History textbooks in Maharashtra had a very amazing format. It could start from anywhere in the timeline with bits and pieces from any of the below: Indus Valley, Northern Invasions and Delhi Sultanate, Mughals, Marathas, Medieval Europe, European Renaissance, French Revolution, American Revolutions, World Wars, Russian Revolution - but somewhere in between it used to come down to the British in India and end ceremoniously on 15th August 1947.
The only two Portuguese nationals whose names ever featured were Vasco Da Gama and Alphonso Albuquerque. 19th December 1961 has not even a passing mention. French colonies never featured.
As for Gandhi, we actually learned how Gandhi struggled to starch his collar as a lawyer or his appendix operation when imprisoned in Yerawada. That was the depth one part was in focus and others even failed to feature.

@@nikhilvijay6022 I had to resort an objective generated answer instead of trying to do it myself, so here you go. The Indian National Army (INA) led by Subhas Chandra Bose and the disobedience by some British Indian army units did play a significant role in weakening the British colonial grip on India.
The INA's efforts and the loyalty of some Indian troops to the British Crown were wavering, which created concerns for the British. Additionally, the economic costs of maintaining the colonial empire, combined with the devastation of World War II, made it difficult for the British to sustain their rule over India.
The estimated £45 trillion extracted from India during the colonial era is a staggering figure, and it's true that the British didn't leave many other colonies voluntarily. The British departure from India was likely hastened by a combination of factors, including:
      1. _Rising nationalism and resistance_
      2. _Economic constraints_
      3. _International pressure_ (e.g., from the United States)
      4. _Military fatigue_ (after World War II)
While it's impossible to know for certain, it's possible that without the INA's efforts and the disobedience by some British Indian army units, the British might have tried to maintain their control over India for a longer period. However, the winds of change were already blowing, and the British colonial empire was likely unsustainable in the long term.

    • @Sririri123
      @Sririri123 5 місяців тому

@@nikhilvijay6022 The Indian independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi is one of the only prominent and successful examples of nonviolent resistance leading to the end of colonial extractive rule. However, it is relatively unique in its scale and success. Nonviolent movements have played important roles in various struggles for independence or civil rights, but the direct removal of a colonial power that had extracted such vast resources is rare. Most other examples of decolonization involved some level of armed resistance or geopolitical shifts 🤦‍♂️
      Some more??
The idea that the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi to Indian independence may have been emphasized or "over-inflated" by political forces, particularly those associated with the Nehru-Gandhi family, is a perspective held by some historians and political commentators. This viewpoint suggests that the narrative of Gandhi as the central figure in India's independence struggle has been reinforced and perpetuated by the political parties and governments that have been closely linked to his legacy, particularly the Indian National Congress, which was led by members of the Gandhi-Nehru family for much of India's post-independence history.1. The Role of the Nehru-Gandhi FamilyPolitical Legacy: The Nehru-Gandhi family, beginning with Jawaharlal Nehru (India’s first Prime Minister and a close associate of Gandhi), has played a dominant role in Indian politics. Nehru, followed by his daughter Indira Gandhi, his grandson Rajiv Gandhi, and later other family members, led the Indian National Congress for many decades.Narrative Control: As leaders of the ruling party for much of India's post-independence history, they had significant influence over the national narrative and historical interpretation of the freedom struggle. It is plausible that the Gandhi-Nehru family would emphasize Gandhi’s contributions as a way of legitimizing their own political authority and linking their governance to the revered figure of Gandhi.2. Gandhi’s Influence and LegacyIconic Status: Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence and civil disobedience became iconic not only in India but globally. His methods inspired other movements around the world, and his image as the "Father of the Nation" in India has been deeply ingrained in the national consciousness.Educational and Cultural Reinforcement: Gandhi’s role in the independence movement is a central part of Indian education and cultural discourse. His life and philosophy are taught extensively in schools, celebrated in films, literature, and commemorated through various national symbols (like currency and national holidays).3. Underscoring Other ContributionsSubhas Chandra Bose and Others: Critics argue that the contributions of other key figures, like Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, and numerous other freedom fighters, have not been given the same level of recognition. Bose’s armed struggle and the fear it instilled in the British administration are seen by some as equally or even more critical to India’s eventual independence.Regional Movements: Additionally, regional movements and leaders who played significant roles in the independence struggle might not have received as much attention in the national narrative, which has often been dominated by the Gandhi-Nehru axis.4. The Rarity of Nonviolent SuccessUnique Case of India: The success of nonviolent resistance in achieving Indian independence is indeed a rare phenomenon in world history. This rarity makes it a compelling narrative, one that has been celebrated and perhaps magnified because of its unique nature. Gandhi’s nonviolent approach, contrasting with the often violent and tumultuous decolonization processes elsewhere, adds to his mythos.Post-Colonial Narrative: In the post-colonial period, many newly independent nations sought symbols of moral leadership and legitimacy. Gandhi’s philosophy provided a powerful, positive image of the anti-colonial struggle, which may have contributed to the emphasis on his role.5. Political UtilitySymbol of Unity and Moral Authority: Gandhi has been used as a symbol of unity and moral authority, particularly in times of political crisis or when seeking to appeal to broad, diverse constituencies. The Congress party and other political groups have invoked Gandhi’s legacy to align themselves with these values.Political Narrative: In a democracy, political narratives are often shaped to align with the values and symbols that resonate most with the public. Gandhi’s image as the leading figure of the independence movement is one such narrative that has been cultivated over time, possibly at the expense of other contributors to India’s freedom.

