Well, look what is common practice in Rajasthan: What's the maximum in one household that girls were killed, because they only allow boys to survive ... ? 😮
That’s pretty judgmental of you. Like I bet most of the parents just don’t know any better and they are just trying to give their kids the best life they can. I really don’t think they are acting with malice.
@@NunayahBuisness uhm... making your daughter MARRY SOMEONE at 7 years old. Isnt " giving them a better life " they sell them to the highest bidder for money for themselves
Brianna Vingless I never said it was the best life. I said it’s the life the parents themselves had and they think it’s the best thing they can do for their daughter. If your going to come at me at least use things I said. It’s hard to have a debate when I didn’t say the things I’m supposed to be defending.
Mebae Berhanu case in point. Your people kept slaves until 1930s but I’m not going to judge them for that cuz again that was a part of your culture (Ethiopian) . A bad part but a part nonetheless and it takes time to change beliefs from one generation to the next. I’m not advocating for it I’m just saying try to understand where these parents are coming from and why they are doing this. It’s not coming from a bad place. They are doing what they think is the best for their kids based on how they were raised. That’s all I’m saying. Again not advocating it.
I felt pity for Ismorah, I can see a child who lost her will. Her mother talks like she doesn't need to apologize or she has nothing to atone for because she didn't do anything bad.
It sounds like this is a learned trait, i don't think the mother should be blamed, it just sounds like this is a way of life to them, from generations to generations they have been brought up this way. Glad these younger ones are becoming more informed and standing up for their rights though
@@amaliacoria3063 Yeah, I think the mother is like - if i can live through it, so can my daughter. It's so sad. I think she thinks, long-term wise, it was better for Ismoarah to get married than hold a flame for some boy who liked her and would harrass her.
Do the parents not realize that doing this only adds to the poverty of their society? 14 year old girl gets married and has 2-4 babies and their husbands leave them and they are stuck to fend for themselves. This is part of the reason why they are in poverty is because they are already poor and then making more and more babies in a poor environment. They are just continuing the cycle of poverty, sadness, unhappy and unhealthy marriages and too many children. If they let their daughters go to school and get degrees this helps break the cycle and they can make money on their own. The more they are in school, the less babies they make, the smarter they become, the more chance they have at a good job and eventually having a happy marriage.
Sometimes traditions and crimes can make people really dumb, I mean what you said is so true, child marriage is a sin, but for something that has been done for many years suddenly was identified as wrong-doing is understandable but still I blame the guardians for not thinking straight, all they care about is money even for a short While all I can say is, BAN CHILD MARRIAGE, FREE ALL WOMEN AND WOMEN RIGHTS, ESTABLISH EQUALITY!!!!!
My great grandmother got married at the tender age of 9-10... My grandmother got married at the age of 21 And My mum at 26 after completing her masters in Geography... Am Proud of this change 🙂
bblizzyy part of the problem for them would be that they would have to admit that their own circumstances were also not as the ideal they sell to others...
It's a tradition if you not married in that age they would find problem in finding guy for her.this is how they basically think. They think they can live happily with a man at young age which is not true at all
bblizzyy because of tradition and it’s similar for countries like KSA too women have to endure abuse from a man who also has three other wives then their daughters go through the same thing
Child in your head (until you ask her age)... which they say in the video is 16 and 14 and the likes. If they hit puberty they have to understand they now have everything it takes to replicate themselves and give birth to others. If you encourage adolescents to live as children that will result in adults with adolescent mentality (possibly even childish mentality). An adult is not an adolescent, an adolescent is not a child.
John Villanueva If you think marrying off these children is okay, I hope you would be okay with a good 10% increase on taxes to take care of teen moms in public housing. I’m sure you would love that, right? Paying more. Because we know now that kids that age cannot take care of kids ADEQUATELY or give them a good quality of life without sacrificing their own.
it's a very real problem that is occurring everywhere in the world, middle east, Africa, Asia. I once knew a girl in my class who was 14 and was already engaged.
Not only girls, boys are also victim of child marriage. Last year I met a boy which was probably in his mid 20's.He was forced to get married by their parents at the age of 14/15. From that age, he has been suffering from depression. He told me how he was unable to maintain a healthy relationship with his parents and family. Besides this he got cheated by his wife which made his life more painful.

A simple answer points to the Indian caste system. There is an expression in India that “bringing up a daughter is like watering a neighbor’s plant.” India places women lower than men. There is a total and complete disrespect for women in Indian religious scriptures. The Mahabharata, Book 13 Section 40 (13.40), states, “There is no creature more sinful, than woman. She is poison, she is snake.” Other texts say that “Women are living lies.”

