Yes that was pure WW II with Sisko making a MacArthur-like "I Shall Return" speech to DS9's inhabitants before he beams out to the Defiant. Jadzia telling Worf she will marry him just before they separate to go on different ships. And when O'Brien asks Sisko what they will do when they join up with the Federation Fleet, it is Nog who growls, "make them (the Dominion) wish they never set foot in the Alpha Quadrant!" The whole Dominion War was a fine salute to the Allied peoples and soldiers of WW II.
@@davidallbaugh6858 Here is the thing, the Dominion War was like a World War, except in space, and it is similar to a galactic war. Plus, the factions that participated were the main and largest factions.
4:39 Damar: "Sir, the station's shields are holding. " Weyoun: "Impossible! Federation shields have always proven useless against our weapons." Dukat: "I've found it wise to never underestimate the Federation's technical skill or Captain Sisko's resourcefulness. Damar, bring us around for another pass."
That Dominion bad guy music around 02.40 is epic! And the final music along with the scene of the federation fleet makes it one of the best Star Trek season endings for me!
TOS and TNG were the perfect utopian version of our future. Where everyone is perfect. DS9 and VOY added the element of imperfections in characters, and that's why I like them.
TNG's characters were not that perfect either. The Borg taught the Federation and Picard a thing or two (see Family episode). Seasons 6 and 7 showed the complications with the Maquis and the Cardassians. The Wounded episode also showed a Federation crew going vengeance mode. Let's not forget the Drumhead episode or the Pegasus either. There are also many examples...
" I will not allow any more dominion reinforcments through the wormhole" Weyoun, "YOU...will not allow!" Sisko "You heard me.." i have used that attitude when dealing with difficult family, co-workers. Very powerful writing!
Kira: Captain. As a Major of the Bajoran Militia, I must officially protest Starfleet's refusal to hand this station to my government. Sisko: Your protest is duly noted. Kira: Good. Now that that's out of the way... Kira Nerys, reporting for duty.
The wording is so very specific: she 'must' protest (not because she wants to, but because it's protocol)...and once she's got that done, she doesn't care what the Provisional Government has to say.
@@hobomike6935 Protested? I don't think so. I think "Season one Kira" would have tried to fight off *both sides!* Even if she had to do it, all by herself. 🏋️♀️
I thoroughly LOVE the recurring motif for the dominion forces in this episode, very powerful and imposing and PERFECTLY complementing the site of dominion ships descending upon the station or troops pouring through the airlock into DS9.
7:15 “Sir, the minefield-“ “I have eyes, Damar.” “This isn’t going the way I planned.” “It’s a minor setback, Weyoun. Once we’ve taken the station, we’ll be able to dismantle the minefield without interference.” “Let’s both hope your confidence is justified.” “Damar, signal the reserves to prepare for a final assault.”
The back and forth between Weyoun and Dukat shows the difference between the overall Commander of the Dominion War effort, Weyoun, with the confidence in his plans and that of the tactical battlefield commander, Dukat, who knows that things in war seldom go as planned.
7:40 "The Dominion fleet is regrouping, and I'm detecting another wave of enemy ships entering Bajoran space." "What are your orders Captain?" "We've done all we can here. Notify all remaining starfleet personnel. We're evacuating the station."
11:15, Kira comes up from the turbolft to make a protest to Sisko about not letting her people get the station then says reporting for duty as Sisko smiles and nods at his first officer.
Pure World War II episode. Ftom Rom giving a Casablanca type speech to his new bride on why she needs to go to Bajor for the time being to Sisko giving a MacArthur like "I Shall Return" speech at Quarks to Jadzia telling Word she will marry him once the War is over to Sisko leaving his baseball behind.
Kira: "Good. That's the last message this station will be sending out for a while; Computer: initiate Program Sisko 197." And so the Ensign Killer 300 was weaponized XD
