As much as I love the OP3.. I would totally go for the Axon 7.. It's overall the better choice in my opinion.. However it just comes down to personal preference and what's your device is used for.. Expandable storage over ram.. screen resolution.. battery life including camera are what matters most to me...And axon 7 definitely hits the mark ..
Forgot to mention front facing speakers...😍😍😍
And also axon 7 offers dual sim support
+stanley mumo right can't forget about that
Check out other reviews, most reviews have the OP3 as having the better camera and having better battery life.
mmlzz805 Yes i agree, but zte axon 7 has dual front facing speaksrs, QHD display, dual sim support, sd card support and its VR will be daydream compatible. Keep in mind the camera will receive software updates to make it better and the camera is not so bad also
OnePlus is missing out on so many customers (me included) by refusing to include SD card support. It's so annoying. I realize some people like that cloud storage, but the option of using an SD card should be there for you to decide if you wanna use it or not.
oneplus fans say 64gb is enough.. not enough for me.. i have a galaxy s5 32Gb + 64Gb sd card and both are full .. 1% left on internal and sd card.. so no 64Gb is not enough.. I have tons of music on my phone + titanium backups + nandroid backups + videos + movies... so no 64Gb is not enough.. and don't tell me to buy 128Gb version when sd card option is much more flexible.... what happens when something goes wrong with the internal memory..
And then on the other hand there are people like me who still haven't used up 16 GB internal on a galaxy s3 lol
+Jeff Wiesneski Just so you know FLAC is meant for archiving not really for listening. You're just wasting space and clearly don't know much about audio.
+root8ble don't you have a PC for all that? Plus I can never trust to put backups on the actual phone. My backups are in the cloud or locked somewhere on my PC. There's Netflix now by the way and you can buy movies on the play store and stream except you watch pirated stuff?
+TechReviews 911 i have a pc. i dont get your point... pc is not mobile.... not everyone have cheap mobile plan and internet. here mobile internet and normal internet is still very expensive.... so streaming all the time is not a good idea
I think you did a great job of comparing the differences between these two phones. Both phones seem to be great, just in different ways.
+Lee H no doubt! Really like both.
1+3 is faster, has better community support, has better camera and has more RAM
Axon 7 has MicroSD slot, better screen and better audio
why should community support matter if you get 2 year warranty and better service on the axon..
There is a 6Gb Variant, actually the Axon has a good community. And what the hell community got do with a phone... Axon has better battery, more ppi, and more accessories!
+Yu Guan yep that's the summary!
How is it faster ? They both have a S820.
TheUnPlayable hardware isn't everything. How the software uses that power matters too in real use.
I'd like the camera to be compared to Samsung S6 camera because you can get an S6 with 400 as well
Both phones blow the s6 out of the water. Don't compare
+TechReviews 911 not their cameras
+Eslova King yea but they arent too much behind
+Eslova King samsung has the best cameras so if they are very close its just very good
+Jeffrey van der Post Sony Xperia XZ has better camera than the Samsung galaxy s7, there is also a comparison but the device isn't officially out yet
OP3 looks better on the back, but the Axon 7 looks way better on the front
XDDD I was thinking the exact OPPOSITE
+No Face lol.. Well it's not really that the op3 is ugly in the front, I just don't like galaxy/iPhone generic clones.
I'd rather have something more unique looking.
Yes but I hate how the speakers look and how weirdly placed the front facing camera is :D the bezzles are neat tho.
But the back on the OP3 is bare, whereas the back on the Axon looks nice with that neat Fingerprint Scanner.
It disgusts me that anyone would go for an iPhone rather than these miracles...
+No Face Idk why anybody would go for an iPhone either, there's so many nice android phones this year.
It's interesting how much people's tastes can differ. I don't like fingerprint readers, so i would rather have the clean back of the op3 (or something I'd actually use). Also it looks like the axon camera protrudes more. I think the speaker grills look cool, especially when held in landscape.
+Eileen the Crow
Well I guess it's a good thing we're different anyway :D
But what's better is finding someone rather decent in these horrible comment sections :3
thats great.. there is so much talk about if wether it has or not. looking forward to your future videos pal. thanks again
Hey Jeff! Does the voice wake feature work on the axon 7? and does the one plus having some voice features on the software side?
It works, but it isn't the most reliable in my opinion. Oxygen OS doesn't have any voice commands built in so if you want that you might prefer Axon 7.
