need to hook up your diesel heater wheelbarrow suit to the jet ski it appears!
Wouldn't that be a spectacle ! I love it.
You are much tougher than me when it comes to temps that cold. If I were with you I would have been screaming " Quit opening the truck door, and turn up the heater for me." Really cool ( COLD ) video.
Haha. I really don't like the cold.... or being wet, believe it or not. Funny how life brings us to odd places.
Back in the early 90s I used to train all year long for jet ski racing in Illinois and I would fabricate a rubber grommet for the end of the cable going into the trigger throttle and pack it with grease after spraying a ton of cable lube through the cable. That seemed to eliminate the issue you’re having.
Once the river froze, we drove a little bit further to a lake with a nuclear plant and the water was almost 70° no matter what the temperature outside was
Since the two did not come with a thermostat what are you doing to restrict the quantity of cold water going through the engine and trying to cold seize it? Back in the day they were companies that made in-line thermostats, but normally we just put restrictors in the line to keep the temperature high enough in the cylinder.
Brings back a lot of memories, and I swore I would never go on cold water again! We wore dry suits when it got really cold.
Love the videos!
Yeah.. My cable was not sealed at all.. I did have lube on it, but that didn't cut it. The seal..., that would have helped for sure.
This footage was shot in Nov 2020 and I re edited it. My ski has had a lot of mods since this footage.
I actually made a video talking about how I was worried about cold seizing the engine before I went out (on my other channel) ... I don't think many people understood it. I had an intricate ball valve set up for my exhaust / engine feed and could partly monitor the temp based on how hot my bars got... If I made sure to wait until I felt warm water before going too hard.
In this video I had 7mm of neoprene on, but I upgraded my suit to a lighter O'neill Psycho... It's not a dry suit, but I can be out for hours thrashing and the only time I get any water in is on a hard crash ... it will come in around the neck a little, of cuffs.
They watch you because they wish they could try 'experiments" like you do. Stay safe and keep it up.😊
I suppose that is true. 👍 Thanks for the comment.
I'm betting that water that you are pumping was getting into your cable and freezing further down-the-line.
For sure... I was hoping that it would stay warm enough in the hull area that the cable would be heater at both ends.... but apparently not !
@@loweredexpectations4927 Well, when you were stuck going wide open? I was thinking oh c***Oh c***Oh c***Oh c***Oh c***Oh c***Oh c***, oh crap. 😂

That looks fun!
I'm glad we have the same idea of what "FUN" is haha. I like a good challenge, and I didn't die = win.
The way the winter is going up here you may be able to ride that thing year round. Looks like a lot of fun.
Yeah, if you are dressed for it, and the water is liquid, you can have a lot of fun. You do need to take precautions and be aware of the risks
Dude!!! At first you inspired me to get back into jet skis (especially Kawasaki as that’s my favorite brand for two wheels as well).. then, you reminded me of all the time I spent living in the northern part of North Dakota right up by the border (near the Peace Gardens actually). After that, seeing your decision processes as you dealt with all the various challenges made me appreciate that I’m not the only one that make’s similar choices at times. Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with the world.
I came for the heaters but will be staying for the rest of your content as well. All the best on your future adventures!! ps - if you ever want to collaborate on a project let me know, I am an adventurer and in the photo and video industry as well as having owned an auto repair shop in the past. 🤙
Thanks for the comment !! Yeah, Kawasaki ! haha
I'm glad the video connected with you in some way. Very few people will understand this in the say way you do... I assume, haha.
Thanks for the colab offer.. I'll keep it in mind.
Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for the comment ! I appreciate it !
In a future episode we can expect to see jetskiing at minus 10 Celsius with a diesel heater installed in the jetski engine bay and ducts to the handlebars🤣🤣
My buddy suggested doing that , haha. I don't think we have any liquid water left after the cold snap we just had.
i already know the wifes/GF's reaction.
shaking her head without any comments 😂
🤣 I have to say, I think that's a pretty appropriate reaction !
I have an X2. Love it!
Sweet ! I have done a lot of mods to mine, both before and after this video... it's a totally different animal now. 1100 Triple swap with a front fill and some home made carbon fibre bits.
I like to troll for trout in both spring and late fall. While watching you on the water I had the sudden realization that I needed to install not 1 but 2 diesel heaters on the 12.5' boat I'm updating. Way better and safer than the old Coleman catalytic heaters I have used in the past. The ability to easily duct the heat where needed is a real bonus. Warm hands for tying knots in freezing weather would be really nice too.
Awesome ! It may seem hard to believe, after watching this, but I really hate being cold !! As you will know, it really sucks doing anything with cold wet hands....
You know what they say "two heaters is better than one" 🤔 or is it "two heads"..... either one is correct !
Oh Man.. Just watching this has me thinking my Boyz arent gonna drop til August! 😂 Per Joel, Mr. Just Send It ..Thats Brutal my friend here, warm up 🔥🔥🔥🔥
🤣🤣🤣 It helps to have a good wetsuit... or in this case, 2 kinda crappy ones layered up. 7mm in total of neoprene goes a long way to keeping you warm. ... and by warm, I mean, not freezing to death, haha
I actually did a lot of preparation for this to try to make sure I didn't' die, but most of that doesn't come through in the video... It was a lot of fun. I like a good challenge.
You have one of the most Canadian english accents i have ever heard. No doubt here.
Haha.. Why thank you... So you mean I didn't have to prove myself by doing this....🤔
You should have had you diesel heater suit on 😅😂
I totally mess up ... missed a perfect opportunity, haha
Really admire you for doing that. Bravery, madness, confidence. Take a few bird snacks next time...stay safe and warm.
Hah ! Yes... bird snacks ! A lot more preparation went into this that seems at a glance. It was less reckless than it appears, but still not for the faint hearted.
I was as nervous watching this as i am watching those tower climbers! 😳
Oh man !!! I can't watch those videos.... I'm sorry for making you feel that way.
@loweredexpectations4927 NO! Please don't apologize! I enjoy watching stuff that gets my heart pumping fast. Love your videos....keep them coming. I don't have the desire to burn anything but diesel in my Maxpeedingrods 5kw heater, but I've learned a lot from watching your videos. I used to be scared of the idea of pulling my heater apart, but after watching your videos, I've actually taken mine apart (successfully) to clean it. 😁
@@StephenGHayward Awesome ! I'm glad to hear that... you gotta get in there and tinker with things. I just ordered a Maxspeedingrods 8kw heater to test. 👍

