She died on Long Island, my neck of the woods, she was born in Brewster and raised in Armonk-A Westchester girl, a New Yorker-And maybe the most beautiful sexual talented woman I’ve ever seen. God rest her wonderful soul.
Oh, I was just 19 when this came out. A HUGE hit in Europe back then, it ruled the summer of 1984 🤗 In Germany, Lauras cover and RAF's original were #1 and #2 back to back in the charts. This is the original, which one do you like more? Laura's voice is better IMHO. ua-cam.com/video/1_TQjEn6cpQ/v-deo.html
The song from 1984 (gave a bit of a disco beat when disco was all but declared dead then) it was featured on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and more recent video game with the same name. House music club scene surely loved it. Reached #4 in the US and #1 in 3 other Nations as a worldwide hit. The song Laura said in a interview was about losing your self-control to the night or to someone. The masked man and dancers. There’s a shot where the man comes into her bedroom, taking her into the night. He appears and disappears. MTV didn’t play it. They said it was risqué. It was played in Europe and everywhere else. I didn’t think it was bad at all.
A lot of people think "funky town (1980)" was the last US disco hit but actually some disco songs did hit the top ten after that year. But yes, after 1979 disco did largely fall out of the top 40, but not completely.
This is genuine 80s. The killer tone is unmistakable.
This is a huge 80's classic so you can imagine it was played everywhere. Still sounds good to this day.
1984.Self Control released. 1984 George Orwell’s book released thirty-five years earlier in 1949. Interesting world we live in.
Laura is another underrated singer
This song got radio airtime and played at most clubs
This song is really amazing. 😄😄😄
One of my fave 80s songs & also top 5 'nite songs'! ♥
She passed away on this month on the 26th of 2004 almost 20 years ago.

Ooh no. I had no idea she died. She was ahead of her time.
Summer of 1984… the golden age of MTV… the ending was a little raunchy for the time, but she refused to change it.
This was a huge club hit.

The original was made by the artist Raf, imo his version just goes a bit harder, but I enjoy Laura's version also.
Yeah his is really good I have seen it and heard it. They both are good.
glad you enjoy them, thanks for the comment:)@@ericaespinosa4030

Her other song Gloria is also featured in Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories and in Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain as a unlockable mixtape