Hello,
during testing have you encountered any problem receiving (mobile)?
Or a lower reception compared to OnPlus 3?
Certain person encounter this kind of problem!
Thank you
Great review, Jeff !! I love Oxygen OS but I prefer the SD on the ZTE. I love to have tons of music offline to limit data usage. Sometimes I use the extra storage to backup my DSLR photos on the go, too.
+Franklin Sbravatti yeah if you need SD slot the Axon 7 is the only way to go, thanks for watching!
thx for this vid!
it was a great help to decide between both phones! :)
Nice video but what icon pack are you using on your Oneplus 3
PHIX icon pack.
Great comparison video! I was leaning towards getting the One Plus 3 because it weighs less (I have a hand injury) and from the videos I have seen, I like what Oxygen OS has to offer. I'm strictly going to use the phone for gaming, web browsing and watching UA-cam videos. Other than the stereo speakers on the Axon 7, will I notice a big difference in screen quality when watching UA-cam videos and Web browsing on the OP3 over the Axon 7? Thanks.
+Susan T nah I don't think so. If you use the phone at a normal distance from your face the 1080p screen on OnePlus 3 is great. Only big difference is I think Axon 7 has better viewing angles outside.
+Jeff Springer Thanks for responding. I'm not too worried about viewing angles. This really helps because I wasn't sure if it was worth buying a phone with a 1080p res. these days because most phones have 2k now. The One Plus 3 is better suited for me.
Thanks again. :)
Hi, Great review! I'm on the fence on the OP3/Axon7/6P. Does the Axon offer adoptable storage internally, or does it offer it externally, similar to the way Samsung configures their devices?
+Jay Jamerson you can use the adorable storage on the Axon 7 same as in a Nexus or Motorola device. But in my opinion adoptable storage still really sucks on Android in general. Not all apps, especially important media apps are setup to use it properly.
Jeff Springer Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't heard much news at all in regards to the adoptable storage. Seemed like such a cool concept; it's a shame it's not being implemented properly. I'll probably just buy a 6P... I just saw where they're on sale in the play store again. :D
@ Jeff - Can the Axon 7 use the Nova Launcher that gives stock view as well a better desktop look and customization features?
Haley Clarke. Yes, all Android phones can. I'm pretty sure its even possible to install a custom lock screen to get rid of the 'bell'.
Which icon ipack are you using on OP3?
are any of these phones supported on rogers?
Awesome video Jeff. Keep up the great reviews.
+James E thanks!
Hi could you help me decide between these two devices, all I need is a comparison on signal strength and reliability also the same on the gps.
Hey Jeff, really really nice comparison. For better screen, audio (hifi chip/front dual speakers) and design I would go for the Axon but I like very much the software and updates, camera, front fingerprint button and 6gb ram of the OP3.
+vasilis vasilis definitely it's a tough choice!
Does the Axon 7 have any screen gestures like the OP3? Like the arrows to change songs, two-finger swipe to play/pause, circle for camera etc.?
+The Optimist yes I covered them in my software tour video, you can check it out on the channel.
great vid. thanks for all the time you invest
+Brian Russell no problem thank you for checking it out!
Are both phones Dual Sim Active or standby
very nice review! thank you. Im sure now that I'll go for the oneplus3
Thank you for this comparison, very helpful!
+Raza K no problem glad I can help.
If I need to use Verizon ( no other carrier has good service where I'm going to be), I should go for the Axon 7 all other things considered right? Thanks in advance for the advice :)
what icon pack do you have in OP3?
Excellent Video !! I have never seen a UA-camR resprespond as comments. That alone is awesome !!
+Ravi Kiran Reddy Gudipally thanks! I try hard to respond to everyone when a phone gets a lot of interest.
Look s like the screen color temp is like identical on both. One plus 5 t, is much better but still no front facing stereo speakers. Axon still have signal issues?
Do both these phones support simultaneous 3G/4G on both SIM?
Great video Jeff..This will help a lot of people in deciding which one they should go for.. thank You..👍
+Jay appreciate man, glad I can help!
Nice comparison to but you missed a very vital thing here - signal reception of both phones. I heard the Oneplus 3 has a weak signal strength. Please run a test on them.
+Chibueze Njoku I have tested both here in Phoenix, no real issues on T-Mobile or ATT for ne
How does the ZTE Axon 7 work on T Mobile? Does it support Band 12 (700mhz) Extended Range LTE?
