I was surprised that people weren’t really happy with this show but were singing praises of a mediocre Mission Mangal. This is one of the most beautiful web series, it makes me so emotional. It shows scientists as humans with emotions, flaws, greed, ambition etc without adding melodrama, unnecessary masala and cheesy loud patriotic dialogue baazi. Refreshingly we are getting to see stories of Indian scientists who were stalwarts in their fields. And Last but not the least, finally Jim Sarbh is getting such good roles. Nothing wrong with playing villains, they are also characters with depth and substance, however he deserves to play main leads. He is such a natural actor, one doesn’t feel that he’s doing overacting.

The audience for mission mangal were the mass general audience who are impressed by anything above average.
The audience for this show (based on marketing alone ) are the mostly upper class, educated, jaded, cynical, snobbish people who love to nitpick stuff. And that makes all the difference.
That's what makes good pictures unnoticed because we ourselves are hesitant to promote it. But massy movies get worse and worse but the audience are happy to celebrate it.

@@maverickcreations589 let me correct you, not the upper class. Not all educated can like. And by the way u didn't get the real agenda of the web series. UPPER CLASS HIGHLY EDUCATED rubbish. There is high probability that u can never connect with it cause you are not from physics community. I think its a masterpiece and atleast involved some of the major contribution of both without mixing the unnecessary convincing for uninterested audience. Btw ur upper class word is quite hypocritic. Celebrate the science. And focus on words you choose to write.🙂😊😇

They have differing philosophies on how to reach there, but still stick with each other even when at odds. The camaraderie was just marvelous.

And where the content has nothing to do with Drugs/Mafia/scams/. Something we could only wish for, while watching English series on OTT platforms... Something we can watch with the kids together as a family and take pride in , rather than having to watch privately on our phones. Kudos to Abhay Pannu for pulling this off.. I just finished this show, and honestly came straight to see if you had reviewed it. Completely agree with your assessment, especially the privileged Brit one. Though, I liked the dimly lit frames on the show, reminded me a bit of Gordon Willis' work, especially the library scene and the scenes set in IISC. Those moments in the first 2 episodes reminded me a bit of Prisoner of Azkaban, with the way they portrayed classrooms and professor's office.
I am especially glad that they didn't dumb down the dialogues, most of these characters were educated privileged class, they spoke and carried themselves like one in the series. And I also loved the subtle class and religious discrimination commentary shown through Raza's character, he is someone you sympathise with as the show progresses, despite the big chip on his shoulder.
The BGM and opening credits were out of the park too, just couldn't stop myself from grooving to the BGM, reminded me a lot of Scam 1992, and skipping the opening title sequence for this show will be a travesty honestly, they have done a fabulous job.
This is honestly my favourite show produced in India after Paatal Lok, can't believe it's produced by an Indian programmer instead of BBC or something, because it gave that vibe completely.
So glad there's a second season all but confirmed, it would be amazing to see other great scientists included in the story next too and more of our scientific history explored.

It mostly showed the truth (albeit, with a few fabrication of facts, which can be ignored) which is commendable. It focused on all the characters equally and it felt really good to see the people I have read in books, to come into life. The casting was fabulous, the research behind the show was intense and few of the scenes, like the flag hoisting on Independence Day and the launching of the first rocket are very emotional. It didn't fear to use scientific words or regional words (which many shows prefer not to use as it would lessen the target audience). Overall, it is one of the greatest web series I have ever seen.

Sony Liv easily produces some of the country's best content but least marketed content. Kinda like a "black sheep" underdog of the web platform world. It barely has the outreach and influence of a Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. It relies mostly on an overwhelmingly powerful word of mouth to top the charts.

It truly is an excellent series with great performances and adept screenplay and story writing... it's a product that competes on a global level... with movies like the theory of everything And the imitation game. Apart from the series being phenomenal in every shape and form I still don't understand why are people not talking about Achint thakur's Melancholic and soulful theme song... something that fits perfectly with the narrative. . He's the same man who gave us the brilliant scam 1992 soundtrack

Hi, as a researcher I am bit disappointed with the show. In my opinion somewhere they missed showing the challenges faced by them in establishing these institutes and the problems they faced at basic ground level (except one with ATIRA). These problems are brushed through dialogues exchanged between Homi J Baba and Vikram Sarabhai. They focused too much on their personal lives. I understand that they are not gods and should not be treated as one but their contributions to scientific community is way more than showcased in the show. I hope to see more of their scientific contribution in season 2. However, I am happy that this show showcases their personality in a very raw and honest manner. Also, I haven't found the character "Raza Mehendi". I am not sure if he is fictional or real. Please let me know if someone finds it.

Ok so there's a rumour that Crowley ordered a hit on Homi and that his death was not an accident. To bank on that, i think they created fictitious villians to add drama.
For a change, I loved personal life drama and went on internet Rabbit hole about Mrinalini and Kamala and their lives. Because we don't have videos or wiki updates about their young age, we only know their scientific achievements, not personal life.

Especially the change to Tamil and the series showing us the first glimpse of APJ Abdul Kalam, his intelligent analogy he shared with a chacha at the masjid. I have replayed that scene so many times and to be honest I was so overwhelmed with tears. Rightfully said, you don't need a 4 or 400 page sheet to declare patriotism, it's best felt and acted upon when there is immense love for our country.

Of course the main heroes - Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh were simply outstanding, you can see it in their faces that they felt the characters' journey. And of course, the writing, dialogues, art direction, cinematography was equally brilliant too. Thanks to Roy Kapur and Emmay films for bringing this to us🙏

My views on this show: Jim's acting seemed to be a bit over the top at times. Not sure if that was the demand of the script or was Homi Baba such a person. I too felt the show should have shown an bit more on their work than their personal life. The best moment of the show for me was when they put their efforts in launching the first rocket when they had almost given up.

Some Trivia: The 1999 movie "October Sky" was initially named "Rocket Boys" but the name was dropped off because the producers felt it won't appeal to a larger audience and decided to use an anagram of the name instead; rearranged the letters of "Rocket Boys" to make it "October Sky". Not sure how much inspired this series is by October Sky. I initially thought its a rip off, but great to know that its still original.

Having said that, why would you decide the tone, the stage and treatment of lights sailing through the story and moreover the story is about 2 genius who also had personal life apart from their love for science. Cmon we are in a phase where we can witness such good story telling and producers backing them.

We were so lucky to have the most brilliant minds in the world in out country and too in overlapping time.
