40 seconds of bombs, explosions, toxic waste, aliens, and Vic... cuts to a calm, soft-spoken Dave in a comfy chair. I love it.
Most aggressive vocalist in metal that I met were nicer to me and,
kinder than mine own parents , lord worm, Jacob Bannon, corpse grinder, Chris Barnes is very well spoken , Glen Benton , Matti way. I listen to them and I met them in shows they were extremely nice and kind. Even in numetal The late Wayne from static x was so nice I met him in 2010 nicest guy around and Corey Taylor was pretty funny I met him at ozzfest. Nicest people

Grande el slayer, fan de Megadeth
i dont know what it means, but it sounds awesome
I can't be the only one to absolutely LOVE MetallicA and Megadeth both can I? Their split was a blessing because it gave us 2 amazing bands instead of 1. Hell yes!
U can but for me its deth O' mega all day everyday.
@@BlutoMindpretzel72 on a non related note you also have Kai Hansen leaving Helloween and forming Gamma Ray
I love both the bands. Way I see it is that as far as left hand is concerned, Megadeth is more technical and Marty's solos are on another level of existence, however as far as right hand and downpicking is concerned Metallica is the undisputed. That's the why I think MoP is way more heavy than RIP.
Amen
Hell yes I love both bands and do not compare either megadeth is totally different music wise then Metallica both are great bands legends it’s crazy how Dave sees his life and band as second to Metallica I sure don’t rust in peace is the best trash album of all time period fuck slayer fuck any other band it cannot be touched period
When he said he never felt special before metallica, my eyes welled up in tears. It's hard losing friends
It is.
It is looking back I had a squad of 4 people during all my school years. Then once senior year came in high school everyone moved and did different things. Now I only keep in touch with one of them and its like once a month. which I assume is kinda how dave and james communicate.
not just that man he got kicked out of metallica I can only imagine how that felt to him
He is such a humble, sensible man, deep thinker with low tolerance to " idiots".
Heartbreaking. I think he’s doing well these days. I think they are a lot closer than they used to be.
Deep down they deeply respected each other’s musical output. It would have been impossible for them not to be knowing what it takes to be successful.
Nothing was handed to Mustaine. He built Megadeth from nothing. Respect.
For us Megadeth fans, for years the only good documentary we had on Megadeth was the Behind The Music segment. This picks up their story in far greater detail and really helps us understand both Dave and the band a lot better. Fantastic job Gibson!
I think this video really completes the Behind the Music doc. It focuses on other aspects, well of course Dave is older and has a slight different view on things now, but there's more regarding the private and human aspect of him in this video than in Behind the Music.
I love this video
Read his books. Both are great reads.
@@krymera666x7 already have. They’re awesome!
Well, you could have also read his book.
I hope Dave knows how many of us metal fans truly appreciate his work. He’s the Thrash guitarist gold standard. Gibson good work with this documentary.