What skin or launcher was he using on the OnePlus 3?
which one u recommen ?
I like the general aesthetics of the OP3 than Axon 7, both physical and software side.
one plus 3's body looks like a mix between an apple and a samsung phone
Thanks Jeff. Great work as always. Tough choice. I do wish One Plus 3 had expandable software but I agree with you they nailed the software.
+Gary Hunt no doubt both are great phones just some trade offs with each.
Where did you get the apps icon on the ZTE Axon? (White circle icon 6 grey dots) i didnt seem to have one upon startup.
Oh i see, i'm on marshmallow whereas this is lollipop....
Great video. I'm in the UK and zte has a great spec phone but for me issues are: warranty (only six months in the UK) and software. zte need to commit to FULLY support this phone.
+Andy Watts Axon Pro got Marshmallow quick last year. And I bet it will get Nougat fast since it is first daydream ready phone. Now warranty is a shame since it's such a good warranty in the US.
which manufacturer is better with Android updates
Great video! Thanks to you I've made my decision
+Rebel-ape glad I could help, thanks for checking out my channel!
The back light on the capacitive buttons seems like nitpicking. on my s7 edge, I don't think mine light up until you press them anyway. After a week, you know where the buttons are and should have no issue.
hey Jeff where did you get the wallpaper on the op3
+martin swift backdrops
Great video. Although you now made my decision on which to get even harder lol. Could you possibly download and use the same camera app on both phones and take a couple comparison pictures? I'm curious as to whether the Axon 7 over/underexposure is hardware or software related.
+blumsicle sure I'll try with the Google camera app before my full review.
Awesome, thanks! I was going to say use the Google Camera app, but then I noticed it's gone from the play store?!? What's weird is you can still access it from the play store website on a pc, but not from any devices...unless I'm going crazy and/or blind.
+blumsicle you can't but you can still get the apk online.
hey jeff, do you really see a huge difference between the two displays? that's the only issue I have with the OP3 (but it's an important deal for me), with the A7 my only worry is the updates.
+Piero Termini I think the Axon 7 is better in most display categories aside from brightness where they are pretty close. But Axon 7 has better color accuracy viewing angles and more detail of course
That's great man, thanks, I already pre-ordered it 3 days ago, 15 days more and I'll have it, at least I have 30 days to try it, and see if it's what I want, I'm also considering T-Mobile JoD program as an alternative
Does one plus 3 have a panaroma option for its camera?
I wan't to buy it because the black is 4 week away shipping. I really like the gold but don't like the withe front so my question is if i buy a skin from dbrand is the fingerprint thing still white???
what icon pack did he have on the 1+3
This was a great comparison video, Jeff. Thanks so much! You really helped me with my decision. Although I'm a big audio nut and I listen to music on my phone all the time, I'm probably gonna get the OP3 because of the overall better software and the fact that multitasking seems to thrive on the OP3, and multitasking is important to me. But there's something about the OP3 that I'm not used to when it comes to Android phones: no expandable memory. Although I think 64 GB will be enough for me, is there any cloud storage programs you would recommend so I can transfer my music and photos from my microSD card?
+n00b wolf Google Drive is a good option. I use Dropbox premium but of course it's like $99 a year.
Thanks for the tip!
I also recently found out that Google Play Music lets you transfer all of your music from your microSD to their app for free and you can listen to those songs without paying for a subscription for GP Music, which is great! But I'll probably use Druve for all of my photos
Nice summary of the differences. One's choice will really depend on what you prioritize in a phone, and both are tempting. I think overall I might pick the Oneplus 3, but I'm really intrigued by the audio experience on the Axon 7.
+smashbro5 the audio is awesome, it's a really tough choice. If ZTE would commit to unlocking bootloader I would be pushed that way.
Finally i have been waiting for this video.
btw remember the rinhoshield
bumper case I won, which i gave it to my cousin who needed a case for his s7, yesterday he dropped his phone from the stairs and the case saved his phone from shattering though he had some minor scratches but it was alright thanks to you :) btw i don't have s7 i won it to give it to him. i use a moto g3rd gen. Any nice video :)
I know you should not have to but could you not install something like "SoftKey Enabler" app so that you can use those for navigation keys ?
I'm really interested in the op3T but I'm not letting go of the screen and speakers on my Axon 7. Wayyyyyy too good.
