I struggle with this in my brain nearly everyday... like it’s actually harder to be nasty.. humans are maaaad. They go out there way to be complete wankers. They really get a high off of it.
Domestic work should be a registered profession in African countries. That way, the fundamental human rights of workers would be secured. Laws against physical and emotional abuse would be enforced. I’m grateful for documentaries and videos like this that exposes their harsh realities. I’m from Nigeria. Cases like this are so rampant especially in big cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. They go unnoticed; “see something, say nothing.”
Blake McKenzie trust me even unbothered professions, there is so so so much emotional abuse. People who have made it and are employers seem to stop being human when they have
My Question Is Too You Because I’m In America And I’m Pissed 😤. Why Aren’t Y’all Upset 😡 When You See The Abuse . See Something Say Nothing Wtf 🤷♀️. Y’all All Need To Be Ashamed 🙄
That is a good idea, but first, these countries need to establish and maintain a public education system that educates their populations to enter a viable economy, so that domestic, or farm work is not a default option for the majority of their population. Almost everyone that has the resources to gain education leaves, or runs an internet scam.
This is not about compensation or some kind of money steam its about profiling the problems of domestic workers.. Intact they should compensate BBC for put them on spotlight.

I took a trip to Nigeria and the maids and serving people were all very shocked at how kind I was to them. One even ask me "why are you so nice to us?" It almost brought me to tears because I had never even considered being rude to them why would anyone?
I think it is because they saw how some whites mistreat blacks outside and were surprised you were nice. Your kindness probably put them in shock and gave them a different perspective of life.
@invest for your future At least I am not saying hateful hurtful things to others like you are. Not everyone is a deceptive bad person. You judge too harshly of people you don't know.
Kind to them in their place, what a shock, I actually don't know why Caucasian feel even superior in another man territory...... One thing is to be welcomed in Africa countries another thing is to reciprocate it when we found ourselves in your place without being racist towards us
I love the statement, how can you mistreat a person that can poison you? We had maids growing up in Nigeria, and I swear my parents treated them like family. In fact they would gain weight, my parents paid for their education etc. This video made me cry, when the young girl met up with her grandmother again and they hugged. I hope these girls in the video are doing much better.
Exactly my mum educated all house girls we took in that wanted to be educated. One of them recently got married after 10 years or more after her being our maid, we attended her wedding. This video doesn’t show all sides and this side, is brutal and saddening

So domestic work is an everyday relaxation at an upscale beach resort??? In what world??? You need to lose your self righteous attitude because you can lose the jobs that you work at dear. Unless it belongs to you, then nothing is a lifetime guarantee...
Just because she's preparing the food doesn't mean they will allow her to eat it. That's especially cruel, imo, to have to prepare someone's meals but not be allowed even a bite. Its all about power. They have the power over the worker and it makes them feel better/more powerful. These people are obviously suffering inside themselves to be this cruel to innocent people just trying to make a living. Like that girl said at the end, "If I had money, wouldn't we be the same?" But generally people who have more think themselves better just because they have more. I guess it can be boiled down to that maybe they are scared that if they loose their money/power then they could end up the same way and no one wants to suffer just to live. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm just thinking out loud, really.
Am sorry father for constantly complaining about my life ... I can't imagine going through all this .cried watching this but why can't we just be kind on one another ...
I saw my mom treat house girls like family, we worked with them we even lived with their children, so I have no reason to treat anybodys daughter badly. I've learnt the best from my parents
Yeah me too! They were like family and stayed for years to a point where some even ended up getting married to some of our extended family. It hurts to see these girls go through this 😤😤😤
Just the way this woman is speaking explains how mean she is. I have met people like her before. "She thinks she deserves too much, etc ..." I'm ashamed of how some human beings are so so heartless
I feel thier sufferings.Way back in 2004,I became a house girl or domestic helper too here in my country(Philippines). Many of us treated as human,we had full benefits given by the employer .I thought,I could not change my future and will be a house girl forever but Thank God my employer is so kind, she sent me in school. While doing house chores at daytime,I go to school at night. My advice to all these women, please be brave and find ways to escape from poverty.Educate yourselves and know your rights as human and as an employee.Poverty is just temporary, our future is in our hands.

