Oh yes, there's soooo many options! Of course, you can always stir flavors and spices into the oatmeal while it's cooking, rather than top at the end. It's up to you - that's the beauty of it! So are you more of a sweet or savory person? What are your favorite flavors? Happy Sunday! xo - Lisa
Love this Thanks
I’m classic and love the “strawberries and cream” flavour. My daughter and I have oatmeal for breakfast every morning and I love to add LSA (linseed, sunflower seed and almond that’s ground up) onto our oatmeal for the omega 3 and some extra protein. I’m intrigued by your savoury oatmeal idea - I’ve never tried it before so I’m not sure how I feel about it...but your recipes are always amazing so I’ll see what it’s like
My favourite is to serve oatmeal with grated parmesan or any hard cheese really. I love melted cheese :).
@@reti2309 wow, such an interesting idea. I’m going to give the cheeses a go as I’ve never tried savoury oatmeal, but I love cheese! 🧀
I make mine savory with sun dried tomatoes, salt, pepper, turmeric (or curry powder) and nutritional yeast. Especially good with the steel cut oats. Thank you for all the recipes!
I have been making savory oatmeal for years! My favorite topping is:
Crumbled feta cheese
Diced avocado
Halved cherry tomatoes
1 teaspoonful olive oil
Black pepper
Chili flakes
I've been doing the same! Looooove the saltiness from the feta. If you'd like, try sprinkling some onion powder on the cherry tomatoes...that flavour combo is just *chef's kiss*
Me, too! I prefer savory over sweet oatmeal and make my oatmeal using broth. I add ground flax and chia seeds in the pot and, when it's done, add it to a bowl of sauteed kale or spinach, mushrooms, onions or whatever veg is available and sounds good. Being plant-based, for protein I'll add sunflower or pumpkin seeds, almonds or some other nut, cooked lentils or quinoa - again, whatever is available and sounds tasty. Like Lisa said, it's a canvas. Some Everything Seasoning and/or a splash of soy sauce to finish and I'm a happy camper. Before I went plant-based, the protein I loved best with my savory oats was tuna or sardines. I know, it sounds gross, but the flavors and textures were really satisfying.
@@Adanexha I will definitely try this!
@@cherylkessler9300 I have never thought of adding fish but I love both tuna and sardines and anchovies. I will definitely try them!
Ah! Feta is one of the first things that came to my mind, then Fried large slices of tomato mmmm... Cherry tomatoes, arugula, blackpepper and a sprinkle of oil is another nice option.

Thank you!!🥺
Thank you lifesaver ✨✨
Becca for the win
I have to try more of THIS!!
Thank you.
I wish I see this when my father was still alive. He has heart disease, so oatmeal & fruits are good for him. I would make him this delicious oatmeals if ever (minus the sweet recipe).
I love you dad. I miss you 😔
im so sorry im sure he had a great life!😕
I'm so sorry. I hope you're doing well ♥️🥺
i’m so sorry.🥺

Great minds think alike 😊 Hope you enjoy these flavors!
I was thinking the exact same thing when i saw this video!!
lmao and me in durban😭
Hahaha same here
Hey fellow south African I'm south African to 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦😁😁😁

The way I relate to this so much. She seriously gives off really good vibes ❤
Wow...I’d never thought about savory oatmeal 😯. Can’t wait to try the option with the egg & garlic spinach 😀
Hope you love that variation Erica!
Me too!
Really excited!
Yeah it’s very interesting.. 😵
@Mahima Bhat I hope you like it! I’ve never eaten savory oats but I want to try as well
As an Indian, I eat savory oatmeal whenever I have them cause otherwise I can't handle the taste of oatmeal 😖
Thanks for this!!! I’ve been eating the same stale oatmeal for the last 2 months and I was really starting to get bored... I tried savory oatmeal for the first time today and I’m very satisfied with that spinach egg avocado mix. Thank you!!
I love overcooked watery rolled oats. 😁 The taste remind me of white corn. 😊
But whatever kind of oats you like the most, its a great move to add oatmeal to your diet. Happy New Year to everyone !
I’ve been hesitant to try a savory oatmeal, but it’s definitely happening! My go-to in the fall is apple cinnamon. I dice up an apple and put half in the pot when I’m cooking the oatmeal, and the other half on top so you get all the apple textures and flavors. So yummy!!!
I'm so glad you said this, my first thought for the apple recipe shown was to add the apple to the cooking pot. I bet it's amazing!
