Lock screen notifications: Settings>Notifications>Show on the Lock Screen>Notification Preferred. Maybe this was a Nougat update.
Straight to the point review, well done. I have a few questions:
1. Have you tried the tethering option on the Axon 7?
2. What carrier or carrier's are you using to conduct call quality test?
3. How good is the ram management?
4. How many applications have you opened consecutively and then gone back to?
5. How would you describe the transition from application to application? (Fast, decent, slow)
Tethering yes, I did so with T-Mobile and AT&T works fine. I am using T-Mobile and AT&T, I also tested a Verizon sim and that is discussed in my Q&A video...it did not go well. RAM management is good but not any better than OnePlus 3 or S7 Edge, namely it doesn't hold large apps like games memory for a long time. You can probably do about 10 apps consecutively without having the first one reopen. If you're just using the phone for daily task the transition is very smooth, if you add some intense games it slows down a bit more than OnePlus 3 or S7 Edge, but nothing terrible.

The last 2 pre-installed languages packs are Chinese(Simplified) & Chinese(Traditional) respectively.
Got my axon 7 in and loving it, basically same experience as s7 but way better audio (roommate and coworkers have s7).But one of my FAVORITE things is how the lock screen is clean until you press the bell, my girlfriend absolutely loves that feature (she hates clutter). But they should make an option so that you can toggle if you don't like the stock setup, but totally works for me.
+SubLimation7 yeah it's nice for privacy just some situations like the gym where i want to quickly see notifications and not have to tap anything. I'm sure they'll address it in an update.

could you do some low light night time photos? low light performance seems to be the most criticized aspect of this phone. Also, I would be curious if reducing megapixels increases or decreases low light performance.

I own a ZTE AXON 7 and purchased the international model in Beijing where I live. What I see there is NOT the original ZTE software. It seems you installed the Google Launcher.
+George Karaolis did it ever occur to you the software may be different on the north American and Chinese models? I am not running any customized launcher. This is the stock software with no customization for the version sold in US.
+Jeff Springer Yes, correct, but I couldnt have known this right.? Nevertheless what ZTE calls international model in Beijing (for all of us foreigners) comes with the real ZTE software which is quite different from what you have there. Therefore its good to make a note of it since you have US people ordering ZTE from either amazon.cn Or Aliexpress. They would be seeing a different screen so they should make a note of it. Lets not forget that youtube channels are viewed in all over the world.

I like the capacitive keys! On screen keys are occupying part of the screen. Kinda annoying.
Can you make the home screen have 5 icons across and 5 up? 5 rows of icons and 5 columns of icons that is.

the Chinese, 1st is simplified or modern, 2nd option is older Chinese. Both are essentially the same in meaning, grammar and pronunciation, just the older Chinese has very elaborated strokes and often more strokes than the simplified ones.

Install the Google Pxel Launcher, the Google Assistant and the Google Pixel XL factory image for a better software experience. Make a video about rooting it, and making the software like the Google Pixel XL.
How about a look at the stock music player and the DAC settings? That's the area I've head most about in terms of negatives, since to use the DAC, one must use the stock music player, which apparently sucks. I'd like to see your thoughts on it.

Personally, I'm still partial to OnePlus 3, because I value software over hardware. The OnePlus 3 has unlockable bootloader and developer support, along with the better software out of the box. The Axon 7 has better hardware so if ZTE improves that and gives a bootloader unlock option I'd probably lean back that way. I dropped a Q&A video yesterday that discusses some of the differences between the two phones if you want to check it out. I'll have a full comparison of the two up sometime tonight.

So pretty much download another home and lock screen like most phones.
The only things I'm really worried about are settings and things like notification tray, camera, etc that can't be easily changed.
+Eileen the Crow well I don't usually download a third party launch screen, you can but I'd prefer to not have to. I usually use a 3rd party launcher but the one on here isn't unusable.
+Jeff Springer I've been using Next lock screen which is pretty cool with the bing wallpapers changing daily and custom launch bar at the bottom
What are the gestures available, does it have double tap to wake, And any screen off gestures, How many hours did u play pokemon go, Can the background transparency and colour of the app drawer be changed. Is it possible to have folders in the app drawer, Were there any lags encountered when playing any heavy game like Asphalt, How fast is the fingerprint sensor compared to oneplus 3, How many apps can the ram hold in the background. Does it have double push of the lock button to launch camera, any screen off notifications(ambient display)
The gestures were covered in the video. No you cannot change app drawer without a custom launcher. Fingerprint scanner is not nearly as good as OnePlus 3 in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm definitely interested in that as well. L BS did video vs the OP3 and the Axon underscored it a little bit, but started to throttle pretty bad and dropped a lot more points per benchmark run than the OP3, though it never dipped below about 90k or so and started around 130 to 140k or so in Antutu which is excellent.
I see you have have T-Mobile... were you able to have Wi-Fi calling and how is the data connectivity and reception
What I would like to see is when sim 1 is on phone and text messaging and sim 2 on dats only. What happens to network on both? Is one on 2g? Or both will remain on lte