But that indeed does happen a lot you know? I've come across housemaids who've tried and sometimes succeed to "overthrow the government" in the home they're employed in.Some maids do indeed seduce the husbands of their women employer .
I have been saying this for years!!! If only we knew how similar we are, we would unite to fight poverty in Africa. I have lived in three different African countries and l can confirm that not only are our languages very similar , our way of life is also not far off.
Mercy's ex-employers are lying..the child was in your care and you cannot justify how she received those bruises...they have no proof they did not hurt her so they are guilty because she was in their custody when the abuse happened, thank God He set her free and hopefully no other girl agrees to work for those wicked people
She Hack I agree! She is crying now because she has been caught out. She needs to explain how she got those bruises and scratches. How wicked can she be? God will repay her for her wickedness! Nkt!
Here in America, we have our flaws as a nation but what I'm proud of is pur civil rights, they would've been sent to jail straight the moment she called the police with those neck scars or her busted head even marks from choking..straight to jail no hesitation...abusing someone's child...beat your own...
Of course, they're lying. If our African political leaders can be caught ready-handed with evidence of corruption and still deny, what do you expect this woman and her husband to say? The fact that they can't own up their mistakes, shows psychopathic behavior and are unwilling to change.
Don't be so sure so many employers have cried because of the helps yet they leave it to God . Am not going to judge between them, may God be the judge. Remember that man who was featured hawking and babysitting "his baby" only to be found it was not true. Oh Kenya, my mother land, who bewitched you.
C Me you are so right. Some people have no form of remorse. Someone’s child and if these girls had another choice they won’t be working like a slave in someone’s home. Growing up we had house helps but people can never tell if they were house helps or one of my mom’s kids. We were not allowed to call them maids in our house. To her, they are part of the family.
Hot tears rolled over my cheeks too when Scovia met with granny..it is so touching and i would love to help this girl even if it mean emotionally and spiritually supporting her..
It's not only in the Arab countries that housemaids are being maltreated, it's happens in many houses in Africa too. I wish these ladies all the best from Ghana 🇬🇭
The Lady who said I lost my temper and shouted but never hit her reminded me of my mother who said those same words when confronted about her hitting me

