    One thing is very clear, the British had messed it up with the Indian subcontinent, both during their regime and while leaving. This led to a bloodshed(both communities got affected). Funny thing is that we people still fight with each other, but except someone like Mr.Shashi Tharoor, no one has pointed out the British, who were according to my opinion, were the real culprits

      It could've been prevented if Jinnnah wished and tried for the opposite. The division only began because of the british (remember they devided bengal into hindu and muslim parts back in early 1900s) and the muslim league pushing for a separate nation. Before 1900s Hindus were living under muslim rulers and in many places muslims were living under hindu rulers. A united India could've worked but we'll never know

      I disagree completely. India can never be at full peace, nor realize its rightful potential as a world superpower, until the neighbor next door agrees to go along. With all due respect to Indians, the Germans and French were a lot more adept at empire building but never succeeded due to British control of the seas. Pakistan must be brought to heel, but, of course, cannot be by force. We are all desis and we must stop hindering each other. Peace is the door to greatness for all.

Nothing was given to us. These schemes which governments launch donot reach the common people in 2023, no such scheme or information reached my family members in 1947. We were robbed. We are struggling today as well. @@mehrtanvir3478 utter nonsense. You don't get to be the source of said "civil war" and then pretend to be wise in preventing its occurrence. That is called a self-fulfilling prophecy. Indian Muslims were very much integrated in the freedom struggle but our northern Indian elites and rich Mumbai business class were terrified of losing their relevance in a new India, especially one shaping up to be a socialist one under Nehru. Their collective fears produced Pakistan, which has never been a place of peace. The partition was created on the pretext of religion, but its raison d'etre was simple power hunger.

    • @mehrtanvir3478
      @mehrtanvir3478 6 днів тому

      @moazsharfuddin2697 in fact the condition of Muslims in India speaks a different story. The concept of majority and minority in the modern construct of European democracy did not fit well with the needs of the subcontinent, which was an amalgamation of several nations. Secularism is India's strength, but she too strives to uphold her principles, a fact that a greater mind foresaw as the obvious writing on the wall. The seeds of discord were planted much earlier. A sad state of affairs that perturbed the Ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity. A man who was offered the guardianship of United India and a man who had left the politics of the subcontinent to live a very private, and peaceful life in London. He was a champion for the downtrodden, the second-class citizen, the men who would become a 'minority'. Why, Urdu had been declared a 'Muslim' language, simply because of its Persian script, and it was not even included or recognised in the census of the subcontinental languages as noted in the pamphlet issued by Chaudhry Rahmat Ali. It surprises me how much people deny the truth of history.

If not for Pakistan, east and west, today United India would have about 35% of the population as muslim, and with separate electorates, 35% of the seats in Lok Sabha would be controlled by the Muslim League. The Mayavatis and the Yadavs and DMKs would be only too happy to join them to get power and India would have been a big Lebanon. Jinnah wanted an exchange of populations, and Nehru refused. Jinnah went ahead and did nothing while ethnic cleansing took place. Jinnah got his wish. Long before 1947, GMSyed, JInnah's right hand in Sind, had already mentioned that we will get rid of all the hindus like Hitler got rid of all the jews, when we become independent. And they did.

British who had the authority, didn’t plan properly; Congress and Muslim league officers who in spite of differences had a cordial relationships never anticipated the raw emotions. Also, Congress and ML didn’t have governance experience. There is enough blame to go around. I don’t believe it was planned or desired. The hate and animosity came much later.

    This can't be considered a mistake, especially when Modi's refusal to accede to reserved seats highlights Jinnah's forward-looking vision. Even if Jinnah's statements were not entirely serious, they were made in the context of addressing the plight of migration and mass transfer. He was right in envisioning Pakistan, although there have been issues with assimilation.

    Partition was a huge political blunder . There is perhaps no documentary evidence which reveals that Jinah admitted his fault regarding creation of pskistan. However he was disappointed about partition of Punjab and Bengal. He further got dejected after his failure to occupy kashmir by force and his very weak position regarding state of Hyd. Specifically kashmir was as per his words a bearer cheque and a felling ripe fruit in his lap.
    This is the interesting discourse but requires a suitable person with a wit and wisdom to seek substantive information related to this Hyper sensitive issue from the worthy expert.
