    Hi Joel,
    Somehow I missed the tag-on you put after the last video until now. I went back and watched it after seeing your comment thanking them for their responses in this video.
    Sorry to hear you are having to go through a separation/divorce and all that goes with it. Been there and done that 24 years ago. (It was a bit more complicated due to having a 7 year old child we continued to raise with joint custody in separate homes.)
    Hang in there, it will get better. Remember not to isolate, and continue to reach out to good friends.
    Some suggestions:
    If there are holes in your emotional support system, I recommend getting some professional therapy to help through the emotional gyrations that come with a separation. I found it helpful, and there's no shame in seeking and getting help through trying times.
    Also, if you qualify for any of the 12 step programs, they can be a real help for processing through it all. Most people at least qualify for one of them (like Al-Anon) as I don't think anyone's life has been completely unaffected by someone else's addiction, even if it is a generation removed from yours. Unlike professional therapy, the 12 step programs don't cost anything.
    Cheers from Oregon,
    Philip

      I'm very lucky that we didn't have any kids. We only had a cat, haha. It was a pretty easy separation, as far as they go.
      Thanks for your suggestions and concerns.
      I am very much a recluse / introvert and don't do well with too much social interaction. I am trying to release a video for tomorrow where I briefly talk about how being in social situations is exhausting, haha... but I have been visiting with (getting visits from) a friend recently and texting friends.
      I have dealt with depression and mental health issues run in my family. (OCD and bipolar) I haven't spoken to therapist in about 8 years, but I have seen therapists from the time I was 8 years old. I have learned to recognize when I am in a bad spot. (not there yet) I've been handling all of this pretty well, all things considered.
      Thanks again for your comment !

    All I needed to know and see. I just ordered it. And I have plenty of uses for it. Having got into the sheetmetal trade 30 years ago I kinda drifted away from this stuff and for anyone that doesn't know these things have come a long, long way in ability and price. $200 is cheap.

      Haha... I get that. This is one of those tools that, once you have it, you will find uses for it. Last summer I did some repair work on my buddies trailer, and used his plasma cutter to remove a bunch of rusty old metal and welds ... I probably saved a days worth of cutting with a grinder, and $50 worth of cut off discs... Not to mention the mess, noise and dust everywhere.
      I have done without one for a long time, and I wouldn't say it is a "must have tool" but the price has come down enough that they are now accessible to just about everyone.... and the cost of consumables also. The first cutter that I had, A Victor Thermal Dynamics (got stolen) .... the consumables cost about $40 a set ... and these are about $2 when bought in bulk.

    That's impressive!! I had no idea that a plasma could cut all that. I've used mine for thin metal, and that's it. 3/4" phew!! That's substantial. Does it go thicker if you jamb the pressure up to max? Have you ever used it on round stock? Like could you cut an axel with it?
    Happy that you got your house mostly figured! ;) That's such a huge stress to have relieved!

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, you can cut some reasonable thick material with ease I would say 3/8" (10mm) plate steel is not much of an issue and you will get good quality cuts (with a 50 amp cutter and around 80 psi).
      Once you get into the thicker stuff, your speed really drops off and it's hard to get decent quality cuts, as any deviation in angle from your hand, changes the pattern of the cut.
      The idea is that at lower amps, you should run lower air pressure. This will make for a better quality cut, use a lot less air, throw around less mess / sparks and so on. I think the max pressure they recommend is around 80, and I always just run mine at 80. I have cranked my old one up (many years ago) and it would cust slightly more.
      They do cut round stock, but the technique can be tricky if you are looking for a quality cut. If you just want to hack it off.... not a problem. Years ago, when I had my Vicotr Thermal Dynamics, I had a grounded roller setup, so that I could place round stuff on it and hold the torch still and rotate the work to cut .... mostly for pipe. It was a lot of fun.
      It does feel good to have the house stuff sorted out... Or at least, that part of the house stuff.

