My dad told me when i was young that some people will not take an ass kicking and if I had to fight to not to play around. Never push and shove or grandstand. Be deliberate. Kids today don't worry about consequences either.
Exactly I’m 21 I have seen this stuff first hand kids thought they see an easy victim notice how all the laughing stops when he get serious and pulls that knife out
Good point on the consequences.

Listening to the officer reply to questions about odor reminded me of the differences between medical professionals and law enforcement. I'm an RN and many years ago I witnessed a man get hit by a car while crossing the street on his bike. It was bad. I stayed with him and did what I could to help him until the EMTs got there. The Sheriff, my home town, was standing over me watching. He said to me, "I smell alcohol do you?" I said no, I smell blood. I thought that was so odd.....I was focused on life, and he was focused on figuring out what happened. Well it turned out the he was very intoxicated.
Wow! That’s an interesting observation. I wouldn’t have considered how two different first responders ( one LE / one EMT ) would interpret the same situation
The alcohol smell is very strong in the blood of an intoxicated person, it also evaporates quickly so cops need to make an assumption in order to push for a rapid test. If they are very drunk and spilled out everywhere it stinks like alcohol worse than being in front of their breath. If it’s tested too late they may show as drunk
@@user-nf7ui7dz1z that wasn't the point....lol
Totally agree with R.N.
Interesting!
Leaving the scene that you're involved with, pretending you heard someone got stabbed, not calling 911 to say you were attacked and you defended yourself.
Innocent people take innocent actions as you mentioned above. Guilty people play dumb, can't recall, blame others, and minimise their actions.
You can’t read minds and don’t know why he said what he said.
But whatever he said or did after the fact does not change what actually happened.
"Hang around and confess to the cops."
Great legal advice there, Perry Mason.
@@andyhunter5869 really so those kids weren’t a bunch of liars. The defendant was antagonized the entire time. I don’t care what he did after. He hid a knife because he was scared. It doesn’t change what happened on the river.

I guess I have to believe from cops he did not appear intoxicated but adrenaline can sober you up real quick. He certainly was able to get rid of the knife exit the scene and have awareness enough to disguise himself. There was just something so off about him during the entire incident. Weird inappropriate staring and lunging at the tube instead of just leaving. Not trying to exaggerate but the comments that said he looks like a psychopath are not far off. The kids were total punks but this dude was off and had many other courses of action to take.

It was self defense being creepy is not a crime. He was strangled and outnumbered. Several people attacked him. They were causing him trouble. The moral of the story is mind your business .
Self defense? Guy got up and wasn't even bleeding .. yet he felt the need to not walk away .. but start stabbing people.. no, that's a crazy person .
What victim?
@@smoothassmoothit wasn't self-defense after he hit the girl and he had plenty of chances to leave and stuck around and at the beginning of the video he was actually walking away and when the kids started yelling he literally turns around and starts sprinting in the water and grabs her tubes and wouldn't let them leave SMH just like being creepy and it's not a crime yelling and being rude isn't a crime either it's called freedom of speech yeah those teams are being loud and obnoxious but that's what teenagers do. Any normal adult knows that and if they saw a bunch of loud teens and the average normal adult would just stay away from them and not even bother dealing with them SMH but Mr mui wanted a confrontation and that was obvious. And you keep saying he's outnumbered and being jumped and name one part in the video where more than one person is attacking him SMH every confrontation he had was a one-on-one situation most of the people were just there as bystanders there was only about three or four people that actually tried to push him away only one guy actually swung on him and that was only after he hit the girl. After that the other teams were trying to push him away because when he got back up he was trying to advance and go attack the other people in the group, and as they're trying to push him away he started stabbing them. Even the guy Tony got in the middle and try to break it up and told the teams to go one way and was telling the suspect to go the other way, and what does the suspect do, he stabs Tony twice Tony was literally trying to break it up and actually save him from anything happening to him and saving the teens from doing anything stupid. But go watch the video and tell me besides the first time he got punched by Dante because Dante was defending the girl, name another time where anyone actually swung a fist at him. If those teams really wanted to jump him and if it was 10 to 1 or 8 to 1:00 he would have never got up out that water he would have been out cold. It just shows the intent of the teams wasn't to hurt the guy, because they really wanted to hurt them they would have been Swinging with closed fist no one swung on him with a closed fist after that first initial strike from Dante. And like I said even after Dante hits him only about two or three other teams were trying to push him down and push him away and tell him to leave and none of them actually swung on him with a fist and like I said the rest of the teams were just there standing there as bystanders looking. Everyone trying to claim it was 10 to 1 and everyone was beating them up as laughable it's just funny how people make up stuff in their head when the video tells the truth and shows the truth
I’m so happy to hear a reasonable take on this Peter! When I saw he gave a 45 minute police interview and lied about everything, I knew he had possibly sunk himself.
I wonder why the state didn't produce that interview as evidence... maybe that's what they want to end on.
He might have been guilty of lying but he still is innocent of murder this was self defense.
@@smoothassmooth disagree. I don't think self defence. If you believed you were acting in self defence you wouldn't think you need to lie. You'd be racing for help. Hello.
Imo it was retaliation, not self defence. Not saying it wasn't understandable, not saying the kids are innocent, just saying I don't think it's self defence
@@bettywillbrowse people don't know the law as I can see in these comments sections. Maybe he thought he was in the wrong or in shock but I have watched a couple of lawyers channels and they think this is self defense. He was attacked by multiple people and was in a very dangerous situation. He also has a heart condition. They could have killed him . They were taunting him making fun of him attacking him. They were pushing him in the water and he had lacerations on his back. He had no one to help him his group was too far away. You don't know until you are in that situation.
@@bettywillbrowsethat's not necessarily true. People get scared. They lie about all kinds of things. They may start thinking they could get in trouble regardless of self defense. It's not like it hasn't happen before where someone stands trial and has to fight for their freedom when they have a legit self defense claim so don't act like innocent people don't have reason to worry. Those kids did attack him. That's not debatable. It's on video. It is believable that he did feel he was in danger. I know I would feel that way if a crowd of people attacked me in the water. I'd probably be afraid of drowning but that's me. Maybe someone else would feel different, but it doesn't mean it would be an unreasonable belief, which is the standard. I just don't understand why people are incapable of having an open mind about this. Has anyone stopped to ask themselves WHY he would do this if he wasn't in fear? He didn't know them, had no history of violence and they were aggressively attacking him. It's reasonable to assume the guy did feel he was in danger. What's not reasonable is all those guys getting up on the stand claiming THEY felt in danger when there were multiple of them and they were the ones antagonistic toward HIM. Why is no one even considering that?
Glad your covering this. My kids and i float this river all the time.
Ditching the knife and not voluntarily approaching police is definitely not a good look when claiming self defense.
Who cares, running from the cops is not a good look either but has nothing to do with why you ran. Fleeing isn’t murder .

