In this episode of The Ranveer Show, we welcome again Tilak Devasher, an author, and a retired Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of India. He is currently serving as a National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) member and a consultant for Vivekanand International Foundation. He is the author of three widely known books based on Pakistan; ‘Pakistan: Courting the Abyss’ (December 2016), ‘Pakistan: At the Helm’ (July 2018), and ‘Pakistan: The Balochistan Conundrum’ (July 2019).
This episode was about decoding the complete history of Pakistan post-independence. We talked about various aspects of Pakistan and the mindset of people there. Tilak sir dwelled upon the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah & Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and how they changed the dynamics of Pakistan. He further talks about the 1971 War and decodes Pakistan's geopolitical narrative.
This was an in-depth conversation about the India and Pakistan partition. We also talked about the Pakistan's history post-independence. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did and tell us your opinions in the comments!

Please bring on Shahbaz Taseer, He's the son of Salman Taseer a sitting governor that was killed by an Extremist because he defended a Christian woman who was falsely accused of blasphemy and later his Son (Shahbaz Taseer) was kidnapped by the Taliban and escaped after 4 years. He has an amazing story
Hi ranveer pls bring atif aslam to the show
Mere bade bhai... House tour ka video lade❤❤
U are behaving like idiot boy who didn't understand his own history. Atleast read ur own history before making podcast with stalwart like Tilak.
😊😊
Tilak sir had come to my school as a chief guest in 2018. Absolutely loved his speech and I'm very excited excited to listen to this podcast. Thank you ranveer, for bringing such amazing guests!🎉
W school
Thats pretty amazing that your school brought such a distinguished personality
36:48 As a citizen of GB (Gilgit Baltistan) specifically from the Siachen region, it is accurate to acknowledge that our region lacks certain essential facilities that are available to the residents of Ladakh and Kargil. The condition of our roads is subpar, healthcare services are notably inadequate, and the region is serviced by only two universities throughout Gilgit-Baltistan.

@@youttt27 keep spreading hate
@@youttt27 aw cmon man hows it his fault?
Jinnah not knowing about the violence that will take place is an absolute joke. He knew exactly how violent his Muslim brothers could be. There were plenty of regular examples of that pre-independence dating back decades and centuries. He was the one to incite the Kolkata killings by calling for direct action day. He knew what kind of violence would erupt. He just didn't realise Hindus and Sikhs will fight back equally hard 😂 that's what he didn't expect. In other riots prior to the 1947 violence Muslims were only faced with regional communities of Hindus and it was also never something that was as big as partition which involved displacement of people and what do people value more than their roots and Heritage in India? Nothing! Plus before this Hindus were almost always caught off-guard with these violent riots started by Muslims this was different. So, when you say Jinnah didn't know the kind of violence that would erupt it's just that he didn't expect as much muslims to die 😂
Infantilization of leaders is something that buslims are very fond of doing 😂 Notice how they claim that their prophet was illiterate, couldn't read or write, how could he have known this or that??!! similarly jinnah, the UK educated barrister, had no idea the violence that would have happened??!! hilarious 😭
"He just didn't realise Hindus and Sikhs will fight back equally hard"......
How could he when our great leader gandhi decided to side with the buslims during the 1921 moplah roits and 1946 noakhali roits. This is what he said - 'Hindus should not harbour anger against buslims even if the latter want to destroy and kill us all. We should face death bravely. If buslims established their rule after killing Hindus we'd be ushering in a new India" 😭🤣
Spot on.
U nailed it
Tilak sir...Vikram sood... ranganathan sir...J sai...shiv khera..shiv aroor..a lot more...these guys are the best to listen to...i hope u'll keep inviting these legends❤
Because they tell you what you want to hear. Half truths.
@@baala9 and we should suppose that you are the purveyor of truth?! Hahaha
@@baala9 Source: trust me bro? On what basis are they saying half truths? Proof please.
The amount of sufferings the Bengali Hindus & Punjabis have suffered because of these radical islamists is beyond explanation !!
I still remember my grandmother telling me how Hindus were butchered during direct action day & Noakhali riots !!
These jihadis are still the same today & way worse !!
Absolutely
There are stories of Muslims in Bengal being tortured out of their homes too. It was all an unfortunate situation 😞
@@Tasnim33 Still negligible !! The atrocities on the Bengali Hindus from 1905 -1947 , 1946 Noakhali riots , 1971 or even till today by the Muslims ( Both bengali & others) is beyond explanation!!
May be there is certain section of extremist in every culture religion and society. As a human we cant accept any of these thousands of muslims killed and murdered by extemist hindu groups and sikhs there are thousand of stories and we all share same soft corner for everyone who were targeted
@@Tasnim33an entire army came to murder Hindus in bangladesh. In kashmir Hindus were killed by Muslims. Don’t tell me it is the same level
Many thanks to you Tilak Sb!! I am going to read your books - loads of respect from Lahore!
I am watching every episode and I am so thrilled to see what kind of knowledge and exposure you are offering to the youths. We owe you Ranveer! Thanks a lot! We want more Ranveers like you, but you are rare.. :) I am a mother of 15 years old and he is the one who introduced me to you.
See, now, this is the kind of comment I'd like ranveer to acknowledge and like! Yours is the kind of audience that he also perhaps wished to reach🙏
It’s naive to think that Jinnah didn’t expect violence of a massive scale considering that it he who incited the Direct Action Day killings in 1946.
Exactly
I think the reason he thought it was a mistake is it would have been difficult to run the country without the major business class (hindus n Sikhs)