    Hi again Joel,
    YT keeps deleting my comments, so I am trying to figure out why by splitting them up.
    I finally got a vevor CO tester that didn't have a sticky "on" button (the 3rd one I got), and so was able to compare it to the color display model you use (which is getting hard to find). The vevor works okay, but has a slower response time than your color display model has, so it's not as usable for motor or heater tuning as the color display model is.
    It's hard to gauge the accuracy of any of these inexpensive co meters because they all read differently, and all have different refresh rates. Bottom line, they do warn you when PPMs go up, so they are probably all useful as a safety device.
    I'm going to wind up keeping both the vevor model for use as an on-board co tester when using a diesel heater to heat the boat or camper -- I can turn off the auto-off function and leave it on and it should wake me up if something goes awry.... It should use less power because it doesn't have to produce light for the display to be readable, unlike the color one. I'll keep the color display model for motor and heater tuning because of it's much faster refresh rate.
    I can send you a video of the simultaneous test of the two meters in my car's exhaust via FB messenger, but you don't seem to check that regularly so I won't unless you respond to this comment. Or you can send me your email address via FB messenger and I can send you a link to the video on cloud storage.
    We'll see if this one gets deleted or not.
    Cheers from Oregon,
    Philip

      @loweredexpectations4927  3 місяці тому

      YT has been really picky about what they allow people to say. I think most of what they delete is simply out of misunderstanding / lack of context.
      I think that the CO meter is to be used as a general guide and like you say, shows you when it gets to a dangerous amount. Unless you have a laboratory setup, mixing of "fresh" air with the CO is going to drastically affect the reading .... it does read parts per million, so a little fresh air makes a huge difference.
      It would be interesting to hook an amp meter up to the different heaters (displays) and see if you can actually read a difference in amp draw. So far... this comment has not been deleted, haha.
      I actively stay away from FB as it is not good for my mental health... at all, haha. I left my email address at the end of the description of this video ... and left out the @gmail.com Feel free to email me there.

    That cut great for a $200 plasma cutter, but did you know that you could fill that hole that you cut back in easily by just clamping a piece of 1/4 Inch brass or copper plate to the bottom of the hole? It works best with a MIG, but you can fill in with a stick if it doesn't need to be pretty. ( edit.... Also, you can't cut through brass or copper with the plasma cutter.)

      Thanks for asking .. Things are going fairly well.... My mortgage came through on Friday, so it has been VERY hectic, leading up to that.
      I finished up with my mudding and will be spraying on some primer this week. Not sure where I'm going from there, haha .
      I haven't been doing any testing, but I do have one video that I need to release with the results from my "self cleaning" heater.... it worked quite well, but needs some more suitable materials for the rotating shaft (it eroded away) I haven't had time or motivation to finish editing that video, with everything that has been happening.
      The Mazdaspeed 3 belongs to Megan, my X girlfriend / common law.... She "takes possession" of her new house tomorrow, Monday, and will be slowly moving her stuff, and Quasar, our cat, in the next few weeks. She wants to get everything moved in and set up, to cause Quasar as little stress as possible.
      Plasma cutters are very cool and much more affordable than they used to be.... I used my buddies this past summer to do a repair on a trailer. I probably saved a days worth of grinding, and $50-60 worth of grinding discs, because I was able to cut out welds and rusty old metal, using the plasma cutter.

      It's those kind of stories that make me very hesitant to buy from the green company. I had my own experience with a water cooler I bought from them. They resolved it but were kind of a pain to deal with. It's a shame because some of their welders are kind of nice for the money but their after sales support leaves a lot to be desired.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  3 місяці тому

      Not really. The issue is hard to explain, and I think / know they couldn't actually be bothered to test my machine, once they received it.
      It has a few issues where it seemed like it would switch from AC to DC while I was welding aluminum. The HF start had issues. There was an issue with the slope or taper feature... Basically, it had about 6 different faults that would show up intermittently, and others that are immediately apparent. (I believe all related)
      They were convinced (and so was I) that it was something that I was doing wrong... I got a new regulator, new hose, new consumables, checked for leaks like 10 times, switched out CO2 tanks 3-4 times. I did everything they told me to do for about 2 months, and it cost me several hundred dollars, not to mention my time...
      When I sent it back to them, I had to pay shipping because it had been beyond their free shipping point.... because they kept making me try stuff that didn't work, for 2 months. When I packed it up, I made sure to pack it in a way so that I would know if they had used the regulator, hose, if they opened up the welder etc... They did open the welder up, but they did not even test or use my hose or regulator... that they had claimed were the issue, previously.
      They sent the unit back to me with zero communication, other than to send me an invoice for shipping.... nothing to say it was ok or not... nothing to say what they did or didn't do... Literally zero communication.
      I was going to make a video about it at the time, but I was way too angry. I would have said things that could have gotten me in trouble with the law.

