I know Kevin probably won't read this but, when you surround you self with quality people, they bring you up to their level. Alan Rickman, Michael Parks, George Carlin, Carrie Fisher, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, JJ Abrams. The people you choose to work with and support will bring their energy and their happiness with them. That aura will stay with you forever once they are there. Take what you learned and do better the next time. You are someone's Michael Parks.
Thanks for the story about being at Quentin's house with Michael. That shows YOUR fans how much directors (and other actors) can appreciate the body of work when someone is THAT good. I was blown away by his performance in Red State and then I was literally pumped to see Tusk knowing he was in that too. He was one of a kind, and I was sad to hear he passed. Hold the memory of him close to you and keep sharing these stories so that he can "live on".
Can't believe he passed, he stole every scene he was ever in, just electric. One of my all time favorites, won't be the same without him, RIP Mr Parks.
Thank you Kevin Smith for putting Michael Parks front n center so we could have the opportunity to appreciate his outstanding talent. Thank you Michael Parks for having been such a captivating performer.
I was so sad to hear Parks passed. I had JUST rewatched Red State and he's easily the best thing in it. It breaks my heart to hear Kevin get so choked up about this talented man.
I've said this before and I'll fucking say it again, Michael Parks DESERVED an Oscar nomination for his role in Red State and it's a shame and a CLASS D FELONY that he was not nominated!!!
Been aware that Michael Parks was amazing since he played Jean Renault on Twin Peaks. What a talent. He will be missed and never forgotten. This was a great tribute to the man and the legend.
I didn't even know he had died. I just watched Tusk for the first time a couple weeks ago, and his performance alone boosted my rating of it a full point. I'll have to go back and watch some of his stuff that I missed.
Red State is awesome and has my favourite Michael Parks performance of his career. When he speaks in a film everything else seems to stop and you just eagerly wait for the next line. When I first heard the news I immediately thought of Kevin. He will be missed.
Kevin is very self deprecating. I hope he knows how awesome we think he is. Screw the critics. Tusk was awesome, and so was Red State. Michael Parks was one of the main reasons. The other reason... Kevin
yeah ive noticed that too, and I admit that at one point I wasn't a fan of him, I still haven't watched all his movies but what made me a fan of him was his fatman on batman podcast, it let me get to know him and made me realize how nice and big hearted this guy really is. I think hes awesome now, and because of him ive learned a lot about the comic book business that I never used to know . He is genuinely funny :)
Wonderful, touching stories of a truly great actor. I too first saw him in From Dusk Til Dawn and thought he stole the show in the first 10 minutes and i'm so glad Kevin thought the same about him so we could see him in the brilliant Red State. He will be missed.
Kevin~~you are a swell human being. I love your sincerity and that you aren't afraid to show emotion. It's rare to feel a true and honest connection with a dude you don't really know other than his work. Keep on man~~I well and truly love ya!
I tell every movie nerd within earshot (but no one believes) that Red State is a lot like early '60s Kubrick (Strangelove, Lolita) filtered through a modern Tarantino-edged sensibility. Darkest of comedies... = D
I honestly wish Kevin would take more risks and do other film's in that same kind of style.. It was absolutely genius somebody finally did a film that uses the cult theme.. If I could afford to make a film, my dream has always been to do one based on Waco.. and Kevin had something similar to that idea with Red State.. my version would be very serious and would lack comedic elements but thats what makes Red State even more genius is his ability to mix horror, comedy and drama all in one film.. along with a stellar performance from Parks.
So the best things to come out from Tusk, other than a fucked up (in a good way) movie, is bringing back Kevin's desire to direct and bringing Michael Parks back in good spirits after a health scare.
Kev. Tiger. You have made movies that will influence young film makers and adventurous film watchers for years to come. Thank you. Please don't die. I'd love a Tusk 2.
BTW The eighties movie Kevin was referring to was Spiker from 1985. I've seen it because the version I have has a Rifftrax commentary option on it (The Guys from MST3K) making it hilarious but Quentin's right about Michael's performance. He lifts that movie from a steaming pile of shit to a more hardened odourless, harmless unless you step in it pile of shit
I loved Micheal Parks in Tusk, I mean everything, but Red State he freaked me out but Tusk he scared me, that performance really spooked my bones. Godspeed Master Micheal Parks. After that story about bringing him back to shore I feel honored that Tusk is one of my favorite movies.
Kevin youre not alone Tusk in my belief is my favorite movie of yours I love Michael Parks have you spoken to Quentin Im interested to hear his eulogy True Romance is my favorite Quentin and Oliver Stone RIP Mr. Parks
Tusk was a great movie as were all the others. Maybe the genre was different for each of your movies but they all have their audience. Michael Parks was the bomb in Tusk yo!!
I know for a lot of people myself included that sometimes life can really get the best of you. With obstacles like paychecks, debt and where is the next meal coming from but I'm guessing if we all lived half a meaningful life as Parks did that those challenges wouldn't be so enduring. I can only dream to have that type of impact on people and cherish relationships in that way. Sometimes that's all it takes. A call to a buddy in town and making sure to entertain them for breakfast. It's the little things in life and the extra mile that some people are willing to go that make this world great.
Man, deaths are racking up this year? Richard Hatch (met him), John Hurt, Bill Paxton, Charlie Murphy, Powers Boothe, Chris Cornell and Roger Moore. Now; Michael Parks which i've only heard of. Hate how 2017 getting bad as 2016 was with all these tragic passings. R.I.P. Michael Parks.
I know, but what you'r responding to was made 2 weeks ago which is why i didn't name Adam West then for obvious reasons? Do you actually want me to name people ahead of time? I'm not the Grimm Reaper i don't do that fella??!
I hated Tusk, but hearing the behind the scenes stuff about it makes me at least appreciate that Parks had a good time making it. I especially love that he said that Justin Long could be an oscar-winning actor. You don't often hear veteran actors tell younger actors that they have that kind of potential.
Red State is one of my faaav horror movies Kevin ! You are my favorite person/nerd/director and Id be honored to blaze it up with you lol ! Keep ya head up !
Red State is not my favorite Kevin Smith movie, and is quite a radical departure in tone. But damn that is a really really GOOD movie. It breaks all plot conventions and is one of the few films I've ever seen where shit that would never happen in a "normal" story does happen and you never see what's coming from one moment to the next. And yes, Michael Parks is absolutely GENIUS in that film and deserved far more accolades than he ever received.
Anybody who doesn't like the 2010s Kevin Smith films is out of their minds. Those are all great movies. At least the ones I've gotten to see. (Still wanna see Kilroy Was Here.)

