One of the greatest rock performances of all time. Knopfler is one of the greatest guitarists ever and Terry Williams absolutely murdered those drums. I am an old lady. I've probably heard this a thousand times. It still gives me goosebumps.
Have to disagree although up there with the best for me best ever live performance “Janis Joplin Big Brother and the Holding Company Ball and Chain at the Monterey Music Festival
Me too. I feel sorry for the young they do not get to see these types of performances live when there was so much competition by so many talented musicians.
Mark Knopfler (in red) is still working at age 75. His latest album came out in April 2024! He did 6 studio albums as part of Dire Straits, 10 solo albums, 9 film scores, and lots of collaborations with other artists. So if you like his stuff, there's plenty to dig into. He also owns a recording studio in London
Mark is a god on the guitar and his voice is beautiful. Terry on the drums is out of this world and Alan on the piano is amazing. The whole group is just perfect and the harmony is top notch. The whole "Alchemy" concert was amazing, make sure you watch "Telegraph Road" - a masterpiece. "Tunnel of Love" live at Wembley is also an absolute masterpiece, the autograph will blow you away. It was also a great concert and definitely worth seeing.
@BimuReacts check out The HU. Mongolian folk/metal outfit. 'Sugaan Essaana' is well known as the Soundtrack to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. My favorite song is 'Wolf Totem'. Amazing range of folk and modern instruments, and Mongolian Throat Singers. Amazing and very unique band.
@@GardenFolklifeoh come on! Bands wrote and played live their own music. Go search UA-cam for ‘Rick Beato Why are bands mysteriously disappearing’ to see his take on why this occurred. No one’s denying there are talented musicians out there producing music - the question you should ask yourself is ‘when and where can I actually see them live in full concert? …..( and why not?)
It was filmed in July 1983, no computer assistance required. I was 18 at the time and I was at this gig, its still one of the best, I think for talent across the whole band, this gig was the best. the line up was: Mark Knopfler - vocals, guitars, he wrote the songs as well, all round genius! John Illsley - bass, vocals; Hal Lindes - guitar; Terry Williams - drums, he was the unexpected star, just brilliant! Alan Clark - keyboards; Another genius Tom Mandel - Back up keyboards; Next you have to react to Telegraph Road, same show, its even better!
I'm 77 and I would give my eye teeth to have been at this gig ! I have followed them from day one back in the seventies and for me they are " simply the best - better than all the rest " ?
I love that they are all having so much fun. Everyone on that stage giving their all and at the top of their game. When they are having fun, so are we!!
For me this is the best live performance by any band at any point since the dawn of rock and roll. Flawless and simply outstanding. Mark Knopfler is the top 5 greatest guitarists of all time, too.
You have just watched one of the greatest live performances from anyone of all time, the whole band is amazing, but Mark Knopfler is the genius, he wrote all the songs, plays lead guitar and sings. There are many great songs from them, next react to Telegraph Road from the same concert, Alchemy Live.
You are so refreshing! You don't stop the video all the time more than necessary. And you embrace it without going nuts. And you like music obviously^^
Welcome to Mark Knopfler and band. He's one of the greatest songwriters, guitarists and performers to ever grace this beautiful planet. One of a kind artist, the full package and rightly regarded as one of the greatest artists of all time, whether with Dire Straits or as a solo performer. I am excited for your journey of discovery ahead. Enjoy. They were at one point the biggest band in the world, but none of that really matters. Highest echolon of music and he continues to write many more masterpieces. Great reaction.😮
if you thought this was great, then you need to hear Telegraph Road from the same album. Also bear in mind that this band was from the 70's - probably long before you were born ? I've been following them from day one and I'm now 77 years old. They are a rock and roll phenomena of the highest calibre and their lead guitar and band leader Mark Knoffler plays using only his thumb and two fingers !! - no pick! Mark, himself, is over 70 now ! and still doing it.