    1 kPa is approximately the pressure exerted by a 10-g mass resting on a 1-cm2 area. Easy metric math's; 1 bar is 100,000 Pascal or 100 kPa or 0.1MPa or 1 kg-cm2. 1 Atmosphere is 101.3 kPa. But you are not a metric guy and you want "standard" 14.5038 pounds per square inch instead of 1 kilo gram per square centimeter and you now know that gauge shows all the way up to 145 PSI.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  3 місяці тому

      I think the problem is, that I grew up with the SAE and metric system. I switch back and forth a lot. If I am measuring something small, I use mm or cm, but if it is smaller than a mm, then I use thousandths of an inch. If it is larger than a few cm, then I use inches, and I also use SAE for wrench sizes or metal thickness. Temperature I'm only really comfortable with C, but cook everything at F... but I just know what to cook it at, and dont' know what 375 or 400 is 😂
      With pressure, I understand PSI and read tires and engine compression in this way. I know that 1 bar is about 14 - 15 psi. It totally breaks my mind when I see readings on a gauge that are in decimals. Like, not only do I not know what the thing is, but now I have to know what a fraction of the thing is, that I don't know 😂

    Hi Joel,
    Thanks for the review!
    I recently picked up a new-old-stock HF 40Amp 240v High Frequency start model from a guy on CL (it's no longer being sold) to do some major boat trailer repairs. The downside is, of course, it won't be very portable since it can't work with 120v. It works fine on the 240V 50amp circuit I have set up in my garage for my stick welder. (I made up a 50 foot 4 AWG SO cable extension that allows me to work anywhere in the garage or in front of it outside.)
    Question: what are you using to remove moisture from your air? That seems to be one of the biggest killers for the High Frequency start plasma cutting consumables.
    I'm going to have to do something about my air supply. I was recently doing a repair on my mower deck, and using the compressed air to blow it off, and there was a LOT of water coming out. That was with the 60 gallon shop compressor in my garage at ambient temperatures (about 60F) using about 100 feet of 3/8 non-rubber hose.
    I bought a small in-line desiccant moisture removal device that I picked up at HF for around $7 US$ to put ahead of my plasma cutter, but it won't do the job considering how much moisture was coming out.
    How much moisture did you see captured in the trap that vevor supplied?
    My compressor is at the back of my garage, and the moisture trap I have near it doesn't pick up much. I think I'll try installing another collection-type moisture trap at the front of my garage and see how much it picks up there. There would be about 30 feet of hose between the compressor and where I would put that moisture trap, so maybe it will be enough distance to catch most of the condensed moisture.... We'll see.
    Cheers from Oregon
    Philip
    Hopefully YT doesn't delete this response....

      I have a intricate moisture removal system in my attic.... It consists of a air cooler that is 40 feet of copper pipe, with a fan that turns on when the compressor is powered on. It also has a drain that operates once when the compressor powers on, and then every 45 seconds. It blasts air and moisture out of the lowest spot in the system.
      I didn't have any moisture captured at all. In the summer, I do get some bypassing my system, but in the winter it is pretty dry. I have a video on my other channel about my air compressor and the silly air drying set up, haha. I will post the link in another comment.

      From what I understand, they are 120V, but they have a 4 conductor plug, like you would have with 240V. They basically run a ground, neutral and then two hots, from two separate breakers ... that way, you can have two separate 120V loads in your RV and not place all the load on one breaker. Kinda confusing.

    Believe it or not, YT kept deleting my comment because I spelled out the name of the most popular free buy-sell posting site in North America that has the initials CL. Go figure....
    I thought it might have been because I spelled out the cheap tool store in the US that has the initials HF, but that wasn't it. I wonder what YT has against craig and his list?

      They are training you to just do short smalltalk comments, because it's just not worth the time to type more than "great video" or something alike.
      50/50 chance, they'll delete more elaborate comments - and as soon as they start doing so, it's worse every time, as if they are having an eye on you then.
      Takes the fun away.

      @@werner.x Yeah... in the end they won't need censorship ... they can just have the algorithm delete random comments that are more than 10 words, and people will get sick of putting in the effort. Then you have a perfect system of self censorship where you have trained the population not to say anything meaningful at all.
