@@sunitait8671 No it wasn't an insult to our educated, intelligent women. You missed the point entirely. House works are not just women's duty. They should be shared equally between a husband and wife. Whether women can balance work and household chores is not the debate and it doesn't matter even if they can. Women are EXPECTED to do it while men only have to work. In this movie, her husband and in laws didn't want her to work. They wanted her to be a housewife which is btw the reality for most kerala women. Men make most decisions in a family including what a grown woman should and shouldn't do. Unfortunately this is still the reality.
And regarding Sabrimala, idk where I stand on it. Frankly i don't care. But that scene where she throws the dirty water at them was actually so satisfying. It was a slap to all religious organizations who suppress women in the name of religion. That was an extremely bold and powerful scene. Kudos to the team.

Shoojit Sircar, Ronnie Lahiri and Avik Mukhopadhyay deserve all the praises because of the vision and execution leaving no stone unturned.
If so called awards shows don't acknowledge this movie(not that this movie needs any validation) then it's for sure you know what they say are paid.

Not surprised to see so many Malayalam movies in this list, truly deserving. It is a gift that keeps on giving. I specifically want to comment on 3 movies from this list:
    1) The great Indian kitchen: I was initially bored watching her do the daily chores. It then hit me, just watching it was so boring and monotonous, imagine how it would be for a typical Indian housewife expected to do it. Brilliantly portrayed and backed by strong acting performance
    2) Sardar Udham Singh: The last 30mins brought a chill down my spine and also had me speechless and sobbing. The movie and it's visuals stayed fresh in my mind for many days after watching the movie. For many hours after the movie I was still lost thinking about the massacre and what those people had to endure
    3) Garuda Gamana Vrishabha vahana: As a Kannadiga I'm so proud to see this movie in the list. This joins the list of other Kannada movies like Lucia, U-turn and KGF, that I would urge my non-Kannadiga friends to watch. This will be available on ZEE5 from January.

One key factor behind a movie's success is making the audience think and talk about the movie even after the end credits have rolled. I don't think any movie achieved that better than Churuli this year.

Truly a great list. Really commendable that you so adeptly flitted across so many industries and put together this list. Some of the movies mentioned are in my list of the next movies to be seen. Was a bit sad that 2 well made movies from Kerala were not mentioned - Joji & Drishyam 2. Nevertheless a great list. 👍 Thanks for putting this together.
