The only other drummer with this kind of energy through the whole track has got to be Simon Phillips playing live with Pete Townshend and David Gilmour for "Give Blood".
Youhave done one of the best reaction vids to one of the best live performances. I have tried to watch every reaction to this performance because it is so good, yours is the first where I actually enjoyed watching your reactions. excellent
this is he song that got Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits signed - you have to imagine this coming out in 1978 surrounded by Aerosmith and Van Halen - this is closer to Bob Dylan - it is based on a true story when mark saw a sad band playing to nobody in a pub called the "sultans of Swing"
I love the break at about 8:55. I always need a breather there too. Mark is just getting started with his guitar. The way he makes it talk after this is incredible! Drummer, keyboardist, bass, rhythm guitar players all 100% spot on. Have a good time and must have been a heck of a show. Thanks to UA-cam for letting me watch this.

The very first video used to start MTV in Britain was Dire Straits and Sting's video "Money for Nothing". It's a superb tune too. Mark Knopfler's solos can reduce the hardest of men to tears.
Take a listen to the studio version now that you have heard the epic live version. The studio recording was done with a different drummer, a different rhythm guitar player and no keyboards. This was the band at their peak on live performances. You have probably have seen Money for Nothing, an award wining MTV video. They have many different styles of songs, many radio friendly and some long compositions like Telegraph Road.

I listened to this when I was your age and it blew me away then. Its nice to see you ladies reacting so positively, after all these years this recording has been around. Really enjoyed your reaction🙂 You hit the nail on the head! Keep up the great work!👍
Now, go back and listen to "Tunnel of Love" from the same recording. Sultans is a masterpiece - Tunnel of Love . . . I have no words. Believe me, these two songs, on "Alchemy" (this recording) and in "Wembly Does The Walk" are some of the greatest performances ever. Period. I bet I've listened to both a thousand times, or more, and they never, ever get stale. Mark is a genuine genius, and he made Dire Straits an unforgettable band.
I was happy to see them live 2 times in my hometown, about 30 years ago... And I'm happy because such young maids like you are liking this fabulous music. Too bad, for now there's no more like this in our world. God bless you and us all, greetings and best wishes from 🇦🇹

We hear this a lot, but Mark Knopfler REALLY IS one of the best guitarists around. Listen to anything he's done, solo or with the band. He doesn't use a plectrum (pick) - everything is finger picking. That's what creates his unique sound.
Hey Mia and Juliet I was 10 years old when the song was new in 1978 I still remember hearing it the first time sitting in the back of my parent's car back then. I love the way you both really hear the music and feel it. Hope you both are doing good. Great video thanks!
Dire Straits, they have quite a lot more masterpieces...each masterpiece is telling a story...takes you along that journey with the song. Some masterpieces are so great and powerful that it will bring tears to your eyes...fills you with incredible emotions...and that's the God given unique talent of Mark Knopfler...the songwriter, lead singer and guitarist... Kudos to you two who pointed out the exact things that a masterpiece can make you feel or hits straight to your soul 😉
Standing ovation for both of you girls! You really channeled Mark Knopfler's virtuosic emotion driven guitar beauty directly to your hearts. Your comments are squarely on point. Another Dire Straits classic in a similar vein is "Tunnel of Love" - I am touched by "Sultans" but even more moved by "Tunnel". If you can't fit it into your schedule of reactions, take a look and listen to the video of this performances in London in 1985 just for the joy of it (Knopfler varies each performance). I know it will get to you if "Sultans" did. This one opens with a 4 minute introduction to the actual introduction, which is a brief keyboard sample of "The Carousel Waltz" from one of the classic Broadway musicals going back to I believe the 1950s - "Carousel". The outro guitar solo usually has me on the edge of serious weeping - the beauty of it so touching. I'd also recommend listening to the studio version, but I'll link the 1985 live performance: ua-cam.com/video/uXQpetZ7nX0/v-deo.html
@Jack Empson, reading your comment I wondered if I had written it right after the girls released this reaction video and maybe the YT comment section was out of synch as often happens, and replaced my handle with yours! It all comes down to that these are the exact words I'd use and in the same order you wrote them. So hell yeah, "Tunnel of Love" - a song that just like JE, always has had me weeping at the beauty of Knopfler's other worldly guitar work from the time I bought the album when it was released some number of decades ago. Push the new stuff aside and react to Dire Straights. The new bands' music will have plenty of time to age gracefully and earn their way on to your channel when they can stand up to the challenge of time - the definition of classic!. 😜
Love how much you got into it - so cool ! One of my very favorite bands. Classic song. The last 5 instrumental minutes are brilliant! As you both noticed! Right on, Mia: “just really listen”; and right on, Juliet, noticing how well they all played together! All around outstanding reaction, thanks!!
I saw these guys in the mid 80's and loved their stage presence. You called it so well that their music is so expressive. I love the fact you are discovering great music together. Keep up the great reviews! BTW Dire Straits has a huge catalogue for you to discover, check out "Brothers in Arms" and "Industrial Disease"
Yall are too cool 😎, I really dig seeing the younger generations listening to the music I listened to growing up. I'm an 80's kid, I miss the 80's, GREAT TIME, GREATEST YEARS EVERRRR!!!
The simple fact is Mark Knopfler's career is nothing short of legendary. He has & continues to work with musicians from many different genres of music. Rockabilly, Rock and Country legend Chet Adkins, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton. If you have seen the movie The Princess Bride (and if you haven't- WHY NOT????) the song at the end of the movie is Storybook Love a song by Late singer Willie DeVille and Mark Knopfler. Watch the movie first if you watch the video as the video has scenes from the movie. Seriously watch The Princess Bride you won't be disappointed
Dear ladies, this is one of the greatest songs ever written and performed. Sultans of the Swing it's an icon of the 80's and always was played in a different way, but this version is my favorite, it's the energy, the improvisation, the joy, the joy to play. Some years ago Mark Knopfler came to Mexico to play, and when played Sultans of the Swing I discover my self with tears rolling down my face, tears of joy. Turn it up, again! Great job, girls, love your videos, two girls capable of perceiving and feeling music and the meaning of music. Greetings from Mexico.

