The drummer Terry Williams is one of the best drummers I have ever seen in my 47 years of life, if not the best. He's phenomenal in this concert. The man has to be given the credits he very well deserves.
Cant believe i had to scroll this far down to find a comment about Terry, absolutely unreal performance and his chemistry with Mark is just a joy to watch. An absolute legend in the game at peak performance right here 10/10 just dont cover it.
No matter how many times I've seen this video, I still say WOW!! Terry Williams looks like he's "fighting evil and winning" while playing drums on this song!!
You've just listened to one of the world's truly greatest singer/songwriter/performers in the shape of Mark Knopfler leading Dire Straits, one of the greatest EVER UK exports to the world back in the late '70's and '80's. As a side note, this was the first time the drummer Terry Williams had played in front of his family at a live gig. He didn't do too bad did he? lol
Between April 85 and April 86 they did a world tour .. And I mean WORLD. 248 shows ! No one has ever come close .. each show 30-40-50000 people. 18 nights in Sydney all sold out. Phenomenal…
One of the greatest ever live performances by a band of all time IMO. Everyone at the top of their game but Knopfler and especially Terry Williams on drums are on another level👍👌❤️
Bro, you're right: it's almost impossible for someone's fingers to move that way! Terry Williams on drums was like God walking the earth. Once is not enough, you have to listen to this a few more times to observe all the instruments there, I'd say this is one of the top ten live performances ever! Just think of doing this live in one take, no dubbing, no nothing! Just pure talent and skill!
Mark Knopfler is one of the best you'll ever come across, man, and this performance ranks somewhere in the top tier in my opinion. Glad you enjoyed it so much.
Mark Knopfler is one of my favorites. He has perfected a rare finger-picking style of playing that makes his guitar sing. I can listen to him play for hours. Their best work is found on the albums as only a couple of songs made for radio play.
@@collage1959 Not true. David Knopfler left the band way before. The second Guitarist is Hal Lindes, who also left to be replaced by Jack Sonni. Keyboards were Alan Clarke who went on to be Tina Turner's Musical Director and Guy Fletcher who is still with Mark today.
Dire Straits is an amazing band, and Mark Knopfler is god level on guitar lol. He made me fall in love with the guitar and start playing. Definetely check out more of their stuff, you wont regret it!
As others have said, both "Romeo and Juliet" and "Brothers in Arms" showcase the sheer beauty of Mark's guitar playing. The latter will move you to tears!

The studio version of this is one of the best songs for cruising. It's nice that you enjoyed it so much.🤗 What I love about this clip is how much fun they're having. Making your living like that wouldn't suck.
Rumors say that at the audience on that night there was a father of the new drummer, Terry Williams. To see his son appearing onstage for the first time ever. I say "new drummer" because on the studio album they had another one. I must confess that to me, the drummer steals the show. Probably he impressed his dad, too.
I was lucky enough to see Dire Straits in small venues just as they were becoming famous. Seeing Knopfler play live is an incredible experience. We were front row in a small club. So close we got all their autographs, and even the playlist from one of Mark’s amps. Will never forget it. Knopfler has such a unique way of playing. His finger picking style is like no one else. His guitar just sings. He’s never gone after the spotlight and shies away from too much exposure. But those in the industry know he’s one of the greats. Unlike other bands whose sound can suffer a bit when playing live, his solos are legend. One of the best live songs is Tunnel of Love. His solo on it will take your breath away. And it’s great whether you listen to the studio version, or live. You’re choosing some really fantastic music to react to, and here you’ve discovered another of the greatest rock artists of all time.
You can just tell by the way they are smiling at each other that they know they are on fire and that this is going to be their night and they are going to give the audience something they will not forget

Mark Knopfler is a phenomenal guitar player.
Nice review. Yes, Mark Knopfler was a real great of the guitar - and probably still is.
Nice reaction, keep the quality stuff coming. Your appreciation for good guitar work and groovy sounds tells me you will definetly rock with the following songs:
Sails of Charon - Scorpions
Sweet leaf - Black Sabbath