I'm so grateful that I grew up with this music; I am now also getting a kick out of watching new generations discover this band! Mark Knopfler is a guitar virtuoso and finger-plucking genius (unlike most guitarists, he doesn't use a pick), and he is best known for his unique and spot-on tone, nuanced phrasing and masterful skill as a guitarist. Fun fact-- Mark is actually left handed, but is playing brilliantly with his right hand! Mark was also a gifted story-teller/song-writer and composer for the band, and he would go on to compose musical scores for films, as well as pursuing a solo music career that continues today. The demo track of "Sultans of Swing" (1977) secured the band it's first record deal. This is one of their best performances, no doubt: That said, if you want to really see the breathtaking live musicianship of this band, and the kind of epic musical masterpiece they could collectively produce, you have to treat yourself to their performance of "Telegraph Road" from this same Alchemy Live concert. Mark's composition ensures that the talents of every member of the band shine as well. Finally, no introduction to Dire Straits would be adequate without "Brothers in Arms"; you can watch the official video to grasp the lyrics and meaning of the track, but then you have to treat yourself to their live performance from 'On The Night'... still gives me chills! Welcome to the wonderful world of Dire Straits 😁
The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising. Even road tripping. What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having. Making a living like that wouldn't suck.🤑🤑🤑🤑 Shoutout to the production folks for making the best live concert video clip ever. 🤩🤩
Mark's later compositions drifted into something more folk but still on another level. Absolute master of 'gaps' in the music - slowing down, going quiet.
He plays the guitar, he sings, he wrote the song. I enjoy how the keyboard and the guitar echo each other. I have been listening to it over and over and get a good cardio work out with each time. That drummer was really kicking it.
I was 14 years old when I first heard this. We had never heard anything like it…. I’m old now. Love that you young ones get it. Thank you 🏴🏴
It’s great to see someone enjoying music as much as I do! The only difference is that I saw them live way before you were born! You missed at least 3 decades of music that will add so much to your life! Thank you and continue to rock!!!
it's music like this that's the reason why my kids are listening to what I listened to when I was their age... cuz music back then was written and performed by talented musicians... unlike music today.
Watch the "live" performances of Tunnel of Love, Telegraph Road, Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in Arms, Once upon a Time in the West, Money for Nothong, and many others. You will then realise what a genius Mark Knopfler is.
Loved your enthusiasm. Good reaction for a great performance. Tons of listeners will recommend "Telegraph Road" from this concert also. Thank you. 👍😎❤️
Yeah!!! I suggest to compare two versions: studio: ua-cam.com/video/jhdFe3evXpk/v-deo.html an then live performance: ua-cam.com/video/4haa3ElkrrM/v-deo.html You will be amazed
Just discovered your channel. Nice reaction to my favorite band. I think you'll really like the song Calling Elvis from DIRE STRAITS- Live "On The Night" 1993. Cheers, All The best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸
Love watching you discover these fantastic artists. We never knew how good we had it back then. We would just drive around listening………also, Mark Knopfler did the soundtrack for Princess Bride.
There's an ear-catching theme but boy I love the variations and the time flies by. Also great to see someone from a different generation respond with such power and positive energy.
This would be one of the best concerts EVER live by a very musically talented band. No gimmicks just pure genius. 1983 Love Over Gold Tour last tour in London called aLCHEMY.
Terry Williams on drums was just amazing. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists in the world. Terry is now retired at the age of 76. Mark is still recording and doing small, more intimate shows. This is definitely one of the best live performances in rock history. It's hard to believe this performance was 41 years ago. The Brothers In Arms official video is heartbreaking. It's about the Falklands war. Mark uses the guitar as a second vocal in my opinion and it is phenomenal. Check out "Just the Drummer in the Band". It's a documentary about Terry.
Telegraph Road on the same album; Tunnel of Love (the Wembley version); Money for Nothing and Brothers in Arms off the Brothers in Arms album; Wild Theme (acoustic version) from the Local Hero album; and the Mark Knopfler list goes for for another 46 years and still going; the musical genius, the storytelling, the singing guitar
The amount of musicality and talent ! So glad I grew of age in the 70’s and 80’s. Song brings back memories . Mark is one of the best and the drummer was awesome
Many of the musicians back then were very familiar with classical music from Beethoven, Mozart, etc. Note how the entire song follows the standard motif of a classical symphony movement: exposition of a theme, variation on the theme, and then finally the resolution of theme coming back at the end.
A legendary guitar player who still plays in 2024, Mark Knoefler wrote the music, sang, played guitar with an amazing group of musicians on this performance. Great to see young people discovering the music I grew up with. Suggestion - studio version of "Yours Is No Disgrace" by "YES". peace.
