The assault was the running at you. It became battery when he made contact. And both of those aggravated and are aggravated by his entering the vehicle. You know, car-jacking, like the super tough-guy example of peak Gamma personallity trying hard to be an Alpha. Which means next to nothing if you're secure and comfortable in yourself. I hope he catches all those charges.

6:31 - As a drone operator myself I would not encourage flying a drone anywhere near residential buildings like that. Sure you know you aren't peeping but the general public does not. It's all about the perception you give off when operating them and if I was someone standing near my condo and I saw someone flying that close to windows I would approach as well. I don't support how the guy handled it but I do understand where he is coming from 100% and to taunt him like that just makes things escalate. Could have been a man and explained what you were doing and apologized then left but some reason you thought of acting like a kid and making the situation worse. What is worse is that operating a drone like this around private property is what leads to more restrictions on operators and ruins it for others.
I'm an architectural photographer and in the top 99.5% of global drone pilots for distance traveled by drone. That being said 90% of what I shoot are skyscrapers, homes and condos. Flying a drone near any building or residence is FAR less intrusive than that Google car running by your home and the satellites gathering detailed visuals of your home and yard. As an architectural photographer I opeare within the law and I can film or capture media of anything visible from public space, so can you. At least when a drone is gathering visual data they aren't pinging your wireless router and grabbing personal data about you that you did not properly secured. That being said, I completely disagree with everything you just said. The laws have been eased on commercial drone use because the fact is your concerns have not materialized and it turns out, all statistics around victims of drone use are literally against the operator themselves. The public doesn't need protection, the operator does and statistics and being part of one of the largest flleets in the world, I have at least 500 drone operators that can overwhelmingly confirm it. The people causing the problems are the ones operating in an unsafe and unlawful manner. This video does not demonstrate that but it does validate my point about the risks to the operator.
@JustinBradleyPhotographer You are suggesting everything he was doing can be done from public spaces. Show me one person who can personally hover on their own 60 feet in the air and look through residential windows. You also cannot just go in private property and start walking around doing whatever you want free willy nilly and it doesn't matter whether people are there or not. But somehow, because it's a drone, people can fly in to private property anywhere there want? GMAFB! The laws haven't caught up, but they are slowly but truly.
@marcuslinton310 the FAA disagrees and our legal department disagrees. You are also talking about something completely different than i am and what he did in this video. If you have permission to fly from a property owner you definitely can fly anywhere on that property you want to, up to the 400 feet or airspace rules. Without permission you fly from public and get your shots usually you have to hover 100 or so feet above someone else's property to get your shot of the other property. Some property owners want to showcase a balcony so you fly up close to a unit and film a balcony. For residential shoots you can't have people in them so you look for the ones without people the flight is brief and always with the owners permission. But either way you are right you can't just drop into someone's backyard. But i can use the airspace over your yard to get my shots of another property as can any other aircraft, generally speaking. You can fly over someone's home but you cannot harass. Most shots we get are context and pretty far away. There's a difference between peeping and photographing a building. And relax man, it's just a flying camera. If only people would be this passionate about the opiate crisis. People are dying on the streets all day every day. But a flying camera is where you focus your energy? I'm just here to provide facts and personal experience. It's a flying camera and if you fast forward 10 years from now you won't be able to go a day without seeing one, just like airplanes just like helicopters. Prior to drones if a large building like the one in this video, needed photos, we'd fly a helicopter low and as close as possible. Drones are safer, quieter and more efficient. Everyone, including you would prefer a drone instead of a heli shaking your house for 20 minutes and I live near Cerritos, trust me you don't want massive objects full of fuel hovering over your home. Ask anyone in Cerritos who lived through that horrific crash in the 80's. And as of now there's a huge need for this imagery, it's not going anywhere. If drones were banned tomorrow we'd go back to helicopters.
I love the friendliness of everyone including the cops, besides that beach litterer of course, even on the sunniest day there can be that one dark cloud... :
I had a similar experience about a year ago while filming a thunderstorm over a field at night. It was completely dark except for the lightning, and there was no one around. I landed my drone due to increasing wind, and just as I was walking towards it, a man appeared, stepped on it, bent the landing gear, broke the propellers with his hands, and then threw it into a field. I ran towards him, but he took off. His wife even pushed me multiple times, causing me some injuries. The drone was filming and captured part of the incident. Despite clear video evidence, the case has been stuck in court for over a year. Luckily, DJI's insurance replaced the drone, but I still want compensation for the damage. It’s shocking how some people react to drones in such an aggressive way, especially when there was no reason to feel threatened.