This leading that you mention doesn’t happen by chance but by choice & so Gandhi Ji was the first among equals. Only a good person can be at the helm & not someone who revolts or fights or screams. Let’s be honest, every Indian wanted an independent India & the others had an equal opportunity but couldn’t create a consensus either within or with the opposition. Gandhi Ji had a seat at the table only because he chose ahimsa & non violence. Now even the British would’ve shunned him had he told them that I’m going to kill generals & revolts in your army. Gandhi wanted to awaken the nationalism among Indians by taking numerous padayatra. He went beyond caste, religion to foster unity to throw the British out. There are always good and bad about every human, Gandhi was unnecessary drawn into this, he didn't ask for position nor any other benefits post independence. He only offered to support that movement, not that he could or would restore the caliph since obviously he had no control over the Brits. It was actually a brilliant move to bring Muslims and Hindus together in the context of British politics and the islamist influence. 2. The quit India movement had some very clear demands including purna swaraj and the creation of a provisional government.
It's very easy to blame and nitpick Gandhis choices in hindsight, and obviously he made mistakes, but there is zero doubt that there was no other leader who could get the support that he could from Indian people. The revolutionary movement, as bold as it was, was doomed to failure. The only hope somewhat was Bose but he didn't really provide any alternatives. The idea of aligning with the Nazis or imperial Japan was insane and God forbid if these were to have come to fruition Indias suffering would've been unthinkable. One look at what Japan did in China or with Indian pows should make this clear.

    V. O. Chidambaram PILLAI had a long correspondence with Gandhi, not yet Mahatma, from 1915 to 1920. In 1915, when Gandhi visited Chennai (Madras then), both had met. Some people in South Africa of Indian origin had collected money to help Chidambaram and transmitted the amount through Gandhi. However, Chidambaram did not receive the money. He had some lengthy correspondence with Gandhi on the subject. In one instance Gandhi wrote a postcard to Chidambaram in Tamil with his own hand. Chidambaram was delighted on seeing the postcard and, for a moment, forgot about the money dispute.[11] However, on 4 February 1916, Chidamabaram wrote to a friend, "Rs. 347-12-0 has come from Sriman Gandhi."[11]
In 1920, Chidambaram quit the Indian National Congress, citing ideological differences with Mahatma Gandhi.

VOC was a true patriot, born free, totally committed, without looking for adoration, but geographically confined to the south . He cannot be compared with MG who was a kind of "politico" freedom fighter, with a larger reach, full of self-importance, even undharmically supporting Khalat movement. This is not to devalue MG contribution, on his own and as a part so many freedom fighters. Honestly, with or without Gandhi, India would have achieved independence, and yet Gandhi deserves our respect for his contribution. Time and destiny favoured Gandhi.

“I believe that Gandhi's views were the most enlightened of all the political men of our time. We should strive to do things in his spirit: not to use violence in fighting for our cause, but by non-participation in anything you believe is evil."
Romain To Roland French thinker writer and musicologist was a great admirer of Gandhi, and considered him to be worthy of the title "Prince of Peace". He believed that Gandhi's philosophy was time-tested and would not change, and that he showed great belief in bringing about economic equality through non-violence. Roland wrote
"He is the One Luminous, Creator of All, Mahatma, Always in the hearts of the people enshrined, Revealed through Love, Intuition, and Thought, Whoever knows Him, Immortal becomes.."

Of course, there are many factors that contributed to the success of the freedom movement. There is no doubt that Gandhi's struggle for freedom was strengthened by them. However, the uniqueness of Gandhi's movement was 'non-violence'. For the first time in history it a great power was brought to its knees not by a violent uprising, but by non-violent resistance and with love, not hate at its heart. That is the uniqueness of India finally winning freedom, even if one argues that previous movements like the 1857 first war of independence might have sent a message to the British that they could not take their occupation for granted.

The jobs as an army soldier or as clerks or (if affluent, then) as lawyers were enough run a family. One should be careful enough while choosing words to describe monumental personalities like Gandhi. Hero or a secret villain is really very derogatory remark. And one section of political class for its vested interest is targeting Gandhi. A juxtaposition of the way of life gandhi spent and leaders of this so-called political class will give us clarity. A man who spent his life wearing a 2 piece khadi attire for the whole of his life and on the other side the ones wearing an attire of lakhs of rupees each day. Every body of that period played their role for independence. The problem comes with a selective approach of redefining the roles based on one's current days affinity. And don't forget that they are representing the leaders who wrote the British pages of letter hinting how the British cab curb Quit India movement. History registers everything whether we like it or not. End of any criticism should have a constructive benefit to the society at large. These critics underestimate the memory and understanding of viewers.

LOL, Gandhi never agreed to partition, it was Patel and Nehru who agreed to it and hence CWC voted for the proposal in june 1947.
Read history, Patel was most active supporter of partition by december 1946. He gave a speech on 3 june 1947 where he said that partition is inevitable. I can share you evidences and proofs if you want.

These days no one actually likes Gandhi.
Muslims never respected him that's why 90% voted for pakistan.
Hindus also hate him now for siding with muslims and making hindus scapegoat.
Dalits hate him because of disgreements with ambedkar. He used to do passive aggressive anshan.
And now liberals are also disliking Gandhi. I am atheist too, Gandhi do not deserve this much hate but he didn't deserve this much praise to begin with. I never liked this rastrapita BS.
Non violence is most low iq move I have seen in history as if non violence work 😂