@@latentsea Well, apparently the jury will potentially care. That's what we're talking about right? That's why Peter mentioned it numerous times, because it will look bad to the jury. Personally I can see past it, but I'm not emotional by nature. It's just not what you would typically expect from someone claiming self defense. Evasion and hiding evidence always will tend to raise eyebrows. Acting like he didn't know what happened also looked bad. I still think he has a strong argument for self defense, but get a couple of emotional jurors who are swayed by the relative youth of the victims and the gruesome scars, and this stuff could very easily give them reasons to act on their feelings rather than follow the evidence. It doesn't take much if a juror wants to convict and is looking for a few bad facts to hang their hat on.
“I hear somebody Got stabbed” sir you penetrated 5 children with a blunt ultra Sharp object.

One of the cops said he looked like in trance…lying might be just a consequence of the threat that he perceived.

(4).why claim kids pulled knife on him + hit him first? (5) Why rush guys on tubes first? (6) Why punch a women first? (7) Why stab 4 TEENAGERS + 1 YOUNG ADULT??
Trauma shock
why would he call the police when he didn’t know the incident was being filmed. That would have just created a situation where there were 13 people all lying against him and he would have no proof.
Great closing arguments!
@jonnysalami692 he tried to grab at the kid with the video in the beginning. He grabbed the kids leg, and the kid stood up. He came to them, they weren't going towards him. They were wrong with how they acted, but he had plenty of space and time to leave. He kept going towards people
@@jonnysalami692to call out the teenagers abusive behavior. Especially since they were intoxicated and acting wild. They could have heckled other people as well.
Miu was pissed off and it wasn't because of the name calling and certainly not fear of the teens. His friend's lost phone was in a waterproof case. He went to look for it. I think he thought these teenagers found the phone and that's why he grabbed at their tubes and refused to leave. He was asked to leave over 20 times and stood there with his knife at his side. Thank God for the video.
🎯🎯🎯
They initiated contact with him. He did not have to leave. Who are they to order a man to leave a public space? They were drunk teens looking for drama, and they got what they asked for. This is a simple self defense case, and any sane human can see that. They were the threat, he was the victim.
Exactly right. Mui could’ve left but he was being antagonistic to the teens as well. He actually did leave at one point according to his NOW x-wife (?) No one wanted to get involved with his aggressive behaviour almost like they knew he does things like this. The teens asked many times for him to just leave and he didn’t. If you’re defending yourself that means you had no opportunity to leave. He’s guilty for being the instigator and 1st degree manslaughter
That could have been true initially, but once he was being attacked and yelled at, he could be in deep fear for his safety.
@@chrisgullett4332regardless of of a tone told him to leave if he was so scared he had multiple opportunities to leave. He provoked the kids and not one kid touched him once the Carlson group showed up
State acts like he did it because he was angry, not for self defense. We are allowed to be ANGRY at the people we are defending ourselves from. Heck yeah we are!
Except he lied afterward and there's no proof he feared for his life in the moment. Sad case.
Glad you are covering this case!
Miu was not intoxicated. He was the adult in the group of teen boys. He should have, could have, walked away. A response to name calling or being shoved should not result in stabbing people. And then for Miu to pretend he is clueless as to the stabbings shows he's a sicko.
What video did you watch. They surrounded him and deliberately moved in between him and his group while yelling things designed to incite violence against him and then one of the females who was in his face yelling threats put her hands on him first which started the physical fight. Also the kid who got disemboweled put his hands around his throat to choke him (lethal force) then when he was on his knees shoved him face first into the water which the man had every reason to believe was an attempt to drown him (lethal force) so he was facing a mob of 13 who were physically attacking him and one used lethal force twice. He then had every right to use lethal force and he only stabbed those that hit him, no one that didn’t hit him got stabbed. Self defense all day.
I absolutely agree 👍
Yes this video tells all
@@jonnysalami692 where did you get all the extra info? None of that was in the video... im talking about the choking and pushing his face in the water
I’m a similar age to the defendant, I saw the video for the first time thinking the teens injured the man. The only person who terrified me from the beginning was the defendant, his entire body language was that of a guy just before a fight. It was the way he walked to the tubes, I would be shaking just seeing him. I think the teenagers were drunk and fearless which ignored his body language, but the only threat at that time was him.
They were literally scared. Did you not see them scatter when he came to their tubes? They were literally yelling to get attention from bystanders and they got it.
