I can remember getting lost one day driving through a rural area as a teenager. I turned down a long dirt driveway hoping there would be an area I could turn around at. There wasn't and I pulled up to a house and thought, "oh no, I don't want to be here." A few seconds later an angry dude came storming out of his house asking me what I was doing there. You know what he did next? It wasn't pulling out a gun and immediately opening fire. He showed me a place to turn around and guided me out. The defendant clearly was looking for an excuse to shoot somebody. This also shows how sick our society has become.
Hopefully it's a rare occurrence. I've been worried about using someone's driveway to turn around. I travel a lot of county roads. They're the two lane, no shoulder kind, with a 50 mph speed limit. You can either risk a collision, or risk getting shot. I think it's very rare that someone in America would shoot someone like that guy did. Other than Arizona. I think they just passed a law that says it's okay to murder trespassers if you think they're illegal immigrants (so, all brown people? Even though there are Bulgarian and Ukrainian immigrants crossing illegally too). Personally, I was turning around on a rural road and pulled up towards a guys house. The owner came out and said hi. Then, I saw a brick memorial he had built for his son (who had died in high school). It stuck with me because I was so afraid he'd call the cops or shoot me... But, his son had died, and he wasn't mad at the world for it. There wasn't anything I could do to help that father.
Don't take this the wrong way he should be locked up i agree, but the judge talking about payments is a joke. There have been quite a few similar cases. Remember the one where the teenager went to pick up his little brother and went to the wrong house and was shot and killed?
@@sunshinelizard1AND the woman in Florida who thought the grassy field next to her apartment was hers and hers alone! She openly harassed the kids that used it to play (the landlord even said it was communal land and most definitely NOT hers). She’d blast music in her truck in the middle of the night, cuss out kids and call them names, throw objects at them, and finally she stole an iPad from one of them. The mother went over to confront her about the harassment and to get the iPad back. She then shot and killed the mother in front of her children. Then claimed the “feared for my life” BS. She actually googled how to legally shoot people before. So basically she orchestrated the entire thing to draw the mother to her door because she thought she’d get away with it. When the cops went to arrest her she “fainted” and played the victim of course.🙄
When it becomes unsafe to turn around upon making a wrong turn we’ve lost our ability to live in a society where we are not constantly afraid. This was intentional, and sickening. He was never worried about someone driving on his driveway. He intentionally didn't install a gate or a chain to set a trap for drivers who inadvertently drive on his driveway. He's been looking for an excuse to shoot someone in a long time. This is a pathetic attempt to disguise this shooting as a self-defense.
Hia neighbors told the investigating detectives that he was known in the area as having a very short fuse, and was insanely angry if anyone even turned around at the far end of his very long driveway. These young people, drove up a ways, saw it was the wrong hous and had turned around when he shot at them FROM BEHIND
There are a lot of people like this out there. One example is the "loud music trial" in Florida. Another recent one is Hannah in Georgia, who pursued and stopped someone, and then murdered him over a traffic infraction. It's really frightening.
Don't forget about Ralph Yarl (the kid that was shot by Andrew Lester). That trial hasn't happened yet. Old racist man (Andrew Lester) shot him through the door.

All he had to do was simply come out and approach her to ask the words, briefly, of "What are you doing here?" or "I think there's some sort of mistake", guided her correctly to which street her driveway was on and let both have an uneventful rest of the night. Instead, he chose to do the worst possible thing imaginable to all of them for no reason. Compliments to the judge in full for showing no mercy on him.
I was once helping teach my brother in law to drive, and the county road turned into private road. We were trapped until we got to a house. A grumpy old man approached us and complained about a sign, but there was no sign. Besides, the road just turned into a private road. I'm glad we didn't end up in this situation.
God aint that the truth! Dont know whether you will get shot knocking on the wrong house or up a driveway. A few seconds to turn around aint worth your life.
I would never do that because that is very dangerous. I have always managed to either turn around in the street or drive to the end of a cul de sac or intersection to turnaround
About a year ago, there was a minor accident in front of my house. The road is moderately busy and school was letting out of the high school about a half mile down the road. So, to avoid impeding traffic, the cars pulled into my longish, two-car-wide driveway to exchange information and such. I came out of my house to make sure they didn't need anything. They see me and started saying, "I'm so sorry, we'll leave!" I was like, "I'm just making sure no one is hurt. You're fine!" Seeing that one of the cars had a kindergarten-ish-aged passenger that the mother was trying to keep occupied during the long process, I brought out my kids and some sidewalk chalk to play with her. The people acted like I was uncommonly nice and I didn't get it. Apparently, not everyone does that kind of stuff...

