It's heartbreaking to hear a pregnant 12 year old child say that she was matried off for $9.00 and that her abuser would beat her if she did something bad.
Absolutely what’s even more heartbreaking is that they can’t go to school without money. These people like Michell Obama etc they should provide some free educational resources and anything that affects the family so that families wouldn’t need to put their child for marriage. Most families deep down wouldn’t allow their child to be married so young. Only a very few. Because of financial situation that leads to many families having to sacrifice their children so that they can be taken care of.
As was made clear it’s not legal in the nation nor the local goverence. It’s not marriage just because they say “they’re married now”. Marriage is a legal designation which requires compliance with that process.

As a self taught Genetic Genealogist is is heart-breaking, as well as upsetting to discover that many of my own famous ancestors married girls of 13 and 14, and today these same men would be classified as Paedophiles. So I wonder where and when and how over the centuries attitudes changed, as this same level education would help women global. Another problem is that even educated women are extremely anxious to even assert themselves for fear of what the consequences are as a result of their assertiveness. It is also interesting that despite being educated Obama and Clooney both willing took their husband's names on marriage, something that I never wanted to do, as I never wanted to give up part of my identity. Oliver Cromwell took his wife's name on marriage because she was of a higher social status.
I've long thought about this, I didn't change my name and it's surprising how uneducated many are, I was asked when I didn't change my name, "am I allowed to do that", loud Tut's or just plain anger that I was not following the flock. How can we educate others when we don't educate ourselves.
Let’s be real these situations can be easily resolved. Many talk about poverty or lack of money to be able to function properly. I guarantee that if the money or opportunities was there for families I’m 💯 confident that these practices will not take place because money solves problems. Most families will never put their child for marriage. No way because money is there. So let’s help these people to give opportunities so that they know they are not dependent on someone who marry someone such a young age. Also remember they can go to school with little worries as well.
The boys also need to be educated because they are involved and some of them are also forced to marry when very young. They are educating boys in Bangladesh about the complications of child marriage and the risks to girls lives. They also teach how marring off young boys helps keep them poor. So teenage boys are taking up for the rights of girls as well as themselves and they travel to different villages and educate those boys about child marriage.

They have no means to support a family but they have so many children. What the heck is wrong with these people? If you have no money, do not get married and have children. Using poverty as a reason to sell your children is absolutely disgusting.
The fact that more than 650 million young women are being sold as brides is nonsense. "Some parents insist their children are ready for marriage. " It is sad that even parents are selling their children for money. I hope they live with hope. I hope that this problem will be solved as soon as possible by contributing to the education of the society in which they live.
Its just so sad and disheartening that these kids have to be married off even before they are born and get beat for not knowing how to be a adult its sickening sick men marrying kids i jsut don't understand itthey say because of poverty but still be in poverty when married

I am hoping that this is not just a showcase but that some tangible help will be afforded these girls.espicially this 13yrs old mother of the little baby boy so that the cycle can be broken ❤
Child marriage: 'At 12, I was sold into marriage for $9' - BBC 100 Women, BBC World Service
For the case of Malawi portrayed by the BBC, the British Broadcasting Corporation, should have remined that Malawi was 'The British Central Africa Protectorate (BCA) was a British protectorate proclaimed in 1889 and ratified in 1891 that occupied the same area as present-day Malawi: it was renamed Nyasaland in 1907'.
We all are responsible of miseries.
Not only a need to control child marriage but also a need to control the birth rate…
how does this help? Im not challenging you, I just want to understand
Education in birth control and the birth control to be available. I see this as a huge step in a lot of starving 3rd world countries

If you can feed and raise well, you can take many kids. But poor families who are struggling taking many kids is pathetic.
No???
This is context of original poser's comment.
Why do you need extra explanations??
I want to cry
Praying hard & praying much this EVIL must stop, must BE Stopped. Hoping those in a strategic position would be mindful to care about this. We all agree on CHILDREN as vulnerable & necessitated thus to be CARED for - protected at all cost. Let us have real mercy.
And how mcuh effect have your prayers had??? NONE AT ALl. Prayer is a waste of time and a cop-out. Get off your kness and DO something useful instead.
Listen women! Please listen with your entire soul!