I would love to a full psychological assessment of these people. Just what is triggering them about drones? Probably some deep seated fear of being exposed, insufficient, and/or socially enforced artificial modesty (sexual repression issues). Nothing actually to do with the drone and camera in reality
I'm 37 years old but your mom is the sweetest lady on the planet those are the people I like to spend time with. What a sweet human you're very lucky to have such a wonderful mother. I wish I had a mother that was as cool as her. My mom's a nut case can't take her anywhere without her getting an argument she's definitely a Karen. But I love her I just wish I had your mom
Ken, you are one SOLID Dude! 💯 That lunatic was lucky that he picked such a kind-hearted, and empathetic guy, such as yourself, to accost. Not only did you refuse to press charges, but, you refrained from rearranging the bone structure of his face, as well! 💯✅👊🏻👍🏼😎
Almost four minutes in, and you can see the reactions of most people, and they're not giving a damn at all, not upset, almost nothing more then 'oh, they're flying a drone' and no interest beyond that. And then you meet a lady who was so excited to see it flying, and was not at all anything like any of the stereotypical drone fans. :) Cop: "No, I want to watch",... He understands how good the evidence will be. 😁
Popped in my recommendations and I'm glad I clicked on it. As I'm living in France I will prolly never see this place in real time, that was awesome to watch and the quality is gorgeous!
I'm sorry your Mom had to see that Drone Karen acting so badly. I'm up on that boardwalk all the time, I will have to keep an eye for that guy, I hope he was not a local. You having a lot of fun there on boardwalk, I'm glad you got some nice weather. The weather has been very unpredictable this Spring at the Jersey Shore. Thanks for sharing.
People like this love to waste peoples time, the ego is the only thing they have left. If someone is upset at being buzzed by a drone you shouldn’t keep pestering them with the drone… and then the guy plays along and they instantly cry assault. Both sides are pathetic and childish.
Actually not how things work. Even if the event you dont press charges when you WOULD be able to, police departments appreciate the information and will add it to their records. The reason why this is important is if the person in question attacks anyone ELSE they can point to a prior history of events and give him a heavier sentence.
my first thought when he was flying next to the windows was "I hope no one is in there or that would be awkward" and thought I would never fly next to randoms peoples privacy like that. I totally see where then "karen is coming from" but the karen went too far lol with the taunting.
I’ve only had this happen once before. If anything much much more often I am asked about it because people (of all age ranges) are curious, and just haven’t seen an fpv drone before. One time I was flying in a park (mind you this was 2 years ago, 16 at the time, 18 now) when all of a sudden some pissed off lady made it her mission to stop me because she thought I was violating her privacy and she said the drone was too loud. For safety reasons, I always fly far away from people, but she came to me. She the. proceeded to throw a water bottle and shoe at the drone. Then I landed, tried to talk things out, only for her to call the cops. Out of fear that I’d get in trouble for going about my day and leaving the scene before explaining to the cops the situation, I decided to stay. They de-escalated it and once they left, I let the cop borrow one of my old pairs of goggles, and it blew his mind.
Im 6'4" 230lbs and work out regularly, i dont like people, im kind of an asshole and am 100% not afraid of confrontation, i also fly drones and planes, i can honestly say when someone isnt happy with my flying i stay away from them and do not antagonize them, i keep a go pro on me filming so i have a record of anyone bothering me in case THEY go to the police. This guy not only antagonized but then ran to the police when something happened due to his own antagonizing. Be a better person and park the drone and engage in dialog, let the person watch your video so they can see what you really have going on. I have done this. Turn drone haters into drone lovers instead of making new and bigger enemies...
Why would you give a stranger tge time of day? Why would you stop to explain yourself to anyone. Do you stop people when they're jogging to say things to them? No unless strangers are telling eachother have a nice day or have a genuine interest in the other person then stfu and keep your opinions to yourself. Like mom said nothing nice to say then shut up.
@@KenHeron 1. You're not going to be breaking anybody's nose and 2. There are people out there with nothing to lose and will do things a lot worse to you than you will to them over nothing. Best not to antagonize whether you're in the right or not cause someday you might meet one of those people.
Great video Ken. It’s a shame you had to run into a lunatic while trying to have fun. Enjoy your time with your Mom whenever possible. Mine passed in 1993. They are only on loan to us for a limited time.
I fly FPV drones, but I also respect people’s space and peace. My drone is extremely loud and flying it on a boardwalk disturbing people is as Karen as the Karen who reported you for assault.
That guy had no right doing what he did, and you guys didn't either. Even though I could tell you weren't peering in people's windows you were pretty close to that apartment complex or hotel whatever it was, and then you went on to mock him. I think to be honest all of you were at false.