My god! what an episode!!! I was so waiting for Mr. Devasher to be back on your show for 2nd episode. Please bring 3rd one soon. Just wow. Thank you, Ranveer.
I really have to THANK YOU for showing us another side of the coin & this was truly an inspirational but more of an eye opening Podcast. I remember that renowned & educated journalists have commented about understanding this perspective about the history taught to us. My heartfelt gratitude, please continue your amazing work. Now, at least I can evaluate our stand & the so called broken system we live in
Mr Tilak have written few books on same context. You can try them
I’m currently reading “Pashtuns.”
Unfortunately I prefer audiobooks, so if you have a link for Pashtun please share it
There’s only one truth though…and it’s not subjective.
16:43 As a Bangladeshi I would like to add that A K Fazlul Haque, one of the prominent leaders in Bengal wanted three separate countries in a conference arranged at Lahore in 1940. But after the 1946 Kolkata riot, everything seems to have changed. And as the heat of the moment of Muslim brotherhood rose the separate East Bengal movement hadn’t seen any light. Till this day I feel ashamed of being ruled by Pakistanis and feel the pain my people went through pak military atrocities.
Are u a Muslim Bangladeshi?
Why are Bangladeshis so hateful towards us nowadays tho?
@@inchlund413why does it matter?
We did not give you the rights which you constitutionally had, starting from 1958 onwards. We created the reasons to split up. As Pakistanis we are ashamed with what we did to our brothers.
which 3 countries kindly explain AK Fazlul haque views
Tilak sir, please speak about the condition of POWs. During 1971 War, my dad (Corp of Engineers) was posted at Jagannath Gunj in Assam at India-East Pak border. This issue is very close to the hearts of many army kids like me. It could have been my dad. I wasn't even born then, but still. Why can't we get our "Missing 54" back?
Ranveer should really consider hiring some other talanted interviewer to ask question the more I see him the more I realise he's just a dude who likes ask random question and put it on UA-cam to some of the best minds out thier .No research,no homework, no prerequisites just straight up asks random question at back of his mind I bet he doesn't even prepare them before the podcast
I mean seriously dude I've really loved some of your podcast but you're being increasingly amature you should read Mr.tilaks books and asked him to expand on them, indo- pak war are basically general knowledge at this point
IN ALL IN ALL REALLY DO SOME REDING AND RESERCH ON RELATED TOPIC BEFORE THE PODCAST
BEST WISHES ❤
A well explained and near to realism.....what a podcast 👍 @beerbiceps
Tons of Felicitations from 🇵🇰
Tilak Sahab 👍
Dear Ranveer, please call Tilak sir for the third episode soon! Amazing Podcast! Hats off Tilak Sir
I was really waiting for this episode I don't know why it took you so much time after you told us that next episode will be a week ahead! But still thank you for this one. This is really very unbiased information from sir!❤❤
With all due respect, Ranveer and his generation are so American aligned... one could easily see via questioning Ranveer was finding it difficult to comprehend why India did not align with US and Russia supported India in 1971.
Cry cry
They are not allied with anyone except themselves. They think the west, especially the US is cool and happening, and if we ( India) had very good relations with the US and west it would be so much easier to get tourist and work visas to go there. And after coming back to India I can boast to my friends and family of how great the US is, and what a blast we had there.
I noted that too lol. His face..why was it so difficult to understand that we were not taking sides. I think it was such a strong move to take for such a nascent country. So that we don't get sucked in the power battle of two superpowers. Even now our position is not too far different, though we call it multialignment. I mean there is ofcourse a difference, we look at our interest 1st but yk.
Russia stood with us when none of the others did… so even though Russia might look weak or rebellious, it’s that massive respect and loyalty that we have towards Russia and we continue doing the same
I may not be familiar with this guest, but I want to express my sincere respect for him. As a Pakistani, I believe that discussions on history can sometimes be influenced by nationalistic propaganda. In my opinion, this individual is the only Indian voice I would consider listening to when it comes to discussing Pakistani history
You should watch the previous episode of him also
A lot of Indian voices say the exact same things tilak devershar does !!!!
Unfortunately Not all Hindus who came to India at that time got a property because my and Grandmother small around 14 years old when they came to India and they suffered alot bt with God's grace they made it Really good living in less time
I know all this because since my childhood I have grown up listening to their stories .
Exactly!! It’s very true
Hi! My ancestors were from Bihar India and got settled in Karachi.....i really enjoyed ur show and listening to the whole saga from an intellual across the border.