These were 100% soft little teenage boys. I've seen and have been apart of teenage groups that would've been real danger. We for sure wouldn't have let him walk up to us like that and we for sure wouldn't have let him up after the initial push. These were kids caught in the crossfire of a murderous old man and a group of adults fighting.
@@clc7763she said she would have been.
@fatee5069 they weren't "scared." They were screaming taunts, calling him a pedo all while the rest of the guys laughed, outnumbering and attacking him in water. In hindsight the situation wasn't so funny, huh? Kids had guts until he showed them what they look like.
I'm much older than the defendant & a feeble old lady, and I totally agree. The defendant is the one who would have scared me.
I think the alcohol/marijuana consumed prevented the young people from seeing the danger coming thier way. All they saw was a lone old man in swim shorts on the river in the middle of the day.
He seems intensely focused on the group as he walks towards them, he doesn't appear to be looking for anyone in particular, he appears tense but confident as he approaches them, imo he show's no sign of being in fear for his life or anything else during that time
So appreciate your analysis Peter and thank you for answer a question I had re the defense/defendant interaction 🙏 I’ve been appalled by the behaviour of the youngsters as seen in the video…but am now dumbfounded at Mr Mui’s response in the police car…will keep watching the trial and so looking forward to your next video on this case!🙏😊
In my mind he was guilty when he left the scene and didn't call 911 nor asked anyone to call 911 as soon as he could.
I'm sure he was in shock.
And scared
Why would he? He didn’t know the incident was filmed. All 13 people there were attacking him so him calling the police would have created a situation where every witness would lie and say he attacked unprovoked and it would just be him with no proof saying he was attacked first.
Your mind is a scary place.. if you were accused of stealing and you left the scene are you a thief? If you didn’t steal. Two separate incidents, use that noggin better
Thank you for covering this. Very sad all around
What a polarizing case. I’m fascinated by how many people have already made up their minds based on a confusing video that did not catch the entire incident. Let’s wait until we have all evidence, from both sides, plus jury instructions, before we either convict or acquit him in our minds.
I completely agree. The video was disturbing to watch and I did not like the behaviour of the youths that was intimidating. However, the defendants reaction resulted in serious injury and the death of a young man. The video has to be considered in the context of the rest of the case. No-one at the river that day from what I have seen (barring those who tried to provide medical aid, such as the nurse who did CPR) seem to have behaved well that day. Very few "adults" seemed to be present to difuse the situation. But at the same time such brutal injuries and the loss of life does not seem justified. I agree that all the evidence has to be considered though before anyone can really form a conclusive opinion of guilt or innocence.
I find it really strange that people are jumping on "guilty" or "not guilty" right off the bat...so much emotion in the comments. I think this guy may walk, it isn't based on my feelings, rather that the defense has put up a good case for mob mentality and fear for safety...which might be enough to get him out of a 1st degree murder charge and he walks. He may indeed be guilty of 2nd dgr Murder but that isn't what he is charged with.
Agree.
i’ll be very surprised if my mind changes after seeing/hearing all of the evidence… guilty af
@@MarileeJohnson626why bc he didn’t behave in the way you thought he should, it’s not everyday you kill someone (possibly self defense) that could make you have a mental breakdown especially if you’re not a cold blooded killer.
There were 13 attackers. They clearly started it. The attack began verbally. However, there are lots of things that show Miu was trying to hide his involvement. That said, it is crystal clear that the drunken young people began what was a completely unprovoked attack. That isn't in question. In fact Vang admitted he and his drunken buddies were bullying him. Isaac (the guy who died) quite literally grabbed Miu around the throat and choked him. It was a clearly aggressive act, and it's all on tape. There was absolutely no one from Miu's party there to help him. This has some sad echoes of the wrong driveway murder that just ended in a guilty verdict. I believe that he should be held accountable, but the individuals who initiated this confrontation should bear some of the legal responsibility here. Again, THEY STARTED IT. They attacked a man who was all alone, and escalated the attack into what we are dealing with today. Those little shits are going to get off, and this man, an engineer with a solid, good citizen type history, is probably going to spend the rest of his life in jail because he acted out of fear and someone died. Same as the wrong driveway killer who was sentenced to LWOP.
Calling him a paedophile was designed to incite others to join the mob and participate in their attempted murder of Miu