“I thought about myself retiring because someday it’s going to inevitably come. Whether I hang my guitar up or they lower my body down.”
Such a wise badass quote from a real metal legend
Dave truly is the real deal
I've been sleeping on megadeth for a long time, and I'm just now learning about Dave and the band and i'm convinced that this man is a wizard. How in the hell can he play those intricate parts, AND sing?!?! Dude's unreal, long live metal 🤘
Rust in Peace, Youthanasia, Countdown, Peace Sells, and United Abominations. You're welcome. 🤘
@@johnwilliams8130 rust in peace is the best album for sure but I'd go with so far so good so what next. Just for in my darkest hour alone. One of the top 3 megadeth songs ever.
@@TheUltimateWord yeah so far so good so what is a great record but I don't listen to Darkest Hour anymore simply because of the subject matter. Same thing goes with Fade to Black. Personal reasons. I did like the songs before they hit way too close to home though. 502 was always my favorite on that album.
Dudes got mad chops on the guitar, that's for sure.
Somehow all those crazy fast and intricate riffs don't sound sloppy at all. His pick discipline is unreal. And the madman can sing!
I wonder how long it took to train his fretwork speed. Not so much the fretboard hand, definitely the picking hand.
Mesmerizingly badass riffage.
@@TheUltimateWord hook in mouth is amazing too.
It was nice hearing him speak so respectfully about Metallica, Hetfield in particular. I'm glad all that stuff is well and truly behind them. Here's to many more years of Megadeth!
Dude if you listen to James talk about Dave he still has resentment over Dave's talent and songwriting abilities... stop and imagine James singing on rust or countdown... and several other songs that Dave wrote. Dave is the better singer in my opinion. But damn it would be cool to hear James on some megadeth songs
He basically did it just by himself after terrible odds. I respect that.
It's because, Dave knows MEGADETH is better, faster and the music is more technical then Metallica will EVER be.
He has truly beaten them, like he set out to do after being kicked out of Metallica.
MEGADETH IS FAR BETTER THAN THOSE OTHER IDIOTS !!!!!
Dave mustaine for president 2024
@@mikeb.551 James wouldn't be able to sing to ANYTHING Megadeth has put out.
God, I'd love to watch him go down in flames trying.... 🤣🤣
Megadeth was the first band I ever got into back in early 1999. Metallica I got into second. I love both bands, but people are delusional if they think Metallica is technically superior in any way. Mustaine's songwriting alone crushes them and will continue to do so. I'm glad he's finally at peace with the whole thing compared to 20 years ago. cheers dudes.
Dave's Lars impression is perfection.
He's actually doing more of a german accent.

I really just appreciate Dave as a human being. Been a Megadeth fan since the beginning. Dave you made it brother.
Dave is the definition of persistence. Everything this guy has been through, both self inflicted and happenstance, he could have at any time and no one could have blamed him. He kept going, and whether you like Him or hate him, you have to respect him. He's been the bad guy when he needs to be and the good guy when he needs to be. He's not just a metal legend. He's an inspiration as a person.

@@mikekelly1771 Diferent video diferent audiance, i guess..
I didn't expect this but I was nailed to my chair eyes to the screen start to finish. Haven't happened to me for decades.
P.s. For me Dave is the best metal rhythm guitarist ever. There is no other guitarist able to play such complicated riffs while singing. Not even James.
Honestly I felt the same way until I saw videos of David DiSanto playing in Vektor. Very complex and fast riffs whilst singing.
@@henrywalton5967 Heard 3 live songs out of curiosity. No. No complexity while he is singing. Also not actually singing like Mustaine does (or at least tries to). Mustaine sings on top of complex time signatures without his voice just following/flowing with the guitar but keeping its own time signature or pace. Its very very hard to make your brain work with 2 different time signatures at the same time especially when you add technical complexity to the mix. Not impossible of course, there are street musicians who can play 3 instruments at the same time. But it is very rare.
DiSanto plays basic fast riffs (actually easier to sing along) and follows the guitar pace with his voice.
Similar to what Mille Petrozza of Kreator does... but even then Petrozza plays some more complex riffs while he sings.
No. No-one (in metal) is even close to the level of Mustaine.
james is the down picking god though so at least give him that plus his grungy vocals
He plays lead. So do the other guitarists ( Chris Marty, Jeff etc). There is no rhythm guitarist they trade back and forth constantly.
@@granthooper2329 I know that. I just said what he is best at. The best at metal rhythm guitar. I still love his solos but there is none like him at rhythm guitar.
Dave’s story saved my life. I was battling depression and addiction. But his story of tenacity and grit has inspired so much to play music and continue doing my best everyday. I love you Dave and I love Megadeth. 🔥 ❤️ 🔥

I count myself very fortunate to have seen Megadeth on the Rust In Peace tour. Not only did we get to see the classic line-up at the height of their powers, but there was also the chance to witness the soon-to-be-megastars Alice In Chains opening for them!