Love this music. Power of the 80’s era. Memories of my high school years etc. I’m Class of 1987.
Telegraph Road from Alchemy live is also a masterpiece 🙋♂️
Dire Straits, they have quite a lot more masterpieces...each masterpiece is telling a story...takes you along that journey with the song.
Some masterpieces are so great and powerful that it will bring tears to your eyes...fills you with incredible emotions...and that's the God given unique talent of Mark Knopfler...the songwriter, lead singer and guitarist... Kudos to you two who pointed out the exact things that a masterpiece can make you feel or hits straight to your soul 😉
yes the instruments are talking
Mark Knopfler is also a Movie Music Composer
the Album with the Notting Hillbillies is als awsome
Nice to see how genuine and funny 😄 you girls are! 👍🏻👏🏻
Andre the Giant was great! And drunk! WOOO!!!
Great reaction girls! Love your passion.
That's the point. The whole, entire band together and make a masterful piece of music. That's the point in all forms of music!
Thank you for this awesome reaction to an iconic performance! They were all jamming out and having fun!!
Blackfoot - Highway Song live in Zurich is another great live version
This is Pure Fire!!!
GREAT, GREAT, GREAT reaction ladies... If you truly felt this song in your heart and your soul like we all do you have to check out "Telegraph Road" Alchemy Live version...
Mark Knofler its a best guitarrist of rock, espero que escuchen más de Dire Straits y de Mark, saludos desde México :)
saludos Javier!
Best Live Performance EVER!!!!
Clapton once said he felt a bit intimidated to play with Mr. Knopfler. Not an easy feat to accomplish, unless your name is JAMES MARSHALL HENDRIX!! HANDS DOWN THE GREATEST MUSICIAN WHOEVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE EARTH!! WOOO!!!
Dire Straits are just brilliant and everyone in this group are very talented musicians, the drummer was out of this world, I have never tired of them in fifty years almost when I first heard of them, thank you for your reaction
The next song you should hear from them is Tunnel Of Love live from Wembley.
What a great band they were. I love that you girls aren't afraid to play live versions.
Yeah, you got it girls..I was probably your age when I saw them in concert 1979 in my hometown Liverpool UK 😊 the Liverpool Empire June 9th, I was 18..😊 my older sisters watched the Beatles there in the 60s 😳 but I was only 8 so I couldn't go to that one, ☹ everyone fell out of the Empire after the Dire Straits concert, onto the street and all looking like 8 year olds and they'd just seen father Xmas for real 🤣🤣🤣 they where BRILLIANT 😉 try Telegraph Road, Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in Arms, Private Investigations.....actually JUST LISTEN to every song..personally I fell in love with Mark, 🥰 you MUST LISTEN TO SUPERTRAMP..👍 START WITH GOODBYE STRANGER LIVE...1979...I saw these as well...❤