Solid review. you really give it fairness. Good job friend.
does it have an RGB notification light?
can the camera be improved through updates on the axon 7? I really love it but the camera is what's holding me back. I like the OP3 also but it not having a SD card slot is a deal breaker for me.
+Alex O I'm sure they can improve some of the exposure issues with software. Whether or not they do it or how quickly is another question.
Great to the point comparison! ... please do the extensive camera comparison if possible ... Thanks
+Sherif Aref will do hopefully tomorrow!
I noticed that the Axon 7 averaged only one signal bar and sometimes none throughout the video, whereas the One plus averaged around three to four. I'm not sure what that means.
Nothing. Many people had this problem with the axon 7 but it got fixed with updates
Great comparison. Thanks.
The ZTE Axon 7 is not available in India as of now but the one plus 3 is selling like crazy..now I see a lot of them around.. great compression✌
+J 123 thanks man!
I have had the OP3 for a month and I have no complaints. I am a phone enthusiast and I have rooted and installed a custom rom on my device. I think the AX7 is a good device but i would be concerned about support for this device, also I dont like the placement of the fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device.
What about the Chinese version of the Axon that will come out later this month? I was checking on aliexpress and it will be exactly the same but having 6gb of ram....so Do you guys think it could worth the wait?
+Roger Rodriguez I don't know that the Chinese version supports US bands but if it supports your carrier maybe. However AliExpress isn't always the most reliable for release times.
great review. cheers!!!!
+Abhishekrockzz99 thanks!
best axon7?
Could you do a video how to get the one plus 3 shelf launcher on other Android devices
How do you get those icons on the OP3?
+PCMasterRace that is the PHIX icon pack I am using it with Action Launcher 3.
has the one plus 3 a theme app?
Very good comparison man!
U didn't mention google's day dream Support by axon 7, or 2 Yeats warranty, nor differences in what's in the box when u but these two phones.
+Giancarlo Cecere I already did an unboxing on both so people can see that if they want box contents. The day dream support is nice though.
the zte is still new.. im sure some issues will be fixed with software updates. quick question please... how good a zte with supporting their phones with updates?. great comparison by the way
+MAR786786 thanks. They were very quick to get out marshmallow last year on the Axon Pro when I had it.
Can you use a UK courier on the US version of the axon 7
depends on the courier, as long as it has the right bands, which carrier do you want to use?
If u can run the dual sim and see what sim 1 does and sim 2 does as far as coverage. If u can try on both devices and see if there is any difference
+Elie Mounsef will do been meaning to test that will get to it tonight some time.
I have htc 10, completely satisfied and in love with it... but axon 7 is just tempting and the only one to be in the same category as 10. Comparison between them should be interesting. OP3 is completely uninteresting and strangely designed phone for me and I find axon way better overall. It's obvious for audiophiles, choice is clear. Htc 10 is missing what axon 7 has, to be the best phone on the planet. Front firing speakers and amoled screen.
+Goran Petrovic the main issue for most people is that these two phones are priced similar. The HTC 10 is still quite a bit more if you buy it new. I'll have a few things to say in terms of audio comparisons to the HTC 10 in my full review buy as an overall comparison it isn't very fair as the HTC 10 is firmly in the flagship price tier and the Axon 7 is in the mid tier.
Agreed. For audiophiles choice between axon 7 and op3 is clear as sun. OP3 is hard to buy in my country and price is much bigger so OP3 is completely crushed by axon 7 and 2 years warranty on screen is extra plus. Generally from someone who always used htc phones, all this hype about OP from beginning is not quite clear to me:) maybe and only for those who can buy it for real price. Even than, OP is clearly and from toe to bottom mid-range phone. Axon 7 sounds and looks more premium in specs and it's easier to buy for real price.
Great work, Jeff. Axon 7 edges OP3 in terms of multimedia performance. Software experience better on OP3.
+Sanjay arsenal thanks, definitely agree. Hopefully ZTE will address a few issues in future updates.
It will get custom roms, 100%
It means nothing if you can't unlock the bootloader.
2 questions: Does the Axon 7 not have an always on display? Why did you only have 1 bar of LTE on the Axon 7 compared to 3 on the OP3?