At age 48 I have become a Megadeth fan and want to be able to shred like those guys. And now I want a Flying V
Same here! Back in the day, I really loved Anthrax and Metallica, and for some reason Slayer and Megadeth slipped by the wayside. Now I've had the chance to get in and discover more than their megahits as a grown adult and it's been so inspiring! Have you read/listened to Dave's autobiography? Fascinating stuff!!! :)
Welcome to the family 🤘🏻🤘🏻
You better get to practicing
That’s cool
🤘
What I like about this video is listening to Dave voice. He just wins battle with cancer and seeing him in this condition makes me happy. Too many rock star haven't survive their substance abuse and seeing Dave, not only alive, but still making heavy music is just incredible.
Dave mustaine is a victory

Dave and Bruce Dickinson man.
Both beating oral/throat type cancers at an older age, and then both still proceeding to make, not the best albums of their careers, but albums with some absolute banger songs that harken back to their heyday and would've fit in just fine on some of their greatest records is monumental. And then both still touring and putting on killer shows.
That was the most kickass intro to anything. That sums up Megadeth and why they're one of the greatest
Love magadeth, never got soft, kept metal alive if Dave lives to be 100 he will still be making metal great, you killed it Dave, you keep it up.
Nobody has meant more to me musically than Dave Mustaine. His music saw me through a tough adolescence, inspired me to pick up the guitar and write songs. This was epic. Thank you Gibson!
Thanks for watching!
So many people hate on Dave and ive never got it ...he writes with his heart and god damn you cannot take away his genius ..he is the riff master general and allways will be
,first time i heard wake up dead 33 years ago it gave me goosebumps...good on ya Dave.
Word 🤙🏼
"Riff master general" I love that buddy !
Okay, okay I like Megadeath a lot I even like Dave and think this interview is awesome. However you never “got” why people hate Dave Mustang. Dudes been know for acting like a dickhead for a lonnnnng time. Looks like he has pulled himself up here and let alot of that go but anyone can at least understand why people hate Dave. Once again not saying I do but I totally understand why people do.
@@cosmonauthal7651 His name is Mustaine. Fucking hack.
@@cosmonauthal7651 And no, to counter that, I've followed him going on 30 years and he's never _not_ been a sweet heart. No one has been kinder to me.
That was so cool to hear Dave’s story. I have been a huge fan of Megadeth for many many years.😎
Dave Mustaine is amazing. This interview covers most of his career.🙂
It’s crazy to listen to this because he’s talking about his panic car crash right now and I live like 5 minutes away from where he’s mentioning
Ooohhh wow, what else do you live 5 minutes away from?
@@Sandman60077 Umm, reality ?
😨😨😨
He’s told that same story before on video except he mentioned a different locations. In this video he says south of the pier but in the other video he said pch and Warner haha
@@Sandman60077 Hahahahaha! That was an excellent comment.
Makes me think of this: ua-cam.com/video/wv69kcMcavg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=RyanGeorge
Rattlehead’s main riff is like an average band’s solo… Dave Mustaine is an inspiration, and absolute LEGEND of Metal.
Thank you Gibson 🙏🏼
Poison was the cure is ALL solo, there is no "riff".
@@pleasuretokill I agree. But in this case I was speaking of Rattlehead…
@@jamesestrada82 ...and I was making a comparison between Rattlehead and Poison Was the Cure regarding riff difficulty and likeness to the compexity of a solo. We each did our own thing. As is allowed.
@@pleasuretokill For sure. No shots fired from me. As stated before, I agree with your assessment. 🤘🏼
This is what I was about in 6th grade. Love it. Great memories. Symphony of Destruction was my favorite.
I was always a punk guy. I gave myself the opportunity to listen to Megadeth several times, but one day something happened, I could never stop listening to their records and riffs. Magic. One of my favorite bands!
Dave mustaine is an absolute soldier of a man, a great guitarist. He gets flack for his singing but has such an interesting sense of melody on songs, his voice works perfectly on songs like peace sells, tornado of souls, in my darkest hour, sweatin bullets and so on
I agree. The Countdown to Extinction album is still one of my favorites. Hangar 18 is still probably my favorite. Holy Wars; SoD main stream? Yeah, somewhat. A good listen through? F×$kin A Right. I love it. Louder Than Life...For real, let's go!
Ive heard megadeth covers with technically better vocalists but... its not the same, not as good.
That's tbe beauty of original music...Dave's not for everyone, but it's real as fu?k
I love Megadeth.!!!! Dave's the only thrash guy where you can hear his snarl in his voice
Very well put
Dave, after all these years, is still my hero because he presents as a man, with his frailty, his flaws, but with a relentless drive to go forward, like pulled by an invisible force.
He is a mere man and a legend as well. Long live Dave Mustaine.
And with bullshit
True talent, new 2022 album is amazing, I hear it everyday . To me MegadetH is now the best.
Maestro Mustaine! Thanks for sharing all those words of wisdom.
Dave Mustaine and Chuck Schuldiner are for me the greatest gift Metal has given us. This was beautiful
The god father of thrash metal and the the god father of death metal
Truer words have never been spoken.