It doesn’t seem you have seen and heard the original cell phone video. The videographer, Jawan Cockfield, screamed Mr. Miu was a “raper”looking for little girls etc. when he was simply wading & snorkeling on the edge of the creek looking for his friend’s lost phone. These crude lies then became the war cry of the other 5 drunk and stoned 17 year old young men. There is NO evidence they felt victimized & asked for “help.” The Carlson party heard the melee & stopped to “see what was going on” according to the courtroom testimony of the admittedly stoned & drunk woman Rhylie. Four women, a man and the Carlson dudes interjected themselves and then everyone went into the scrum because of the exaggeration or flat out lie about Mr. Miu “punching a woman in the face.” 😢

Isn't self defense negated by the fact that he was the instigator of the altercation? Yes, the boys shouted and laughed at him, but they were lying on their tubes several feet away from him, and he ran over to them, grabbing their tubes and not letting them leave. Regardless of how young and fit they were, at that point the original video shows him as the aggressor. I was told in my concealed carry class that if I start a fight then get jumped by the other person's friends, I can't use lethal force then claim self defense. I guess legally the question is, are words/laughter or physical contact considered the instigation?

He was told over and over to leave and just like the witnesses said, he said nothing and would not leave. The defense kept focusing on the girl getting punched like it did not happen. I clearly heard the yelling about hitting a woman in the video. He could have walked away and made it to the bank and walked in any direction that he needed to. He gutted people.

If you've never been in a situation where you literally "see red", it's very hard to understand how your body takes over in your "fight" mode. You're super focused on the "enemy". I couldn't talk when I was in that state. All I could think of was what people around me were doing, if they were a threat to me, and how to keep myself safe, and fight if I needed to.
I'm sure that after the whole incident, he snapped out of it, just like I have myself. It's at that point where the "omg, what happened" and "what do I do?" questions come in.
He knew he was going to get in trouble, and was trying to get out of it.

The drunk and stoned squad of six who first started accusing him of being a pedophile and a child rapist snowballed into people saying he had a “creep” look on his face and didn’t say anything. For whatever reason that seems to be his affect and it remains so in the courtroom. Some people have questioned whether he also might be hard of hearing.
There was some discussion between both sides during the arguements about the what information could come in from conversations with the wife and one of the things that I thought was interesting is during a prison call (which are recorded) Miu was stating that he called for help and that no one heard them and that he blamed them because because they didn't help him while he was fighting.
One of the witnesses of the encounter testified that his eyes looked demonic.
Lying about his actions and trying to get away after the altercation? Troubling.
I agree on the appearance and that hurts with a jury.
That said enough innocent people have been prosecuted into jail or poverty I can see a some people wanting to just leave without notifying authorities and letting their conscience and an afterlife judge them. It’s not a majority, but it’s not a rare thing either.
Trying to get away to the tubing exit where all the Police were?
*I completely agree with "rydplrs71".* And I will go further to say that in this day & age...it is better to leave quietly & risk being captured by the police..than to stay and say anything to the police. The police are only friends if you need them to stop an attack that is happening......once the attack is over, they become 'the enemy' as their goal is to take away the freedom & wealth of self sufficient people.
CASE IN POINT: Not one of these teens was arrested, although there is plenty of probable cause to arrest them for gang assault & murder. Yet this old disabled man is on trial, and the teens get to play victim like they were choir boys minding their own business when some pedophile raper just jumped them stabbing away.
why would he call the police when he didn’t know the incident was being filmed. That would have just created a situation where there were 13 people all lying against him and he would have no proof.
This guy used a deadly weapon on several people and harmed them. He didn't give them a warning and he didn't just scratched skin. He most certainly knew what a knife can do to organs. Using it was his responsibility, his choice. So why not standing by his own actions? If using a deadly weapon for self defence was actionally necessary.