Hey Bimu..Finger plucking at its finest ( he doesn't use a guitar pick) I don't know if you've done Rush yet but I recommend Tom Sawyer. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
My biggest regret in listening to and watching gigs is not attending this brilliant, live performance. MK is a genius musician, guitarist, writer, lyricist, storyteller and producer. Take nothing away from the rest of the band in this video, Mark couldn’t have done this without them.
Mark Knopfler had a sale of some of his guitars earlier this year. They made over £8million a percentage of which went to charity. Great man. Finest band
The drummer, Terry Williams was white hot in this, and he was driving the performance like an F1 driver on meth. His father came to the show and had never seen his son on stage. Mark Knopfler (guitar, red jacket), heard about this and he told Williams to 'go berserk'. So he did. He is driving the performance like an F1 driver on meth. Like many Dire Straits songs it's a true story. Knopfler is a fan of Zydeco, a very old pre-Blues style of jazz from the Louisiana swamplands.
I absolutely LOVE to see young people discovering the REAL music that came out when we were your age! Since you have so many amazing responses already, I'll leave that alone and suggest a few things to help your channel. Before making a reaction video: 1) If you don't have time to research the band you are reviewing, then at a minimum, print out or bring up on your phone the lyrics so you can follow along. Many songs from this era, tell a story. It can be fun to figure out just what the writer is trying to convey. 2) Before reviewing a live version, see if there was an original studio version and listen to that first. That way, not only can you hear it with amazing sound quality, but you can appreciate what the band has done for its audience and how the song has evolved. As far as what is next: You can't go wrong with any classic rock from the 70's. But I will recommend my favorite "Rock Opera" song. Print out the lyrics and follow along with the studio version. THEN, see how much of the story you can decipher on your own. THEN, there is an animated version that walks the viewer through and tells you exactly what it all means. The song is "2112" and the band is "Rush" Have Fun!!!
You just witnessed the magic of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. Absolute PERFECTION !!! You should listen to Telegraph Road from the same album Alchemy live. I promise you will thank me.
Lots of great songs from them, pretty much the whole of Brothers In Arms is worth a listen, some fun very early videos to go with them Money For Nothing was one of the First tracks played on the Brand New MTV (as far as I remember in the early 80s)
essa música tem uma vibração tão maravilhosa, uma energia tão poderosa que ultrapassa a barreira do tempo...é atemporal, assim como essa banda que para mim é a melhor e é eterna! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hello, nice reaction. You had the privilege of seeing and listening to one of the best performances ever performed by these wonderful and talented musicians. No additional computer, just the musical instruments, the musicians and their immense skill. This is the line up: Mark Knopfler - Lead guitar and lead vocals (one of the best guitar player ever !) John Illsley - bass and background vocals Hal Lindes - guitar and background vocals Alan Clark - piano and keyboards Terry Williams - drums (he is an insane and wonderful drummer) Tommy Mendel - additional keyboards not on stage durting this song: Mel Collins - sax Joop de Korte - percussions
BMI, let's get your views up. I'm sure lots of reccos have come in for DS, one of my favourite bands. If you wanna expand your understanding of music art try out Deep Purple, Child in time live 1970. Pure music performance, deep meaning .. I reckon you may decipher it.
@@BimuReacts Bear in mind, Regardless of internet/peoples info, Deep Purple invented Heavy metal/rock as we know it. Bands like led zep , etc ALL followed. This live 1970 performance is iconic, no frills. The song and music has very deep meaning Deep Purple- refused to release it as single upto today. I enjoy pure music performances, so if I catch your reaction to child in time and you like it, I'll be sure to put in further suggestions. Enjoy
Just to expand your musical knowledge of bands from the 70’s I strongly suggest you check out the band Jethro Tull cuz they are unique. Start with the performance from the 1970 Isle of Wight on UA-cam and you’ll be amazed at the music and the talent of the band especially Ian Anderson’s performance
With due respect to merrilynhunt7819, Dire Straits was the dawn of the computer age in music. The video for "Money for Nothing" took up half the world's computing power. A talented finger picker matched with 64K of RAM blew everyone's mind. I'd have those days again. :D
I agree. Mark was not thrilled with doing that video for MTV but I guess money talks. Watch "Calling Elvis" in 1993 On The Night concert. Not a cell phone in sight. Wonderful to see people actually listening to the best band before it disbanded.