Gibson’s getting all these metal legends, they’re stepping up, hopefully they continue to make good moves like this
The power of money my friend, that's all it is
They can start with making their guitar quality better
Dave has always been & will always be my hero. I admire you, Dave. You are amazing, thank you SO, so much for giving all you do. 💗
Dave is such a brilliant guitar player but brilliant as a man as well. This was so well done. Loved it.
Thanks for watching Mike!
He said "simular."
37:14 Hiring Marty Friedman changed Megadeth forever. One of the greatest guitarist ever. Rust in Piece, so damn good album.
Right? Though Poland is still on of the best players to ever be in a "thrash metal
" band. But Dragons Kiss was my favorite guitar album at the time. Both Becker and Martys solos albums but Dragons Kiss really spoke to me most stylistically he was like the next level of all the phrygian melodic minor type stuff i lived and breathed. And i was saying at the time man if these guys got into a proper top tier thrash band it would be insane, it would change the game immeasurably. Well Megadeth happened to be my favorite all around band at the time so when he joined them i knew it was probably going to be historical foot note in metal.
Rust is the best metal album of all time. Of course, that's just my opinion. It stands the test of time, and will for 30 more years.
friedman is overrated tho
@@michals5737 huh? he's one the best to ever do it. one of the most original in the genre of rock/metal by far. the best of the best. in the class of the greatest of the greats. i would base that on Dragons Kiss and Scenes alone. Let alone his work in Megadeth.
@@chickenbeek he has made few brilliant solos on the rust in peace album but thats not enough to call him 'one of the best'
he has not done anything relevant after breaking up with megadeth, did not pursue any kind of successful solo career
also, his songwriting credits were actually quite low in megadeth
What a great video! It's awesome to hear Dave be vulnerable and so open about the history of Megadeth and really kind of the history of himself & all he's been through, self-afflicted and otherwise. Really enjoyed this. Here's to another decade!
i love him so much, i could sit and listen to him forever. megadeth saved my life in so many ways and im so thankful for em. ❤️
I’ve heard his story so many times, but I can’t wait to listen again
Same!!
I could listen to mister Mustaine tell stories as often as he would tell em.
What an amazing legacy for one man to have
Beautiful testimony, beautiful soul. I never liked Megadeth music, but this man has impressed Me and yeah, I could come up to you Dave and never for a moment think you might spit fire, but rathe ....just words of hope and dedication and why not even love for the people near You.
Saw Megadeth a few weeks ago and i've been a big fan of Dave and Megadeth but seeing them live and seeing Dave rock out and not miss a note..plus sing my mind was blown. I'm glad he got the fame he deserves. This man is a genius in his own respect.
