The Mifavor update last month helped make the phone faster. I did a new benchmark test getting 149899 on Antutu. It beat every phone out there. There is a few things that got better with the update. I can't wait to get Nougat on it.

This is what I want, a real review from someone who has used this for more than a day or two. Incredibly thorough and you go through the basic stuff that I wanted to hear, such as speakers, speed, graphics, and the camera. Subbed! And your cat is fuckin' adorable!!

Sworn Geisha - it is hard to find one that is still not the price as introduced - about $400 - unless you buy used. Hesitant to do that without knowing the seller - maybe just me.

Just got my ZTE Axon 7. Woop! I find I like the hidden notifications. Notifications mar the appearance on my screen and for me, I don't want them to show by default. That could change but for now, I don't mind the bell. Thanks Floss.

One thing I like about Flossy's reviews is that he keeps it REAL. No bullshit. He's honest, he tells you straight up how it is. Straight facts and honest opinions. I have the Axon 7 with newly released Nougat 7.1.1, and it's a great phone! My only complaint is indoor photo shots sometimes come out with a lot of noise on the pictures, but overall, it's a great phone, especially for $400.
Hands down, this one blows the overpriced phones out of the water.

I'm still debating Axon 7 vs OP3. OP3 is the faster phone, has better software(Oxygen OS), has a better camera, and has better battery life + charges faster. Axon has the better screen, better speakers, and expandable storage via microsd. These 2 phones are like neck and neck depending on your preferences.
Axon also has a better resolution, but OP3 is not that bad
You cant go wrong with either!

one of the reasons why I like your reviews - you are good at convincing. I bought the phone after you explained the specs and why you thought it was the best budget phone on the market. Plus I'm a music junky and that along with the QHD display and explanation, it was a major win. Still rocking it and hopefully looking at their next Axon soon.

Just got this! Audio is phenomenal! Want it Louder? Get Player Pro from the Play store, then get the Player Pro DSP pack and put it on Techno mode then adjust from there! Loud and Clear!
Damn good review. I like how you recorded all your inputs without any edits throughout the video. It sounds so much convincing with how honest and the funny real world situation comments you make with each of the phones features. Compared to the professional short reviewers ive seen in phones in general, you point out alot of good points that has never really been covered in depth.

I agree, IR blaster is a huge thing in my life. It was something I didn't even think about until a month after I got the s6 and broke my TV remote, and didn't want to buy a different one.
Yeah, I also used the IR blaster for the TV and Reciever on the HTC One m8 very often :/

I'm getting the axon seven because I love listen to music and watch movies on my phone so the axon 7 is the easy choice but you look over the 6 gb of ram

Just ordered the Axon for the music quality and the fact that I wouldn't get a OP3 until oct 28th.
I typically have a bunch of tabs open in Chrome on my phone and still never use more than 2GB of ram lol So 6GB of ram is really overkill for me. I like the 3GB-4GB sweet spot.
guys i bought the nexus 6p,everything runs smooth except chrome if im loading like 8 tabs at one go, im guessing its the app's issue, on the p9 too had the same issue!
I think people just have to pick which one works better for their life. With a better screen, sound, being a non gamer, and SD card slot I'm going for the Axon 7. If you have to have 45 apps opened at once and need that extra .7 seconds it takes then the OP3 would be better. I heard the OP3 has a better camera, but I've seen videos where video stabilization in the OP3 is horrible compared to the Axon 7.
I have this phone and it's awesome for $400. can't believe how smooth it is, no lag at all since I've had it for two weeks. Camera is hit or miss is my only complaint.

What US network would you think is best for an individual plan? I use a lot of data from UA-cam, Soundcloud, Gmail, Twitch, Reddit, etc. I want to get this phone but I'm currently on a Verizon family plan(shared data) and wanted to go solo.

