Stevie asked Tom to write her a song that sounds like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Tom wrote this song for her, which went to number 6 on the American Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks in 1981. It was also the first single off of Nicks's debut album, Bella Donna.

He said " You have the power to recreate yourself and be successful again. She went on to write Landslide after that. Good friends oftentimes know you better than you know yourself.
Landslide is from 1975, the eponymous Fleetwood Mac album right after she and Lindsey Buckingham joined the band. She didn't know Tom at that point. The Heartbreakers recorded their first album in 1976.

They did another duet together that's not as well known. More of a ballad, acoustic with very emotional deliveries. "Insider", from the album "Hard Promises."
Stevie and Tom where very dear friends. That's why they have so much chemistry. I love hearing her talk about him. She performed with the Heartbreakers often, and they made her an honorary Heartbreaker.
Tom Petty once said that he & the Hwartbreakers had adopted a little sister, Stevie loved Tom and said once she wanted to leave Fleetwood Mac and join the Heartbreakers. When she went solo, she begged Tom to write a song for her to sing...they collaborated on more than one song .....have a listen to Insider another Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty classic. When Stevie went solo Mick Fleetwood told her that she would be back and that she would be a failure on her own. She ended up collaborating with some amazing people and produced some amazing solo work and proved that she was a songwriting dynamo and the true pulse of Fleetwood Mac. Although she did reunite with Fleetwood Mac on several occasions to tour, her solo career and songs produced as such remain the most iconic
thank you guys I've been waiting for you guys to react on Stevie Nicks duets and this one is one of my favorite ones but also Leather And Lace with Don Henley from the Eagles and Whenever I Call You " Friend " with Kenny Loggins this are remarkable and iconic songs
This song was on fire. It’s from her first solo album Bella Donna. When she looks in the camera 📷 I still get heated all over. This is her biggest solo charting hit. Billboard number two
Stevie wanted to be in Tom Petty's band and be a Heartbreaker, but the rule had always been "no girls". He called her an honorary Heartbreaker. They were very close friends. Should read up on their history and her words after his passing. Much Love and Peace!!
Awesome duet love Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty. They both have a distinctive voice. A combination of two great and legendary musicians, singer songwriters and had a loving friendship. RIP Tom. Great reaction. :D
Other duets with Stevie are "Whenever I call you friend" with Kenny Loggins, "Leather and lace" with Don Henley (Eagles), "Can't get enough" with B.B. King (she's background vocals but you still hear her voice), "Sorcerer" with Sheryl Crow, & "Cheaper than free" with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics).
Stevie Nicks' "debut" solo album, "Bella Donna" is a wonderful work that flows so well from first track to the last one. If you can find her "White Wing Dove" concert that was shown on HBO back in the early 80s, I recommend giving it a watch! She and her band did a fantastic job on that show.
Oh yes one of my favourite Duet of Stevie…. man I was so in love with this song & Tom …yay keep it going many more Duetts to go guys you’ll gonna both enjoy 😊
There’s a live version of Tom Petty’s “Learning to Fly” with Stevie that is a MUST LISTEN! It’s an incredible acoustic version and the crowd singing the chorus at the end is the most beautiful thing you’ll ever hear. Instant goosebumps.
Stevie does a couple other really cool duets with Don Henley (from Eagles) called "Leather and Lace" and with Kenny Loggins called "Whenever I Call You Friend"

This was Stevie’s debut solo album. Her manager was Petty’s, too. As they were wrapping up the album, her manager/boyfriend said “But you don’t have a single.” He offered to talk to Tom about a duet. This was Tom’s song ready for his next album. The recorded a few other songs together (Insider and Needles & Pins) that were not released as single but we’re on Petty albums. They were lifelong friends.
Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty were always Great Friends Check out Tom Petty - You got Lucky - Don't do me like that - Don't come around here no more - Refugee Also Stevie Nicks and Don Henley duet - Leather and Lace!
Stevie was dating Tom's manager and really really really wanted to do a duet with Tom. Tom wasn't feeling it (he says so in interviews "we didn't know what Stevie wanted".). So his manager talked him into thinking this song (already written) was more from a woman's perspective and he would share this one with Stevie. He wasn't thrilled, but obviously they became lifelong friends until his sad passing. Stevie decided she wanted a duet with Tom and she made it happen. Love that woman to pieces.
Stevie Nicks has 2 other awesome duets: "Leather and Lace" with Don Henley (Eagles) and "Whenever I Call You Friend" with Kenny Loggins.
I hereby second both of these nominations. Great tunes.

That's Eagles drummer, Don Henley for those who may not know. He sings "Hotel California".

Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty were good freinds. They were both from Fla.He called her one of the Heartbreakers.
Stevie is the Queen of Rock, really miss Tom Petty, him and David Bowie were and always great, God bless them both.
Thank you for doing this. I don't know how many requests you got but I know I was one. A couple of times. Great song of the 80's
There’s a live version of Tom Petty’s “Learning to Fly” with Stevie that is a MUST LISTEN! It’s an incredible acoustic version and the crowd singing the chorus at the end is the most beautiful thing you’ll ever hear. Instant goosebumps.
I totally agree. You can feel the love from that crowd!
Ditto.
Songs like this one make me wish and hope that music like this will return some day soon.
Stevie’s duet with Don Henley”leather and lace” is wonderful. Stevie and Don were exes.
Always loved this song. So glad you found it.
I love Stevie Nicks!!! Great song!!!
Stevie and tom have always been joined at the hip. Shes and honorary heartbreaker. They got a great duet called needles n pins also
Stevie does a couple other really cool duets with Don Henley (from Eagles) called "Leather and Lace" and with Kenny Loggins called "Whenever I Call You Friend"
Nicks and Petty have 2 VERY unique voices. That's what makes them jibe so well.
I loved this song the very first time I heard it! It didn’t even have to grow on me! I absolutely love it. You should check out some of Linda Ronstadt’s amazing duets with Jame Ingram, Aaron Neville, Smokey Robinson, Chuck Berry, and many others! Great reaction 🌺✌️
Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty were always Great Friends
Check out Tom Petty - You got Lucky - Don't do me like that - Don't come around here no more - Refugee
Also Stevie Nicks and Don Henley duet - Leather and Lace!
Along with Annie Wilson, her voice was made for rock n roll. Love me some Stevie.❤
Stevie Nicks has also done a duet with Chris Issac. An old song - Red River Valley.
I think it's fabulous!
I love you for recognizing Tom's voice! My husband is a trained singer and always rags on Tom, but for me his voice is so unique and amazing
I have to second Stevie's duet with Kenny Loggins, "Whenever I Call You Friend." A classic from 1978.
