They should have been CHARGED for their assault against Miu, since they were deliberately threatening him, so they could attack him while claiming self-defense. They were on him like a pack of wild jackals, ENJOYING it.

They're also using testimony from before they read him his rights, so they can't use that against him. This is a kangaroo court right out "Deliverance," i.e. same plot, different river, where they defend against attackers, but become the criminals in hiding.
It's not about who hits first, it's who THREATENS first. Miu just stood his ground while they came at him, and witnesses clearly said that he was obviously going to be attacked. So he was well within his rights to push the ugly girl away for threatening him. It was a SET-UP.

The most pivotal part, of both the prosecution and defence claim, 'Miu threw the first punch' is the only piece of video evidence that's missing. That sets off alarm bells in my mind. For me, that's the key to the entire self defence or instigator argument. There's plenty of video evidence showing Miu being knocked down into the water and attacked yet the thing that was supposed to have started the events leading to the unfortunate killing wasn't captured 🤷🏻‍♂️
I firmly believe this was self defence, yes Miu didn't help himself with the events afterwards I'll admit, but who's to say he wasn't in some form of shock? I don't for one second think he set out to kill anyone but when you're being attacked by a mob you'll probably just be lashing out trying to stop the attack, I know I would. It's a shame someone died but it's more a shame his 'friends' put him in that situation in the first place. In fact, they're the ones who should be on trial.

Judge Waterman is an honorable man of integrity and as any good judge does, he separates personal feelings from his duties. There’s no doubt that this has pained him, however. If you look back to the video of Miu’s initial appearance, an observant person can read the pain on Judge Waterman’s face. This is why the jury system is complete bs. Mr. Miu had NO LEGAL duty to retreat. They are supposed to be applying the LAW, not their personal thoughts and feelings. Finding out they believed a word of what A.J. said on the stand, when he was an atrociously bad witness and obvious liar, is sickening. Why pay any attention to the VIDEO when you can just take the word of an obviously embittered, angry, completely unreliable witness? And the whole thing of believing Mr. Miu hit Madison because more people said he did than said he didn’t is just disgusting. Not only did this jury not apply the law when deciding Mr. Miu was guilty, they didn’t even bother to apply any kind of logic in making their decision. How tf do these creeps (the jurors) sleep at night?! You should have to pass an IQ test to serve on a jury. These jurors clearly had their minds made up that Mr. Miu was guilty when the case began (and clearly based that decision not on the facts of the case or the law, but on the ages of the horrible little brats that attacked Mr. Miu) and wanted to punish Mr. Miu for their personal opinions and ignore the actual facts of the case. As I suspected, the jury convicted him based on a false (and inadmissible) argument by the prosecution that Miu should have retreated before using force. This runs contrary to the State's self defense laws - which does not contain a duty to retreat. In fact: if you read through the self defense statutes it actually forbids the court from even being able to consider whether the actor had an opportunity to flee or retreat before he or she used force. Yet this exchange proves it was the primary motivator for the jury. A complete farce of a trial based on an unlawful argument that runs contrary to the state's own guidelines and laws. This conversation with the juror basically hands Miu an appeal on a silver platter.

Let's not pretend that all of the people that we watched lie on the stand (there was a video) didn't have an absolute ton of legal risk if the jury determined that Mui acted in legitimate self defense (which it truly appears that he did), and that their actions were now called into question. There is also the psychological benefit to them if they can establish and maintain an internal mental "story" that makes Mui the crazed villain. Can you imagine what it would feel like for them (Cockfield with the camera and dreams of "worldstar" status, etc. in particular) if they had to honestly account for their part in this and the level to which it caused the end outcome?

I'm not even surprised... In my country criminal trials are usually decided by tribunals and not jurors, but the few times jurors do they come up with such stupid veredicts that judges had to ask for a retrial. We had this famous case of an elderly couple (they were in their late 70s) that had two young men invading their house during the night. They knew the couple had a safe with money. The criminals started to get very violent to them even though they were complying, to the point that they were breaking the wife's fringers. The husband was leading one of them to the safe and used that as a pretext to grab a revolver he had hidden next to the safe. He ended up shooting one single time, hitting one of the assailants in the neck, which resulted on him bleed out to his death. The old man was prossecuted for that (in my country the law is not like in the US, and you're house is not considered your sacred safe space). During the trial, the even the "surviving" assailant said himself that he would've done exactly the same as the old man. And yet, the jury sentenced the defendant guilty of manslaughter, and in the explanation (in my country the juro has to elaborate the reasons a little bit) they said the reason he was found guilty was that he could've defended himself in a different way... EXCUSE ME? And old 70-80 year-old man against two 20-something year-old men?? The judge called the jury's BS out and call for a retrial. Ridiculous.

