I think the more important part is how much he’s changed. Dave Ellefson and Marty Friedman were so nice when I met them but he wasn’t nice at all. He’s totally changed though and I’m glad because he looks like he’s a lot happier.
Dave...I'm the Veteran you'd texted back around Christmas 2020. We have the same Birthday. Great to see Megadeth on Premiere Guitar. My all time favorite metal band, period.
I met Kiko 20 years ago and the greatest thing is to see how he is still humble as always before and happy to show and talk about his gear and everything, really a lovely guy.
@Breno Miranda With me and to me he was, this I may and must say, it was in a guitar clinic (after it, we talked for a long time), the sweetest person, Rebirth tour time. Well, there are fans and there are fans, other than this me and he we share the same age so we have plenty to talk, about life and other subjects not only about Angra, guitar and music.
Watching this I can't help but wonder how long it will be before Dave leaves Gibson and does an interview telling the world they made terrible inconsistent guitars that were barely playable.
The way KIKO described the neck he had made it sounds like it will feel like a Old Charvel san dimas profile which is my favorite neck profile. He said it is a cross between a Jem wizard and a satch neck which has a rounded fender C shape neck profile. I have to check one of his sig guitars out.
Just got to mention that I love Kiko and Dirk in Megadeth. Kiko is an awesome ambassador to the public for the band his you tube videos are so cool. I think those modern Les Pauls come in around 8 lbs and that’s about average electric guitar weight, not noticeably lighter, not an anchor either. Love the classical flamenco acoustic stuff Kiko does really reminiscent of some of Marty’s acoustic fills and just fits in Megadeth.
I have one of those moderns and mine is just a little over 8 lbs. It isn't as heavy as other Les Pauls, but it is indeed heavier than my V and explorer
Have to admit, I've never been the most dedicated Megadeth fan...and over the course of 3 decades I've owned maybe 4 of their albums. But I totally admire Dave's work ethic....I've never seen him more busy and active as he has been in the last 4-5 years or so; even more so than their late 80's to mid 90's prime!!!!
Great rundown. Not the first time Gibson has done a 24 fret guitar though. They're been doing them since the 80s. I had a 1988 SG90 that had a 24 fret neck. They had a V version of it too.
Think Dave meant to say they’ve never done a 24-fret Flying V before, because he’s said that in a few interviews…however, Gibson’s done a few custom shop baritone Vs with 24 frets for Robb Flynn of Machine Head, one of which his Epiphone signature model was based on. It IS their first 24-fret Flying V with the normal 24.75” Gibson scale length. So he’s only half wrong when claiming it’s the first 24-fret V they did.
Flying V 90 made from 1988-1991 had 24 frets but I believe it was standard Gibson 24.75" scale. They didn't make very many....any that are around usually go for quite a bit on the used market.
James Hetfield was right. Dave's tone could cut through any sound proofing. Love Dave's tone, rhythm and lead. Can't wait for the new album. Whenever I got to Nashville, I keep an eye out for him.
Dave is and has always been my inspiration to play. Not only is he a great guitarist, he’s a master songwriter, lyricist, leader, survivor and legendary. I’d give anything to thank him in person one day.
I love this version of Dave. Not all of us were the shining examples you see before you today. We have to allow for grace. He's come a very long way to get here. And as always, I f'ing love Kiko. Such a humble monster.
Great interview. Glad to see Chris making an attempt to get more info about the modeling. It's why we all come here. I feel like string gauges or fret inlays aren't what made us interested in these bands in the first place. Especially in the metal world.
Definitely awesome seeing Dave do a Rig Rundown, I still love his classic axes like the Jackson and Dean Vs and his early BC Riches but these new Gibsons look killer as well
Is it me or has Dave really mellowed out over time. Personally, I know that many times looking at your own mortality when life throws something like “the big C” at you, you tend to let go of the things that used to seem so important or irritating to you in the past.

I’m hoping his Kramer V is more modern shaped V like a mashup of his Deans and Jacksons a an aggressive cut without bevels and Kramer pyramid logo headstock would be sick . Interesting what Dave said about Gibson not setting up artist guitars . James tried to get a Iron Cross and said that the company was impossible to work with. Now looks like we might be getting at least a Hetfield inspired 84 Explorer. Also interesting to me at least that James got a white Jackson King V around the time Dave got his . The story I heard is that James loved the white Jackson and used it in the studio on a classic Metallica album. Two of my favorite guitarist could be endorsed by Gibson if the James deal happens. James and Metallica got me into guitar and I like old Metallica but I discovered Megadeth and Megadeth is my band. Dave is running a QC🤯 I wonder if he didnt have one last year cause they were out of stock??? ☺I like Kikos approach to his QC patches, try to make it like its real life. QC is intoxicating with how many options and power. Cool rundown
The QC has been a lifesaver for me. After recent back surgery--no more hauling a 4x12, pedalboard and head. I just have the 7 lb Quad Cortex running straight to FOH and use ear monitors.