Cody, you ever need drunk? Should you be dead?
Mui is only claiming self-defense because he got caught. He was trying to get away and he dumped the weapon. If he was really in the right, he would have left the scene and contacted law enforcement because he knew he caused major damage. Instead he dumped the weapon and tried to escape. If he was in the right, he would call 911 and get help there right away, even if he had to leave the scene to be safe. I get that he might have to leave it to be safe. But the rest of his actions show he wasn't in any fashion going to take personal responsibility for his part in the fight.
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Those kids weren't just drunk they were maniacal
I’m guessing he was terrified having never been in trouble with LE before, and was probably panicking quite a bit, which leads to bad decisions. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t self defence ❤
He claimed the knife was one of the teens and he didn’t have a knife? Nope, it was in his pocket - the video shows that clearly. He could have walked away, but re-engaged. GUILTY.
Right! He had knife out before he hit the girl as video shows . Funny how only 1 of teens was stabbed rest were from Carlson group
He re-engaged?
@@jonnysalami692 hahaha damn reading this is pure entertainment
@@jonnysalami692 You must not have watched the video.
He couldn’t have walked away, he was cornered. He would’ve had to swim away. Besides, there is no duty to retreat.
He walked back to his group. He could have stayed with them. But then went back to where the teens were. If he was so afraid for his life why did he go back where the kids were.
He went back to stab them.
He could have called 911 or had someone in his group call 911 for him and then maintained a safe distance until the police arrived.
How can he now try to claim self defense if he went back? I really believe the kids bruised his ego and he went back to teach them a lesson.
He wasn’t afraid at that point, his ego was bruised by being called names so he went back….that was HIS fatal mistake. I still don’t think they’ll get 1st degree but also because of post incident behavior he won’t prove self defense either (depending upon juror emotion). If they go by time of incident behavior, it could be self defense when it was 15 vs 1, but after the fact, he doesn’t show self defense behavior.
@@AKA-NanaI completely agree
Wow, he and his whole group acted like they weren't with the guy LEO was looking for! They are ALL BAD for that. They aided him in hiding in plain site, right? Seriously. He was trying to avoid getting caught.
Exactly and the one lady even asks the Cops...what did he do? Like they had no idea yet they get on the stand and say he feared for his life? I thought they didnt know what happened!🤔 Mr stabby could have walked away initially instead of rushing back to confront a bunch of drunk teenage boys!
@darrinhaskell6068 They claim they didn't know he stabbed anyone. I learned more after I made that comment.
I didn't know he had tossed the knife and acted like nothing happened when he got over to them. But, BUT, they heard commotion. The one friend also walked over and was much closer neat the end. They saw that some people were in some kind of situation. They heard the yelling and screaming afterwards. They weren't too far away to understand there was a huge problem. So, normal people would have been asking him questions and talking about it.
It's all very odd. I have just begun watching Day 3 and watch gradually.
But, they saw police, EMS and he knew he hurt people because he washed blood off his hand and tossed knife. So, no matter what, he evaded LEO and had zero intentions of telling them he was involved. He definitely was trying to leave unnoticed. People are saying he simply put his shirt back on. OK, I can accept that. Maybe he wasn't trying to disguise himself. I truly think he is mentally ill, not just for stabbing. I think he might have a personality disorder, possibly undiagnosed up to that day. Maybe he was diagnosed afterwards. The ex wife is very weird. I can say a lot of things about her. I did watch her already. On stand she was unsure if his quadruple was in 2020. No one, no wife, forgets the exact day a husband has that big deal surgery.
Definitely is very fishy that they all act like nothing happened! The one kids intestines were hanging out! Im not sure how his ine friend did not notice that! He most certainly has mental health issues to be able to act like nothing happened after stabbing multiple people and knowing one had died after police told him about the arrest for homicide! Im curious....although no bearing on the events of the day....what happened with his marriage! Was he out on bail all this time? I need to look up some more information on this for sure!

Just turn your back on them? Turning your back on a drunk gang isn’t a good idea and a lot of men carry a knife especially to an outdoor event. The gang was wrong and you have to protect yourself.
Even Kyle Rittenhouse tried to turn himself in on the scene and the cops told him to disperse.
@darwinawardcommittee JUST STOP IT. Rittenhouse and Zimmerman are PROVEN racist pricks. Stop sympathizing with them getting away with murder.
Many people said Rittenhouse would be convicted of murder too yet he was found non guilty. Real Americans hate bullies like like these poorly brought up psycho "kids" at Apple River.

Why would you move forward to the kids?
Nobody touched him until he hit an innocent lady.
Unless u had the intent to harm someone, these were kids being kids.
The fact that u blame the kids says a lot about you.
@bmichael8187 Kyle was actually running away. He wasn't just standing around and going towards danger. Kyle was running while ppl were chasing him and swinging at him. He only used his gun after he fell down. Had he been able to keep running, he wouldn't have shot the second ppl. The first guy was chasing Kyle too and Kyle ran at first until he got caught up in between parked cars and had nowhere to go. So this case is way different then Kyle's case. Kyle actually seemed like he was in real fear for his safety. Mr miu kept staying in the middle ofca group of ppl he claimed to be terrified of. And he pulled his knife out as the 3 females where yelling at him telling him to just leave. Miu had plenty if times to just go back to his group and ignore the loud mouths. We have freedom of speech in America so you can't get upset over ppl yelling and being rude etc. As long as they don't threaten you or stalk you and continue the behavior, there's not much you can do. He initiated the contact. They were sitting in their tubes. He said something, and they reacted by laughing and heckling him and also telling him to go away after he ran up and stopped them.
He could have just let them float on by.
He was also drinking and let his rage build until he lost all control. He chose to put that knife in his hand, THATS premeditation! We can all see it in his hands prior to anyone touching him. He decided he was going to hurt people in that moment.
If he felt trapped or afraid, why didn’t he say, “you’re in my way” or “let me go by” or “Stay back, I have a knife” or simply brandish the knife? Try that next time you’re in a crowd. Folks will scatter. Everyone would have backed away.
Instead, he just stood there. Very creepy behavior. It was almost as if he didn’t speak English! Then he lost it and hit the young woman and he got hit & smacked. No one else punches him. Jumps on him.

He was hit, pushed in the water, shoved, choked, harassed. You can't really say what he felt like. Plus he had quadruple bypass heart surgery only two years prior.
There is just something about this guy going over where this group of kids were that bothers me. The person who lost the phone said to forget about it because insurance would cover it, yet he goes over there anyway. I have issues with people who don’t respect boundaries with others. This day an age, it is not strange for those teenagers to feel like he was being a creeper. The man should have just walked away, but he didn’t, he had a very strange look on his face and kept hanging around…..he should’ve walked away….but he didn’t. Instead he stabbed teenagers.
Exactly, people talk about the lack of respect of the victims, but Miu was totally inappropriate and lacked respect for lunging at these teens, grabbing their tubes, blocking their way and never explaining, except he’s looking for little girls. He had a smirk on his face as the 20 something’s approached him. He totally disrespected these people and was looking for an altercation.
And he left once and came back! He lunged at those two kids and grabbed at their tubes/legs. THEY were freaked out, stood up and asked him wtf he was doing. He just looked at them silently like he was on drugs. Then, refused to leave. Scared, my as$.