But Miu even admitted himself to placing the 1st unwanted touch..he said he at least pushed her and could have hit her but didnt "intend" on hurting her..and to be fair, he actully did the first unwanted touch on the boys when he rushed...he ran over to them at the very beginning and then started lifting the tubes and touched some legs of strangers...they could have had fear right then!!💯 So thats 2-3 people that he touched in an unwanted way before anyone laid hands on him...the verdict was correct IMO..but it is sad for sure all the way around...and the juror didnt say Miu must take the stand...he said it was his opinion that after all the fleeing the scene...showin no concern for the human lives bleeding out as a result of his actions.. concealing evidence, notably throwing the actual weapon... and also, all of his stories and lies he told..juror said it was simply HIS opinion that Miu needed to take the stand to clear some of that up..he didnt say he would have held it against him if he hadnt..i found him to be basically saying he thought his attorneys and Miu made the same choice he would have to take the stand.. unfortunately, there was soo much for Miu to clear up, and he didnt do that..he got caught in more lies tbh...it was a train wreck...he didnt display actions that someone forced to used deadly force as self defense to protect his own life...he acted the opposite of that as tho he knew it wss wrong or unjustified from day one until he was on the stand... guilty as charged..thanks jury for your duty❤😢

I have rafted on these Wisconsin Rivers more times than I can count.... in swimming trunks on an inflatable raft, there is no logical reason whatsoever to carry a sharp object like that in your pocket to drift down the river for enjoyment... the moment he took the sharp object out of his pocket to utilize against other people was when his intent to mrdr was established. It is a fair and reasonable belief that a sharp object like that is a d3adly object, the very act of choosing to use it against others proves the d3adly intent.
It's difficult for people that don't understand law to understand how that works. It's unfortunate they couldn't get there on that highest charge, but I appreciate the jury for being fair and careful in their proceedings 🙏🏼

so, with your extensive experience on Wisconsin Rivers, you no doubt have seen some of these tubes tied together for groups who want to ride together, right? Well, follow me on this one, the way they do this is to use some kind of rope material to wrap around a bunch of tubes to secure them together. Well rope rarely comes in the exact length to suit your purpose each time. It usually has to be cut to size. Do you really think they cut the rope with their teeth? No, most would use, you guessed it, or maybe you didn't, a knife!

Or if none of them had gone to the river that day, this wouldn’t have happened.
…but it didn’t happen any of those ways so you have to look at what actually happened. Miu was put in a position where he was forced to defend himself and he did. Imagine this situation where everything is exactly the same except Miu was a woman, would you honestly still feel the same way?

i agree with you 💯 percent. in addition, when he walked up to them he didn't say anything. he just gave them all this intense weird stare as he was pulling at their tubes. if I was there I would have been saying "wtf are you doing?" too. he could have walked over to them & said "my friend lost his cell phone. do you mind if I look around in the water here? " some of them might have even offered to help him look. instead he did seem like a nutter. NM didn't act in self defense. he didn't call out for help to anyone... not even his own group of friends who were within shouting distance. instead he just pulled out a blade. if it truly was self defense he would have immediately told his friend group right after. he would have been shaky & upset & scared. he would have said something like " I was just attacked by a group of people and I had to defend myself. some of them got hurt in the process. someone please call 911 because I need the police here now so I can file a report of what happened to me ". instead he was silent about the ordeal to his friends. he threw the knife away to try to hide it. he puts on a hat, shirt & sunglasses to disguise himself. then he LIED to police!!! those are NOT the actions of an innocent man who had to defend himself against an angry mob.

If he was truly scared, he would have never approached the group. He would have told everyone he had a knife, brandish the knife in a last attempt to get people to back off.

He took his knife on purpose. His friend knew this could be bad, and that’s why he didn’t go, even though it was his phone. He pulled out the knife ready to stab before he ever was attacked. He lied to the police after the stabbing, and then he lied about lying to the police... which means he lied when he swore to tell the truth... any time he was asked about something that would make him look bad he'd say "I don't remember".