You're right, the guy overreacted and was probably an asshole but you also just don't film this close to an apartment. Filming in the general public is ok but theres a line to privacy and it was crossed.
That has already been established. And after learning about it being banned, they apologized and left. That is not the same as knowing antagonizing and trying to destroy the property of others. And to compare the too is very dishonest. That is like comparing someone who apologized and complied after being informed that they weren’t allowed to take pictures at a museum, to someone going in with spray paint and vandalizing the exhibits.
You guys are really messing up other drone operators... You flying drones so close to people are the real problem...and this is coming from someone that has been in the hobby for many many years flying fixed wings and quads... Obnoxious is the best word that describes you, your mother and your friend.
@@KenHeronStop being childish you’re literally a grown man! All of these are actual issues and if 1 or 2 people were making these comments I would understand but you have so many comments on your videos about your drone flying being a problem and instead of this being a notice to you to maybe reflect on yourself if so many are against you, you instead go into the comments and be sarcastic or childish mean to everyone
@@copyandpastification Do you panic when you're driving and realize you exceeded the speed limit by 1mph? You seem like the type. Enjoy flying in an open field filming nothing interesting. At least you will take comfort in knowing you're following all ten trillion FAA regulations 😂😂

If you mess with a pilot thats endangering the safe operation of an aircraft. I feel like a bargain basement lawyer could argue that that is a real aircraft and that was a federal offense .
The FAA does indeed recognize drones as aircraft, so yes: is it illegal to jeopardize the safety of an aircraft by pointing a laser at it, throwing something at it, shooting at it, or jamming the signal between the aircraft and the control station.

Aww, that's very nice of you to say.
You can borrow my mom whenever you'd like. ☺️♥️
Ken, you are one SOLID Dude! 💯
That lunatic was lucky that he picked such a kind-hearted, and empathetic guy, such as yourself, to accost.
Not only did you refuse to press charges, but, you refrained from rearranging the bone structure of his face, as well!
💯✅👊🏻👍🏼😎
Great video Ken. I flew at several sites here in Cebu Philippines yesterday. Will upload the videos when I get home.
Cop: "No, I want to watch",... He understands how good the evidence will be. 😁
Great observation! You're absolutely right.
Popped in my recommendations and I'm glad I clicked on it. As I'm living in France I will prolly never see this place in real time, that was awesome to watch and the quality is gorgeous!
Should have pressed charges, people gotta know they can't act like d-bags and get away with it.
I bet he's the local drug dealer or something. Having a drone around disturbs his business.
Always a smart thing to do to make a report so that there's a record of the incident. 👍
Omg to talk like that in front of someone’s mom. What a jerk.
I can’t believe you made your mom do all the hard work and on Mother’s Day, lol.
😆
12:48 best part of the video🤣lovely that your mom went along with the joke
☺️♥️
Mom is the best shotgun co pilot ever..
She's my "wheel man" for quick getaways! 😂
@@KenHeron ya man especially with that psycho.. Thankfully nothing serious.. Can clearly see where you get your humor from 😜😂
I'm sorry your Mom had to see that Drone Karen acting so badly.
Why waste the cops time if you aren’t going to press charges?
The cops tracked him down and gave him a warning.
press lol
People like this love to waste peoples time, the ego is the only thing they have left. If someone is upset at being buzzed by a drone you shouldn’t keep pestering them with the drone… and then the guy plays along and they instantly cry assault. Both sides are pathetic and childish.
@@Aluttuh Is that the same kind of ego we find in people who make negative comments on UA-cam videos?
Actually not how things work. Even if the event you dont press charges when you WOULD be able to, police departments appreciate the information and will add it to their records.
The reason why this is important is if the person in question attacks anyone ELSE they can point to a prior history of events and give him a heavier sentence.
my first thought when he was flying next to the windows was "I hope no one is in there or that would be awkward" and thought I would never fly next to randoms peoples privacy like that. I totally see where then "karen is coming from" but the karen went too far lol with the taunting.
Hotel was empty for the off season
I mean, if you wanted privacy, would you have your windows open? Anyone could look inside. Doesn't make any sense
he's the kinda guy to cry if you took off his hoodie and his mask
🤣🤣🤣
Why is he wearing a mask? Mental health issues.
I'm assuming there's quite an assortment of issues with this gentleman.
Dude talks about scumbag behavior while harassing a family having fun. What a great guy!
I think the irony is lost on him.
That... is the way to change minds my young friend. Good job!
I like how the Karen is cold from the waist up lmao.
😆🥶
Who gave that poor Karen drone PTSD??