Absolutely awesome vid, thanks guys! I got Dave’s signature Rust in Peace Flying V for my 18th bday years ago and will never tire of playing it ❤️ so excited for the new album 🤘
I love both of their signature model guitars. It's cool to see that the Quad Cortex is getting it done for them. I am curious as to what role the Helix (sitting on top of the rack units) is playing; maybe bass or something else.
i love rig rundowns with the actual player! i get that it can be hard to get ahold of them plus the techs probably knowing more than the player, but still i love seeing the actual player!
Kiko is amazing. For most ppl there's a little bit of his personality that may get lost in translation, because he's a latino (brazilian); but seriously... the guy is universally a gem. Dave is just a legend.
I also got a Quad Cortex….today spent the day in the studio programming my live sounds for Sheer Cerebral Power (my Band). My main recording amp is my. 96 Diezel Blueface VH4….The QC has a beautiful capture of the VH 4 included, which leaves my Live Diezel Paul, stay at home now. Love the QC!
I'm an old Blues and Classic Rock Guy, but I love Dave Mustaine, to me, Megadeth is the one and only real Metal Band. Outstanding, a Monolith. I love 'm.
Love these guys Glad Dave is doing ok , can’t wait to hear the rest of the new album, and Kiko is a total beast , I always remember temple of shadows absolutely blowing my mind !! If you haven’t heard it and you like awesome guitar (why else would you be watching this) you should give it a beast!
I've had one since launch. I wish they were quicker with their updates/patches, but not enough that I'd ever part with it. Captures are just magic and are better feeling to me than what the Kemper did, and I'm no shoegaze tap dancer, so the effects included so far are more than enough for what I need. Also, like Kiko and Dave, all my preset/scene changes are programmed via MIDI so I don't even have to be anywhere near my QC when it's time for a lead or a clean part etc. Modelers have become great sounding tools in the past 10 years, but this is the first time they got the "feel" right in my opinion. I could plug you into my rig and tell you it was all analog and you wouldn't argue with me.
Saw Megadeth in Concord in 2021 with Lamb of God, and they sounded really good. A funny thing I noticed is that when Dave had to play something a little bit slower, he would miss a couple of notes. But when it came to playing something really fast, it was perfect everytime.
this is great interview 1st time i saw Megadeth was during the Clash of the Titans Tour historic tour i seen these guys so many times Giganta tour great times for me DAVE is a Icon man ! he has made his mark on metal no doubt about it thanks PG for this peace out ..
Cool interview...nice to see the actual artists give the rundown versus their tech. Wonder what's up with Gibson shipping boxes up top...were some of these guitars just props for the video?
I love the Gibson it’s definitely one I need to add to my collection thanks Dave for everything you know I’ve been his fan since I was a little kid I used to have my headphones on cleaning my room vacuuming I was looking at buying one of your guitars awhile ago but I ended up just getting something secondhand I’ve got a fair collection now I’ve actually only bought one Jackson bass brand-new because I thought I’m secondhand and fix them up
Gibson had a 24 fret guitar in like 1990-91. I think it was called the MKIII or something. It was a completely different body style than any of Gibson's classics. A double cutaway shaped kind of like the Modulus guitars
Kiko the Les Paul's you have are I believe 9 hole relief that's why they aren't that heavy. They make them pretty lite because it's a modern guitar hence the name.
When he talked about the explorers his demeanor changed a little. James always on his mind. Still one of the best rig rundowns, and most I've seen Dave this humble and inviting.
Dave is a heavy metal legend! This interview will be history. His controversies are a plus, even more nowadays. Kiko, using Friedman amps to beat M. Friedman legacy is an excelent strategy, ha, keep it up guys! Cheers from good Brazil
Dang Dave's looking old, but it's great seeing him still touring, rocking out, and doing interviews! I saw him at the first show of his tour with Lamb of God and he and the band did great.
Yes, Dave is a great designet, the ESP DV-8 that came to be the V for ESP, Michael Paget adopted as well, that one is one of the best looking guitars that have ever existed, the Dean VMNT is jnot so bad but these Gibsons he designed look great, of course it's a V with an explorer neck, and still nobody had done it before, I agreen with the "cavern thing" I prefer a guitar to have everything mounted on the body, I don't mind pickguards, but Dave's designs are great, except for the axxion.