Parks was a great actor. I watched Red State cold.I was a Smith fan from his early works but had know idea what Red State was about. Parks scared the piss out of me. And am a hard core horror fan
I don’t agree with Kevin to put red state in the same light as tusk and yoga hosiers , red state was awesome and Michael parks was amazing in that movie
In Moose Jaws, the place where the moose is located should be called "Michaels Park."

I know Kevin probably won't read this but, when you surround you self with quality people, they bring you up to their level. Absolutely loved watching this. Michael is one of my favourite actors and it was great to hear about him. He has always fascinated me.
Thank you Kevin Smith for putting Michael Parks front n center so we could have the opportunity to appreciate his outstanding talent. Thank you Michael Parks for having been such a captivating performer.
Thank you Kevin for giving Michael Parks two starring roles for his fans to watch over and over.
His role in Red State was
spec-fucking-tacular. Really sorry to hear he passed. He was amazing.
Tearing up as I watched. An awesome Talent. A great Gentleman. An infinitely tragic loss.
His performances in red state and tusk are phenomenal.RIP
I prefer Dusk Till dawn
I was so sad to hear Parks passed. I had JUST rewatched Red State and he's easily the best thing in it. It breaks my heart to hear Kevin get so choked up about this talented man.
RIP to a true acting legend. I'm watching From Dusk till Dawn again tonight.
My favorite scene of that movie was with Parks.
Wish that Sheriff didn't die...
I've said this before and I'll fucking say it again, Michael Parks DESERVED an Oscar nomination for his role in Red State and it's a shame and a CLASS D FELONY that he was not nominated!!!

These stories are so beautiful. Thanks Kevin
I love how Kevin has A LOT of history to tell about his life in Hollywood!!! I love Parks too!! R.I.P, Mr. Parks
Loved him since From Dusk til Dawn. Amazing actor. RIP.
Red State is a highly underrated, highly effective thriller. It's probably Kev's best latter day production.
From Twin Peeks all the way to Red State, I've followed Parks for years & he was always a dark cantankerous delight. He will be missed.
Been aware that Michael Parks was amazing since he played Jean Renault on Twin Peaks. What a talent. He will be missed and never forgotten. This was a great tribute to the man and the legend.

I'm sorry for your loss, man. This is a tough one.
Red State is awesome and has my favourite Michael Parks performance of his career. When he speaks in a film everything else seems to stop and you just eagerly wait for the next line.
When I first heard the news I immediately thought of Kevin. He will be missed.
I'm just now hearing of this. His role in Twin Peaks horrified me as a kid. He will be missed.
Kevin is very self deprecating. I hope he knows how awesome we think he is. Screw the critics. Tusk was awesome, and so was Red State. Michael Parks was one of the main reasons. The other reason... Kevin
Some Guy I sometimes send him tweets telling him he makes good movies.
yeah ive noticed that too, and I admit that at one point I wasn't a fan of him, I still haven't watched all his movies but what made me a fan of him was his fatman on batman podcast, it let me get to know him and made me realize how nice and big hearted this guy really is. Michael Parks rest in peace you will surely be missed by your friends your family and your fans

William Petree that is absolutely dead on.
fuckin' A, man!

Tusk was a great movie as were all the others. Maybe the genre was different for each of your movies but they all have their audience. Michael Parks was the bomb in Tusk yo!!
"Red State" is fun. Parks and Goodman are very, very good. Thanks Kevin for posting this.
Rest in Power, Mr. Parks.

God damn it. I didn't lose it until Ralph told his story. Fuck.
Man...so good. RIP Parks
Probably already asked but how came the Hollywood Babble On can't be on video on UA-cam instead of just podcast?
Who said Red State was bad? That's one of your best movies. Hands down. That movie was incredible.
Kevin Smith can sure tell a story.
I just received a brand new blue ray of Red State I ordered last week in the mail. Can't wait to watch it. I've never seen it.
Sad news, Parks was awesome in "Tusk"!!!
