    For those scoffing that we already landed on the moon with ancient technology, please recall: Apollo 1 killed all 3 astronauts on the ground. Apollo 11's lunar crew had a brush with death during landing due to a guidance computer overload. Apollo 12 almost killed everyone thanks to two lightning strikes just after liftoff. Apollo 13 nearly killed everyone thanks to an explosion onboard. So yes, we've done this before. It was really, really hard. We only did it thanks to an obsessive national focus, colossal budget, and some astronauts who were willing to take grave risks that would never be accepted today. The technology was primitive then, and it showed. We still have a lot to learn, and Artemis could be a giant leap.

      @Jon Schoen - In that dirt, there's Helium-3. Enough to theoretically power human energy needs for up to 10,000 years--nuclear fusion. Apparently more abundant than on earth, but not in comparison to other celestial bodies in SOL.
      The cost do it, for decades, has or would've been too costly. It seems that could all change, quickly.
      That's besides justifications presented in this video (gateway to, and testbed for, Mars--and beyond).
      There are plenty of reasons to go back to the moon, and set up a habitat.

      NASA is no failure, they helped pioneer spaceflight, and many of their robotic missions have been absolutely groundbreaking. It's their manned spaceflight programs that have fallen short since Apollo.

    • @crosbones5262
      @crosbones5262 5 років тому +3

      Jon Schoen every mission using a chemical rocket has a risk, but I see why the complex system makes you think it might fail. There’s always a small chance, but the engineers, workers, and astronauts at NASA have plans that they go over to fix almost every possible scenario that could go wrong. They also train very hard and seriously. NASA knows they will be in great trouble if a mission of this cost fails. These risks are necessary for the future they will bring to humanity.😁