+Brian West different carriers...T-Mobile on Axon 7 and AT&T on OnePlus 3
+Jeff Springer Ok. Thanks. That had me worried. What about the always on display? I don't think it has that unless I'm mistaken.
expandable storage ,screen brightness, battery life r the most important things for me. u always want to keep your media in the sd card rather than the phone because if it breaks then u r screwed ,2nd brightness is important because of daylight u dont want to see that reflection of the sun and u want to actually what u r doing on it plus in emergencies is needed ,battery life well u get the point
Very helpful. Thanks.
what is the name of your launcher in the oneplus 3?
Action Launcher 3. Been using Action Launcher for a few years now, really like it.
I hate to say it but the Axon 7 had the same issue I've had with the Nexus 6P, the volume and power button is too close to each other and on the right side. Whenever I dock the 6P the clips are always pushing the volume or power button because they are too low. The OP3 has the power button high and volume on the left side just like Samsung which is better placement.
How's the headphone quality on the OP3? Is it decent
fartsmeller Op 3 sounds great on headphones and has the best mono speaker. It sound loud without distortion. Axon is better in terms of speakers and audio jack.
What about RAW support?
Do you get with the OP3 LTE on at&t in the US?
Yes, I get LTE on both AT&T and T-Mobile on Oneplus 3!
+Jeff Springer Thanks for the quick response. One little question. Between those 2 phones, which one do you get faster 4g LTE conection on at&t the OP3 or Axon 7? Thanks again.
Interested in this phone, but read a few reviews that said it was DOA or soon thereafter and have seen no follow up or response.
Even ignoring price it's actually kinda funny I'd take devices like these over supposed true flagships like the s7 or htc 10. Price isn't really a consideration, these are just plain better devices imo.
nice reviews
I'm writing this comment within 2min. of running video...keep it up!
Channel Subscribed....!!!
+NITESH CHINTAWAR thank you!
can you use the Avon 7 on cdma and gsm?
+ZIPPO THE LIGHT I discussed this a bit in my previous Q&A video but it is very unstable on Verizon.
Thanks, this help me a lot.
glad I could help!
Been waiting to see this comparison. Now time to make my final decision. Great job with this.
+TripleH133 thank you glad to help thanks for watching.
Did anyone noticed that ZTE's UI looks more like stock android N? Like the settings and the notifications bar?
+Ayush Bhatt Yes, this is the version running in the US only though. The ones sold on China and Asia have a more colorful UI, or so I've heard from many commenters who have that. Version.
How did you get your name on the lockscreen?
+jrizzle555 you can go in and change it to "display owner information" and type in whatever you want.
Will both work on T-Mobile 4g network?
yes perfectly, they work great in Phoenix on T-Mobile.
Would the ZTE Work on Verizon LTE in the US? I know the OP3 only works on Verizon 3G.
i have no idea, you can look at the bands
it works on all of them
stand by time is crazy too. 5 hours and still 100% and have been using it 5 mins and still at 100% key board is nice too. reminds me of the Samsung with the numbers on the top.
thank u bro somebody finally did this comparison....I was waiting for this and u do iiiittttt.😂
+donte pearce thanks glad you enjoy it!
Something about the Software from Axon 7: It is Google-Dadream ready and when Android Nougat Comes out, it will be able to run Google's VR program. In my opinion this is a big Advantage too for buying the Axon 7!
+Majeed Muhammad Tanveer yes something j forgot to mention here but it will be in my full review. There isn't really a comparison to be made to the OnePlus 3 since 1080p is insufficient for any type of VR
Does the Axon 7 support dual-window multitasking? And does it support WiFi calling for T-mobile users?
Good question!
lol good question, no answer
+Andy M I am also looking for the answer to this question soo
It will when Nougat drops and yes to wifi calling on t mo
Great video, mate.
+Creuss Drey thanks!
can the axon work on Verizon LTE and CDMA?
+john endsley I addressed this in my Q&A video, you can get LTE but it is very erratic. I had to keep rebooting to stay on LTE for Verizon.
Very nice comparison, next is the Idol 4S
+X-Techi yep coming next week!
Axon 7 all day for me, I'm an audiophile and love my high quality video, I'd never trade those for ever so slightly better extreme multitasking. Plus the axon 7 is so incredibly sexy. And if your interested at all in VR unless you have low standards 1080p screen of one plus 3 simply won't suffice. Also axon 7 is currently the only daydream ready phone. Good review tho, just interesting to see how different people's perspectives can be, most of the things you listed as cons I listed as pros lol.
+SubLimation7 Axon 7 is definitely the best choice for anyone emphasizing audio, no comparison