“I was raised in a little town of which most of you have never heard. But in the West it is a famous place. It is called Abilene, Kansas. We had as our marshal for a long time a man named Wild Bill Hickok. Now that town had a code, and I was raised as a boy to prize that code. “It was: meet anyone face to face with whom you disagree. You could not sneak up on him from behind, or do any damage to him, without suffering the penalty of an outraged citizenry. If you met him face to face and took the same risks he did, you could get away with almost anything, as long as the bullet was in the front.” Dwight Eisenhower, November 23, 1953 Shooting a retreating, unarmed young woman in the back is not a great American value from a bygone era. He had the option of firing his warning shot up into the air. He had the option of talking to them to determine their intent. He had the option to consider whether there was any group of people who knew him who would feel it necessary to attack him as a gang. He did none of these things
Warning shots are illegal in nearly every state. I think some states don’t have the law directly but generally speaking a warning shot of any kind is illegal.
Warning shots are stupid, even if you fire into the ground and "know" there is zero risk of rickashay or fragmentations. For one, every round counts in a fight, so you don't want to waste them. Two, the gunshot will deafen you and those around you, making it harder for everyone (but especially you) to read the situation. Three, like shoving a person, it tends to escalate the situation rather than de-escalate it. Four, it makes you look like the unhinged one and them more justified in attacking you. You should only fire when you are actually protecting your life.
@@-.._.-_...-_.._-..__..._.-.-.- Actually, they have a deterrent value and can prevent unnecessary escalation especially when the nature of the interaction is unclear. @@-.._.-_...-_.._-..__..._.-.-.- Still, the decision alludes to the fact you must make reasonable efforts to determine intent and to deter an attack after those efforts have clarified that you are under a life-threatening attack. Now I am speaking from a Canadian perspective where the standard is clarified by recent cases suggesting that You call the police first, you must go to your gun safe unlock it, remove your weapon, remove your ammunition from a separate locked safe and then load the weapon and finally go to your door and determine threat level. You are not allowed by law to keep a loaded weapon at your side. All weapons are expected to be kept in their safe, always unloaded.

It's very simple how someone can act like that. I'm not stating anything about this case but just an example. Say you have someone who has been overseas, fighting for our country. The guy has multiple deployments under his belt and recieved a debriefing about how the enemy put a bounty on his head. Then look at our open borders and all the cyber attacks to get personal information. The paranoia that guy must face must be great. Hopefully the guy remembers to get positive identification before administering lethal force. The guy in this case shot at a vehicle leaving his property and has been convicted accordingly. But I'll ask this question. If the guy had a sign that said no trespassing and violators will be shot. Would he have been justified?
The media portrayed that story as if the White guys simply found a Black guy, chased after him and shot him in the back. I was shocked until I saw a podcast that actually showed the video. The so called victim was leaving a house that was still being constructed and had been burglarized before. After they saw the man leave the house they followed him and demanded, at gun point, he wait for the police. Although, this is not something I would have done, I was surprised to see what had unfolded. As the White guys were trying to get him to wait for the police, the Black guy walks towards the man with the rifle and begins to punch him in the face while trying to take his gun. It was only then that he was shot. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have been punished but I certainly would not have found them guilty of murder if I were on the jury.

"sorry wrong house ..be safe" is exactly how the scenario would've played out in every other western, civilized country.
You wanna turn around!?!? I'll tell you where to turn around! I'll show u! (it's right over there. now GIT!) lol

A gun, nothing. He looks about 65, and he just got handed a thirty something year prison sentence. Nothing he ever "owns" is going to so much as have a sharp edge on it again. Or be more than like six feet from him.
crazy he thinks its a joke for now
This guy is going to learn what stand your ground really means when he's being force-fed cellmate meat.
He's gonna toss salads.
He might get Ben Dover for a cellmate.
He will probably get his share of cheese filled sausages ?
This is hands down the best internet comment ever! 😂😂😂😂
No convicts want and old man ,
My friend's car broke down in front of this guy's house. He called his dad for help and we had the hood up so he could check the fluids and maybe figure out what the problem was.
The guy came out of his house yelling about how we needed to get back into the car and leave. Was the longest 20 minutes waiting for his dad to come tow the car. All while the guy yelled about calling the cops and that we needed to get away from his property or else.
Some people are just nuts. A considerate person would have asked if we needed help. Not this guy, how dare we end up parked along side the road in front of his house.
Yep. My girlfriend's car stalled in front of someone's house one time with us both in the car, and some dude immediately came running out of his house with one hand up and a pistol in his other hand. I immediately came out with my hands up and told him we're having car issues and will leave as soon as we can. He said "alright" and went back into his house. People are EXTREMELY unpredictable, especially in the south.