Lisa that raspberry chia see jam is a game changer!! So delicious! My husband and I made our bowls with the oatmeal, jam and almond milk yogurt and it was AMAZING! Thank you for this amazing video!! 😍
I love how relaxing your videos are. The quality is top notch. 🧡
I love oatmeal and definitely you've given me some things to think about to keep it fresh. Thanks.
Yes, there’re many options. I’m definitely going to try the avocado and soft egg topping. What a wonderful way to start the day! 🌞😃
Oh this video is exactly what I needed. I eat oatmeal to lower my high cholesterol and it was starting to get boring until bam.
I am so glad you are including savory ideas. I’m not really into sweet breakfasts, except for the occasional smoothie. Yay!
Definitely going to try savory oatmeal as I’ve eaten the sweet ones over and over. The one with the soft egg looks scrumptious.
Very inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing! I usually do the sweet versions with fruit and berries, but will definitely try the savory once too!
I'm always for the savory flavor so I like these two options a lot. Generally I love your recipes.
I love peaches with a dollop of plain or vanilla yogurt in my oats. 😋
as a person who's always only had cinnamon on my oatmeal... mind blown!! 💫😆
I know! 😂
Thanks for sharing !! You’re making a plant-based diet easier for everyone. I can't wait to try these recipes with true elements steel-cut oats.
All of those look so good! I used to eat oatmeal every morning. My favorite way to eat it was with a hardboiled egg chopped up on the bottom of the bowl sprinkled with salt and pepper, then the hot rolled oats on top with a bit of honey. Mixed all up, the sweet, salty, creamy combo is delicious!
I had never thought of savoury oatmeal, worth a try!
My dad has been nagging at me to eat oatmeal in the morning when i’m not in the mood for breakfast food, and I respond with “I don’t like sweet in the morning!” and he assured me it could be savory, to which I replied “no way”. 20 mins later I see your video 😂😂😂
I do spinach with cheddar cheese... so yummy😁
Haha! What a coincidence! Can't wait for you to try these savory flavors 😊
@@Downshiftology Thanks! Definitely going to give them a try!
Interesting. I have a hard time with sweet stuff in the morning as well. For example, I love fruit but I can't eat it in the morning. My stomach rebels.
@@Scrappicat Same! I just feel tired or gross. I can sometimes eat a small bit of fruit in the morning if my main meal is savory 😂
Thank you for these great ideas! My favorite here is the banana, blueberries & nut butter one! They all looked great!!
I recently had to change up my diet and I love oatmeal so I'm really excited to try out these foods! Thank you for these helpful videos! :)
ooo I MUST try the raspberry chia seed jam on top of my oatmeal!!! Great recommendation. Thanks!
Yes! It's so delicious and adds a fresh sweetness to it 😊
My daughter made some, and it's yummy! Quick and easy recipe!
I like how you showed the variety of oats & spectrum of sweet to savory options for toppings. I enjoy oats everyday for breakfast, I like to add flax meal & some hemp hearts & whatever fruits I have on hand💕 I also do a water/almond milk combo currently going crazy w/ pumpkin pie spice❤️🤙 Nice video!
Lisa always whipping up a sweet and savory option. I love it 🤩
Those look so good! Thank you for the inspiration. Definitely trying some of these recipes!
All of these oatmeal ideas look absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to try them !! I also really loved how you explained the proportions w the water and the oatmeal ... I actually never knew that ahah ! Your videos are so wonderful and I just can’t wait to try these different oatmeal ideas 😋 .
I know it may sound silly, but I had never even considered add anything savory/not sweet to my oatmeal. Thanks a lot for teching so much!
This is so perfect for a Ramadan morning meal 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
This is one of the best food videos have ever watched in my life ... I am ready to eat nothing but your recipes for a whole week ... I have full faith in the recipes...
Yes, savoury oatmeal is so fun! I love these combos you made. I found split pea flakes and I cook them in broth and mix in some butter and it is the most divine savoury oatmeal. I will definitely try the pico de gallo version!
That sounds so delicious! Can't wait to hear how you like the pico de gallo one 😊
Thanks Lisa for those amazing recipes that respect our health . My favorite one is the blueberry banana almond👌 Greetings from Paris ❤
You’re a genius. I never even considered savory oatmeal before. But your blank slate comparison to toast was spot on and made me realize. Like it seems so obvious now that you said it but I just don’t think anyone ever said it before? Glad you said it!
Oh my gosh. Thank you so much! I never thought of savory when thinking oatmeal, but will definitely give this a try.