I like the fact that you have to tap the bell to see the notifications. Nothing annoys me more than seeing notifications before I'm ready to check them. A lot of times I'm in a hurry to pull up my GPS or make a call and the notifications are irritating. I'm a little OCD so if I "see" the notification, I feel an obsessive, unjustified need to check it.
Wireless charging rocks and for me it is indeed a must if the smartphone is also water proof/resistant.
Otherwise we could have to wait 30 minutes up to 4 hours for the slot to dry up before we get allowed to charge it with the micro USB/USC C .
The display and the speakers on the idol 4s is incredible. The processor is very good and smooth. I just wish the screen was wider and 5.7inches. I also don't like the placement of the power button and the volume buttons, but that's about it.
Thanks for the info on the speakers. My Nexus 6p is loud, but I've got two sim cards active. The Axon 7 is a must for a second phone, plus I could use the one phone with both sims inside, and still have loud speakers. Definitely a real review, thanks again.
With the price of the 64gb Nexus 6p being only $420, the competition is really fierce. I'm leaning towards the 6p because of the unlocked bootloader, better camera, better battery life and fast software updates. Both phones are likely daydream ready from day 1 also - very close call. What do you think?
Mr. Carter congratulations that you mention the absence of the IR blaster. You fully understand that some people use it and in some cases this feature is a deal breaker.

how does it matter what you don't like. the point is that it has everything to compete against the major brands. it is not the mid range phone, but it is a premium phone.

Very nice review. Ordered this phone and should get it hopefully in September. Other than the non- light up main keys like the home button and the camera, this phone is exactly what I'm looking for. Although I wish this phone had a removable battery, if it is properly maintained, the battery could last you up to 3 to 4 years.
Great video Floss, I am getting the grey Axon 7 and it comes with a $200 pair of monster headphones from Newegg so really it was only $200 lol. Yeah it will be worth it I think cause I like all the things you didn't like about the phone. Don't think it really would bother me cause every phone I got used to after a few months anyway. They also were going with on screen buttons but changed that because people were complaining it was making the screen smaller. I do wish they lit up though and were a little farther apart. By the way I loved the end of the video with the beaming up notion.

I also ordered through Newegg for the free headphones. Those might have been $200 headphones in 2013, but now they are about $100 headphones anywhere other than Newegg. Newegg just lists them at retail to make the deal look more appealing. They are still a solid pair of headphones, though.

I have a oneplus 3 and find 1080p to be more than acceptable. I actually prefer it over the 6p display. Resolution isn't everything, and vr is just meh to me

I chose the Oneplus 3 for the minimal bloatware, closer to stock Android, dev friendliness, fingerprint scanner (front, very fast) and design (subjective), but all those three phones seem to be very good choices. I'm glad this kind of phones are out. As you say: what a time to be alive :D

Regarding the ZTE Axon 7, OK it needs some more improvements, such as more UI polish, better photos mostly in low light, more display nits & most of all the capacitive buttons. but let's hope that ZTE will see your review & others and they will correct them for the next gen ZTE Axon (8). But considering the actual ZTE Axon 7 overall, there is absolutely no doubt that the ZTE AXON 7 IS THE BEST PHONE/PHABLET THAT MONEY CAN BUY!!!!!

What a time to be alive! I may be a bit of a phone snob and set my targets on the Notes, Nexus and other high (or more expensive) phones, but if all of those phones fell off the planet and I only had the choice of those 3... I'd be happy as hell. My main phone is the Nexus 6p, but if I was having some money issues or something funky in my life... I would use any of those and not sweat it a bit. Accept maybe the One Plus 3 cause they done pissed me off too many times.

The budget ZTE phones buttons light up, it strange that you can't turn it on a mid-range phone? The home button is also the notification light on the budget ZTE phones.

Coming from a g3. I had to Go with the G5 over a 6p or Axon 7. Biggest reasons? 1. Removable battery. 2. Wide angle camera. 3. IR blaster.

The OnePlus 3 is cool, but for me it's all about the Alcatel Idol 4s & ZTE Axon 7. The Idol 4s gives you more bang for your buck (considering what comes in the box) to me. But the Axon 7 straight up is slightly ahead. I don't see how there's a wrong choice here.

Very nice reviews Flossy! They are very helpful. I have a question: would you prefer Axon 7 over a used $400 Note 5? Which would give the most bang for your buck on those?
Axon 7 is a good phone for the price. Had mine for almost a year now. My issue has been slow updates from ZTE, took them a long time to push encryption standards (check the forums on that issue if you need to)pain to get registered on Verizon, and switching towers while travelling is bad. No matter which APN settings, I can drive across town and it drops coverage or to under even 2G service on TMobile while getting 4G on the screen. About to sell it, just tired of dealing with it and I am very technical by trade, so it's not me.
Floss you gotta review the ZTE zmax pro. It's 100 dollars from metro. Big screen, finger print scanner, decent camera.. Lookin like the best trap phone for the price.
