but very informative. Hope you keep making content!
Cool motorcycle, looking forward to the videos!
I am certain that a good dream for Steve would be to wake up locked in Harbour freight.
Don't worry Steve mine is Bunnings the same deal. [ the simple things]
Steve, You just gave me an incentive to get my 1977 Kawasaki KZ1000 running. It was running when I parked it 5 years ago. I neglect to ride it cuz I got an 1987 1200 Honda Goldwing Aspencade. All the best on the new project.
I love the Kawi's of that era.
YES! Harbor Freight video! Haha
Oh. One of the HF fans. Who doesn't like HF?
@@XplorerSteveDIY haha yep!
Really love your 4runner! That's quite the price difference! Even if you take inflation into account. Looking forward to the new project!
Totally agree!
Thanks Steve. Keep em coming
You bet
You getting retirement blues so you need a project we called these street blasters for around town. Wing da-ding-ding-ding.
Love the smell and sound of a 2 stroke.
Nice video, Steve!
Awesome video Steve
R D that’s a great bike everyone wanted one back in the day
Me too.
@@XplorerSteveDIY Is it a midlife crisis DIY? Are used to have a Kawasaki boarded up to a 600 those were the good old days
@@alfonsocasillas7290 over 60 so I’m in the 4th quarter of life. The price was right and I wanted to try rebuild like I see people do on UA-cam.
@@XplorerSteveDIY All good I was trying to find it my old motorcycle or the style but prices have gone up on old motorcycles can’t wait to see you rebuilt
great video Steve!
Love the motorcycle.
The RD has a cult following to be sure. So much info out there.
Be careful on that RD400 when you get it running, they are rockets!
Yes. got to keep them above 4000 rpm to get the head rush..
Love those two strokes. I had a 1987 350 Banshee. I think it was a similar motor, except for the water cooled system 🤔. I remember how much I loved the way that thing sounded. I also had an 86 FJ1200 Street bike. Wasted a few Dunlops doing burnouts and wheelies. Pretty stupid now that I think back on it. Now my son and I like to putt around on our 125 TTRs. Much mellower and more enjoyable when you can think about what's happening around you. When I was young the goal was to see how badly I can scare myself............
Your videos are awesome. Just keep doing whatever interests YOURSELF the most.
Thank you
Love the sound and smell of the two stroke. Smell like a garage after riding but that is okay.
Good thing that guy saw that, and it was an easy fix. I guess if you go off road it's a good idea to inspect and tighten things up.
Yes. Yes it is.
Nice.👍
RD hype
Cool, that 4Runner is the same model year as my Xplorer. Yup, I finally realized my childhood dreams of owning a custom van and an antique vehicle. Not quite how I pictured it, LOL.
If you need any parts for your vintage stuff, get them now. Soon to be outlawed. My prediction.
@@XplorerSteveDIY So far, O'Reilly Auto Parts has had what I need for the engine and chassis, and reasonably priced, too. The Dodge dealer doesn't keep parts around for that vintage anymore. I pretty much made the decision that if I needed to replace any of the woodwork or interior fitment, I would template new wood from the the old panels, and use modern gear in place of vintage for appliances like the stove, refrigerator, toilet, electrical panel, etc. In fact, I need to replace the hot water heater, because it's packed up. I'm currently researching a decent energy and space efficient way of doing that. For the time being, I make what little hot water I use on the stove.
Thanks for sharing this video, Steve. Interesting!
You bet!
I’m so excited for this bike. Please keep us posted on everything you do to this Yamaha. Lo e your videos and keep them coming!
Thanks for the enthusiasm Bret. My channel is pretty diverse as it is. I may put this suggestion up for a vote. You will for sure get one more video on the RD. That will be my "assessment and intentions" on how to approach it.
Cool window sticker. I have a collection from my previous rides. The vehicle I should have kept was my 96 Jp Cherokee. 😩
Very cool
Nice video. I used to have a 1978 RD400 and have a basket case RZ350NC. (I blew a head gasket, took it apart, and never got it back together.) I see you have the aftermarket radial heads. I probably have a shop manual for both, somewhere. Had a lot of fun on those bikes, especially the RZ. You can get into a lot of trouble quickly on those bikes. Have fun and stay safe.
Very cool! I'd pay for the shop manual. Address in my "about" section of my channel.
Nice find, looks like its got a gold DG Head...
Good eye! it does.
Wow, you found an RD400! Those are getting pretty hard to come by.
Very!
It would be cool to see you convert to 4X4. I know someone who did it using salvage Toyota OEM parts for under $1k. Every thing is bolt in except you just need to shorten your driveline.
Naw. The opinion of many forums are, if you want a 4wd, sell your 2wd. buy a 4wd and fix it up. I would include in that- a V6 or V8 engine and locking diff, front and rear to my search list. At the end of the day, I never needed 4wd . But yeah, I get it.
@@XplorerSteveDIY thats a general statement but again for a 22re with manual, its a lot more straight forward and I thought you would like the challenge and some diy bragging rights. V6 swap with the 3.4L and lockers are also very doable. You can probably even swap in a TRD e locker instead of an ARB. Just my opinion. Do whatever you want and whatever makes you happy. Cheers 👍🏽
Do more camping and travel videos.
I do variety. We just had a few of those.
very nice steve, we have similar taste. ive got a white '96 3rd gen with a v6. but i also have a 1974 rd 250b. i couldn't believe it when you revealed what you got. i did not think of you as a street bike guy...... especially a two stroke street bike guy..... especially one with the letters rd {from yamaha, meaning race design i think}. folks in the 70's called the rd's rapid death because i guess a lot of guys looped them out. no helmet law back then so they would crack their head open on the pavement. that bike is a beaut, cant wait to see what you do with it. glad to see you posting more frequently lately, always have appreciated your content. freekin love that bike man, cant believe you got a bike with a cult following, so awesome. 2 questions, how did you come across it, and what motivated you to get it....were you always into street bikes, always into 2 strokes. jsut curious, thanks for the content brother.
Love the smell and sound of a 2 stroke. Over 60 so I remember these in high school. This one is in rough shape. been sitting for 20 years in the Vegas elements so everything is stuck and the rubber is dry rot. It is a project for sure. You're welcome.
@@XplorerSteveDIY
Right on steve. I'm approaching 52 in August, so I also grew up around two smokers. I currently have a Ducati 749s (4t of course), but also the rd 250b. And a 2010 ktm 300 xcw 2 stroke. Love them 2t's. Lookin forward to the rd videos especially, but all your content is pretty cool. Take it easy man.
No way, those bikes were really fast in their day. My buddy had an RD400, mine was an RD200. I remember you had to keep the rpm’s up to avoid fouling the spark plugs.
I think 78 was the last year to import 2 stroke.
The hard copy manuals are the best. I have electronic manuals from Mitchell1 and they are OK and searchable, but if I want to print for working on the car, it's clumsy
I like hard copy but E manuals work well, especially on an Ipad.
@@XplorerSteveDIY Where would I look for a electronic shop manual for my 1984 Buick Regal?
This was a good video, but it could use more footage from the driveway.
Next time
Yer gonna need a bigger shop, Steve.
I am moving out onto the back patio. ha.
@@XplorerSteveDIY hahahaha
I like motorcycles👮🏼♀️
So you’re going to renovate a 400 cc motorcycle, cool.
I am going to try for sure.
@@XplorerSteveDIY , So what year is it? How many miles does it have? What was the last time it was on the road? So many questions
@@MissMarinaCapri In time
New car prices are insane and they don't get any better mpg.
Used car prices are even more insane. Inflation man.
True, glad I'm not in the market for either.