I'd rather get a oneplus 3 because the software is so much better IMO. on the oneplus 3 you can also easily install a custom ROM as well if you get tired of the stock one. the axon 7 doesn't have any custom Roms out yet while the oneplus 3 got CyanogenMod at launch. the axon 7 does have much better audio and screen but software is more important IMO
the phone was out barely 2 days ago. Of course there aren't going to be a million custom ROMs yet. And ZTE seem to be building a good, loyal fan base at the moment. Future looks good for them

+Issac Blackheart probably get the full review out after I've had it about a week, like to be fair to the phone. The battery life is OK but as i showed on the video the stock power manager doesn't show screen on time so I installed a 3rd party app to measure it, if I had to guess I'd say about 4 hours SOT on my first charge cycle.

+Dean Liensdorf I did some extensive testing last night with my Verizon sim. The phone cab get LTE but it is very unstable. You will get a roaming notification on the phone and after about an hour the LTE cuts out and you need to reboot to get it back, seems to be because Verizon hasn't certified it yet for use on their network. I would not recommend Verizon at this point it's too unreliable

how is the screen clarity when you used it outside during daylight? I'm coming from the LG g4 and I thought that was good on full brightness during daylight. thanks
This screen is AMOLED so it's very bright outside, good viewing angles. Not quite as good as the AMOLED on S7 Edge but it's definitely better than any LCD panel I've seen.
I'm on T-Mobile as well. Seems like my signal strength is weaker than my S6. Have you noticed the same thing?

+JokersJist I don't ever get good T-Mobile bands in my condo, it's under a 5 story car garage. It gets band 12 and fast LTE everywhere in metro Phoenix.

VOLTE is available if you live somewhere with band 12. WiFi calling is not currently supported but supposedly an update is coming soon to change that...we'll see.

Axon 7 is a beast. With some updates it could be an amazing flagship for that price. Right now I think the software optimization on the op3 is much better. I also think it's cleaner. I personally would wait to see if some updates or custom roms are available in the near future for axon 7. If that happen I think the Axon 7 would be the better phone.

+Cole Hintermeister it has 2.5D glass but only the 6GB version of the phone has "force touch" sadly that phone is only being sold in China.
Bah, force touch is complicated anyway. In my opinion, iPhones have lost what once made them so great. iPhones were great partly because everything was face value, and it worked right out of the box. No complicated menus, no digging for settings, no force touch, etc. At the same time, Android is starting to lose what made them so great on the opposite end. They're trading in customization and small things for ease and "everyday user" accessibility.
To H*ll with force touch, I just can't get over the iPhone display with black bezels and 2.5D glass. Haha.
i have the moto x pure edition and love it but would like to know if its worth the upgrade??
3 main upgrades i see and like are AMOLED screen, aluminum build and find fingerprint scanner...... might've answered my own question there haha
I think the speakers are just as good, maybe better. The software may be a bit of a downgrade but everything else is an upgrade. You can probably sell the Moto X Pure for a few hundred so it won't cost too much to upgrade, I'd say go for it!

Yep, and google has been cracking the whip on oems to get stuff out faster this year, so if it was ever going to be faster... that time is now! Also luckily, they've been updating almost everything through services so main version number isn't all that much of a thing to lust after anymore aside from new features but even then those can often be ported to apk files and installed on other versions.
Been waiting on this... Did they leave the system UI tuner intact?

Oh and on a call does the speakerphone work well? My z3 speakers and mic for some reason wimp out during calls but work great when playing music and talking normally.

you can get a third party app for displaying lock screen notifications, but yeah I agree, it's a major software downside

would you recommend this phone over a cracked galaxy s7 edge ? I have a cracked one and it costs $425 to fix the cracked screen and was thinking of getting this instead

I really hate having a cracked screen on a phone so I'd definitely either get it fixed or picking up a new phone. I mean it really is a lot to fix the screen but this phone is the same price. If you don't like Touchwiz maybe it's worth it to try something new.

+Noah Francis Battey life is about 4 hours SOT in first 2 cycles. Speakers are much better on Axon. I think the S7 Edge wins in most other categories but it's a more expensive phone after all.

This phone is dope but the biggest issues it has is software. Maybe if zte made the bootloader not void the warranty (what is this 2012?) i could easily fix all of that. Its camera is pretty crap too but again the software is in part to blame (the camera itself is not that good either).

yes, if the developer allows. Whether or not an app can reside on external storage is up to the developer. Or are you asking about adoptable storage?

Yeah you can use adoptable storage, but it is also limited to apps which developers allow to reside on SD...adoptable storage is pretty bad on Android still, I learned that with the S7 Edge. Google needs to overhaul it.
