If there is one thing to call out as great about this show, it was the Mehdi Reza character. This was one of the fictional characters placed in the show among real people as kind of an antagonist to Homi Bhabha. I just love the way it was written.
No he was not fictional actually...he was intentionally put there as a parody of Dr. Meghnad Saha, he was anti nehru and because immense friendship of homi and nehru , meghnad Saha never got the place and opportunities he deserved ( which he deserved) ... meghnad Saha was brilliant and no doubt homi was too but luck didn't work out with Saha. Also in series Raza has a painful past as a Muslim meanwhile Saha had bad past due to castism , so it makes sense

Also the confusion about the "Bengali guy" ...he's related to the Muslim League, the main party which paved the way for the creation of a separate muslim state - Pakistan. Raza is built Around Meghnad Saha, and the cyclotron project is now residing at VECC at Salt-Lake, Kolkata, right by Saha Institue of Nuclear Physics. And in real life, Meghnad Saha became MP with the support from socialists/communist which places him in opposition to INC.
My read is that changing Saha to Raza is intentional, and was design to confront our own Islamophobia and racism against a different ethno-lingusitic community.

Meghnad Saha and Homi Jahangir Bhaba had no ideological conflict between them IRL to knowledge. They used this show as a vehicle to explore the tension that was back in the days and we, the viewers and our immediate take on lowly Raza as a binary villain against charismatic Bhaba is precisely what they wanted us to experience or so I think. That's why, the plot twist of Raza, being patriotic at heart, works