Yes please on the raspberry chia seed jam oatmeal! Will try that one this weekend. Your video came out just in time, I was getting burned out on my usual standbys! Thx Lisa! 😋
Savory oatmeal has never come across my mind ever and I’m a savory person. Will def try it
I've got like 5 store bought un-opened containers of oats bc I don't really like oats but this is in fact a new perspective and I very much needed it, it all looks so good, thank you 💓
I love my morning porridge and you have inspired me with some new ideas. Thank you!
Whether it's steel-cut or rolled, quick-cooking or instant, oatmeal is good for you👍
Oatmeal is definitely a delicious and healthy breakfast option 😊
Amen 100%agree
No, it's not.
It is just energy, nothing else.
Stop spreading this factually untrue nonsense.
@@PrimeMatt What exactly is nonsense about it? Do enlighten us.
@@PrimeMatt no. it is good for your health.
love it! you always take everything up a notch and show variations I love that about you! you are the best
Thanks so much Edwina! 😊 Hope you love these flavor variations.
you just blew my mind with the egg and oatmeal! that toast and oatmeal comparison just makes sense.
Love the savory version. Never been much of a sweet breakfast eater. Thank you!
I'm not a fan of sweets but love savory. So, I cook my oats in a vegetable broth, add some lemon juice, garlic and ginger for extra flavor, then add some frozen chopped kale. If I need some extra protein, I add some canellini or garbanzo beans. I use a microwave rice cooker to avoid the mess that sometimes happens when cooking oats in the microwave. It works great. Oats are like the rice in rice pilaf - you can add anything to it. Thanks for the additional savory suggestions!
Love these never-seen-before oatmeal options. Thank you for your always enlightening videos! 💡🍓🍎🥥🍌🥜🥬🍳🥑🍅🌶🙀😻
Of course! Hope you enjoy all these flavor variations Maureen ❤️
I'm Scottish and my family only eat porridge with salt, so that it is savoury. But I love sweet toppings the most. Some great ideas here and I can't wait to try them out.
Thank you. I needed more ideas for toppings! I will be trying them all! Especially avocado and egg!🎉🎉
These all look incredible. I’m doing a Whole30 right now but I’m definitely trying those savory versions when I’m done. 👍
These look delicious and so gut friendly. Can’t wait to try these. Thank you!
I hope they're gut friendly since I have IBS :/
Thank you for sharing, I made oatmeal pudding last week and it was fab. Mash two bananas, add 1 cup of oats and 1/2 cup of flax seeds, 2 eggs (beaten) & 1 cup of milk (any kind), mix and bake with raspberries sprinkled on the top. Serve with yoghurt, flaked almonds and more raspberries. I hope you try it.
It’s flavorful and comforting. Thank you Lisa
I also used to cook an apple with cinnamon with my oatmeals and it tastes like a real hot apple pie❤️
Yummy!!!
When I cook my oatmeal I usually add dried fruit of some kind. Lately it's been a mix of dried fruits and nuts. Yummy
I appreciate how you just didn't show the toppings but explain the ideal type of oats and several methods to cook it. Thanks for your dedication, I loved this video
I love your channel and your videos. The editing is so clean and fresh ! It's your channel that made me want to start my own !Thank you Lisa.

I actually just recently learned that people eat sweet oatmeal as in my country we usually have it as savoury one. Mushroom, bacon and onions one is my all time favourite.
Yeah in USA it’s usually sweet. I’ve been looking for more savory recipes to try.
That sounds so good 🤤
I'm Dominican and Puerto Rican, we only ever have it sweet. In Puerto Rico it's a thicker consistency with fresh fruit and usually always with raisins and in the Dominican its blended for a smooth consistency and sometimes chocolate syrup is added as a weekend treat for the kids. Adults have it plain with a bit of sugar or honey
im going to try savoury oats sounds so delicious
Savory oatmeal!
I never thought about that. I’ll have to try it! ❤️
It can't get any better, thanks for this video ❤
I love her recipes they look high end and taste amazing!! She literally knows how to make every damn thing! And she also has a lot of knowledge about food therefore making her videos very informative!
I always just pour boiling water over my oats and let it soak a little before I add my topping because then I don't have to clean an extra pod and instead can enjoy it right out of the bowl. My favorite combo is adding a splash of almond milk, some almond butter and chia seeds to make it creamy and then top it with diced peaches, fresh blueberries and of course loads of cinnamon.
I have only ever used sweet toppings but I am excited to try out one of your savory versions soon :)
I make it the same way. It's healthier option and faster actually 😁
That’s a great tip! Think I’ll give that a go - I love reducing the washing 😊
If you let it soak overnight it becomes more digestible and you don't have to cook it either!
Do you use the same ratio of liquid when you do it like that?
You are my food mind reader! I have been craving oatmeal now that its getting cold where I live. Im so excited to try these!! Thank you Lisa!!