There are several videos and all of the events leading up to the one that shows the stabbings show the complete opposite. He approached them, he tried to pull two of the boys off their tubes where they were floating at a distance, he approached the girls and everyone told him to leave. Then he came back with a knife, killed people, ran off, changed clothes, ditched the weapon and acted like he had no idea what happened.
Actually, him having the calm of mind to put on his hat, glasses and take the time to completely button up his shirt, correctly, shows lack of fear. He was calmly exiting, no fear. No rushing to get away from attackers, no heavy breathing, just a neatly buttoned shirt. How long did he need to redress? Why didn't he call the police over and tell them he was frightened.
He also knew to get rid of the knife!
Him showing no fear after he got away from his attackers is proof he wasn’t in fear at the time is beyond ignorant.

Honestly I will be disappointed if he gets found guilty. Do I think this kid “deserved” to die? No. Do I think anyone “deserved” to get stabbed? No. I do however think he was reasonable to fear for his life in that specific moment due to the fact he was out numbered by an angry mob of drunk, wanna be tough, loud and violent young adults who not only verbally assaulted, psychologically blackmailed but also physically attacked Mr. Mui as a gang 13 to 1. He had been submerged under water more than once. What happened after was clearly a trauma response. Disassociation is not unreasonable especially considering this man is not a psychopath, he has no desire in that moment to collect a trophy for his kill let alone be associated with something that was clearly violent beyond anything he’s ever experienced in life before and traumatic beyond belief. He did not resist arrest and I don’t think anyone in his position would want to be associated with murdering anyone not only because it would interfere with his freedom but because psychologically after the threat has been neutralized and policemen are present safety might allow logic to seep in. At that moment he might struggle internally with his decision making in a moment of fight or flight. After the fact he might realize he had other options and feel a reasonable amount of guilt and shame for what he didn’t premeditate and ultimately felt he had no choice to do. Does he even understand why he did it? How can he expect anyone else to understand why he did what he did in a moment of survival instinct. Not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