So sorry for the family and loved ones .This has affected me also getting lost recently. I kept telling my mom we will not turn around in any driveway we went on further down the road .Until we came to a business and turned there.
I know what you mean the other day I turned on the wrong street. I was about to turn into a driveway mind you it was in the middle of the day. Nope keep going till you hit the intersection.
I think they thought that it was the correct house.
Great judge & jury, so glad he will spend his last days in prison. My heart hurts for those parents & friends of that beautiful girl who was murderer for doing a u-turn in his driveway.
Judge was so right he has no remorse for what he did & still thinks it was ok what he did.
I hope they get him in prison
Please don’t let anyone bring you down to that level of hate. It’s not good for the soul.
the $375 in surcharges and fees is the real life changer
I love the laugh the courtroom gave when his lawyer said he couldn’t pay it right now
He probably thinking he can win an appeal.
Should have asked him what did it cost him

YES absolutely could tell after he paused about the consecutive sentence. Outstanding explanation as to the complete sentencing from a judge!!!
He still remains without any remorse 🙄🤨🤡
he may very well be simply a psychopath...incapable of internalizing the opinions of others.
And many of them across the world are in front of the bars instead of behind them!!
How in the world do you know?
I can’t even imagine her family’s anger? I will keep them in my heart and prayers. This judge leveled him with his words!
I have a neighbor that’s very hostile to most people being anywhere near his property so he’s the reason I would avoid using anyone’s driveway to turnaround. This situation is just so messed up
There is a guy like that who lives near me. But he also has signs out the butt all over his driveway entrance. As cleanly and clearly marked as you can get.
If you met him face to face and took the same risks he did, you could get away with almost anything, as long as the bullet was in the front.”
Dwight Eisenhower, November 23, 1953
Shooting a retreating, unarmed young woman in the back is not a great American value from a bygone era. I believe the word for him would have been yellow-bellied. And I’m sure Marshall Hickok would have dealt with this fellow appropriately.
Yeah he would have arrested him and put him on trial, exactly the same as happened
I agree...he would be labeled and coward and probably hung back then. The romanticism of the wild west has ppl thinking it was literally lawless which is not true
Ironic given how Hicock met his demise.
@@garymitchell5899 Hickok would certainly not have shot him in the back.
@@nsnopper No, because Hickock was a law officer. The criminal shot her, and Hickock would have arrested him. Please try and keep up.
In this case, it is not clear whether the people approaching were intent on a lethal confrontation or whether they were just lost. It tells the other party that you are in a defensive stance and prepared to escalate if it becomes clear that they intend to commit to an attack. It's better than shooting first to kill and spend twenty-five years in jail later!
@@PWingert1966 I get the theory, but that generally isn't what we see in reality.
@@-.._.-_...-_.._-..__..._.-.-.- Still, the decision alludes to the fact you must make reasonable efforts to determine intent and to deter an attack after those efforts have clarified that you are under a life-threatening attack. The judgement makes it clear that this person failed to make reasonable efforts to determine the intent of the persons entering his property and instead decided to shoot first and think that just because they were on his property he had the unassailable right to exercise lethal force without determine intent and threat or risk level to property and personal safety and as part of that assessment deter further attack in a non-lethal way.
This judge is outstanding. I was so moved by what he said and how he very clearly didn’t mince words.
Justice Served.
What a great judge ❤
I quit doing Amazon flex because of cases like this. When you have to use your personal vehicle, people don’t believe you’re bringing them their packages. I had too many scary encounters and felt like it was only a matter of time before someone _really_ overreacted
Same, drove for Amazon and we had to use the small Uhaul box trucks for about 6 months before we got the amazon vans. Had several scary instances myself including one where I pulled out of this guys driveway as he was about to pull in and he chased me in his truck until he got ahead of me then did a deadstop and got out acting like he was about to attack. Seen my amazon clothes and ended up apologizing, but said if he had his piece on him it might've turned ugly because apparently he had just been robbed a few days prior.
Wow what a paranoid baby lol.
@@DividendFiend hahaha yeah it wasn’t paranoia. Most drivers I know have horror stories, I’ve had customers threaten to do all kinds of ish, it’s not worth the $20-50 profit haha