This guy is ocean of knowledge (Gyaan ka sagar) As a Pakistani agrees to him to a great extent
Ranveer, please invite Chandrachur Ghose to discuss his new book 1947-1957 India: The birth of a republic. Fascinating book about how politics formed in India and how those thoughts shaped our entire political conscience and are relevant to this day. Can be a long discussion. Thank you 🙏

Excellently summarized by Tilak Deveshwar sir
If you can get Syed muzammil shah on your podcast (Pakistani journalist) then I’d go crazy. He’s the one that unapologetically spits facts and he would be so very important to discuss the truth
Muzamil is on pay role of Pakistani army and just speak to win the hearts of Non Pakistanies.
@@rizhas9008 ok what proof do you have for this. I’ll believe it but you need to have sort of backing for your claim, otherwise it’s just your opinion.

Why ranveer is so apologetic to his pakistani audiences even for the factual things? Doing everything to please everyone is start of the fall for anyone. Just be authentic and not care for catering to ALL the audiences. Only then you can stay where you are.
Remember, people love the person for what he is not what he becomes to please them.
Great discussion with a great man 🔥
Excellent - last point - by Tilak Saab!
Bring someone with Knowledge of Afghanistan , their history is quite interesting too, the one country in the Asia Pacific which the British found very difficult to manage..
The episode looked like Ranveer had no idea what and how to keep the communication going. None of the questions felt you have brought the real perspectives of Tilak Devasher .
Tilak Sir has such a good deep voice.Plesure listening to him.

That Pushtoon from Kashmir and Ranveer's interaction was the coldest moment of the episode. Come on, Ranveer, you could have concoct something better to prove your patriotism.