So far, I maintain if I were on the jury, I’m leaning guilty. What I find fascinating though is how we all watched the same video multiple times and we sincerely see the event so differently. It’s so interesting to me. I don’t think it has to do with people automatically being for the defendant or against. It has to be our life experience or something right?
I’m getting weirded out by how polarizing something that’s captured on video can be. How? I think it’s got to be life experience and maybe age? If you have kids? Teens? It’s kind of disconcerting.
@@theelletrain4775 it would be interesting to study for sure!
It is interesting. I watched the video without much context yet and I genuinely see both arguments. Yes he could have just left but so could the teenagers. Everyone seemed drunk, but that's not a legal defense. The teenagers did put hands on him, push him over and hit him while he was down, really scary, but stabbing 5 times seems a lot and no screaming. But some people don't scream when afraid (I actually lose my voice and freeze up). I feel both sides did very bad choices and I don't think killing was the intention, but he didn't try to scare them with the knife first or yell. However giving a warning first is not required for a self defense claim. I just don't know now what exactly the law says about this. Very interesting trial.
@@Lukkaboc interesting thoughts! It is an interesting trial. Teens were definitely in the wrong. His acts seem like ‘overkill’. It’ll def be interesting to see what the jury comes up with. The jury instructions will be good to hear, too.
@@jennifersmith6912 It's odd to me saying the teenagers were in the wrong. Is it ever a good idea to get into someone's personal space? Muchless yelling? No, also never a good idea to touch someone. But the onus is on him. If I was perceived as doing something "untoward" or "creepy" and a bunch of people were yelling at me to go away. I put my hands up and say "That was not my intention, I apologize and walk away." None of them showed any intention on touching him until he hit the first lady. You strike someone, then of course the group will try to protect their members and some continued to try to deescalate. He could have easily said..."Get away" and shown his knife, but he was intent on causing damage.
He approached and initiated the encounter. He initiated the physical confrontation. He brought the weapon with him to the confrontation. The fact that there were multiple people, they were more fit than him are all irrelevant if he initiates it all. Not self defense if you start a fight. He walked away and showed guilty knowledge by trying to hide the knife. Trying to leave the area. Attempting to deceive the police. Lied about having the knife. Claiming the kids must of had knives.
Except you can initiate the fight and regain the right to self defense if the other party unlawfully escalates to lethal force. The kid who got disemboweled put his hands around the guys throat and tried to choke him (lethal force) then when he was on his knees that same kid tried pushing him face first into the water (which the man had every reason to believe was an attempt to drown him, also lethal force) all before he pulled the knife. Also there is proof the female put hands on him first so if he did hit her it was legally justified. Also case law says you can use lethal force in instances where there are disparaging numbers and 13 v 1 meets that threshold.
You're a disgrace to the badge, 'sheriff'. You monumentally twist the facts and obviously know zero about use of deadly force & the laws as they pertain to self defense. The initial inciters/aggressors were the mob of teens, while Miu was just peacefully searching the river bottom in that area for a recently lost phone.
@markstone1619 yep just like a preacher, he was just comely searching for his phone. He was drunk, but all of them were.
Such a tragedy for all involved.
@@markstone1619 I gave specifics on the law and factors in the law. You did not discredit any of the factors nor give any explanation of your own perspective on the law. I guess if you just make declarations, that makes it true.
@@SheriffChuck81-qq5vq No, you gave nothing but twisted & highly biased declarations that had no factual basis.
Case in point: THEY initiated the encounter by yelling inciteful and slander/vile things that create rage in others to join in.
He happened to have a pocket knife, which he brought for the outdoor activities. He did not bring it as a premeditated stabbing weapon. I carry a knife 24/7/365. Does that mean I'm planning a stabbing? NO, Einstein.
Numerous wild offenders (over a dozen), in which several of them on video struck Miu several times, knocking him to the water, with NO signs of stopping created a genuine deadly threat situ, where his use of the knife was justified self defense.
But I guess you'd opt to just stand there and die if you were in his place. smh
I like how the defense team was giving crap to one of the other groups for sipping beer in their group picture, yet the defense shows a picture of the defendant's group with the same type of alcohol pose.
Exactly
Well all of the original group were under 18 years old so yeah it’s not hypocritical.
Apples/oranges. The one group consisted of rowdy teens who were underage and proven intoxicated, while the defendant's group was mature sensible ppl who drank in moderation.
@jonnysalami692 No, he did that about the 2nd group that came to help and were of legal age.
@@gumbodance “Help?” There is no audio visual evidence anyone was asking for help. The Carlson group woman Rhylie stated on the witness stand she joined her friends “to see what was going on.”
I have not been following this trial, so I took a couple hours to get an idea as to what happened. From what I see the lawyers and prosecutors sound very inexperienced in a trial setting ?? It seems that the suspect could have left his knife in his pocket, and just walked away from the altercation. Did he not realize there are cameras everywhere and someone must have documented it all. Anyone who has an interaction with Law Enforcement needs to understand they do not have an obligation to answer questions and should immediately verbalize that you want a lawyer and wish to remain silent. You have a much better chance at a good defense. The phrase "I do not answer questions" is so powerful .
I appreciate very much that u fast forward boring parts and move everything along beautifully
As I've written before:
Dude will get life, no parole, simply for failure of abiding by G-d's law. Really, who walks over to an intoxicated group of teens/folks calling you names and you feel taunted by? Call the police if you feel threatened, you're the adult. He knew he had the k--fe when he walked over, so why was he afraid? In fact, I'd argue he felt emboldened, contrary to feeling fear. Let us not feign naivety, he wanted to teach them a lesson. This one is so simple & even sadder.
Wtf are you talking about?
Again… it’s baffling to me how many people don’t want to hold the group of young men because they expect more from the older man. That’s so disappointing.
That small knife against 12 beefy 17 and 18yos who were drunk and high and surrounding him while also taunting him? I'd have been afraid even if I had a machete
Completely agree, he felt emboldened @sierrannomad
He wasn't afraid he was smiling almost throughout all of it like it was a game. He's a psychopath!
"I hear someone got stabbed and I fit the description." You are toast buddy!
I hope so! The young man was barely 17. Actually, he looked 14 or 15. Maybe I am biased because i am the mother of 3 young men.
The young man you are talking about was drunk and choking the man when he was stabbed.
Or on the spectrum
Nope. He was in big stress, he wasnt himself. Free Nic.
Good point. MANY engineers are-- As many as 50% of the engineers here in the Seattle area at Microsoft in Boeing I have been told. Mr. Miu is a mechanical engineer who came here as a kid from Romania in the 80’s for political asylum.