I do giggle work on the side.
Every night I’m walking up to houses, up driveways, pulling down side and private roads… and quite often I need to check a few residences before I find the right one.
I live and mostly work in the city, and if there’s anyone I’m worried about in the city at night, it’s people like that guy.
Couldn't be content with just shouting "get off my lawn", had to live out his fantasy of shooting an intruder.
This is crazy. People have pulled in my drive way often. The first thing I do is observe what they’re doing. After they complete the u turn I continue with my day as they go about their way. That simple. Look at how innocent this young lady looks. I’m furious!!! Could have been 1 of my daughters. Coward! Afraid of the world. You’ll receive true justice in your final resting place. God bless the victims’ families and Kaylin Gillis’ soul ❤
Thank you for this sentence. Absolutely Fitting. Condolences to Everyone who had to come in contact with this belly crawler.
I hate how it’s impossible to make a sociopath feel any remorse, in his head he probably still thinks he was in the right. Luckily for the rest of society he’s really bad at hiding his sociopathy in court, he made no attempts to feign remorse.
Why are so many people with guns so scared of life?
ask the police
Because home invasions really do happen. Just because this idiot screwed up doesn’t mean there aren’t just reasons to own a gun to protect yourself from real harm.
Whole lotta reasons & combos of factors at play for each individual but they def all share the histrionic mindset/behavior that overrules common sense. They tick like time-bombs.
I really don’t think he was scared. This fool wanted to try out his weapon, thinking he’d have an excuse if the police show up. There’s lots of em out there.
@@andredavis69 OH no! Are you oppressed?😂😂😂😂
That sends a message!
This fool thought he was going to get away with Murder?
Strong move !
This guy is insane! How could he act like that in this modern world? Hopefully he will NEVER get out! Thanks judge!
Is it me, or doesn't this defendant look just like one of the guys that shot Ahmaud Arbery ?
They all look the same to me, these paranoid old dudes who think a gun makes them right.
YES!!! The one that followed in his truck videotaping with his phone.
@@cynthiamartin2197 I wonder how the Aubrey killers are doing
Lived in the country my whole life. We helped people when they got lost or turned around in the wrong driveway. It was simple.

Someone who has spent hours each day watching conservative media convince them that "they" are coming for them. "They", the faceless hoard of people who hate Christmas trees and straight marriage. These people have had Fox and Newsmax tell them that things are falling apart, that Joe Biden is giving the country away to China, and the only way you are going to survive is to stay armed and shoot at the first thing that moves on your property.
The old voters on the right are victims of 8 years of propaganda starting heavily in 2016, which villainized everyone that wasn't one of them. This guy is a victim of that propaganda, though I can't seem to find any sympathy for him.
All he had to do was go inside lock the door, this young girl would still be alive, and he’d still be watching TV without wearing prison orange the rest of his life
It probably will not be a very long life either. He doesn't seem like he handles his fear well. Jail won't be easy for him.
I had something called a life review during a near death experience at 19. Tbh, I do not envy the one Kevin will have at the end.
Is that when your entire past flashes through your mind? That’s real?
He just perfectly put into words *everything* that I was thinking. Michelini for NY Governor!!!!
A lot of people talking about how this man must be afraid of his own shadow... I disagree.
This man doesn't have the emotional capacity to feel fear. I've known people like this. He's lived his whole life wishing he could have the experience of killing someone, but knowing he'd never get away with it.
He thought he saw his chance to have that experience and get away with it, so he took it. Simple as that. He wasn't acting out of fear for his life, he was acting out of premeditated malice presented with an unexpected opportunity to express itself.
My house was located very close to the main street. I had more cars driving into my driveway would reach 5 to 6 cars a day. Sometimes theyvwould just turn in to adjust their GPS and sit there for a few minutes. People just need to be more understanding and civilized. No more driveway for you, Mr.
Actually, your buttwhole is going to be a driveway where you are going.
I like how you spelled “buttwhole”. It gives it a whole new meaning.
Same here. Idc.
When I was younger. I did food deliveries.. that was without gps and google maps. Imagine how many times i went to the wrong house. This old man is sick...
There was once a delivery driver who ended up on the other side of the river from us on a ranch like 7-8 miles from the nearest bridge, using the early civilian gps units. On a more serious note he is very sick, I once ended up, accidentally, on a long private driveway and would have been at this man's mercy if the owner were him.
I 100% concur with the judge that Monahan"s overall demeanor and lack of remorse pose a future risk that he could easily repeat this again without a second thought.
Every second he spends in prison he deserves,he is a thoroughly despicable individual