Glad this came just in time! 😊 Hope you enjoy these flavor variations.
Thank you so much for being super informative about the oatmeal prep! I'm still learning the very basics of healthy eating, and a lot of videos I've watched just skip over prepping the actual food, so I highly appreicate this!!!
I'm glad you come across this video then! 😊 Hope these tips and tricks help and that you can enjoy these topping variations.
I never knew oatmeal can be savory, I've always eaten mine sweet. I'll have to try these recipes they all look delicious
God knows I really needed this video. But I'm freaking out to try this savory. But Thank You. 😍
The savory options were so delicious! It's almost like eating bread 😊
@@Downshiftology wow! That's an interesting take. Will definitely try
Thanks for the inspiration! :)
My autumn go-to combination is turmeric, cinnamon and ginger spices with plums and half banana. Cooked in rice milk and served with 1 tsp of each - flax seeds, chia seeds and hemp seeds. It's like a medicine in a bowl. :)
Love that spice combination 😊 Sounds so delicious and nourishing.
This is my first time seeing eggs in oatmeal. This is just perfect for me. Thank you so very much❤
Perfect! All the flavours are very interesting! Thank you for sharing!
This is not ...cooking...it's just ....Pure Art !
Thank you!
Wow, thank you! 😊

Really cool with the non-fruit versions here, super eager to try the avocado and other ones 🥑😋
Recently diagnosed with high cholesterol and was looking for some healthy ways to cook oats and I found your video!! Thanks for sharing your recipes.
Your Savory Oatmeal recipes just made my life 10 times better. 😆 Thank you. 👍😁
Omg you are like my food twin. Everything looks so yummy!
I LOVE putting cocoa in my oatmeal, topped with banana, strawberries, coconut - the possibilities are endless.
I also soak my oats the night before so the cooking time is quicker (:
Yum! Cocoa is a great option if you're feeling for something chocolatey 😊
Great tip! Also, excellent flavour combo!
I always use blueberries and maybe tbsp of agave but will add some dark choc chips to the mix. Thanks.
Oooh, that sounds tasty!
I need to try all of these combinations... everything looks so goooooood!!
So many great ideas! I want to make all of them but I think I’ll start with the PB&J. Thanks, Lisa.
I like making chai tea and cooking it with oatmeal instead of just plain water sometimes. I've used plain chai, pumpkin spice chai, etc
memento mori
I love oatmeal, I eat it all the time. My favorite way to have is with plain greek yogurt, chia, fresh berries, and almonds. I never knew it can be made savory too. thank you for these tips.
Yes! We definitely need to get in the mindset that oatmeal can be made with savory flavors 😊
Thank you- ☀️Adding ground cinnamon is amazing with the banana oat bowl! ☺️
Love how simple these are!
I was apprehensive about savory oatmeal. I will definitely try it now. Thank you for the wonderful flavor ideas!
It's surprisingly so delicious! 😊
I've been struggling for months on whether I can eat oats if I want to be gluten free. Some say yes, some say no. I'm not celiac. I just wanted to eliminate gluten to see if my congestion goes away. So your video helped me immensely !!! when you mentioned that you're celiac, and can eat oats that are deemed gluten free. I don't necessarily love them boiled, except in "goetta" - (uses steel cut oats , and isn't otherwise healthy because of the pork content), but I love oats in a baked, nut / oat snack combo. Thank you for the ideas of your toppings, on the cooked breakfast oats. They sound delicious!
Polenta would be another option you could try, I think. It's also naturally gluten free.
Absolutely amazing combinations tips. I will try most of these. Thank you.
This is truly adventurous. Oatmeal has many sides. I love them.
I do love savory oatmeal, It is my rice replacement for atleast 3 to 4 meals in a week.
Thank you Lisa for this wonderful suggestions 😘
Oh yum! I’ve never tried savory oatmeal, but I sure will now! I’ll be on the search for some egg free savory options now 🤔🤤
(egg allergy 😭)
All of them!!! I am so excited this channel came up in my feed, now I understand how to cook better foods for my son and I. We both have issues with gluten.
These ideas look so cozy and delightful, can't wait to try them with those toppings!
Mmm I’ll take savory over sweet any day. :) fried egg with seasoned salt and Swiss chard, I always add butter too.
These look great!! I love making overnight oats! And also “banana bread” flavored oatmeal 😁
Pears in oatmeal is my favorite. I put the pear slices in as at cooks and it makes the oatmeal just sweet enough for me.
Woww. Thank you so much for this! I have been regularly using this and this is such a time saver and healthy at the same time