Paranoid? Your freaking nuts 😅😂😂
Haha... My helmet strap was hitting my helmet as it blew around in the wind, and because I was wearing a neoprene hood, my hearing was all messed up.
Oh my man! That was nuuuuts!
I may share the video from the week after ... when I became an icebreaker ... That was also nuts. The water was colder but the air a little warmer.
And I don't know anything about jetskis but I hope the pump or engine doesn't freeze and bust on the way home!!
That's a legitimate concern. The engines (and exhaust) is made to drain of water so that you don't have salt water sitting in there after use. It is a good idea to blow them out for winter storage, or flush them with nontoxic antifreeze, but mine drains out really well.
Crazy😎I was freezing just watching you😅😊👍
So, it didn't inspire you to go out and try the same thing ... According to UA-cam critics, when I do something it is encouraging others to do the same 🤣
@loweredexpectations4927 yes you inspired me running diesel heater on oil and much more...😊I'm from NY Hudson River is like my home and every November I start to dream to move myself somewhere south for 5 months,to escape the winter 😅

A jetski with a diesel heater build LOL ;)
My buddy BJ suggested this 🤣 I think this is the perfect example if "futile" haha.
It would have been good if the diesel heater had been mounted in the passenger compartment hahaha, so from now on, no video without a diesel heater.
Haha... My buddy tried to talk me into mounting a heater on it.

This past summer I got to try a Turbocharged V8 6L LS swapped Yamaha WaveRunner.... and broke it.

I'd like to get an SXR one of these days. Don't see to many around lately though.
@@ryanzanow8221 Haha.. !
Yeah, the SXR is becoming more rare and they usually sell for a lot if in decent shape. Two of my buddies got them in the past few years and both were cheap... My one buddy, who always gets deals, got a SeaDoo factory race ski 1997 XP, kinda rough and a SRX in mint condition, for $1500 with a beach kart.... 🤬

Finally.... seeing this, i understand that NOTHING IS DANGEROUS IN LIFE but, canadians to themselves.
Haha... that's one way to put it. 🤟
First of all, you've got balls of steel. That seemed really dangerous and cold. I'm cold just from watching the video and I'm used to cold. I love jet skis but not so much in winter. None of my business but I'm curious what's in the backpack? also, not that I suggest you keep doing this when it's that cold, I wonder if bush guards for the handlebars on motocross bikes would work by keeping the spray off the lever? Or at least keep the wind from blowing away the hot water you have directed at it
Thanks for the commnet !
The stuff in the back pack was a watertight change of clothes, my phone, some snacks and something, some paper towel and something to start a fire.
It was a little less reckless than it appeared, as I had 7 mm of neoprene. I think you may be right about brush guards ... the wind chill would also be greatly reduced.
Dude you're f****** crazy😅
🤟 Haha.... Thanks !
You should have brought one of your diesel heter for warming up.
... and my inflatable suit ?

Looks fun, but I'm hesitant because it's so cold and you looked so alone out there. I'll get it though anyway. Haha. At least we know it can run at wot for a long time!
Haha... Did you hear that poor thing screaming ! 🤔 Not ideal right after an engine rebuild.
I like riding alone. I also enjoy riding with others, but I'm a lone wolf, most of the time.
@@loweredexpectations4927 haha yeah i heard and i was like earlier in the video totally recognizing myself every god damn time i have repaired something and need it to work totally paranoid and can hear noises and feel vibrations and it freaks me out everytime. And i agree, i like ride my bikes alone as i never know if i wanna kick down a couple gears and do 250kph just because i can at that moment.
I am sure the engine was properly rebuild or you had for sure found that out while WOT with frozen throttle and in -10c.
That would have sucked, but the jetski proved herself that day,and im sure you will fix the freezing issue by maybe some hand protectors as we have on enduro bikes.
You do you. Its awesome to watch.
Sorry long reply, but i just sat down after painting the Husqvarna 610 in GULF blue and my mask i use is somewhat questionable. So im high? Not really, but i do have some strange sensations going on. I should get some fresh air. ;) Maybe i should upload a shorts on my progress.

Hey ! Originally from NB, Miramichi. I've been in AB since 2007.
Easier to just enclose everything.. making it a boat, i guess...
I like that idea.
Always pack wd-40 for cables in subzero temp bro. Get some seafoam deep creep in there and it's never going to stick again in your lifetime 😂
🤟 That cable had at least WD-40 and some grease on it... the issue is that it's not sealed at the top. Water rand down into the housing and then froze.... despite the warm water.

If the lever on the right is the throttle, is the left lever the water brake?
Most jet skis do not have this... That is attached to the jet nozzle on the back, to adjust trim... Normally this is a switch thing on the side of the jetski.
I put it on the handlebar to do tricks.

Last year my last ride was Oct 19 as I broke my knee riding in shallow water.
