  • Astronaut Frank Borman died on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 95. In this "CBS Sunday Morning" story originally broadcast December 23, 2018, Borman and his fellow crewmates from Apollo 8, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders, talk with Lee Cowan about becoming the first humans to circle the moon, and of the photograph they brought back: the first image of the Earth above the lunar surface. Dubbed "Earthrise," it showed humanity the beauty and fragility of our home planet, and helped invigorate the environmental movement.

Frank Borman passed away today, November 7th 2023, aged 95. He was one of the last from the charismatic first generation of astronauts, those who manned the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions in NASA's golden days. Their unbelievable courage and my admiration for people like them is well beyond description.
I hope he feels in peace now, in that intimidating Space he admired so much. We lost another great, irreplaceable American. The Country that made such outstanding people is unable to generate them anymore. My condolences from Portugal. 🙁

Jim holds more than one first in space. I remember the character doing the thumb in the movie Apollo 13.

Lovell may well hold the singular (individual) 'highest altitude' record, as during the free return of Apollo 13 he let the other two (rookies) enjoy the view of the Moon's far side, while he would have been about 2 or 3m further away from (i.e. further above) Earth, cleverly resting on the far side of the capsule. Individual highest altitude record, held for more than 50 years now.

"Thank you for saving 1968" indeed. And they may have helped save us all. Knowing that we are all the "passengers and crew of Spaceship Earth" (Buckminster Fuller) and that by cooperating we can finally have peace on Earth is key to the survival of the human race.

Literally crying through all this. People don’t understand what a miracle Earth is. It’s my favorite planet by far and I will defend it come what may. That picture has hung above my writing desk for 20+ years. It’s been the wallpaper for my current laptop since before coronavirus when I lost my home and moved to California after coming out transgender and a divorce. I’m still living in my car -almost 5 years now-trying to finish my book which WILL save the world. Among rejections of my papers, being ignored by AI companies who both discriminate against transgender women, and won’t listen to vital information I have about AI, I look at that picture every day for inspiration. Thank you for this!!! ❤❤❤❤️‍🔥🙏🏻👁️❤️❤️❤️ My life for that world. I don’t do what I do for one person. No one who ever did anything great did it for one person. Love both conquers all, and it connects all things across vast expanses of time and space. ❤ I see you and I hear you across the silent voids, I hear the whisper in the web of life, the symphonies on your shores. I landed here on this earth in time to see that moon landing and I will help people see beauty and have faith again. Life is sustained by meaning plain and simple.

This was wonderful. I use this iconic image of The Earth from The Moon as a meditation focus. The only sad part of this segment was the thought that if Al Gore did become President, our world will be an even better place than it could be today.
Americans sure missed the compassion and intelligence that a President Gore could have given The World 🌎 ❤

On Christmas Eve, 1968 I was at the CINERAMA Movie Theater in São Paulo, Brazil, to watch 2001 A SPACE ODISSEY. In this movie Stanley Kubrick showed EARTHRISE, exactly like it appeared to Apollo 8 astronauts!!!!

On Christmas eve 1968 the three astronauts in Apollo 8 orbiting the moon read out chapters from the Genesis...
      Bill Anders
We are now approaching lunar sunrise, and for all the people back on Earth, the crew of Apollo 8 has a message that we would like to send to you.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.[6]
      Jim Lovell
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.[6]
      Frank Borman
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas - and God bless all of you, all of you on the good Earth.[6]

The original authors of the Bible, placed heaven at the far side of the Moon.
It’s ironic that an Apollo astronaut quoted from Genesis, when his own location and vantage point, utterly debunked the Bible.

    • @MariaMartinez-researcher
      @MariaMartinez-researcher 8 місяців тому

As it was quoted by Galileo, the Bible shows the way to go to Heaven, not the way the heavens go (Cardinal Baronius. Yup. A cardinal. Check the Wikipedia article Letter to Benedetto Castelli). Those who condemned Galileo mistook a religious book for a science one; please don't make the same mistake. You can consider the Bible as debunked when you can prove that the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule are false, that the Good Samaritan wasn't actually good, or that loving each other is not a commandment required for the survival of humankind.
