Hollywood Babble-On - January 15, 2016 - Kevin Smith opens up on some of the times he shared with Alan Rickman and how close he was to the man.
God this always makes me bawl like a baby. You truly hear someone who lost a friend. Not just an idol but a genuine friend. When I first heard this at work I had to run to the bathroom bc I couldn’t stop crying. I just wanted to reach through my phone and give Kevin a hug.
I’m bawling too.
TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY is such a beautiful movie. Definitely worthy of re-discovery.

I'm going to theatre school and all my teachers tell us the best actor ever on both stage and film was Alan Rickman. Even though I'm female and Canadian my dream is to be like Alan Rickman.
I wish I was Canadian and my dream is to be like Gary Oldman. However Alan Rickman was amazing, RIP. :(

Gary Oldman and also Anthony Hopkins are amazingly brilliant. They are both also capable of switching between being a romantic, normal lead, to a serial killer, vampire, dark and complicated characters. I think British stage-trained actors can be some of the best actors ever.
Go for it. You can't go wrong striving to be like Alan..... cheers.
I honestly think this is by far the most beautiful, heartfelt tribute that anybody has ever payed to Alan. Your words perfectly capture his essence, your tears are the biggest proof that you saw beyond Alan Rickman The Actor. Thank you, Kevin!

Thank you for sharing this! I'm so envious of anyone who got to work with him or knew him personally. He seems like he was one of those once in a lifetime kind of people. Everyone who speaks about him absolutely raves and has nothing but wonderful things to say. He was loved by so many people. What an immense talent. Almost 5 years later and his death is still hard.
There really WAS something special about Rickman that made you LOVE the dude on screen, I can't even imagine how distraught I'd be if I'd actually known and loved him personally. His Hans, his Sheriff, whenever he was on the screen he stole the show - it's as simple as that. Peace be with you Alan, we will always love and miss you.

Totally agreed. I cried. I did. I have no shame. I was always a Rickman fan, he had something about him that was next level and unique. Dude was real on some super human level. I never saw a Rickman performance that I didn't absolutely LOVE. This dude was....amazing. I only WISH I'd have known him myself. I love that Kevin expressed what he did - it will go down in history. Thank You Kevin. If someone tortured me and told me that all I needed to do was renounce my loving for Rickman....I'd tell them to DO THEIR WORST. NOW....if you want to see a Rickman performance you probably haven't yet seen.....check out 1996's "Michael Collins". He plays Irish political figure "Eamon de Valera". As always, he does it on that next level....RIP Alan Rickman - we'll always remember you......................
When I heard Kevin Smith had his heart attack I almost had a heart attack because dear God would I have died to hear he passed away. I have never met Kevin Smith but he is my favorite director of all time. Listening to him speak about someone that important to him... There's no way I can make it through this video with bawling

Alan Rickman was a true Brit, and we love an underdog like Kevin Smith. Kevin is a real filmmaker and real person and I have a hunch that Alan liked that about him.

Kevin was friends with Alan Rickman, huh? Interesting friendship right there. To me, Kevin being friends with Bruce Willis would make more sense, for some reason.
I'd agree, but people can be weird. My best friend I have basically no similar hobbies with, we met on a fluke, but even though there's a smaller set of things to establish a relationship with, how we interact is more beneficial than having similar interests with. Like how people say opposites attract, things never come across the way you'd expect