The drunk and stoned squad of six who first started accusing him of being a pedophile and a child rapist snowballed into people saying he had a “creepy look on his face and didn’t say anything.” For whatever reason that seems to be his affect and it remains so in the courtroom. Some people have questioned whether he also might be hard of hearing. I heard others mention it was difficult to hear because of the running water of Apple Creek.
I find it bizarre that hardly anybody questions the “he punched a female” story
There’s zero evidence to support it being anything BUT embellished
I think it's obviously a lie to justify their actions after the fact. They all changed their story on the stand after saying he slapped her on the day. A slap is certainly proportional to being shoved more than a punch is. They know they have to lie to make their case. I don't think the jury is going to fall for it.
I'm seriously questioning the punch to the girl too. She clearly escalated the situation. It looks to me like he raised his hand to wave to his group (possibly)? The youths are all lying and really did F around and found out that day. Not everything is a Snapchat video for clicks and likes and the video guy needs to take some responsibility for his behaviour that day. Noone wins here but I'm struggling with intentional homicide.
@@itsjust_Lisa What did the video guy do?
obviously false
If I were the prosecution.. I would have made the point that if the teens were out to hurt this man.. they would have done so when he aggressively charged their tubes while the teens were sitting in them. They didn’t do anything to him until he hit the blonde and I do think he hit the blonde because they all reacted at the same time. You see the blonde girl turn around in awe and then he get pushed down.
He also pulled the knife out before he got pushed in the water which shows intent hence first degree! He also slashed the one girl with her back towards him.
I know every dependent has a right to a fair trial and they will use self defense but any of us with a brain know this was murder , aggravated assault and attempted murder.
Miu seems like a time bomb walking around.
@@SmifNWessunyou are correct, I can’t believe so many people in the comments want this guy to be released to the general public so we have to randomly encounter him. Some people have no critical thinking skills.
I have been watching this trial each day. The defense lawyers continue to show their frustrations because they know this case is not winnable. All of the civilian witnesses are suffering from trauma. Most were teens at the time... Long term injuries.
Don’t confuse “trauma” with low IQ. Most of these idiots will end up in prison based on the way they were antagonizing a gentleman simply looking for a phone.. 🤷♂️
They were all having all blast messing with Mr. Miu until they realized he stabbed a bunch of them. You can hear them cheering and laughing while he gets hit and pushed under the water. Their tears on the stand don't move me.
@@Loveeleven10 OK, so drunk 17 year old boys can be obnoxious. We don't give them the death penalty for that.
@@msherry5”Obnoxious”?
You mean violent and criminal?
You need 12 jurors to convict him. They're not going to get it.
Go down these posts. Find 12 random posts and see if they all say guilty! They dont. There are people, including myself, that believe he is not guilty, and it only takes 1 in 12 to vote not guilty! Not to mention, do you really think he went to the river that day to start stabbing kids? Maybe if the state hadn't been so gluttony on their 1st degree intentional homicide, and went for a 2nd degree or involuntary manslaughter, he might get convicted but no way in hell is it 1st degree. That would be as if he walked up to a bunch of silent kids floating on the river and started stabbing them and we all know thats not what happened! I dont give 2 shits about what he said afterwards to the cops. Those kids started that whole thing and it didnt end well!!
He approached the group. Disregarded other independent witnessess to leave the group alone and go away. He approaches again and hits a woman not in the group- then stabs 5 people...including gutting someone and takes the life of a 17 year old boy. Leaves the scene. Tosses evidence. Changes clothes and lies to the police?
Yeah.... Thats no self defense. That's the actions of a guilty person.
Give this manchild life. He needs a lifetime to think about his poor and reckless decisions.
he was assaulted first. if you defend yourself upon being assaulted. it is self-defense
you’re right. He walked over right in their faces and pushed the first kid with the phone. That was the beginning of the end. He couldn’t be the grown up and walk away.
Clearly the video evidence goes agaisnt what you are saying. No evidence of him.punch the woman infact you see the women physically push him first.
funny how you omitted the part where the group ganged up on him, pushed him in to the water and punched his face while he was on the ground. also how one of the guys who got stabbed only got stabbed while lunging at him as he was getting up.
@@alo2x1 you must have missed the part where he walked up to them still sitting in their tubes in a creepy and aggressive way.
There were 3 separate groups. Independent witnesses telling him to get away from the younger group.
The man interjected himself and put hands on random kids floating in the river.
Then proceeded to gut people. Wtf are you talking about or trying to defend here? Listen to the testimony.
Slowly
Dude, that’s definitely NOT a pocket knife
Why would you keep saying that?
Remember Miu's group took a video. They sat for awhile when police and emt's were helping victims.
The Cuban lady panned around and Miu in the water sitting on the tube already had his long sleeve hunting camo shirt on, cap and sunglasses. Remember this is a day it was 87 degrees out and high humidity. The state has not pointed that out. You clearly see when he was in the area of the event he became fully dressed immediately to hide his identity when police arrived in the water at stabbing sceen.
Mr Miu was hoping noone was recording so he could get away with it.😂
He could have walked away. He came back. Plus, he stabbed multiple people. He is guilty.
They keep throwing the term "he walked away" so carelessly. Walking away and walking by are different. He walked by. He didn't walk away.
Who is the victim now? The person name calling and “bullying” (not touching, until female is hit) or the person (people) stabbed/killed? If this guy gets off free, this is setting a precedent that you can kill a person for verbally attacking you. If Nic would never have gotten his knife out, that teenager would be alive today. Nic might’ve only had a battery charge against him by the female he hit, not felony for murder.
Except people do get off EVERY day for egregious things they do to others. Then the media, judges, politicians and some of the public make the perp the victim. This isn’t setting any precedent when the precedent is set daily for criminals who get off with light punishments or no punishments for very egregious crimes.
there needs to be stiff laws about verbal attacks and bullying - these teens need to face charges themselves
I don't think he will get off
His being emotional less could be that he's in shock.
Plus I think him walking away and tossing the knife shows that in his own mind, he knew he was guilty.
Yes, he has the knife out before he was ever pushed down and hit, he was looking for a confrontation. And he's got this weird, creepy smile on his face and does a little dance. Strangest thing I've ever seen. I think the one witness that described his expression as demonic is pretty spot on.
BS
Yup! Premeditated.
Can you time stamp where it shows the knife out before he got assaulted?
He had knife out with the two girls … before he hit her… she lost her glassss probably saved her face from being slashed
That weird smile gives me chills
I think in the moment he may have been scared for his life, but immediately after went into self preservation mode and when he saw the reality of the situation unfolding around him he realized he could get in trouble and tried to hide his actions.
He probably was in complete and utter shock and had PTSD from being attacked by a mob of drunk "teens" aka grown MEN and punch in the face, slapped in the face and held down in water!!!! He was in utter fear for his life FFS!!!