😂👍
probably her grandchildren lol
If you act like this in front of my mother and spout hateful obscenities... You're lucky you don't walk away with a broken nose.
I hope you got your FAA license.
I see that all the time and what I’m afraid of.
Best not to antagonize whether you're in the right or not cause someday you might meet one of those people.
he waddles like he pooped his pants. lol
Absolutely brilliant, had me crying with laughter😂😂
🤓👍
If only I had a dollar for every rime some rando accused me of spying on them with my drone when I had no idea they even existed.
RIGHT?!😂
Does it make a difference?
Your mom seems awesome. Tell her youtube says happy mothers day.
Thank you, I will♥️
Always press charges. How else with those idiots learn?
Great video Ken. It’s a shame you had to run into a lunatic while trying to have fun. Enjoy your time with your Mom whenever possible.
Mine passed in 1993. They are only on loan to us for a limited time.
You're absolutely right. Cherish our mamas.
What an adventure!! And what a great performance from your mom and Drone Rob!
Wat hebben we genoten Rob!! Eén van de keren zul je samen met ons op avontuur moeten gaan. Ik hoop dat je snel opknapt!!!
Sorry Ken, but you're mother is the star of this show. She is hilarious dude! 😂
She's the bestest! ♥️
Hate to tell you buddy.... the male form of a "Karen" is a "Ken" lmaoooooo
🤣
No, you're thinking of a Kevin.
I thought it was Darren lol
@@rossclarke8028 Nope. Don't do that to me, my life is hard enough living here in NJ as it is. 🤣
Predator becomes prey as the heron morphs into some sort of bug with antennas protruding from its head.
you have press charges .
I fly FPV drones, but I also respect people’s space and peace. My drone is extremely loud and flying it on a boardwalk disturbing people is as Karen as the Karen who reported you for assault.
Some people honestly need to grow up sometimes.
Don’t worry, Ken will grow up someday. Until then, I’m really enjoying his videos!!
@@mto_aerial I’m talking abt the drone Karen guy
@@trainking076 I know 😉
The Drone Karen runs like a Penguin who got his legs stuck in a Taffy Puller!
How else is this druggie supposed to show that he’s morally superior to you?
That guy had no right doing what he did, and you guys didn't either. Even though I could tell you weren't peering in people's windows you were pretty close to that apartment complex or hotel whatever it was, and then you went on to mock him.
I think to be honest all of you were at false.
We found a comment Karen
you should check your spelling before you speak so confidently.
@@KarlPHorse where do you get on comparing?
It is possible for two people to be wrong
You guys are really messing up other drone operators... You flying drones so close to people are the real problem...and this is coming from someone that has been in the hobby for many many years flying fixed wings and quads... Obnoxious is the best word that describes you, your mother and your friend.
Your mother is so dumb, she uses food stamps to mail cheeseburgers. 😆
@@KenHeron Ok boomer
@@copyandpastification Do you panic when you're driving and realize you exceeded the speed limit by 1mph? You seem like the type. Enjoy flying in an open field filming nothing interesting. At least you will take comfort in knowing you're following all ten trillion FAA regulations 😂😂
That was entertaining. Thanks Ken!
Thank you so much for watching!
Why’s he run like that!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Alcohol or drugs. Or possibly both! 😂
The FAA made us get pilot licenses and to register our toys as aircraft. If you shoot down or try and shoot down an aircraft thats a federal offense.
@@Frivolous23this pilot broke a bunch of FAA regs: no line of sight, flying from a moving vehicle, flying over people and vehicles, reckless flying. Understand some licensure allows certain provisions, but let’s not get on high horses here
@@gilph3indeed. Parts of the video are uncomfortable to watch, especially when he flew very close to other people without a VO.
Safe operation?! LOL he was 10 feet away from the head of an emotionally disturbed person--egging him on. Think that is allowed?
HAHAHAHA that dude runs like an NPC. I would have pressed charges, just to make an example out of him, same way FAA is doing with us.
He really does! Good observation. 😂
I'm still scratching my head trying to think what is his plan after hopping in the Surrey.. pedal the Surrey to Cuba? Now I'm this Surrey captain! One around the block Jeeves
🤣🤣
Priceless day with Mom ......Great times!
She said it was very exciting and she had a good time!
I have never seen a person run like that before.
I always like seeing drones when I’m out and about about. It’s kinda fun trying to find the pilot and I always wave & smile. However, you do need to stay away from hotels, flying by those room windows is not a very good idea. Cheers.
That particular hotel is closed down for the season.
How dare you safely fly your drone around people. What a mennace to society. A super villian to some people on the comments.
😎🤘