My parents have asked me not to get married 😂 My father had a hefty bank account set up when I was born, which was eventually meant to used as my marriage fund. After I graduated with my bachelors degree, my father sat me down and told me that whatever he has saved up for my marriage can now be used to fund my Post Graduation studies. He wants me to move abroad and live my life.
My grandmother was married at the age of 15 and my mother was married at the age of 30 after graduating med school snd becoming a doctor. I hold immense respect to both of my grandparents for breaking the chain of child marriage and supporting my mother's wishes.
Even my grandmother as well as grandfather both maternal and paternal were married in their teenage. But still they lived a happy married life and are continuing to do so. But my parents and uncles and aunts weren't child married.
So stupid! What is fashion? The youth runs after daily changing tends like a sheep and feels liberated? Tradition has many reasons. Here why the girls are made to marry asap? Coz even after they study most of those don't get any jobs! They end up doing minimal jobs. The meaning of education is lost when it doesn't help them improve their life. Isn't it?

Love marriages statistically are move likely to end in a divorce.. so it all comes down to what kind of arranged marriage you going to have. One- it’s arranged marriage u saw in the video, basically everything what westerners think an arranged marriage is. 2nd- its blind date on steroids where your family emotionally blackmail your in getting married to someone they think is perfect for u and you are given from few weeks to months to get to know eachother before you get married but you still gets ‘veto’ and then your family find someone else for u and whole process starts again.

No, actually the boy who had a crush on her was making her family "lose face" in society since romantic love and choosing your own partner is taboo in India, so they married her off to someone else. She said her parents were also afraid of her running off with the boy, which makes me assume that she reciprocated those feeling but her parents didn't agree. Even teenage crushes are considered a threat to the traditional values of society, and having your parents choose your spouse is considered moral and respectable. (I'm Indian, so I know.) EDIT: WOAHHH 2 years later, over 3K likes on my comment, and only now am I notified!! To answer some questions: Mustafa (Mu-Mus) and his wife are in their mid 70s. They come from VERY rural Turkey, and their union basically solidified a fruitful deal, as now they own a gigantic piece of prized land, which has secured financially both of their families completely. Although they are indeed Muslims like me, it's their CULTURE that joined them together, it is NOT a religious thing whatsoever. As for the notion of 'force'... a lot of y'all (presumably Western folks) don't seem to understand the mere WEIGHT of your family's opinion on everything you do, for most people in the Middle East and Orient. A lot of y'all also have failed to think about the fact that the romantic love people so desperately seek today, is a very recent phenomenon... and a not very effective one.

That honestly sounds terrifying. I hope you get the opportunity to keep with school and even go to college. Marriage can wait a long time. And some of us are very happy being single. I’m a single woman and bought my own house. I love it. I watch my niece often and my mom, sister and I go take walks together because I purposely bought a house close to my sister. Plus there’s always the option of meeting someone and getting married if you want. Most of the ppl I know got married in mid to late twenties or early 30s. I honestly don’t know anyone who married as a teenager. I’m from US, and that’s my experience here. Anyways just trying to say please don’t ever buy into the you’re too old thing if that happens because that’s not true. They’ll be nice guys to meet when you’re out of school. Many of the young men don't wan to get married either. I know one who was forced into marriage in his late 20s and he warned his parents he wouldn't stay with his new wife. When she came to live at his parents home he refused to sleep in the same room with her and the marriage was never consummated,. A week later he left home and found a room to rent. He is a taxi driver. His wife has stayed with her inlaws for years and they are very fond of her, and her own parents won't take her back. She has little chance of remarriage or having children, so she will just stay with the inlaws and care for them in their old age. Do the parents not realize that doing this only adds to the poverty of their society?

This is part of the reason why they are in poverty is because they are already poor and then making more and more babies in a poor environment.
They are just continuing the cycle of poverty, sadness, unhappy and unhealthy marriages and too many children.
If they let their daughters go to school and get degrees this helps break the cycle and they can make money on their own.
The more they are in school, the less babies they make, the smarter they become, the more chance they have at a good job and eventually having a happy marriage.

I lived near Malda for a while. while I lived there, I had some friends who were about 13-14. They don’t know their ages. At that age they were ready to be married. One time, a friend almost got married at 12, but it wasn’t even a marriage, her family was unwittingly selling her into prostitution. We managed to save her, but a year later another girl, who was very close to me was married and we could do nothing. Now she has 2 children and she is 16. All my friends asked me When I was going to marry, I was about 12. I said that I would wait until I found the right man and I had gone through school. This concept was so far fetched to them. I now almost all my friends who are now 15-16 are married with children. They are about 10 years younger than her husband. I hate this, it breaks my heart

Young Indian people are starting to refuse arranged marriages and rejecting the dowry system. Change is slow but it is happening.
