Thanks for the review about privacy problems that happens with Android and/or Apple operating systems that Calyx provides, you still haven't talked about how the phone like normally runs for us to make the switch. Just like your past reviews when you did with the Xaomi phones. *FULL REVIEW NEEDED*
It's not a phone, It's an OS you install on a google pixel device, check those review for hardware information. Everything else I've noticed as a calyx user for more than 6 months has been the same as stock android, just better privacy + performance.

Sadly, I don't have a Google Pixel, so i can't try Calyx right now, but I've been using a Samsung Galaxy SIII Neo as my main mobile phone for quite a while now, and Lineage OS runs pretty good on it. I decided to not use Play Services or even MicroG on it because of performance reasons, and to be honest, this is the best experience I've ever had on a mobile phone. I had to get used to having no Google Maps app and RCS Messaging (and of course only EDGE Connection, but that's alright). But now, I just love it.

Search for murena Fairphone 4. It doesnt run with Callyx OS, it runs with /e/ OS. Another opensource OS. It gets fabricated as you order it (6-8 weeks) so you dont finance all the phones that noone ever buys, i think thats also the reason why this verson of the phone is slightly cheaper.
I think Huawei should us Calxy OS instead of Harmony OS as it will be almost similar as Android and they also use the privacy feature in advertising to encourage more people buying their phones. This may regain them their old or new customers who are looking more a privacy phone and who had bought a Huawei phone in past in just a couple of years.
Huawei is run by the Chinese Communist Party, any advertised “privacy feature” is a trick. I can guarantee that a Huawei phone has much more telemetry being sent than any other Google or Apple phone.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google did something shady to try to get rid of calyx OS. in the past I've Loved Google, I even use one of their pixel phones but recently their company has become significantly less customer centric. Google wasn't a very customer-centric company to begin with but now they're starting to favor advertisers over customers and creators so much that it's bothering me a lot. I'm just saying Google is a very very big company and they have nothing to gain and everything to lose from calyx becoming more popular. I'm probably going to end up switching out my phone soon for something else but given the big bugs that have recently been found in OnePlus I'm not sure what I should switch to.
@Gottes God My current plan was to just take a cheap xiaomi phone, strip it bare and install something like calyx or arrow. I'll look into OnePlus too when the time comes.
as someone with generalized anxiety, google always tracking me makes me very uncomfortable. i don't do anything bad so i don't worry about it too much, but if i had the option to not be tracked, that'd obviously be the better choice

Watching that HTC Magic brings back so many memories. It was my first Android phone, and I remember switching to Cyanogen Mod after a while. How I miss that phone!
Very informative video. Although I don't think it's smart to conclude that since it's open source "there are no hidden trackers or spyware". Open source is great, but somebody qualified needs to spend the time auditing the source code to make sure it's clean. (I'm not suggesting anything about Calyx OS. Just a general comment.)
I was about to say the same thing. Plenty of open source code has been shown to contain malware. Assuming that code is safe because it's open source is a terrible mindset to have. If you or a trusted 3rd party hasn't audited the code and deemed it to be safe, treat it the same way you'd treat a closed source application.
@@OkarinHououinKyouma most people don't understand code lol. it's very easy then to say "hey, you can look at all the code yourself, so you can trust us" while betting that almost nobody is going to closely examine and understand the code
Calyx OS is based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project). 1:21 you can flash GAPPS (Google Apps) with any AOSP ROM. 1:40 you can bypass google's spyware stuff with root (Magisk Manager) 4:42 by doing this, if you somehow break or brick your phone, everything is gone, forever. camera/photos app communicates with google to backup. 7:57 once again, you are using android, AOSP. also normal android, such as OneUI or stock AOSP (found on google pixels natively) are just much cleaner 10:18 haha, that's funny. i dont know why any oem would scrap android/aosp in favour of calyxos, dont forget that oems get bank off normal androiid too. anyways, nice video, pretty entertaining
imagine the person behind this rebranded some chinese phones and flashed that custom rom onto them and sold it as a new device everyone starts somehow after some time he can join a company that will sell devices with this rom preinstalled if they paid him or make his own and create phones with this rom that would be interesting

4:42 by doing this, if you somehow break or brick your phone, everything is gone, forever. camera/photos app communicates with google to backup.