Wonderful initiatives for our girls
Thank you BBC and everyone involved 🙏🏾😊
Ironic that wealthy US women come to Malawi to “help” while child marriage is still legal in most states in their own country.
Only 13 states in the USA have banned underage marriages as of June 2024.
The mother must stop having lots of kids where are the fathers ? The nerve she has forcing her daughter to marry
Agree
No. It is also due to lack of education. Poverty and lack of education go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other.
Poverty and lack of education is a huge reason
Praying for the 12 yr old. I wish I can take her. She needs to be in school😢
Heartbreaking. Nine months pregnant at 12, cruel and sad😢
So sad and to see that this is my country its heartbreaking 😢😢
The boys also need to be educated because they are involved and some of them are also forced to marry when very young. They are educating boys in Bangladesh about the complications of child marriage and the risks to girls lives. They also teach how marring off young boys helps keep them poor. So teenage boys are taking up for the rights of girls as well as themselves and they travel to different villages and educate those boys about child marriage.
Govts are failing our people in AFRICA and that is the biggest problem on the continent
I would never ever allow that kind of stuff happen to my child. I rather eat dust than sell my daughter for money.
This is what we should invest in not war
The mother thought it was ideal for her child to marry to support them? How selfish.
This problem is every where especially in Asian countries why always in Africa, especially Malawi! Something is not right with these so called foundations since it involves bill gates family who is so obsessed with idea of depopulation ideology so my African brother's and sisters be careful with wolf who clothes themselves with sheep skin on surface yet inside they are wolf's with sharp tooth anyway may OUR ALMAYHTY GOD save his people AMEN.
You’re a great danger to human beings with your conspiracy theories!
😢😢😢😢so sad am 23 years but my dad can't allow me to have a boyfriend in Kenya it's illegal to get married before age 18 years
Are you serious?
Don't you know that child marriage is illegal in these countries too?
Problem is that leaders don't enforce such laws. They don't care people.
They have no means to support a family but they have so many children. What the heck is wrong with these people? If you have no money, do not get married and have children. Using poverty as a reason to sell your children is absolutely disgusting.
The fact that more than 650 million
young women are being sold as
brides is nonsense.
"Some parents
insist their children are ready for
marriage.
" It is sad that even
parents are selling their children for
money. I hope they live with hope. I
hope that this problem will be solved
as soon as possible by contributing
to the education of the society in
which they live.
A baby having a baby. That's so sad 💔🙏
Its just so sad and disheartening that these kids have to be married off even before they are born and get beat for not knowing how to be a adult its sickening sick men marrying kids i jsut don't understand itthey say because of poverty but still be in poverty when married
Don't trust Melina 👀
It's like a vicious circle that will continue until someone finally understands that prevention is better than cure.
I'm always curious why they do not focus on unmet need for contraception in these poor countries which would tackle so many problems.
True that 💯
But no one's that good in this world! 😭
I don’t care if it was $9 million….she should have never been married to anyone at age 12.
Child marriage is accepted in Norway. Many child brides that came with the Syrian refugees were given legal staus in Norway as married women.
Nonsens. Illegal to marry until 18.
At 12 I was still playing with dolls😢😢
Girls have the right to say its my life ill decide when im gonna marry and who im gonna marry ill decide it,my life my business,im gonna study now and ill get married later
Thank God for America!
40 states in America still have child marriages. No, America is backward in many ways...
Would there be anyway we could financially support Tamara to go back to school?
God save these poor souls 🙏🙏
How about addressing the food problem to avoid losing a life for $9?!!😮..Food Rations!..😕
Very sad i want to cry that girl is pregant and married wow for 9.00 what is. Wrong with her mom and dad they are crazy to let her get married at. 12. She is just a child shame on you mom and dad i dont know what your thinking cause you dont have money go get work support your family
The mom and dad died. The girl was sent off to her grandmother who had no way of supporting her.
So, no one have enough Commonsense to know this isn't right ? These parents need to be told that it is wrong ?
Why are they like this ??!
Generation after Generation, they haven't learned anything
I'm not against the documentary, but what happened to child safe guarding? Are they supposed to be masked for safe guarding purposes 😢😢😮.
Thank God being an tamil girl ❤️
Michelle Obama should be president
I agree
She should work on getting a law that prohibits underage age in the US. Only 13 states have banned such underage marriages. What a hypocrite.