From POK 🏔️ to Kashmir exodus 💔 to Bangladeshi intention 🇧🇩 and further, they are the major geopolitical negative scenarios 😥.
We are sandwiched between the big powers Russia USA UK 🇵🇰 even INDIA ironically speaking that’s actually true and this shit goes own

You should invite Istiaq Ahmed, a professor of subcontinental political science who lives in Europe, to bring a Paksitani rationalist perspective on the history!
Tilak sir is brilliant !
Ranveer, please also do a podcast on why the Pak economy has fallen to such an extent. Many young folks may not know, but for the longest time, in the 70s 80s and 90s, Pak was waaay ahead of India and always had better prosperity and projections. It was not inconceivable that Kashmir would go to Pak.
It can't be as simple as no more funding from the US and hence economy has faltered, there have to be systemic issues and it would have to be a sequence of bad decisions - a chain reaction.
Hoping that this discussion will raise a number of issues that even India should be mindful of.
Pak was waaay ahead of India? utter bull
@@sandeephalder2562 PK was ahead for a few decades during the cold war because it would get billions from the US
They would send out their army personnel as mercenaries for hire eg In Jordan , black September, General Zia and troops killed all the Palestinian refugees...
It is that simple.
dude they are facing everything because of zia and mushraff and their policies when they came to power. radicalisation. no democrary. etc etc. it took 30 years for the after effects to be evident.they were too much obsessed with india instead of focusing on building their nation. they focused on planning to destroy india.they spent all their money on unwanted stuff . its very simple
Fantastic and illuminating conversation as always. Next time you meet Tilak sir, you can ask him what went right for India. I mean we've heard so much about corrupt politicians that we've had, but then what worked out for us, so that we are in a good position today on the world stage 😊😊
USSR collapsed
Rajiv, a socialist assassinated
World refused to loan money
IMF out conditions to open economy

Bhai I really enjoy your podcasts, you are doing a great job. Now having said that there is one thing that I want to suggest is that it's better you do some basic research on the subject that you are discussing in your show, because if you are inviting an expert like Tilak sir you should take that opportunity to have a deeper understanding of the matter rather than barely scratching the surface.
Earlier podcasts with Tilak sir were much better this one looks very basic as you were just probing the commonly known facts.

If someone wants to know about 1971 war I would recommend IB71 movie of vidyut jamwal sir & It's a great that same topic is included in today's podcast.
I was actually thinking about that movie when they were talking about the land mass in between and the logistics.. IB71 is such an underrated movie.. it has so much for us to realize what all defense has to do behind my scenes .. 😢 also I see ranveer always gives movie references in such situations... he din in this one so it appears he hadn't seen it ..

Why do you have to apologise for saying Virat greater than Babar? I mean it's pretty clear. I can understand Ronaldo vs Messi rivalry since both fanbase has solid arguments in their favour.
The non alignment movement actually was a great move initiated by Nehru and initial Congress government. Despite the all the hate, we have to appreciate Nehru for the forward thinking that has benefited us majorly today. Even today, India follows the same ideology in terms of foreign policy.
Multi - Alignment is our Policy now, under the Garb of Non - Alignment we were always tilted towards THE USSR, Indo- US relations got better only after the 2008 Nuclear Deal.....
Non alignment policy was okay but multi alignment is best policy which we are doing right now. But in any situation when you are not in any group... the most important thing is building own security army with good weapons where nehru just done worst things so he get the flake of the people. You say you are not with anyone but you are not remain ready to fight or secure the nation then you remain very vulnerable... which made them almost go in USSR group which defeated main non alignment 🤦♂️
Wrong....grossly wrong...we were never non aligned. We were with USSR all along. It costed us our permanent seat in UNSC, it costed us kashmir, it costed us balonchistan and coco island....Nehru was not far sighted, he was selfish...
Friends... please speak to some one of that era .....what they felt when India got independence... How our leaders got India out of British hand's....what were the geo political powers at that time...how weakened we were economically... don't forget...our constitution give us India togather....we were fighting British for freedom but we were fragmented into 546 princely states... so don't jump the gun.... those leaders had empty hand's to begin country progress.... world around them was different.. just out of 2nd world war....... don't criticise Nehru bcos he was Congress man...he was the pm of nation..... maybe 50years later current PM could be judged poorly for his performance.....each PM irrespective of the political party...they work best in the current geo political environment.... India is our motherland and collective conscience is prime.... 🙏🙏