The woman lied she mistreated that young lady and getting away with it ,I hope the judge made the family pay something she didn’t get those marks on her by breathing,And the wealthy women always put their hands on the help.
I went through the same I was only 16 when I finished my k.c.p.e exam and my aunt chased me later I found someone who took me to mombasa I worked 4 years without anything she could not give me the money she was like your hair your clothes it's your salary I used so she can give you 500 end month,, you can imagine working for 2000 ,, wherever that woman is she will witness my blessings in Jesus name. The black woman in my life were my surrogate mothers because mine had to work. Most days Mom would leave at 7 return at 6 eat, then sit worming at the dining too table until after midnight for us to survive. It was our domestics who taught me respect, how to cleanup up after myself, who played with me. There were SOE who stole, lay around drunk, beat us and even forced us kids to do most of the work. Not all people are bad, but neither are a specific kind of person bad. These ladies taught me that if you want respect you must show respect.
It's better to say the life of a poor woman... in India Asia Africa ...its the same...these places women are not considered to be important and are treated as such... watch an Indian documentary you'd cry your eyes out... it's sad females must go through all these bulshit
Exactly, why would the girl make it up and ruin her chance to work and make money. The girl seemed too innocent in her spirit to bear false witness. Plus, where did those deep scratches on her neck come from? The couple seem more concerned about their reputations than anything else. What was really surprising them was the fact that the young lady who was poor had a voice that people were listening to in addition to holding the couple accountable for their wrongdoing.
Growing up my dad hired housekeepers. He made sure my little brother and I treated them with respect and courtesy. They were fairly paid and given huge tips for working around holidays. I can’t fathom mistreating someone who’s in your employment. It seems like some of these girls are being treated like property and not people and that’s tragic.
They indeed look like the assualting weapons, i m surprised how the mistress denies it yet Mercy s' scars can make a perferct fit with fake nails the madam is wearing
We will REAP what we SOW whether it's in Africa, America....That heifer actually has CLAWS.. My heart is sadden. We all should pray fervently to God for change. Love Peace and Kindness.
The proof in the pudding....them claws look like they could do some serious scratching...and what do they mean by she went to a wedding. The girl works for them...and they need to realize that she is free and should be able to have down time to do whatever she wants with it. All these people just love to be the slave drivers. And if they finish their service we give them millions with the hope they can start their own business. PLEASE do not judge an entire race from a 27:50 minute video. thank you.
In Zimbabwe the older generation always said life was better for them before independence. Younger people would want to lynch them for saying that but when I see the domestic abuse coming from black employers it highlights another side to the coin. We always had very good experiences with houseboys / gardenboys and their employment usually lasted for years - trustworthy, reliable, honest and very well meaning. Obviously it is a very unequal relationship of master and servant, but for an uneducated, never employed adult, it offers free and safe housing (usually on the property) , no bills, easy work, food, regular income and hopefully a happy respectful environment for them to work in with the employer. Our houseboys had relationships with all of the family, in different ways. I observed similar with most of my friends and their families. For some reason I think this domestic arrangement works better when there is a white employer and black employee. Obviously abuse happened but not on the scale that it is happening now, and especially when it is often now the female employer who is monstrous to her maid.

The paycheck at the end of the week was put in my name for the work i had put in. I then had to ride my bike to a bank to cash my check, and i then am the one who rode the bike to and from the store where I picked out the groceries. And I alone prepared and cooked the meal.. i am the one who put the food on the plate. Yes. It was house cats that scratched her neck.

That is a good idea, but first, these countries need to establish and maintain a public education system that educates their populations to enter a viable economy, so that domestic, or farm work is not a default option for the majority of their population. Almost everyone that has the resources to gain education leaves, or runs an internet scam.
Blake McKenzie I agree

I took a trip to Nigeria and the maids and serving people were all very shocked at how kind I was to them. One even ask me "why are you so nice to us?" It almost brought me to tears because I had never even considered being rude to them why would anyone?

I fail to understand this cruelty😒😒😒
And we talk about slavery and see Black people treating their workers like this. This is so sad.
Tonyagets Real I know right?🥺
It is not everyone that does that, my family has employed house helps both males and females who were suffering in poverty. Most of them steal from us or plan evil even though you are nice to them. We give them a place to sleep, three square meals, pay their school fees if they want to attend school, buy them clothes and toiletries, and also pay them money and still give their families money.
Very sad. And if you're not even allowed to leave then it might as well be slavery.
Not everyone does this!
This just makes me cry. The way they are treated. God bless them young Lady’s,
I cried when my sistah reunited with her grandma😢 I love my grandma with all of me she’s the one that taught me everything and once I get my book deal and get on top she will have the best while I take care of her😘 I love you grandma!!!

Wish you all the best, hope you can show to unfair world around you one day what you really made of! ❤️💐
Sometimes when you manage to get what to eat and where to sleep peacefully, you need to kneel down and thank the Lord. What we take for granted, other people see gold in it. Life is tough out there folks.
Amen
I used to do that.. but then i got to thinking that something is wrong with that idea... i was the one who made it all happen. I am the one who rode the bike to and back home from the place where i work, i am the one who swept and mopped or cleaned the toilet at my job, i am the one who sweat for 6-8 hours. And im thankful to some invisible man that ive been "taught" to believe existed for all the work i went thru to eat this meal? Yeah something is very wrong with that idea... for my life anyhow..