@@merrilynhunt7819 Cool video; I hadn't seen it. I didn't know Dire Straits was still popular enough in 1993 to fill a stadium like that. I guess that was around the time that "Heavy Fuel" came out, and that wasn't very good. Truth be told, I like a lot of Knopfler's solo songs better than most of his work with Dire Straits.
While Mark is undoubtedly the genius behind Dire Straits, have to hand it to Alan Clark on keys and Terry Williams on drums on the Alchemy tour, they absolutely nail it.

Thank you so much! This is so helpful and I look forward to it 🥰

Always glad to help! Enjoy!
You just witnessed the magic of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. Absolute PERFECTION !!! You should listen to Telegraph Road from the same album Alchemy live. I promise you will thank me.
During the 1980s they were a top band in the UK 🇬🇧
Lots of great songs from them, pretty much the whole of Brothers In Arms is worth a listen, some fun very early videos to go with them Money For Nothing was one of the First tracks played on the Brand New MTV (as far as I remember in the early 80s)
This is bare talent. No electronic noise
Before you were born young fella……. When WE were young!
Real music! ❤
Loved your reaction..❤💯
Mark Knopfler is one of the best, #1 IMO He cut an album last year at the age of 73 ❤
essa música tem uma vibração tão maravilhosa, uma energia tão poderosa que ultrapassa a barreira do tempo...é atemporal, assim como essa banda que para mim é a melhor e é eterna! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'd suggest playing playing one of My favourite Dire Straits tracks Money for nothing and The Walk of life.
If you never heard any guitar player like this in your young life, neither have I in my "old" life (72). Best wishes in your academic endeavors.
Hello, nice reaction. You had the privilege of seeing and listening to one of the best performances ever performed by these wonderful and talented musicians.
No additional computer, just the musical instruments, the musicians and their immense skill.
This is the line up:
Mark Knopfler - Lead guitar and lead vocals (one of the best guitar player ever !)
John Illsley - bass and background vocals
Hal Lindes - guitar and background vocals
Alan Clark - piano and keyboards
Terry Williams - drums (he is an insane and wonderful drummer)
Tommy Mendel - additional keyboards
not on stage durting this song:
Mel Collins - sax
Joop de Korte - percussions
Lets give a shout out to the drumming of Terry Williams.
Telegraph road and Tunnel of love from the same concert .
This song is on my morning playlist, get me going in a great mood. Try Nightwish at wacken with storytime
Now u need to watch "Telegraph Road" from the same Alchemy concert. It was the last performance after a 2 hour show. It is even better than this!!
Thank you ! Will do it
What'll really.blow your noodle is that Mark Knopfler is left handed but playing that guitar right handed.
🎉🎉🎉. Fire.
BMI, let's get your views up. I'm sure lots of reccos have come in for DS, one of my favourite bands. If you wanna expand your understanding of music art try out Deep Purple, Child in time live 1970. Pure music performance, deep meaning .. I reckon you may decipher it.
Thank you ! Excited to check it out !
Enjoy
Deep Purple please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Just to expand your musical knowledge of bands from the 70’s I strongly suggest you check out the band Jethro Tull cuz they are unique. Start with the performance from the 1970 Isle of Wight on UA-cam and you’ll be amazed at the music and the talent of the band especially Ian Anderson’s performance
You will never witness anything quite like this ever again 🥺
6:45 yeas! he just sings along the whole time.
DubelibidabDubelibidabDubelibidab
NOT singing. Just feeling^^
@@kilroy1976 Right after this concert Mark decided to disband because everyone was exhausted and the whole thing was too big.
Another British band , try Robert Palmer "Simply Irresistible"
Wonderful r😊eaction!
Thank you! 😃
If only the band, or MK with a backing band, would tour.
While Mark is undoubtedly the genius behind Dire Straits, have to hand it to Alan Clark on keys and Terry Williams on drums on the Alchemy tour, they absolutely nail it.
From my home town
Wow
Please try Romeo & Juliet and Telegraph Road.