Humble and down to earth! Not a fan of metal music at all but a big fan of this guy and how he carries himself.
Love this gig run down by Dave, Kiko!! So glad Dave will be playing for all eternity since he's now Born Again Christian.
I want his Kramer V. When do they release thosw
I KNOW!!! an all black one would be the sickest shit on the market.
Dave is the Godfather of Thrash Metal, and Kiko is Awesome !
Dave seems like he is doing really well, great to see. The new music sounds sick, Kiko kicks ass.
Love watching Kiko's youtube channel. He seems like a nice guy and a good guitar teacher and player.
This was a great video dave and kiko are incredible musicians!
I ordered mine in Jan 2021 and received it in May. The recent updates have really made it an exceptional tool.
Absolutely awesome vid, thanks guys! I got Dave’s signature Rust in Peace Flying V for my 18th bday years ago and will never tire of playing it ❤️ so excited for the new album 🤘
0:16 one of the best riffs ever of thrash 🤘
I will be seeing them live in Tampa with the Original Misfits and Fear June 24th
Looking forward to the show
Nice guy kiko, humble guy and a great musician, god bless him
I love both of their signature model guitars. It's cool to see that the Quad Cortex is getting it done for them. I am curious as to what role the Helix (sitting on top of the rack units) is playing; maybe bass or something else.
I have a quad cortex and I'm never looking back, the best money I ever spent.
Such cool guitars! I was lucky and fortunate enough to get the Green V and Signed Acoustic! 🎸🤘
i love rig rundowns with the actual player! i get that it can be hard to get ahold of them plus the techs probably knowing more than the player, but still i love seeing the actual player!
Kiko is amazing. For most ppl there's a little bit of his personality that may get lost in translation, because he's a latino (brazilian); but seriously... the guy is universally a gem.
Dave is just a legend.
Dave and Kiko both rule. God bless them both.
Such a cool rundown of their gear! Really looking at that Quad Cortex
Wow they got Dave Pickups, Dave headstock and a Dave neck...sounds like quality hardware to me!
Legend. Awesome of Dave to be present! 🤘
Saw Megadeth in Concord in 2021 with Lamb of God, and they sounded really good. A funny thing I noticed is that when Dave had to play something a little bit slower, he would miss a couple of notes. But when it came to playing something really fast, it was perfect everytime.
Best episode ever!! Megadeth!!!
this is great interview 1st time i saw Megadeth was during the Clash of the Titans Tour historic tour i seen these guys so many times Giganta tour great times for me DAVE is a Icon man ! he has made his mark on metal no doubt about it thanks PG for this peace out ..
Cool interview...nice to see the actual artists give the rundown versus their tech. Wonder what's up with Gibson shipping boxes up top...were some of these guitars just props for the video?
I love the Gibson it’s definitely one I need to add to my collection thanks Dave for everything you know I’ve been his fan since I was a little kid I used to have my headphones on cleaning my room vacuuming I was looking at buying one of your guitars awhile ago but I ended up just getting something secondhand I’ve got a fair collection now I’ve actually only bought one Jackson bass brand-new because I thought I’m secondhand and fix them up
@13:53 you hear tech say you can thank DIMARZIO 4 that, referring to their winning the court battle of double cream pickups
Really awesome and casual behind the scenes video, very interesting!
Another great interview with Chris Kies👍
Its nice to see the artist come out to show stuff, i have seen a few who don't
Seems like Dave is extra happy.
Gibson has done 24 fret guitars before. The SG supreme series comes to mind as well as the Les Paul double cut plus.
Congratulations Kiko for being beside Dave and still so humble! Show them why Brazil loves you!
When he talked about the explorers his demeanor changed a little. James always on his mind.
Still one of the best rig rundowns, and most I've seen Dave this humble and inviting.
Move on already, damn. Dave has
Chris is such a great interviewer really enjoyed this, met Kiko at a clinic he is such an amazing guitarist and genuine nice guy
Megadeth kicks ass. Dave and kiko are mind blowing on the guitars.
Dave is a heavy metal legend! This interview will be history. His controversies are a plus, even more nowadays. Kiko, using Friedman amps to beat M. Friedman legacy is an excelent strategy, ha, keep it up guys! Cheers from good Brazil
If the strategy does not work, go back to laney, marshall.. or try tmiranda! Anyhow, just beat Marty
Wow, they have Kiko playing Les Pauls... hahaha