Michelle Obama speaks about the limition of abortion as devaluation of women. My take is that we replaced the devaluation of women with the devaluation of children. We became a me society were chiare a burden not a joy, and we discarded them as trash. We treat sexsuality without respect. Anything goes, and abortion is seen as an easy way to get rid of its consequences
Let's not forget abortion is healthcare for women
It's none of your business.
She preaches the lie that abortion empowers women. She does not treat the mental health consequences of this practice. So any type of sexual behavior goes and the solution is to kill our own offspring. Makes no sense.
You know I see a lot of people in the comments section saying things you know like oh I wish I could save them they're too young etc etc but the real issue here is that these people struggle desperately for everything and it is more and means of desperation then it is a means of other issues, culturally is invested in these are all communities and cultures that have never been introduced to anything else and so they stick to the same cultural mindsets and it is a very very hard thing to come over you know and we all know that so
She’s just a baby still.
Still young he had NO BUSINESS hitting you!!!!!
The problem is that the people you bring as role model to these girls are unrelatable to them Michael , Amal and Melinda no nothing about life in Malawi or the cultural practices of this nation bring in people they can relate to like the first lady or something otherwise keep on barking no change 😶
Girls can say no im not getting wed at twelve, its my right to say no its my life its my right
Please Michelle shame to said I see my daughters and this teen’s u daughter’s they are the president of united state of America please 😡😡😡😡
Yes education education education!
MY FIRST LADY!!!
This is horrible!!!
Thats how it goes if they treat their daughters like a life stock to gain money and support...
Imagine if all these girls and young boys to complete
Higher education the benefit would be to Make Africa
Good woman!!
BBC World News graphics do not display on any of my computers. I have use other news sites and UA-cam to see graphics. BBC has become my last source for news. I am not alone
That's Crazy
Sad to say but you lost me at Michelle Obama. Many other Christian organizations who do the same work with accountability. It is worthwhile.
WTF is going on with this continent.
It is a global reality. Wise up, learn and think critically, engage in civic matters civilly.
Islam
More like European countries and later on the US, Russia, and China exploited the country and uts people for cheap labor and extracted minerals and others good s and ridiculous rates and bribed the authorities to look the other way or created political instability to create civil wars and armed conflict. All of this led to great injustices and Poverty. Child marriage is consequence of all of this.
Have you heard of Asia?
@@raymondparnell439it happened without islam, child marriage predates abrahamic religion 🤨
People with a stomach full wouldn't sell them
Slavery is not perpetuated by poverty. It is perpetuated because women and girls are not seen as people, but as property.
Children must not be extorted and placed impactful among financial assistance. Being treated as a ticket, coin, and profit, I left amongst their crimes. Opportunity is limited inside a child. Undisciplined spending, conditional award, and irresponsible leaders fear advanced refusals. Facing multiple fluctuations, resigned to inferior honor, an employer denies personal time. Jealous suits of casual preference greet critical insight, triage, and fear. Forcing my signature, renaming a child, and lying about paternity was their choice. Welcome fiance, consider your vow, your mother, sibling, and oversight still cycles false. Engineer, abandonment, and molestation is among a blocked view, command, and disobedience. Wasting my energy, giving him award, and denying my fertility, was a surgeon, closet, and assumption. Love is confused among hormonal benefits. Guess those dog wives are always funding cheaters. I never needed salute or valet to drive my patient to safe shelter, aside from your company's needs. Village hall, herd immunity, and national broadcast is documented in a Supreme Court appointment.
9 dollarsss??!!!! Whatttt
These people are speaking chichewa. I can't believe this sh***t is happening in Malawi😢
A certain profit married a six year old and set a bad example for all of us....
Absolutely appalling down right disgusting.
Sadly seems like in certain world third world countries with girls young girls are just considered a burden where you can put your daughter or sell her for $9 because you don't have any money your granddaughter and it's so sad that her grandmother had to do this because of poverty and she needed to eat too so in the young girl gets married to this man forcibly and he impregnates her and then he runs away I don't understand the runaway thing my husband asked me what was why did he run away and I said I don't know I don't understand it if anybody knows please could they put it in the comment section they were married so why run
Can these American people go to Afghanistan and do the same because girl are being sold at 7
